Of course, King still landed on his back on the stage, under the weight of Matt, so it wasn't all just perfect for him following the counter attack, but it had prevented a far more perilous outcome. King slowly rolled away from Matt, headed to the barricade, which he used to help himself up.

Matt laid flat on the steel ramp, simply breathing at the moment. His arms were wrapped around his head, nursing the damage that the fall onto the ramp may have caused; despite the pain in his spine, the amount of head trauma he had suffered so far was greater.

King lifted himself up to his feet using the barricade, having leveled the bigger star for the moment. 2.0 shrugged off the over enthusiastic fans, instead turning to Matt and moving to start stomping on him incessantly as he lay there contemplating his mistakes.

Stomp after stomp connected with Shanahan's body, sending painful reminders that this match was not won just yet. With a snarl, Matt began to fight through the pain and start crawling down the ramp, trying to get away from his attacker and former best friend.

King followed Matt as he crawled down the ramp and when the time was right he tried to grab Shanahan by his pants and hair, heaving with all his might to pick up Shanahan and hurl him into the steel steps.

It was Matt's turn to meet the unforgiving steel of the steps as he was soon hoisted up and thrown., causing him to stumble forward until he collided with the stairs. He flipped over the metallic platforms, knocking them out of place. He landed on his back on the opposite side, thudding hard against the muddied mats.

King landed in the mud as well, having thrown a lot of his own weight into tossing Matt into the steps, so once he had the ability to, he made his way over to Shanahan and tried to pick him up again, at least enough to lay him on his back on the steel steps.

Matt put up no resistance at all as he was pulled back and laid across the steel steps. His dazed eyes simply glared up at the sky, taking in the pouring rain. His element, and he seemed to be failing...

King flipped his wet hair back out of his eyes... or he would have if he still had his old school long hair. He looked at Matt on the steps and then at the turnbuckle of the ring, taking in a deep breath before climbing up onto the apron and the ropes.
King scaled the turnbuckle until he was standing high above the ring, and especially above the floor. He put his arms out at his sides, and slowly fell forward, trying to connect with the Shoal!!

Matt seemed completely out of this world as King climbed up onto the turnbuckle and stood tall above The Storm. Matt's eyes barely took note as King entered his vision, blocking out the view of the clouds.
It was a sight he was familiar with; after all, he was in this same predicament only two years ago.
But this time, he hadn't fallen over thirty feet out of the sky.
As King fell forward for his classic Shoal, Matt came to life! His legs surged and he suddenly hopped to his feet, sending him up on both legs and shooting forward, lunging far out of the way and leaving King with nothing but steel platforms to fall on!

King fell through the air and very suddenly came to a stop, thanks to the steel steps. His body smacked into the steel with a resounding thud and clang, as he bounced off the steps, yelling in pain and holding his chest.

Matt heaved in air as he laid on the muddied mats, relieved to have a moment of peace. Even if it was truly just a moment, he needed to regain his senses.
Slowly but surely, he pulled himself over to the apron and began to attempt hoisting himself up to his feet, hopefully managing to get up before The One True King could rise again.

King wasn't getting up anytime soon, all the air sucked out of his lungs after colliding with the steel steps. He pulled himself up into a sitting position, leaning back against those same steps as he nursed his wounds, holding his chest in anguish.

Matt got up to his feet and hissed, his body fighting against his attempts to stretch and overcome the pain. His face was a mess of pain and frustration, but he knew he had to fight on; and when he turned his head to look over at King, he saw an opportunity to turn the fight his way.
The sight of King propped up against the steps gave Matt the perfect idea, and the world would figure it out just as quick. He went charging towards his former best friend, fighting through the pain, as he attempted to bring his knee colliding into the side of King's jaw!

King's face collided with Matt's knee, whipping his head into the steel steps behind him, causing King to clutch at his head with both arms and curl up into a fetal position.
