Unfortunately Dawson was so proud in his getaway that he failed to see where he was going and ended up in a knot of sentient seaweed. Was there a lesson in this?

Checking their surroundings, Dawson navigated back to that large cave from earlier like a round, fuzzy-chinned mermaid spy. It was funny how in the worst weather, he seemed to be at his best. Maybe the fear and anxiety had cancelled each other out?

Or maybe he had so much of both that his body was compensating by making him feel brave, the way one grew cold when laying out in the sun for too long.

Dawson noped his way out of there so fast, his bag might as well have contained only two stones like last time. His legs were still paddling furiously against the sand even a handful of seconds after he had breached the beach waves like a whale, tossing sand everywhere and creating half of a sand angel. A frantic, relieved sand angel.
