"I don't remember that." He replied obstinately, catching Chance's foot in his hand. Why keep his foot hostage, he wasn't sure of the benefits. But he had it now. "Pretty sure that's a lie." Which was itself a lie.

Aw man. Now he only had one hand for his tower of shells.

Chance gave a soft snort, his expression mildly indignant as he attempted to tug his foot away from Otto's grasp, the palms of his hands digging into the sand and causing him to sink several inches down. The problem with struggling in sand was that it was not a flat surface, so really, he was at a disadvantage.

"Pretty sure I'm right," said Chance, changing tactics and attempting to continue prodding Otto even with his foot captive. "Pretty sure you're the reason why we both want pie now."

"I'd never do that." He lied again, letting go of Chance's foot as he struggled. Otto stood then, a hand full of shells with him. He idly wondered if they could skip across the water like a flat stone could. Or maybe he could keep them in a jar. They were kind of pretty. Like little treasures.

He looked out to the horizon beyond the ocean and let his mind go blank. This was nice, he thought. His mind was not preoccupied with worries and doubts and the need to figure himself out. He was just... him. At ease and open to the world and it's wonders.

Spending time with Chance had taken him away from the muddy chaos he'd been drowning in. He'd become his distance. His outside perspective. A break from his own mind, and from that break he'd untangled his strings.

"No, of course not," Chance deadpanned, pulling his foot back as it was released and dragging his legs underneath him to sit cross-legged in the sand. He rested his elbow on his knee, chin propped up in the palm of his salt-streaked hand as he looked up at Otto. A part of him wanted to ask what he was thinking, but another part of him just thought it was nice to spend time in silence; and, after all, Chance was not one to pry.

"What are you gonna do with those?" he asked instead, nodding at the shells. "I was thinking I might take a few myself, maybe string 'em together to make something."

"I was thinkin' of putting them in a jar. Cept I don't got a jar." He murmured, looking down at his hands.

"Maybe theres a jar in the sand too." And hopefully not a broken one. "Kinda sucks theres so much junk in the beach here. Can't walk barefoot without steppin' on something sharp."

"Jar hunt it is," said Chance, glancing around and lowering his hand, leaving behind a streak of dirt and sand on his jaw. He pushed himself to his feet, wobbling a little unsteadily on the slippery surface, and walked a few feet, glancing this way and that.

"Where did all of it come from?" he asked, crouching down again when he caught a glimpse of white. "Was the beach always in disarray?"

"Can't remember.. one of the disasters that was island wide, I guess." He murmured. "Wasn't always this bad, don't think." It made for excellent treasure hunting though. "I found a runic stapler here. Never runs outta staples. Never gotta charge it." It was probably the most amazing useless thing he owned.

He walked alongside Chance, his eyes down for the most part to look for jars. He only looked up by chance, at Chance, and saw the dirt. Otto held the cuff of his own sleeve in his hand and rubbed the dirt off Chance's jaw.

"A stapler?" Chance repeated with a laugh. "Here? Wow, that's a ridiculous and amazing thing to find all at once, maybe I can find a runic...something...to add to my own collection," he added, grinning sideways at Otto."

His eyes skimmed the sand, taking in what was possibly something interesting and what was simply trash. Something soft touched his face, and Chance felt, without looking, Otto's sleeve against his jaw, brushing away the residue of the sand that he hadn't even known was there until now.

Chance slanted a look at Otto. "Thanks," he said, a little smile on his face, and then slowed his steps, crouching to poke at something possibly jar-like in the sand but that turned out to be a beer bottle.

"Pretty sure this isn't what you're looking for..."

Otto hadn't searched the beaches for treasure in some time. Usually he ended up with nothing. But now and then, a gem.

"Definitly not. Beer bottle ain't classy. And too dark." He was also sure he'd never fit the shells inside. Maybe the smaller ones. "Odds are we won't find a jar but.." He shrugged. He was having fun, regardless.

He shoved his hands into his pockets, continuing to walk, his head down low.

"We can still look," said Chance cheerfully, sifting through the sand. "I'm sure there's something good h - ouch."

So much for avoiding the sharp objects. A piece of cut glass fell as Chance lifted his hand, wincing a little as a long line along the inside of his left index finger began to appear. A few scarlet beads of blood blossomed along the skin, and he looked at them for a quick moment before dragging his eyes away, his chest feeling a little tight.

Chance dragged his gaze to focus on Otto instead.

"You were right about this place being a bit of a minefield," he said with a little laugh, but it was slightly forced.

Otto's head jerked to look at Chance. He must have found a.. yep. Shard of glass. One of the reasons Otto didn't dare go barefoot out here, even if he wanted to.

A small cut was of course no big deal; even a normal human needn't worry about such things. Unless you were scared of germs, disease and the like. And for Hunters there was always the worry of cutting oneself on something contaminated with Fear and the like.

But it bothered Chance, for whatever reason.

Otto tried to lighten the mood, or tease him into taking his mind off the trail of blood down his hand. "Need me to kiss it better?" He asked deadpan.

His face was slightly paler than usual, and Chance turned his hand over, fingers trembling slightly as the blood began to drip down the line of his palm. It wasn't even that big of a cut, more of an annoyance than anything else; but his heartbeat had quickened anyway, stupidly.

He dragged his gaze up to Otto and let out a little laugh, still shaky.

"Only if you want to," he replied, attempting to be just as deadpan, but the wince that passed across his face couldn't be hidden, and Chance exhaled a breath, dropping his head so that his forehead was pressed against his knees.

"Remember that whole facing your fear s**t we were talking about earlier?"

Otto tilted his head, regarding Chance curiously. "I remember." he murmured. Was Chance afraid of the sight of blood? If that was all, it would be a grave problem. Hunters had to see the stuff a lot. He wondered if maybe it ran deeper than that.

"I realize," said Chance, his voice muffled, seeing as how his face was still pressed into his knees. "that this is probably one of the shittier things to dislike when all of what we do here involves a lot of mess and blood and s**t, but..."

His fingers were still trembling. He curled them against his palm, wincing at the slippery feel of the blood against his skin.

"I'm not technically afraid of it, I just don't like it," Chance mumbled. "Which I know isn't that much better."

Otto furrowed his brows. All he had to do was make the blood seem out of sight. Problem solved. Sleeve? No, he didn't want to stain it. Did he have bandages? Nope. Ocean water had salt in it. That would be no good. Painful, maybe? Did all oceans have salt? And really, Otto wasn't worldly enough to know where exactly the 'Bermuda Triangle' was.

So he did what he would have done had the cut been on his own hand.

Otto took Chance's hand, out of the dark haired man's sight, and lightly sucked the wound clean. He took his hand away from his mouth after a moment, inspecting it to make sure the blood wasn't still beading.

"I'd use my sleeve but blood's a b***h to get out." He remarked idly, as if discussing the weather. His eyes remained on the hand, and not on Chance. He was pretty sure he'd get embarrassed if he made eye contact.
