Corona chewed on her lip rather guiltily as she stared into the distance. Her mind directed her hooves in the direction of needed travel and yet she felt a strange detachment from the moment. Somewhere just beyond that ridge lay home and the one that she shared her life and love with. It had always seemed natural that she would stay close to her childhood friend once she had reached maturity. At first Corona would not be able to pinpoint the moment that her friendship with Hecate blossomed into young love that grew into the blazing and fierce love that she and her partner experienced for each other. Through an awkward transitional phase for both; lifetime friends became lovers one clear, moonless night in which they expressed the simple yearning to be with each other forever.

Growing up as friends had given both mares an advantage in overcoming any insecurities that they might have at the start of their relationship. They had been inseparable growing up and had divulged their secrets to each other. This seemingly inconsequential detail proved to be a solid starting block. However, there were two secrets that she had yet to share with her partner Hecate.

Corona knew that by journeying to see her family she would be separated from Hecate's side for at least a week. What she had not expected was the unexpected pain of separation that had shocked her to the core when she had made the solo jaunt. The journey had to be made though. Corona sought the blessing for her union with Hecate and knew inwardly that she may not be granted it. That in itself was not unexpected. Her family was rather close-minded about her lifestyle choice and could not fathom why she would settle down with not only a member of a different species but also a Soquili of the same gender. Corona would stay with Hecate despite whatever decision was rendered. The half-Kalona mare unknowingly had stolen her heart a long time ago.

The guilt that came with harboring secrets was what ate at her now. She now knew that her family was disapproving of her relationship and had basically disowned her. There was not anything else she could do besides tell Hecate what had happened. Corona shivered with trepidation. To burden her lover with that amount of guilt would not be fair at all. No, she would keep this secret to herself, locking it deep within where only she would be the one to suffer.

That decision alone ate at Corona and had directed her to perform the action that bore an even larger secret from Hecate. Corona had heard of the mystical powers of the Wishing Star. Perhaps she did not need her birth family if it were at all possible to start a family of her own with Hecate. With a purpose in mind Corona could only fervently believe that fate would shine down and that the star would reappear before she returned to Hecate's side. On her way back she had visited the altar as the Star shone its light onto the land, calling to all with the promise of miracles. Corona took her offering and left it at the shrine and spoke of her desire for children. Once the wish was made Corona found herself unable to face the chance that Hecate would not approve. It was then that she became fearful of announcing her intent to Hecate.

With nary a sound to announce her presence Hecate appeared on the horizon, folding leathery wings and eying her quizzically, almost as if she were asking what was wrong? Corona shook her mane and flicked her tail as she felt herself beaming at her mate. That trick always seemed to distract further questions. Though nothing seemed amiss on the outside, inside her emotions were swirling around like a turbulent storm, one in which that threatened to drown her when she least expected it. She had to tell Hecate, didn't she?

Fear kept her voice silent as she nuzzled Hecate's side and received a warm 'welcome back' in response. Perhaps she would let Hecate know in a few days what she had done. There was no harm in waiting for things to return to normal. Was there?
