Ajicka gave a wry smirk and a nod. She may have given a slight misrepresentation but but by much-- the pokemon had essentially swarmed her. They didn't engulf her, exactly, but they kept coming, one by one. To think how long ago that had been... And it was part of what had got Jas to such a high level as quickly as he had. Use of Lucky Eggs, items like Odd Incense, and other training tactics was part of why she had been able to get her team as strong as she did, as quick as she did. If it hadn't been for that Ball... she would probably have all eight of her badges by now, and then some. There was absolutely no doubt in her mind of that.
She lifted her head, shifting her gaze from where she'd been watching the pokemon observe the item, to looking at Sebastian as he mentioned dark types. She raised an eyebrow. "You have a preference for dark types?" she asked. She supposed it might be because they were strong against ghosts, but... ghosts weren't necessarily as common in the wild. Maybe it was just a personal preference, or something, seeing as he already had his Mightyena for that. Or maybe he was stocking up for when he went home. She blinked and lifted her head when he mentioned Houndoom, though.
Without hesitation, she reached back, pulled off a pokeball, held it up, and clicked the button. A bolt of light zig zagged its way in an arch, hitting the ground and gathering, before forming the released pokemon-- Houndoom. "No," she replied flatly, putting the pokeball away, "Never heard of it." Houndoom was shifting uncomfortably, glancing at Sebastian, his head ducked down and his body language shying away. She hadn't had the pokemon long and she certainly hadn't really used him much. Aside from the battle that evolved him from Houndour when she caught him, to his current form, she hadn't even battled with him. And he wasn't exactly a pokemon that brimmed with confidence. Now that she thought about it, that was sort of becoming a trend with her and her fire types...
"Don't worry, Houndoom. Feel free to explore a bit, just don't go too far," she informed him. He stared at Sebastian a moment, but then turned, lowering his nose to the ground, his tail flicking behind him as he seemed to immediately catch a scent-- Mightyena's, apparently, considering he followed it until he was near the two pokemon, and looked directly at the other dark-type. He turned his head, though, a bit evasively lifting his eyes to the sky as if that might make it less obvious, and then turned, quickly catching another scent (or at least pretending to) to lead him off in another direction.
Ajicka watched him a moment, then looked back at Sebastian. "Hate to tell you, though, they're not actually found in Johto. Least, not that I know of. I could tell you where I found mine, but I think you're going to have to do a good bit of traveling. I'd definitely recommend training your pokemon up more before you do that, though," she commented, looking back over at the two, one hand on her hip. She frowned, looking to the side in thought, then tilting her head, giving a sideways look at Sebastian. "Do you remember what type the first gym leader uses here?" she questioned.

- "Just a bit; I know it’s odd." Sebastian responded to her question. They’d been the most useful throughout his work in Lavender Town, though to be fair he hadn’t known too many beyond Spade and those they came with their trainers once in a while to the tower. But he just preferred them to trying to counter ghosts with other ghosts. "But I’ve no intention of limiting myself to them of course… wouldn’t quite get me that far, now would it? At least, not for now."
At first he frowned when she produced the pokeball, the expression on her face seeming to indicate that she had idea what he was talking about. But then Houndoom appeared; alright then, Sebastian could take a joke. At least… he thought she was joking. He was too busy bursting into a rather wide grin, eyeing the Houndoom a moment. It looked just like one he’d seen once before, owned by a trainer passing through the town. The young thought the pokemon was cool as hell then and still felt very much the same now. Of course, Ajicka’s Houndoom seemed a little… timid? It certainly didn’t seem all that comfortable.
"Wow… awesome." Sebastian knelt a little, watching the pokemon a moment more before glancing at Ajicka as it headed off more to do some exploring. "Have you had it long?" He questioned. When she mentioned that not being actually found in Johto, a frown crossed his face. Really? Well that was…a bit of a letdown actually. When he’d asked the trainer had told him he’d found it in Johto. Sebastian couldn’t help but give a sigh. Well, that was certainly mood dampening.
He tilted his head. "Oh? Where did you find it then?" He gave a nod, smiling again. "Well I’m all ready for travelling… and I think it’d be worth it." When she questioned him about the first gym leader, he gave a blank stare. He knew this… at least he thought he knew it. At least, he’d looked it up while he was in the Poke Center. He frowned slightly, digging out his pokegear and retrieving the information again. "Hes… flying."
Spade watched Houndoom as he approached, twitching and crouching low to the ground as he watched the other pokemon sniff around. Cyndaquil only gave Houndoom a passing glance, to enthralled in trying to find a way to stick the new item he received on his head to give himself a horn. Spade just kept watching Houndoom, twitching and keeping tabs as he moved away.

Jerking her head in an exaggerated eyeroll, Ajicka gave a very dismissive wave. "Trust me that's not weird," she replied, frowning and placing her hands on her hips as she tipped her head to the side, "If you liked ghosts after reading all their entries in a pokedex, and working your job, that would be weird. And disconcerting." She seemed to consider something a moment, but left it there. Probably best not to mention she'd report him to the cops for special watch if that had been the case.
She shrugged a little and dropped her hands down when he mentioned limiting himself. "It would be an interesting challenge, but... no, it wouldn't. Least not without a lot of work, and a lot of quick claws or other items. I defeated a water gym with my Charizard because he was a high enough level and I taught him the right moves, but considering the obedience challenges, it's a pretty risky tactic," she admitted. She knew some trainers just really liked their types, but a gym leader was a prime example of why she would likely never specialize for any reason other than happenstance and giving herself the challenge. Though, considering how many pokemon of it she had, she probably could make a water of just water pokemon, if she wanted... But... she didn't.
Raising an eyebrow, she watched him as he looked after Houndoom, then glanced over at the pokemon. She was quiet a moment, watching him as he snuffled around, unaware of how much attention he was apparently getting. "... No, not really. To be honest, I originally caught him for a..." She gestured a bit, searching for the right word. "'Request', that someone had made. But... I dunno..." She looked back over at the dark-fire pokemon. "There was something about him that I liked. I figured I could train him once I got my badges." Another absent gesture, though this time with a more displeased expression. "Or 'took a break'..." She looked at Sebastian a moment, considering something.
She shifted her weight, glancing away, frowning slightly as she thought back to where she'd found him. "Lake... Valor? I think it was? It was in Sinnoh. But, the pokemon are about..." She seemed to do a mental calculation, then gave him a blunt look, "Five times stronger than yours, I'd say. So you may want to wait before chasing after that." She paused, pressing her lips together, then gave another toss of her hand. "Or, if you want, I can get you one," she offered, "My Fearow knows, and can use, Fly, so it's not that long of a trip." Why... was she offering this again? ... Boredom, probably. She could use the training, really, anyway, and the pokemon there were right around the same strength as those she was training, and would be easier for the higher level ones to get some extra practice, too.
She quirked an eyebrow when Sebastian announced the gym leader's type preference. That was a unique one. Usually they were rock, ground, or... bug, or something. "Huh. Well, might want to look into rock moves, then," she commented, glancing over at his pokemon, "Or just get their levels up a bit. By the way... Your Mightyena... he always that twitchy?" She looked back at Sebastian, jerking a thumb over to the pokemon. She blinked and glanced down when she felt something nudge her leg, looking down to find Houndoom there, raising his head to hand her something. A... TM? Seriously? "Huh... Thanks, Houndoom. If I didn't know better I'd think your ability was Pick Up," she remarked, leaning down to take it. She gave him a bat on his head, and he shuffled his feet a bit, before turning and bounding off again, slowing, and then turning to look at Mightyena, apparently finally picking up on the other pokemon's gaze.

Sebastian just tilted his head at her curiously, one eyebrow raised while his expression seemed to be a mix of concern and wonder. Well yes… ghost didn’t quite have the best pokedex entries, from his experience. He was beginning to wonder what other ghost-types were out there… and would he want to meet them? They were probably still all rude, just the same.
"I’ll take that as a compliment of some kind then." He finally remarked. He looked impressed when she mentioned using her Charizard against a water gym. "That’s pretty bold… even if you set them up to handle it." Could he handle doing something like that? He wasn’t sure… it seemed easier to try and diversify from the get go if he could; at least time around. From what he understood, there was power in type advantages and he certainly wouldn’t avoid making use of such a thing if he could.
Sebastian looked back at Houndoom. "A request? Did they not want it after you got it?" That seemed a terrible shame, though it was good that Ajicka was taking the time to care for the pokemon. He gave a brief glance, catching sight of the displeased look, eyebrow quirking curiously. "Not much for taking a break, I take it?" He replied jokingly. She’d calmed down a bit at least and he was enjoying the chat.
Lake Valor? He wasn’t familiar with it. The fact that the pokemon around there were apparently strong though elicited a frown from his face. Of course. For a moment, there was a painful reminder that he was pretty much starting from scratch. He took a deep breath and nodded. No rush, no worries. He had a long way to go sure, but he’d get there and be better for it… right?
If Sebastian hadn’t been bouncing his attitude back, he might’ve missed Ajicka’s proposal. Cyndaquil had opted right about then to try and charge into his leg with the false horn, failing and sort of just flopping backwards instead. He watched it a moment, looking back at Ajicka with a bit of disbelief. "Really?" He was too surprised to really respond much more. He glanced back at Cyndaquil, picking the pokemon up as it flopped again, apparently back to sleep. "That’s… a pretty generous offer." He had just met this girl. There was probably some underling deal that he was totally missing. He tilted his head, shifting Cyndaquil in his arms. "… I couldn’t ask something of that from you though. I mean… still a stranger and all. " She’d already been kind enough to give him the Quick Claw, the last thing he wanted to do was to seem like some scrub who took advantage of others. That was certainly not an image he wanted.
"Twitchy?" Sebastian paused, shuffling slightly in his stance as he seemed to consider the question seriously for a moment, finally giving a sort of half nod. "Yes. Yes he is. " He watched as Houndoom returned with a TM, impressed at the find.
Spade had watched Cyndaquil’s failed charge attempt with a look that read cautious confusion. He redirected his gaze to Houndoom, locking eyes with the other pokemon as he did. Another little twitch and another little cautious observing, before he took a step or two forward, pausing and then quickly skittering back to hover at Sebastian’s side.

Keeping her arms limp at her sides, Ajicka gave a half sort of shrug. "Take it however you want," she replied dully. It wasn't really a compliment. Or at least not intended to be. Wasn't an insult, either. It just wasn't that weird. Dark pokemon were considered 'cool' by a lot of people, for both valid, and incredibly stupid, reasons. At least his, she assumed, had some kind of reason to it. A practicality to the preference, rather than just an aesthetic or reputation reason.
She scratched the back of her neck a bit when Sebastian commented on her strategy with Jas, but shrugged. "I like to get my pokemon so that they can defeat pokemon of their own kind, and those that have type advantages against them, so that I don't have to rely on always using pokemon of the opposite type to win. It comes off a little... cheap when you use it all the time, to me," she replied, shrugging, "That's just my preference, though." And it was one she would probably stand by. She wasn't sure what Houndoom's moveset was, and honestly, she wasn't positive he could learn any ground or rock moves, but she would certainly see what she could teach him, once she had her eight badges down.
She glanced back at Houndoom as they talked over how she got him, shrugging a little to the guy's questions. "Nope, just wanted to see him. Some rich lady with a whim, I guess, but she gave away good stuff to those who could fulfill it. Definitely worked out as a win, double win for me," she commented. She wouldn't go so far as to say that they were her favorite... but she had to admit that fire type pokemon were kind of growing on her. She still liked her variety, though.
Giving a shake of her head, her frown grew a bit, practically answering his question without her having to say anything. "No. I wanted to get my eight badges, then take a break, since I'd be starting up in a new region anyway, and it's just a little rude to go into the first few gyms with pokemon strong enough to take on the toughest gym leaders. So I figured I'd train up my other pokemon. Apparently, though... taking a break now was a better idea," she stated, her disagreement with the idea very evident. But, she'd agreed to it, and she couldn't ignore that Elle likely knew what she was talking about. She just hoped this break didn't have to be too long...
She stared with wide, disapproving eyes as Cyndaquil seemed to charge its trainer. Wat. Her gaze did not leave him even after Sebastian questioned her. She stared a good, long moment at the pokemon, before looking away, processing that, and then lifting her usual serious gaze back to Sebastian. "Okay," she said, then gave a bigger shrug with a roll of her eyes, "Then I won't. But I really don't care. I have to train, anyway, and the pokemon there, from what I remember, are about the right difficulty." She shrugged again, turning to look over at Houndoom and Mightyena, and then shifting her gaze to Fearow, who was looking bored. She rolled her eyes a bit at his attitude, returning him and turning back to Sebastian as she tucked the pokeball away.
"Huh... Well, I'm not that familiar with Mightyena, but I hope that means he can still battle fine. Especially since your cyndaquil seems mostly... out of commission," she commented. She looked at the now asleep pokemon in the trainer's arms, then brought her gaze back up to Sebastian's face. "I should probably get on training. If you want to move on to a tougher area, you're welcome to join... but if not, I may go ahead," she commented. Like she said... she didn't really like taking breaks, not even when she was technically on a break.
Houndoom met Spade's gaze for a moment, lowering his head, his front legs a bit spread out, his tail swishing behind him, but his demeanor detached from what might otherwise read as an aggressive form. His eyes were wary, uncertain... and his tail had just... a slight, almost playful wag to it. He lifted his head and straightened up when the pokemon ran off, though, turning, and walking to Ajicka's side, looking down at the ground, and busying himself with smelling at the grass nearby.

"Mm… well that’s certainly a good tactic if you’re in a pinch." Sebastian remarked, seeming to question something. She was still sort of cheating, the way she put it… just a little less obvious. But that was neither his judgement to make, and hey, if it worked, it worked. It was certainly something he’d have to consider looking into for his own pokemon if things got like that.
"Really? People just wanting to see specific types of pokemon hm…?" Interesting. Seemed… like a very fanatical thing to some degree. But if it was a double-win, it was a double win.
"Well, I’m sure whoever encouraged you to take a break had your best interests at heart. " With the way she’d come off the first time he’d seen her, the break was needed. He couldn’t really say though; what did he know? Still, breaks were good. "Just don’t let it turn into some decade long break or anything."
He shook his head and gave a chuckle. "It is a bit rude, isn’t it? ‘Course you’d think the gym leaders might be use to that by now." Sebastian didn’t seem to respond to the disapproving gaze, just shifting the Cynadaquil in his arms once more.
"Well if you want, I will certainly take any extra Houndoom you catch off your hands." He joked, shifting Cyndaquil to one, freeing another short of give a dismissive wave to the side. "I can’t give you any neat gifts for it though. Maybe I can dig a nice hole?" That was actually a rather terrible joke to try and make.
"The twitching has never stopped him before. I’m sure once we’re out and about, he’ll be great." That’s what he was hoping anyways. His family wouldn’t have sent Spade out to him if they hadn’t thought it’d be good for the Mightyena.
"Nah, it’s fine. If you want to go find a tougher training spot you can. I didn’t mean to hold you up for so long." He really hadn’t either; but it’d been a pleasant enough encounter, at least he thought so, and she’d been rather nice despite him being some stranger. If she was looking to train then it was only fitting he let her get about her business.

Looking to the side, she gave a slight shrug. In a pinch... or just didn't want to go the typical route. Personally, she would rather have two pokemon on the same general playing field, type wise, and have the one with the better moveset win. That was a better test of being a trainer. Or, even better, defeat an opponent with an equal type advantage. It got a little sketchy there, but really, if both pokemon were hitting hard, then the one that stayed up the longest was simply the toughest, through strategy or sheer strength. Either way... anyone could go into a gym and wipe it out with one or two pokemon made to defeat them. It was much harder to fight using similar typing given the immediate disadvantage of lower levels. Not that she wouldn't be using... some advantages in her final battle. She just didn't plan to wipe them all out with one or two typed pokemon.
Ajicka nodded, lifting her shoulders up a bit. "Old people are weird," she said, "Even more so when they're bored and rich. If you're ever on Sevii Islands, you may hear about it then, too. Her name was... Selfie or something." She shook her head. It really was weird. And she would probably release at least one of the other pokemon she had caught for the old coot, since she couldn't really see herself with a Klefki. But, for now, she'd wait and see. All the pokemon had agreed to come with her for now, after all.
Much as she didn't like to hear it, she had to give a begrudging nod to Sebastian's assumption. Elle did have the best interests at heart, and she had better knowledge. She smirked, though, at his own reference. "Trust me, I won't. I can hardly go a day without training in some way or another. I think going ten years would just about end me," she replied. The day that happened... She shuddered just to think about it. Even if she managed to accomplish her goal of becoming Champion of a region, she wouldn't stop training. There was just always something to do, some pokemon to train, a gym to challenge.
"I'm sure they're at least used to people coming in with their pokemon specialized to defeat them," she remarked, smirking, "Not sure how accustomed they are to having over leveled monsters enter their gym." Course, it was always possible they had a method of handling those situations. It did seem sort of inevitable that people might go challenge other gyms after they had gone through their own region, or even while they were just training.
She gave an absent nod at his joke, but then looked back at him when he made the playful offer of payback, giving a very unimpressed look. "That's terrible," she commented, but then smirked a bit, "And hopefully something I wouldn't need for a long, long time. Just treat it well and train it, and we'll be even." She was fine with people getting pokemon, so long as they taught them well, and treated them right.
She nodded absently to his comment about Spade, glancing down at the pokemon, but then shifting away. "Alright," she agreed rather easily, "Good luck in your training, then. Maybe I'll see you at the first gym. Might as well try and get some more badges while I'm taking this break from Kanto, after all." She turned to Houndoom, reaching back for her pokeball. "I'll let you out later, alright?" she told him, lifting it up. He gave a conceding bow of his head, and she returned him, calling to Arrow as she put the pokeball away. "See ya," she said, giving a nod to Sebastian, and then reaching out to grab onto Arrow, and swing herself up as he sept down to pick her up, flapping his wings to quickly rise back up, and fly off.

"I hear you on that." Ah, how many elderly people had he listened to regaling the tales of their pokemon adventures when they visited for services? Too many to count. Really there was something to be said of someone of such age sharing such things; he could only imagine someone requesting to see them was trying to recall fond memories. Maybe. He didn’t remark concerning the gym leader thing. He supposed that was possible… though it seemed unlikely with how many badges were available that they hadn’t encountered that issue once or twice. Of course, he didn’t know for sure; and if other trainers held the same perspective as Ajicka, then maybe it was possible they didn’t worry about such things.
He rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. "It was. Sorry. Graveyard humor is easy humor." At the mention of treating it well and training it, he gave a grin and a little salute. "Of course, you should expect nothing less." Far be it from him to be one of those people to do anything less than care for pokemon in his care. Even if the twitchy Mightyena and narcotic Cyndaquil seemed to suggest otherwise.
He gave a wave at her then as she set off. "Same to you! It was a pleasure meeting you, Ajicka." Spade glanced over as Houndoom was called back, head snapping up as Arrow appeared and Ajicka climbed onto his back. "And I hope so. Though… do take it easy. "
Sebastian watched her fly off, giving a final wave before looking back at Spade. "Alright then, let’s get training eh?"

- Since Cyndaquil had opted to go back to sleep, Sebastian returned him to his pokeball. He’d teach him the TM Fire Blast later, when the pokemon was awake once more and he could see the move in action. For now though, it was best to get Spade some action. Sebastian needed to make sure the Mightyena grew accustomed to fighting and all.
They moved through the grass some more, until what appeared to be an oversized lady bug crossed their path. A quick pokedex scan recognized it as a Ledyba. Sebastian just quirked an eyebrow, looking at Spade and gesturing him forward.
"Alright Spade, let’s see what you can do. Use tackle." The Mightyena twitched, giving his trainer an inquisitive gaze before quickly jumping forward to challenge. The Ledyba gave a less than enthused cry before falling over K.O’ed from Spade slamming into it with a full forced tackle. Sebastian frowned, watching as it came back around and fled, rubbing the back of his neck.
"I’m thinking we should move over here..." He said aloud. He’d give it a few more before making that call. Spade just twitched and returned to hovering at Sebastian’s side, giving a little gruff in response.

- A little more shuffling through the grass and Sebastian and Spade stumbled upon a pokemon that he immediately recognized; a Caterpie. Seemed that no matter what region you were in, there was a glorious infestation of the things. Sebastian glanced at Spade and gave a nod again to indicate it was his fight.
"Alright Spade, tackle again." The Mightyena only hesitated a moment to twitch, before darting at the unsuspecting bug pokemon and whomping it swiftly with a tackle attack, eyes instantly going dizzy. Sebastian considered for a moment catching it; Caterpie eventually evolved into Butterfree. He wasn’t sure if he’d need it… but it was good to add something to his team. With that, he threw a pokeball, hoping for a catch.

That had been a slightly tougher battle, but not by much. Spade had still handled the Caterpie without much trouble; it seemed like it might be worth it to move to another area. He opted to give it one more go before hand though. It’d been long enough, Cyndaquil might be awake by now to make the move worthwhile.
Shuffling back through the grass on the way to the Pokecenter, Sebastian’s foot caught on something and he found himself nearly kissing dirt because of it. He stumbled and caught himself though, looking back to the rather agitated chittering of a Weedle. No seriously, the bug infestation. Everywhere. He turned about, seeing Spade making for a tackle to the creature.
"Hold on Spade." The Mightyena halted in its tracks, looking back at Sebastian with slight confusion. "Use Crunch this time." In case Cyndaquil wasn’t up for fighting just yet, the young man wanted to make sure the Mightyena had the extra power to handle tougher opponents. Spade just gave a twitchy nod, immediately charging the Weedle and chomping down on it. Sebastian sort of winced at the sound; okay, that was a little overkill. But it gave him an idea at least. The Weedle of course didn’t see what hit it, KO’ing and coming around to quickly flee into the forest, probably in terror.

Sebastian and Spade finally managed to get out of the wild grass with no further scuffles. Which was good, because Sebastian was starting to feel a bit bad about the ease of the fights. Not that he wanted him or his pokemon to get in over their heads, like Ajicka had. But they certainly deserved some kind of a challenge, in both directions.
He headed over to the Pokecenter, Spade in tow half-hovering, half-leaning into the side of his leg as they moved, keeping an eye out on their surroundings and twitching along the way as they did. He entered in, handing over Caterpie’s pokeball to Nurse Joy, keeping Spade and Cyndaquil’s. They hadn’t taken any kind of damage after all. Caterpie however… ya it needed the help.
Sebastian whistled a little tune as he waited, lowering a hand down and giving Shade a reassuring pat on the head. He was rather proud how the Mightyena had dealt with the battles; easy or not. Hopefully, he’d keep up this momentum. Shade just twitched in response, nuzzling against his trainer’s leg and watching the inhabitants of the Pokecenter as they went about their own business.

- Once he’d gotten the pokeball back and thanked Nurse Joy for the help, he and Spade exited back outside. Sebastian pulled out his pokegear, checking his map. There was the Dark Cave apparently nearby they could go too, but he wasn’t too sure how confident he felt taking his team into a dark cave… it certainly didn’t seem a wise choice. There was also Violet City as well, where the first gym was. It might be worth it to go there and train a bit on the outskirts before developing an idea on how to take the gym leader. Hopefully the wild pokemon were a bit stronger too. Hopefully there was potential to find some pokemon who could help him in the upcoming gym battle. Ajicka had mentioned maybe grabbing a rock-type… an electric-type would work too though, right?
Still thinking over his plan of action and with his pokemon healed up and back at his side, Sebastian headed out down the route to Violet City.
