Alex and Eevee had made it back into Mt. Moon, this time hoping that things might go a little smoother. The water pokemon trainer didn't want to wait around to find out, so he started to walk. Even though he wanted to get this over with, it wasn't a short walk to Cerulean City. With that in mind, he went at a good pace, but not so fast as to lose his way. Just like before, he used the same well lit tunnels in hopes of not getting lost this time.

Alex continued to make his way through Mt. Moon. Eevee as usual was perched on his shoulder and of course didn't mind her trainer doing all the walking. This time, the water pokemon trainer was trying his best to not get lost. It was pretty easy to keep on track since the mountain was well lit for being a cave. The only thing that might derail their trip to Cerulean City, would be a bug type pokemon showing itself at the wrong time. Luckily, this time that wasn't the case, nothing showed up. Alex looked up ahead and could finally see the bright light of the exit. They had made it and would soon be back out in the fresh air. "I guess it doesn't take as long if I don't get us lost." He said with a weak laugh, knowing that it was his fault it took so long the first time around.

Alex was excited to get back to Cerulean City. The last time he was there was just prior to heading the other way to Pewter City. This time he planned to stay there a little longer and do a bit of training. Alex didn't think it would be fun, using Blastoise for all the gym battles. It was a lot more interesting, winning while using new and different pokemon. The only reason he carried so many on him, was the fact he was planning to use all his pokemon. It wasn't like he was using them only for battling, Alex was the type to try and make friends with as many pokemon as he could. With the help of Cresselia, Slowking, and Espeon, he was also able to communicate better with all the others. It was more fulfilling to get to know all his pokemon, not just for how they battled. Time seemed to have passed quickly as he thought about many various things he still wanted to accomplish. The duo appeared at the exit to Mt. Moon. It hadn't taken as much time as he thought, so without hesitation, he headed out of the mountain and found himself just outside of Cerulean City. This was it, the place he would train, he didn't know what kind of pokemon were in this part of the region, but there was an easy way to find out.

It wasn't long at all before thy were back outside and overlooking Misty's domain. Mitsu beamed and stretched before taking off one of his shoes to get a pebble out of it. Even his socks were designer, made by himself, so Mitsu was actually very balanced and he stood like a crane as he tipped his shoe until the pebble came out and hit the dirt. Putting his shoe back on, he noticed Mizu and Hanataro looking at him curiously and he laughed a bit."What? I don't want my socks covered in dirt. Was that a bit too obsessive? Sorry."Mitsu was suddenly blinded by a bright light and covered his eyes a bit, glancing over at Flynn as he glowed brilliantly. Ah! He was evolving! Yes~! That was perfect! Soon enough, the Charmander that stood next to him was replaced by a handsome young Chameleon and Mitsu beamed, clapping his hands excitedly."You look great, Flynn~! Stunning! Darren blinked a few times as Sable suggested he knew the area better since she wasn't from around here. He knew that, yes, but... A mountain was a mountain. Even if he was more familiar with the area, similar biomes tended to have a lot of similar pokemon... As she frowned and started to explain though, he felt a bit embarrassed, realizing how arrogant he'd probably come off as when questioning Sable's choice of party, and even though he (thankfully) hadn't spoken on his earlier thoughts, he began to regret even thinking them. It was incredibly rude, even if was mostly out of concern, but he should have known and expected that Sable wouldn't have put the little Joltik in harms way. She wasn't stupid. He tried to figure out a way to apologize, but by then Sable had already moved off to arrange her team and Darren himself had gotten sidetracked, talking to Jin about incense, and when Sable had come back, she raised a point about proximity. It was a good idea. A wide berth would be nice to have so that they could see the pokemon coming, but Darren was distracted as Sable seemed to enjoy his comment about being flattened into a pancake. Was that a giggle he'd heard? Darren's mouth quirked up into a silly grin, happy to make her laugh, and with that, they were off.
The happy moment didn't last long though, as Sable commented on the length of their stay, hoping that it would be a good long while before having to do something similar again. Darren glanced over at Sable with a smile of mixed feelings. "Heh... Yeah. Honestly I would hope it just doesn't happen again at all, but knowing me I'll probably go and...." Darren trailed off with a frown. At first he'd meant it as a joke at his clumsiness, but as he began to actually say the words, he realized that it was entirely possible Void could give Sable grief. It's an incense, so all the pokemon summoned will be level ten, the pokemon that Darren is using will go first and one shot every pokemon, so no need to worry about rolling for status things, and then using a pokemon on a fainted level 10 pokemon has a 9/10 chance of capture, so it's basically guranteed, and if for some reason I roll a 10, another roll will likely capture the pokemon, and I'd just make a quick edit to the post. Sable couldn't help but huff with some amusement when Darren trailed off, not quite realizing the troubles that lay behind his concern."You'll what? Fall down a hole or something?"she offered, then gave him a sheepish smile."Well, if something like that does happen, at least we have my board to get you out... Or use as a stretcher."She hesitated a bit at that last part, since she didn't like the idea of Darren getting hurt from a bad fall. Not that she wanted either of them to get injured again, but if forced with the choice, she'd much rather keep her buddies from being hurt if she was able to prevent it.
After a bit more walking, Darren apologized for the misunderstanding earlier. Sable ended up frowning a bit, since she hadn't exactly been mad in the first place."I can't say I blame you for thinking about it a different way than I was. I mean, Frizz does seem to be pretty new to the idea of training, and there was that incident with Chili,"she replied, trying to first get the guy to stop feeling guilty about the whole thing."It's not like you were actually trying to insult me or something, so don't worry about it,"Sable assured him, giving the teen a cheerful grin as the duo headed into the caves.
Sable actually seemed to relax a bit as she entered the tunnels. They didn't exactly impress the trainer as much as they might have if she were someone different, but it felt comfortable for her to be under the ground after having been traveling above it for the time she had been. It seemed Darren enjoyed the area too and Sable let out a small chuckle as her travel buddy went to go see a dig site."Depends on what the point was, but if I'd have to guess, someone or a group of someones might have been trying to dig a new tunnel and they ended up digging up a fossil or something else of value to researchers,"she offered as a potential explanation, then quickly grabbed Darren by the arm and pulled him away from the edge as a chunk of the ground started to break off and fall down to the bottom of the dig site."Also, careful. Those edges aren't always stable."The warning was a bit late, but still a valid one since that wasn't likely to be the only hole the group would find."I was joking about the idea of you falling. I'd rather for that to not be a joke I regret making."There was a large amount of concern in the teen's voice as she made sure they both were on stable ground once more.
With that bit of trouble taken care of, Sable set about dealing with a small piece of business she had said she'd deal with earlier. The trainer let out her joltik, who seemed a bit less skittish while inside the caves, so that she was resting in the palm of her hand."Hey there, Frizz. Your turn to get an upgrade,"the teen cooed as she placed the ball back onto her belt and grabbed the two Heart Scales she had left. It wasn't like she couldn't get more later, and there wasn't much point in hoarding them if they were just going to collect dust. Upon making contact with the tiny lightning bug, the two scales crumbled away, causing the little insect pokemon to scurry up her trainer's arm in fright."H-hey. It's o-okay. Y-you're okay."Sable really was trying to soothe her pokemon's nerves, but it was kind of difficult when the little legs of her joltik were tickling her and causing her to giggle.

Incense first, then Rockets. I figure the last pokemon Darren goes against could be an onix, and all the thrashing around it does weakens the floor enough that it breaks after the pokemon is captured. Either the group lands where some Rockets were already gathered, or some baddies show up to investigate all the racket before the group can climb out or find another route.

Darren chuckled along with Sable as she suggested he would fall down a hole, glad she took his comment the way he'd meant it starting off. It certainly helped keep his mind off of the darker side of things. Though... He supposed falling down a hole wasn't exactly a much brighter topic. "Wellll......" Darren laughed, rubbing the back of his head, inferring that it was very well probable he would fall down a hole when he wasn't paying attention. Sable at least seemed to take it into good humor, suggesting that if such an event ever occurred, they could use her hoverboard to pull him out.... Or use as a stretcher. "Could do both." Darren grinned, clearly not taking his own safety seriously. He did feel the need to apologize for his comment back at the pokemon center though, seeing Sable frown and feel the need to defend her thought process made him worry he'd offended her. Thankfully it seemed he hadn't, since she understood his thought process and concern, though he grimaced when she insisted that it was obvious he wasn't trying to insult her. While he was happy that she was understanding and forgiving, he could only assume it wouldn't last forever. "You say that now, but I'm willing to bet that eventually there will come a day that my ceaseless babbling will get on your nerves. True, I don't usually intend to insult others by criticizing or questioning, I still.... Worry, I suppose, that one day I might say something that you'd perceive badly, even if it was unintentional.... I have been known to do such things." Darren smiled weakly. Honestly he was surprised Sable had put up with him this long. He'd been assigned on a mission or two with a few different other rookie Void members. Generally by this point they were yelling at him to shut up already... So either he was exceptionally gifted with driving other people up a wall and Sable was extremely patient, or those Void members were just really easily irritable. Possibly both.
Entering the mountain had gotten Darren all excited as he looked this way and that with an eager expression before moving to take a closer look at a nearby digsite, wondering aloud who had dug it all up. Sable suggested that it could have been a group trying to dig a new tunnel, but ended up finding a fossil instead. "Mm, Pewter does have that fossil research center. I'm sure they'd be interested in anything valuable found around here." He agreed, though he was startled as some of the ground at the edge started to crumble. Though almost as soon as he'd noticed, Sable caught his arm, pulling his back firmly to safety, insisting that the edges weren't stable, and that while she had been joking about falling into a hole, she would rather him not actually do it. Darren gulped, nodding. "Y-yeah... Sorry... And er... Thanks...." He muttered apologetically.
While Sable tended to Frizz, Darren supposed he should let his pokemon out as well, so he grabbed Flynn and Hercules' pokeballs, tossing them into the air to sent the fire and water types out with a flash of light. Their sudden appearance probably hadn't helped the poor joltik's nerves once she had touched and dissolved the heart scales she was given, but Sable seemed to be managing to calm her down, though stifled giggles at the ticklish fluffy legs skittering up her arm. Darren smiled, watching her with amusement. "Hey, looks like theres a bit of a clearing just up ahead. I think that should suit your incense lighting conditions." He chuckled, nodding in the direction of the spot he was referring to. "Come on, let's go check it out." He offered with a smile, starting to head over.

Sable watched warily as Darren continued to apologize for how he was when it came to talking with people. Obviously, whoever he had been around wasn't for tolerating idle conversation."Darren? I'm gonna be honest, here,"the teen started, giving him a concerned frown."Unless I'm really, really wrong about the kind of guy you are, I think the only way I'd actually get angry with you talking is if we're trying to sneak past a snoozing gyarados or something like that,"she explained, not quite realizing what sort of challenge she might be setting up."I mean, yeah, there are things that could be said that'd make me want to place my boot so far up your bum you'll be tasting the imitation leather afterwards... But you'd have to be someone vastly different from the kind of guy I'm pretty sure you are in order to say and actually mean those things, get it?"Okay, that explanation might not have been the best one, but it was fairly accurate as far as the teen was aware.
Thankfully, the topic drifted away from the two teen's failures at communication and instead settled on what the dig site near the entrance was actually doing there. Sable might not have been all that familiar with how things worked in the area, but she definitely knew how new sections of the local mines got opened up. Holes get dug for one reason, someone finds something spiffy, and suddenly someone wants that spot expanded to try and get more of it. Just, instead of ores and special crystals, the teen figured fossils might be more likely given the gym leader's specialty in rock types and the fact that he participated in the digging. That conversation got about as far as Darren agreeing with Sable due to the presence of a fossil research center before the poor guy's curiosity brought him a bit too close to the edge. It was a lucky break that Sable opted to prevent a potential problem before explaining it since the edge of the dig site didn't seem like it was willing to wait for a bit of fair warning before crumbling away."Y... Yeah. No problem..."Sable muttered in return once the danger had passed, then quickly let go and backed up once she realized she still had a rather tight grip on Darren's arm. The teen felt quite glad for the moment that the caves weren't well lit since she could feel her face grow warm due to the blood rushing to her cheeks.
Needing something to help take her mind off her embarrassment, the desert trainer decided to let out her joltik now so that the little pokemon could learn some new moves. Of course, since Darren decided it was also a good opportunity to let out his own pokemon, the moment of calm didn't last long as, immediately after learning the moves from the heart scales, Frizz tried to hide herself under her trainer's cloak by climbing Sable's arm to safety. That was fine while she was on the gloves, but once she was off them, there was no controlling the giggles as Sable was assaulted by the sensation of a tiny, fuzzy thing skittering along her skin. Even worse, just before reaching the cloak the timid joltik decided Sable's hair was a better hiding place and scurried up the back of her trainer's neck."Stopstopstopstop..."the desert trainer wheezed between her giggling as the little electric bug nestled into a hiding place right behind one of Sable's ears. Of course, it didn't help at all that, instead of doing something useful, Jin decided to get into a laughing fit while Sable dealt with her little bug problem.
Unfortunately, it seemed the group weren't the only ones aware of the little joltik. A screech suddenly filled the air as a zubat swooped down and attacked Sable. More accurately, it was aiming for the joltik, which, despite the odd typing, seemed like a good snack to the peckish zubat, but given that Frizz was currently hiding in Sable's hair, going after one was about the same as going after the other. The bat pokemon didn't want a mouthful of human, though, and first tried screeching by the teen's ear in and attempt to force the joltik to flee. All it ended up with for its trouble was a shout in its own ear and an accidental backhand as Sable tried to turn toward the source of the sudden loud noise in order to confront it. While the bat pokemon tried to orient itself, Sable quickly grabbed at a ball and tossed it out in front of her. The zubat's mouth was wide as it tried to swoop down, but instead of letting out another screech, it ended up with a mouth full of feathers as Sable's pidgey materialized. About the only meal it was going to get the hard way as the pidgey retaliated with a gust of hot wind, causing the zubat to fly away in search of easier prey.
Sable let out a groan when Darren pointed out an open area, not because she felt one way or the other about it, but because that astonishing screech in her ear had left her with a large headache."Y-yeah... Sounds good... Just hope there's a big enough rock to sit on..."she quietly mumbled in response as she dug in her bag for a pain pill. It wouldn't do anything about the high-pitched ringing noise in her right ear, but it'd at least help to dull the headache, and that was the important part. She also pulled out a potion and spritzed the spot where her pidgey had been bitten when she came near. It wasn't a deep bite, but Sable still didn't want to risk the bird pokemon getting an infection or something. As for Frizz, Sable would have to wait until she could sit down to try and console the tiny joltik. In the meantime, though, she was willing to bear with the feeling of being tickled behind her ear if it meant the little electric bug was getting some comfort after that ordeal.

Darren blinked in surprise at Sable's explanation, smiling a bit sheepishly. He supposed he was rather well mannered in comparison to other people, and he certainly wasn't the type to go around insulting people for no good reason, so he supposed she had a point about taking into account what kind of guy he was. That and, she would be rightfully pissed if he decided to start talking when they were sneaking past a sleeping gyarados. And yes, he was sure there were plenty of things he could say to enrage Sable, but she made it perfectly clear that he would have to be basically anyone but his usual mild mannered self to say or even actually mean those things. He fidgeted a bit in discomfort even at the thought, holding back a bit at her somewhat exaggerated threats. Not that he thought she wouldn't actually follow through with them if he deserved it, but because he knew he likely wouldn't be doing anything to deserve it. In the end, when Sable looked for confirmation that he understood, Darren gave a hesitant nod. "Mm..." He agreed, glancing down at the ground as he still somewhat shuffled about with his hands in his pockets and dragging a bit behind Sable as they walked. Finally, after a moment, Sable would be pulled into a gentle hug from behind as Darren wrapped his long arms around her stomach and rested his head on top of hers, having to drape over her a bit to overcome the size difference. Not that Darren really minded. "Thanks Sable~" He chimed happily with a content smile on his face.
The hug lasted for a short moment before Darren let go and began to walk briskly around the entrance of the mountain before settling on the dig site. And to think he almost predicted their next extended pokemon center stay.... It was a good thing Sable had urged him back, though as she grew flustered about holding his arm, Darren hadn't really noticed, instead more focused on thanking his lucky stars that he hadn't fallen in. With a light sigh of relief, he tuned back in as Sable let out her joltik, figuring he should probably let out his own pokemon so that he was prepared to battle wild pokemon, though frankly he was far too amused by Sable's giggle fit, about as useful as Jin was being when it came to her bug problem. Once things had seemed to have calmed down, Darren offered up a spot that seemed open enough to fit Sable's qualifications, but they were interrupted by a zubat who was apparently looking to scream Frizz off of Sable. It might have worked, if Sable didn't react with a jolt and a swat in response. Frankly, Darren probably would have too if that thing had screamed in his ear. Once it was taken care of, Darren attempted to make his offer once again, and Sable agreed, though she was clearly still quite disoriented from the screech. With a light frown, he approached her as she dug through her bag. "Yeah, there's one just over there. Here let me--" Darren took her arm in an attempt to gently lead her over to a suitable seating. "Sorry, I probably should have warned about the zubats.... You okay...?" He chuckled.

Given how quiet Darren had gotten, Sable had been pretty sure she had botched her explanation somehow or made it a lot worse for the teen. It wouldn't have been the first time. Feeling she had said far too much, the redhead was more than willing to let the conversation lapse into silence for a while, and it seemed Darren had come to the same conclusion. That's part of why it caught Sable by surprise and caused her to let out a startled squeak when she was suddenly hugged from behind and thanked."I-it's, ah, n-no problem..."she stammered as her body tensed up and her face turned red. It seemed she wasn't done with being flustered yet, though, as she soon had to keep Darren from falling down a pit and became embarrassed over holding onto his arm for what she thought was a bit too long.
It wasn't too long after that that Darren suggested a location for him to light up his incense. That was great, but it seemed a wild zubat had something to say about the idea as it went after Frizz. Unfortunately, the joltik's current hiding place meant Sable ended up getting dragged into the battle a bit more than she liked, and although the wild pokemon was dealt with handily, the trainer was still a bit dazed."Y-yeah... Alright..."Sable mumbled in vague agreement when Darren helped guide her over to a good-sized rock to sit on. It was still a bit off-putting, but Sable was starting to get used to Darren's helpful streak."I'll... Be fine... Just need to get this headache to calm down..."the teen muttered as a reply to Darren's concern, then quietly let out a sigh.
