Mal blinked for a moment, "You'll go with her?" he repeated just to make sure he got all that straight.
Natsha blinked, "But...I thought you wanted others to be around, look out for you? That's what the crew does. You'll be part of us - I'll look out for you, don't worry!"

"He doesn't want me," Totchli said with a small shrug, not seeming overly concerned. After all, rejection was something he was very familiar with. "I don't need people around. I was fine, happy" ish "alone. But you came back. I'll stay with you." It all made sense in his head. He wasn't sure why they didn't seem to understand.

He made a face. "I don't care what he thinks of me...." Something else occurred to him and he glanced at the reefs uncertainly. "This place where you live... are there many places to hide there?"

Natasha tilted her head, "A whole cavern dedicated to it, as a fact. My uncle needs to hide his treasures that he collects..."

Natasha chirped, "She?" at that statement and found herself feeling inexplicably saddened. How unusual for her.

Totchli nodded. "Velvet... she lives in the reefs as well. If I go, no one will be here to protect her. She needs protection."

"Oh," she said feeling some sort of releasing relief. "Of course she is welcomed to! Papa and Uncle Zo each befriended alligators so we're used to the extra company!"

"Ali... alligators?" he stared at her for a moment. "They won't eat Velvet will they?" He couldn't take the shy little dolphin somewhere she'd be in more danger. And he couldn't leave her behind...

He wasn't sure about that. In his experience, family was the first to leave. Still, he let it go this time and nodded. "I'll get her... if you want to go?" Mal had ceased to exist in his mind. He'd already filed the other male away as unimportant.

"Of course," she said with a brisk nod. "We'll go there now. I promise you won't regret it."
Mal rolled his eyes realized just how important he had gotten in his old age. It seemed not too long ago he was the apple of his daughter's eyes and now. He shrugged, "Come along Squishy, I think these two might just be able to manage on their own..."

Totchli glanced at the stallion, surprised to see him still there. He shook his head again and started to the reefs. "I'll go get her...." he paused just before going in, realizing that he'd have to let Natasha out of his sight to do so. "Um... would you like to come?"
Squishy squeaked at him, stubbornly floating where she could watch the show.
