Looking: Like Trouble At: Flourish and Blotts With: Morven
I wonder if Morven actually realized Mum owned this place?>

Benjamin laughed at Morven's eye roll and said, "Oh, I'd rather actually get decent grades believe it or not. But, why work harder than I have to? I have a best friend who is a Ravenclaw for a reason. He takes notes for the both of us." He grinned widely and said, "Too bad the weasel isn't taking like any of the same electives as me. I should so totally stop fixing our astronomy notes for him."

He was still laughing as Morven looked fairly annoyed by his new naming of her and didn't say anything when she snapped that she didn't need anything and he was about to point out they didn't allow loitering in the shop (or at least when it wasn't Timothy-but Timothy helped out sort of, when he wasn't reading the books or Benjamin was distracting the Ravenclaw with his typical jokes) when Morven finally admitted the books she needed. "That all?" Benjamin asked sounding the slightest bit disappointed when he glanced to where a redhead woman was helping some customers and he said, "They are sorted by- I can show you!" He said interrupting his first statement and taking the lead towards where the school books are.

"New or used? I prefer used, but I go through the used books to find which one was sold to us by some super overachiever who adds useful and right notes in the book. Ravenclaws are sort of a crapshoot on who puts notes on margins but the Gryffindors who do study always take notes in the margins and usually add a few answers to random homework assignments there," He rambled, turning around, "So what is your preference?"

spaceIvy's eyes narrowed in curiosity when her mother stiffened at the man's words, her mouth forming the word 'squib' with a questioning glance at the middle aged woman. Her mother ignored her, staring hard at the man for a long moment before saying, somewhat reluctantly, "... Squib. And only child. I never... this is the first time I've even been to Diagon since I got married," she confessed, mouth drawn into a tight line. Typically, Evelyn didn't admit to being a squib if she could avoid it, but he'd said his parents were muggles. Muggleborns didn't typically carry any sort of prejudice against people like her. The words had been spoken quietly, so that no one else would overhear; she didn't care to have some self-righteous pureblood interrupting her conversation with their obnoxious attitude.

spaceHer daughter groaned again, this time as melodramatically as she could manage, when the boy said that the man with him would want to talk now. "Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugh, kill me now," she intoned dramatically. "It just figures that I finally get mum to take me to the magical world, and I end up spending all afternoon surrounded by a bunch of stupid books." The conversation between the older man and the boy filled the redhead with a sense of kinship with her fellow first year, if only because it was obvious that neither of them wanted to be here, and that both of them were being drug about by someone who couldn't care less what they wanted. She whistled low, crossing her arms and shaking her head. "Parents," she muttered, though from the fact that the kid called the man 'Grayson' and not dad or something like that, it was pretty safe to say that he wasn't the boy's father.

spaceThe preteen glanced at the boy, arching her brow in curiosity. He was apparently going to be her classmate, right? Maybe her mum would ease up on the whole grounded thing if she proved she was capable of a normal social interaction. "I'm Ivy," she told him, prompting a confused look from her mother. What, like she couldn't talk to people? She wasn't some insane person who just went around punching people. She'd only done it to the prat outside because he'd deserved it. "... Did I hear you say something about magical sports?" she asked, just for something to talk to the boy about. She would bet that the sports wizards played were probably nothing like the sort that she preferred to participate in, but she liked sports well enough. And it'd probably do her some good to learn about them; she didn't want to look like a complete idiot when she got to Hogwarts, after all.

Morven gave him a strange look. "My apologies for not cleaning the shop out," she muttered. He sounded almost let down to hear she didn't have much of a list. And he could have just pointed her in the right direction, she thought sourly, but at least he seemed to lead her straight to the school books, instead of on a wild goose chase through the shop. She followed after him, and looked over the books, listening to him chatter on and on. She couldn't remember him ever being this talkative.

She normally would have insisted on buying new- Morven had never gone to any great lengths to rub the fact that she was wealthy in people's faces, but she didn't exactly hide it either, and she'd never had anything used in her life- however, the idea of not having to take her own notes and maybe even some of her homework was extremely appealing. She picked up a more worn looking book and started flipping through it. "Used," she finally said. "Help me find ones with promising looking writing in them." The word for this was probably something like 'unscrupulous' but she preferred 'shrewd'.

Benjamin shrugged when Morven muttered about not cleaning the shop out. He went back to playing nonchalant acting as if he hadn't said anything about the short book list as he reached the books and then paused as Morven picked up one of the used books that was in decent shape and said that she wanted used and the ones with the promising looking writing.

"Hmm?" Benjamin said, "And what's in it for me? The skill in picking a book out with promising writing is an important and rare gift. It is something I have spent hours perfecting. Why waste my hard work on helping you out Mori?"

He chuckled and raised a brow at the book and then said, "I'll tell you this much for free though. That book you are holding there is a decent pick for a complete novice, but it still is all wrong. Something like that will only help you with one or two things at most in your classes you use that book all year. Might as well go new with that being the case."

He shrugged and asked with a smirk, "So, do you want my help finding the best used copies for your needs? Because, like I said, this is a valuable skill so you should pay me back for offering it and letting you borrow that skill if I do help you out."

Morven gave him a look of total and utter 'are you serious' exasperation the minute 'what's in it for me' left his lips. Wasn't it his job to help her? He obviously was responsible for some work here. "Do you ask all the customers here that, or just certain special ones?" she asked sarcastically, but put down the book she was holding. She should have just gone to get herself ice cream. She deserved it, between Rat Face and now this. "What would you want? I bet you don't even know," she commented almost incredulously. Besides a few extra Galleons, she didn't really have any idea what he'd want from her. He was probably going to say something ridiculous, anyways. She flipped a few strawberry blonde locks over her shoulder and shrugged. "I suppose I can make do without your 'skill'. You're right, Seymour, you don't want to waste your hard work on me. It's not really worth it. Thank you for showing me the books; I'll manage." Her tone was so falsely sweet for a few moments it would have made a pastry chef nauseous. That's what you get for calling me Mori, you smug arse, she thought indignantly, before she went back to grabbing books at random to skim the pages. She wondered if she'd actually managed to annoy him for once, instead of the other way around, and tried not to sneak a glance over to see his reaction. When boys got their knickers in a twist they tended to go silent and stalk off or be cruelly funny about things. Whereas girls just tried to murder you with stares alone before they regrouped themselves and went in for the kill.

"I showed you where the books are," Benjamin said with a shrug, "Anything extra I always ask for incentive to make it worth my extra time. Now..." he added with a smirk, "what payment I will accept depends on the customer." He chuckled and then when Morven pointed out he probably didn't even know what he wanted he kept his smirk even though Morven was right. Besides annoying his fellow Slytherin and watching her get irritated-which was immensely entertaining and far more entertaining than pestering most of the girls around his age- he really didn't know. He had just made the payment joke and stuck to it as hard as he did because it would annoy her.

That was when she flipped her hair and instead saying that she could make do without his 'skill' and that it wasn't worth it and that she would manage. "Or you just don't have what would be acceptable payment for such wonderful services," Benjamin joked when all of a sudden he felt a death glare from his mother who had just finished checking out a customer.

Casey Ryans narrowed her eyes at him and snapped quickly, "Deje de coquetear y trabajo!" Benjamin shot a look to his mother and blushed for a moment and muttered under his breath as he quickly picked out several copies of the two used books Morven asked for seemingly at random and muttered, "No estoy coqueteando..."

Glancing up he saw his mother distracted by another customer and throwing a smirk at Morven said, "I'm putting these in the back. They were the true goldmines. You're left with just general used books to chose from. Pity you don't want my help." With a chuckle, carrying the stack he headed towards the back humming some tune at random.

Morven laughed, for the first time since entering the shop. "I told you what I was looking for when you asked and also told you I didn't need anything. You took it upon yourself to show me where they were. You could have just as easily told me, or pointed." She looked dismissive of his smirk, but she was a little disconcerted. He was either being flirtatious on purpose to annoy her, or actually flirting with her. She was going to guess the former. He probably thought it was funny. She didn't dare smirk back; he'd think she fell for it and have a good laugh about it with his mates later. Besides, she was still a year older. He was thirteen and stupid. Fourteen year olds, she decided, were supposed to know better. And she did. Know better. Besides, it wasn't as if there was anything... she looked about eleven, after all, she thought disparagingly, twelve if she was lucky. She was hoping she caught up to the other girls in her year at some point, and sooner rather than later. She looked more bemused rather than offended at his joke, and looked quickly between him and the woman she was assumed was his mother at the counter, who snapped something at him in Spanish, while he reddened and muttered something back. She assumed the woman had told him to get back to work or something like that, and he did indeed pick up two books, which he proceeded to to tell her were 'true goldmines', and that it was a pity she didn't want any help. She tried to snatch one, but he was a fast walker and they were already out of her reach. "Wonderful. Great customer service," she shot a parting jab after him, debated hefting a nearby heavy book at the back of his head, and then let out a short huff of air in annoyance, and rocked back on her heels before turning again to the bins of used books. She knew she wasn't going to last long going through them. If she couldn't find anything useful in used she'd just buy two new. She wasn't that much of a dunce. It wouldn't be the end of the world.

Benjamin ignored Morven's comment about how he could have just as easily told her or pointed. Actually it would have been easier to show her, but shelving books got boring after a while. And bugging Morven was fun. And despite, what his mother had snapped at him he was so not flirting with Morven. What interest did he have in girls really? Sure some of them were cute. And Morven wasn't bad looking and was amusing to pester because she'd get all puffed up even if she was older than him. Then again, there were perks on having a growing spurt early-he was taller than most people. Though, he was sure, in a year or two he'd have to face the prospect of peers catching up to him, and some person was bound to probably end up taller than him.

As he walked away and keeping the books out of Morven's reach he laughed as she shot towards him about his customer service and stuck out his tongue and then said laughing, "Lo siento: su pérdida." However, instead of heading into the back with the two books he stopped at the counter waited for his mother to finish the latest transaction and he said something fairly quickly in Spanish as he pushed the books towards his Mum with a cheeky grin.

Casey narrowed her eyes at her son first and then glanced over at Morven and picked up one of the books and hit him on the head and said taking the books and putting them under the counter, "Dios me ayude... could you act a little less like your father for once?"

Benjamin rubbed his head and narrowed his eyes at him mother and muttered, "Maltrato! And I got sorted into your house after all..." Casey narrowed her eyes at Benjamin and said, "Don't be daft. Te puedo dar por de una razón adecuada a lloriquear."

Benjamin rolled his eyes threw up his hands and stopped in front of the bin of used books Morven was sorting through and not too neatly. "You know if you make a mess, I'm going to be stuck sorting that out. It takes forever," Benjamin said to Morven, arms crossed as he raised a brow at Morven. He didn't bother to say that he told him Mum just to give those books to Morven to buy whenever she came up. Which was probably why his mother had made the jibe about him being like his father. Benjamin had found out only last summer that the reason his dad got kicked out of the library for about a week his fourth year was because he had been caught snogging some girl there. His mother insisted it wasn't her-but Benjamin didn't know if she was lying or not. But sometimes asking too many questions was not worth the threats to his life or being grounded for a ridiculous amount of time.

Morven glanced up and made a face of distaste when he stuck his tongue out at her, childishly. Then she returned to the bins, and though she could faintly hear him talking to his mother, she didn't see what he did with the books. Sure, she was trying her best to eavesdrop, but she could only really distinguish tone. His mother sounded exasperated, him whining. She didn't look up when she heard him coming back over; just sardonically replied, "I'm aware." She should make it into a disaster, just to get back at him, but the owner of this shop was probably watching, and she didn't want to get kicked out. She didn't know why he'd come back to bother her, but evidently he found it better than doing any actual work. She gave a short sigh of frustration, put down the copy of The Dark Forces she'd been looking at, and grabbed two shiny new copies of the books she'd been looking for. Determined to not even give him the satisfaction of her paying attention to him, she turned on her heel, and walked up to the counter, and gave the woman behind it a small, wary smile. His mother was a redhead, after all, now that she saw the woman up close. "These, please," she requested, fishing through her purse for money.

Benjamin frowned when he didn't get much of a response from Morven when she said she was aware he would have to organize it and then she just picked up a copy of new books with a sigh of frustration. He watched as she reached the counter and his mum raised a brow and Casey Ryans said, "Oh? Seymour said something about the two books he brought up here you had wanted but they are the same texts and editions as you have only used... did you choose new instead?"

She shrugged, "It is your choice of course. And if my son annoys you to much feel free to kill or hex him, just do it while you are at school so I don't have to answer any unnecessary ministry questions. And, if you do it in my shop, I will kill you promptly and swiftly of course. But if you want to hex him, feel free in the proper time and place. Plenty of times the temptation has crossed my mind."

Seymour had went to sorting the books that Morven had been going through and looked up in horror as his mother gave full permission to Morven to hex him-he was sure his mother would be at least a bit upset if she actually tried to kill him. Though, he doubted Morven could... or didn't have it in her. Maim or hex, sure, actually murder? Come on, he was obnoxious at times, but Morven was a lot more tolerant of him than some people. Though, Benjamin would have argued it was because he was awesome like that.

Meanwhile, Casey Ryans proceeded to calculate the costs quickly in her head and said the price for the new ones and then added the option of the price of the two used books Seymour had brought up. Casey raised a brow and asked, "So, was it those new books you decided on then, instead?"

I hear singing, I hear singing-
Singing to me, the damned girl!
And to the waxing moon...
I hear the birds singing;
To my beauty, my beauty...
And to the growing night.

SLYTHERINFOURTH YEARBLOOD TRAITOR

Morven seemed taken aback for a few moments; she stared at the woman, glanced back over her shoulder and looked hard at Seymour, then faced the counter again. "I'll take the used ones, thank you," she said slowly, trailing off at what the woman said next. She wasn't even entirely sure if she was joking or not. She'd never met an adult who talked that way. Her father had barely talked to her and her sisters, period, and her professors at school certainly didn't even joke like that. Morven wasn't really opposed to it, just startled. She didn't know mothers occasionally (or frequently) spoke like that about their sons. She didn't know any mothers, period. When she regained her voice, she nodded, unsure of how to reply."I wouldn't dream of murdering him in public, ma'am." She shot Seymour a rather threatening gaze, standing half turned away from the counter as she counted out coins to pay.

What she couldn't figure out was why he was basically giving her the books. She was still paying for them, obviously, but he'd procured the after saying he wouldn't help her. Yes, he'd obviously been joking, but there was no reason for him to do something nice for her, even if he hadn't done it in the most kindly fashion. She'd never done anything like that for him. If it were her, she'd probably have ripped out pages just so he couldn't have them. They weren't really nasty to one another, but they were hardly friends. He barely knew her. She'd been snotty and dismissive of him, besides. Instead of actually retaliating, he'd just pretended to and then done her a favor. Did he think he'd be getting something out of her for this? Well, she wasn't going to act like she owed him anything. She didn't, not really. It was entirely his choice to act so weird.

The dearly beloved daughter,
Is now a dead and buried girl!
Tell me my girl, who has damned you?
Over there on the moor and in the corn...
Take my body, my rings, and my dress-
Under the moon they have burned with me.

Belle was covering the shop for Casey which was hardly a problem for the reliable Hufflepuff. She had thought a long time ago that staying in one place would drive her crazy. As it turned out it was quite the opposite. Belle loved working at Flourish and Blotts. She'd been working there for about a year now and couldn't see herself being anywhere else.

The brunette had just finished with one of the few customers that came through this time of year and was now restocking shelves. With it being the end of the school year they really didn't have that many people coming in and out but it was still fairly eventful. Belle couldn't wait for when her son got home so she could spend some time with him. Hopefully he'd figured out his electives so that she could get his books early before the rush.

Lola had been fairly quiet her first year at Hogwarts. She saw no reason to get overly involved her first year. She thought to take her time to get grounded a little. After all, it was the first time she was living practically exclusively with witches and wizards. It wasn't like her cottage in the New Forest with her Dad and little brother that was situated fairly deep in the New Forest, which was where her mother lived, being a wood nymph. Not that Lola was broadcasting her half-nymph status to anyone (and probably not anytime soon). Lola was well aware that 'half breeds' weren't exactly something people were particularly understanding about-even if the 'creature' was as beautiful as a wood nymph and peaceful (which was more than you could say about Veela). However, she did manage to get to know one or two of her classmates-at least some-and thought to ask to meet up with one of her fellow Ravenclaws.

Selina was nice enough, interesting with her apparent talent at card reading, and was just strange enough Lola didn't constantly feel uncomfortable about herself around the girl. Also, she figured (or hoped) if ever it came up who (or what) her mother was, Selina wouldn't right away shun her or do something awful like try to use it against her. Sure, Lola was a bit paranoid, but people still hated halfbloods or muggleborns, halfbreeds... well that could be even worse.

Lola walked into Flourish and Blotts, amoung the bustle of other students, but she was looking for one in particular. Standing up on her tiptoes to try to see around many of the older students and adults she quickly gave up before climbing a ladder nearby a few steps up and spotting a brunette head waved and called out, "Hey, Selina!"

                                                    Text.

When Lola contacted her to meet up in Diagon Alley, Selina jumped at the opportunity. After returning home to find her family situation in a distasteful state of flux, she was grateful to be away from it, if only for a short bit.

'Home' was a relative term right then, though. The attourney retained by the Farells refused to allow her aunt and uncle to remove any of her things from her parents' old house, so the spare bedroom in their townhouse was exactly as it was when she left for school. They also wanted her to spend the summer in their house in Dublin, away from Mother Grey and Aunt Livinia and Uncle Hugh. After hearing both sides, Selina decided to split the difference, and chose to live in her parents' house; pointing out to the attourney, whom wasn't used to having a twelve year old witch stand up to him, that it was still her home, and the house now belonged to her, and the taxes were paid up and the lights still worked.

It wasn't the best situation, but at least it was quiet there, and she had her books. Not being allowed to cast magic was an annoyance for her, but it was just one more annoyance among the rest in her life. Still, she was able to fend for herself, Mother Grey checked on her, and the Farells brought over things which amounted to 'peace offerings' for their granddaughter.

The best thing about her living situation was when Lugh and CuCuchlainn arrived on her doorstep, much to Hepzibah's consternation. Second best was she could come and go as she pleased, whether it was a trip to the market for the clotted cream for her morning omelet, or a jaunt to Diagon Alley via the Floo Network for a bit of shopping with Lola.

For her outing, Selina wore a long floral print dress, with a pair of low-heeled ankle-length gray boots. The appearance gave the illusion of height she didn't have, a little bit of elegance, and she liked how the skirt would move when she twirled around.

She found Lola to be an interesting person; unlike her, she'd managed to avoid getting into some of the histrionics associated with their classmates, taking her time to find her way in the school. There was also a touch of the exotic about Lola which Selina found intriguing.

Selina arrived a little early, and found the book store was already a busy place, with older students milling about, checking out the newest titles. While she waited, Selina started perusing a book she found on Magical Theory, and she didn't get much past the introduction when she heard her name being called. Looking up, she saw Lola standing on a ladder, and waving to her. Selina smiled, and replied, "Lola!" before heading over to meet up with her friend.

"Selina," Lola said jumping off the ladder, landing nimbly as she greeted her fellow classmate, "I'm sorry I was running a bit late," She added brushing some of her blonde hair out of her brown, almond shaped eyes. "I was just about to floo over when I got tied up with negotiations to try to clear up the all out war my little brother and the garden gnomes were moving into..."

She shook her head, "They agreed to lie down their arms for the moment." How her brother planned on taking on two dozen garden gnomes and win was beyond her, and Lola was still not sure about what the argument was about. Probably Rhett trying to claim he was the 'king of the Forest since he was born from a tree'. Or maybe her brother just needed someone to argue with. Not like the wood nymphs would give him any argument. Lola was just glad she'd be graduated before he started at Hogwarts. Granted, she worried after he spent a few weeks in Hogwarts, the school might need some serious repairs. She was pretty sure she was over-dramatic.

"Anyways..." Lola said with a shrug, "How've you been so far?"
