America made a sound of agreement as she settled in to carve herself some power. "Uruz, huh?" She sounded out the word a few more time out loud as she pictured the symbol and began marking it out. Thankfully it was a simple image for a simple task, nothing that required much artistic thinking or skill.

The first try crumbled in her hand, "Well damn." She cursed softly before reaching for the next. "Guess its not gunna be a cake walk, even if there aren't any mermaids chasing after you."

Solomon looked at the surface of his own stone, drawing his finger over the surface of it in the shape of the symbol they'd been shown. "Somethin' like that." he mumbled as he fished through his stuff for the carving tool to put it to stone.

Small movements, but all together, he could see Judith with her wrench, bent over the hood of a car while he sat next to her, watching her hands move, a gesture he felt himself trying to mimic in memory of a sister far too young to be a second mother to so many younger siblings. But it was nice to think about it.

The stone flickered weakly, but the glow remained after a few attempts to go out, and Solomon held it up.

"Hm. That's....not as bad as I was expecting."

Her mouth formed a small 'o' as she saw Solomon's stones light up. "Well, I guess you may just have talent with this if that's how you start!"

Turning back to her own stones, America tried to find her focus, mind and motions seeking out that quiet place where competence might be found if you persisted long enough. Eventually it began to flow, just the way it did when she tried and tried again with most things.

The first time she saw a bright blue glow shine from one of hers, she crowed out loud. "Now we're cookin with peanut oil!" It wasn't the funnest piece of business, but not awful either. She still had a bunch of failures, but they made the successes all the more sweet.

Her enthusiasm was probably one of her most valuable assets, Solomon decided, watching America for a moment before he looked down to the three stones he had sitting next to him. He wasn't too bad at this, he guessed, but he still stared at the other stones with some concern before he put the tool to their surface.

Every now and then a stone would flicker out, cracking in his hands and he'd allow the pieces to drop at his feet without worrying too much about it. He wasn't trying to be the carver of the universe, holding everything together. That might have been too stressful of a job for him.

But things seemed to be more success than they were fail, slowly setting up stacks of the runes by how their glow was, mostly all lumped together in one big pile that sort-of-glowed, and another that was much smaller but glowed a lot. Those were the important ones, he imagined.

"These things aren't that bad to make when you don't have mermaids in the picture." Solomon said as he counted out a few of the stones to keep to himself. Hey, getting off the island was important to him, okay? Okay.

He definitely had a bigger pile of success than her, but the difference wasn't great enough to truly stick in her craw. "Bleed a lot less, that's for sure. But I still think the diving part was the best." She grinned over at him, "It was an adventure, ya know?" Tossing a stone up and catching it, her grin widened, "Though I don't suppose that'll do much to keep my phone powered, so I can't say I'm unhappy with this bit, either."

Standing up, she rubbed at her posterior with a wince, maybe next time she should bring a cushion or sommat. Gathering up her clothes and finally slipping a shirt on, she continued, "Welp, dunno about you, but I'm about ready for an ice cold wash-up and a tub of Neosporin."

He grinned as he decided on his keep of the litter of stones he'd carved, the rest, mentally, set aside to go into that portal rebuilding shenanigan. Mostly he wanted habitable living again.

Like cold water that wasn't full of salt. That would have been awesome.

"Definitely less labor intensive than carving rocks." he agreed as he traced one of the runes he'd carved, "I mean, it's rock. It doesn't want to be carved, why are they making it be carved." He knew why, but it was really more work than they were probably going to get paid for.

Unlike America, Solomon's shirt wouldn't be coming back on, remaining thrown over his shoulder like a dirty towel. "Can't say I've ever felt the need for a shower more than on a day where I got mobbed by dozens of fishy ladies."

Erruuugghhhghhghghhhh. He'd need a lot more than a shower to clense his mind of fishy-assault for sure.

"Think I need a runic bandage for my pride too."

Snickering, America replied, "Being popular ain't easy on a guy, that's for sure. At least they'll probably stay in the sea for the time being, though. And maybe next week we'll find away to deal with them for real, or just bring another fella and slather him in fish bait as a decoy." She was smiling as she opened the hatch and began to climb down, but it really, really wasn't a joke.

Instead of waiting for America to finish her climb down, Solomon climbed down over the edge until he had gotten as far as he could without letting go.

Letting go resulted in a tuck and roll landing before he popped up to his feet again, much to the chagrin of his knee which throbbed at him in reminder that it existed - it made sure to do that a few dozen times a day.

"Or make him use the mysterious beach soap. I think that right there is what attracts mermaids." Solomon suggested helpfully.

"Oh well, there we go Mr. Fancy pants," America golf clapped at the landing, while Stryker was telling her to be more like that in the back of her mind. All said and done, though, she was pretty glad to have had his company for this particular adventure.

He bowed as she golf clapped him and made sure to do so with a flourish.

In the same vein, while it hadn't been a planned excursion, it had been a fun one (mermaids aside), and she hadn't been bad company to have at all.
