Fortunately (or unfortunately), the outburst from before coupled with his still lingering fatigue from the spar, he had... fallen asleep. Outside his door. While sitting.

Sherry nearly fell asleep. Thinking about life and sadness and broken hearts can only keep one awake for so long. But she didn't cry. She didn't curl up into a little ball and weep herself into slumber. She wouldn't let herself do that.
Nor would Armagnac, but that was another story.
But after nearly dozing off a dozen or so times while sitting up, Sherry decided it might be best if she moved around. So she paced for a few minutes. She wondered what time it was. Surely it was getting late?
She had very little intention of leaving, but checking the hall was something to do. Sherry had a feeling she'd check it several times before she finally gave in and went to sleep.
Opening the door enough to stick her head out of it she saw... Well. It was hard to miss the hunter sleeping against the door. The jerk didn't even get very far. "Jake," she said.

The door opened enough that Jake slumped back, hitting his head against it, effectively waking him up. Groaning, he rubbed his eyes, turning his head to see Sherry, and frowned. "If you like that room so much, then keep it." He got up, dusted himself off and started to walk away.

Really? For all he knew, she was leaving it.
"No," she said, reaching out to grab him arm before she could think better of it. "Dammit, Jake. Come talk to me. Please."

He only looked down at where she was holding onto him, and frowned. "You wanted to leave before, and I let you. Now you want to stay, and I'm letting you do that. But no, you're not satisfied. Just tell me what the hell it is you want and leave."
At least he seemed a little more sane, but still angry and bitter, if not in another sense.

"But I didn't want to leave before. I...I was being stupid and was trying to figure out what was best for you. I messed that up. I'm sorry." She sighed and stepped out of his room. "I want to know what I did that was so wrong. I've never tried to hurt you, and I never want to hurt you. I love you, Jake. Love you, like you... Even after all that just happened, I care."
He was going to protest, but she hugged him anyway. "I want you to tell me how I can prove to you that I'm telling the truth."

Letting out a disgusted groan, he was going to push her away again, but something she said triggered a memory.
"You really don't get it. Think about it. After everything. Everything, and I'm still standing here telling you that I like you." Though he didn't know who it was, the voice sounded familiar, and he only watched as they pleaded with him. He saw the cuts and bruises, saw their tear-stained face. They were broken inside and out, and yet, they still didn't give up. It made him angry inside, furious, and he pulled out his dagger, raising it. And then with one fell swoop, he-
"NO!" He hadn't realized he was clutching his head now, panting. No, that wasn't true. That couldn't be real. He didn't, he hadn't... His gaze fell back on Sherry, not knowing what to do. "... Sherry. Let go."

He'd startled her again, and she was staring at him. The parts of her heart she could still feel were breaking for him. Something wasn't right, and she didn't know how to fix it.
Armagnac snarled a very messy suggestion which Sherry ignored.
Against her better judgement (really, the last little while went against that) Sherry clung a little tighter. "What happens when I let go?"

"You leave." He would have said he'd leave, but, well, this was his room..

She didn't like that answer. "I don't want to," she said, no letting go in the slightest.
She was well aware that they were going in circles again. She didn't care about that anymore.

Jake sighed. "Ok fine. What do you want?"

She didn't let up at all. In fact, she might have been resting her forehead on his shoulder. Only one of them had napped at all this day, after all.
"I want you to sit down with me and tell me why you-- why you got so angry."

"I... I don't know." He squeezed his eyes shut, trying to block out the memory. "I remembered... something, and it made me angry, and then I..." Another sigh. "Why is it that when I want it to work out, you don't, and when I want to just end it, you won't let me?"

Sherry closed her eyes. She figured it was a memory. Then she huffed. "You say that like we've been at this longer than a day."
She shook her head, which was a little difficult with it still pressed against him. "I've never wanted anything but for it to work out." She exhaled, her breath a little shaky. "And you questioned my resolve. I... I had to show you."
Dammit, Jake. She didn't have any more tears to cry.

"Well, according to you...." It felt awkward with her clinging to him while they were standing in the hall, so with some effort, he managed to move himself (and her) back into his room, closing the door behind him. "If we're having this much trouble after only a day, I don't think this will really work out that well in the long run."
