As if the chilled sands and humidity weren't enough, the pair would have had other worries during the night. If awake, one might have heard soft growls coming from the direction of the trees further inland. Glowing eyes flashed once in the moonlight before a shadowy figure slipped away on all fours. Tresspassers...

The next morning, when the two awoke, if they traveled up the beach towards the trees, they would come upon the scene of a grisly, late-night murder.

White feathers and down scattered the sands and scattered scrub brush beneath the shadow of the trees. Nothing more of the body was seen. Taken unawares while sleeping, poor seabird never had a chance.

Wolfs Heart

Sweetie only woke up once through the night, there was a growl that had shaken her from somewhat peaceful slumber. The faun had been groggy and not sure what she'd heard. Mumbling to herself about hearing things, she snuggled back down into the leaves that were acting as a covering. Celestia it was cold on these sands.

Morning broke, dawn lighting the sky with it's glorious colors, gently waking Sweetie from whatever sleep she'd managed to grab a hold of so tightly the night before. The female stretched, and then stopped. There was skin where the hadn't been before. Strange enough, she couldn't feel the skin either. Was it her own? No, no it couldn't be. Her eyes snapped open, looking to see what she was snuggled up to. Shock replaced her confusion as she realized she'd snuggled up to Dysmas in the middle of the night. Oh Celestia he was warm though. After such a chilly night, the warmth was welcome. Even if it was more of a shock than anything that she'd managed to worm her way over to him.

"Dysmas?" She asked, rather tentatively. If he was still resting, she really didn't want to wake him. It wasn't kind. Even if there was a bunch of things to be done while there was still daylight.

At some point during the night, the temperature had changed dramatically and Dysmas had become warmer and had slept like a baby from that point on. He had slept for a long time even through Sweetie calling him. When he finally awoke he had no clue that the snuggling had been the cause for the warmth during the night. He sat up, cleared his eyes. "Sweetie?" he called for her. Even in the jungle, he knew the sun was a little higher in the sky then he would have liked for getting started on their shelter. Whoops.

Sweetie smiled at the sleepy male, glad to see him somewhat coherent. "The one and only." Came her reply. The faun was still curled up to him, enjoying the small bit of warmth their combined body heat offered. Paired with the sun that was beginning to warm the isle with it's light, she was starting to get comfortable again.

"It's time to wake up Sleepy." Her voice was a little sing song. She was well rested and glad for it.

"Hm... yeah..." Dysmas rubbed his eyes again. He noticed the female was sort of curled up with him, and he couldn't help but blush in embarrassment. It wasn't every day that he was that close to another pae, especially a cute female. He looked away, hoping she wouldn't notice the blush he felt heating up his cheeks. Dysmas quickly stood up, he really needed to get to work on this thing. "Alright... we'll keep it simple. If we build it here we don't really need to worry about it holding up against the wind." Or so Dysmas hoped. Dysmas had never built a hut before, but he had grown up in one, so he had some idea of the concept behind it. "I'll set you to gathering some palm fronds, if you're okay with that. Those will make a roof. We need a lot" He hoped there would be enough around to keep her close and light enough to not hurt her. Dysmas, on the other hand, was assigning himself the more difficult task of finding something to hold everything up.

Sweetie was blushing herself, trying not to draw attention to the whole she was curled around him thing. But now that he'd jumped away, the faun could only blush harder.

She righted herself while he spoke, listening to what he was asking of her. "Sounds like a good idea. Not sure if there'll be enough in the immediate area though." Sweetie nodded, looking to the trees above them. They were sadly barren. She would have to go find more of those leaves a bit further into the little grove of trees.

"Are you going to be okay doing... Whatever it is, without me?" She prodded, curious. If he thought he might need help she'd stay there the entire time. No reason to split when she could probably find most of the fronds needed for a roof. Probably.

Dysmas looked up at the barren trees that Sweetie was looking at and murmured thoughtfully. He hadn't anticipated that she might have to go further for some leaves. Dysmas didn't like the idea of it, but if they always stuck together it would take twice as long to get anything done. Dysmas' face saddened at the thought, but he knew it was what had to be done.

"Yeah, I'll be alright, I'm sorry we have to seperate. I'm going to be looking for some larger branches or vines to hold up our hut." Dysmas narrowed his eyes. "Maybe... maybe we should meet back here when the sun is directly overhead. That way if either one of us finds what the other is looking for, we can find eachother." Dysmas took a deep breath, and if she wasn't back there he would go looking for her.

She shrugged. He was going to be looking for something that she would likely find while looking for their roofing materials. So that meant that they might run across me another while searching. It would be interesting to say the least.

"That sounds like a good plan." Sweetie nodded in approval. There was no need to disagree with him unless he wanted or needed help. Since he had just suggested splitting up, that meant he'd be okay alone right?

The faun chewed her lip a bit, wondering which direction they were going to head off towards. There was a nice outcropping of trees off to their current left... Probably over there. "I think I'm going to head in that direction." she nodded towards it.

"Alright," Dysmas pointed in the opposite direction, they'd cover more ground that way. "Just... be careful... okay." Dysmas said genuinely. "And if you see a big log or something... just try to remember where it is and I'll carry it after we meet back up." It had been her that had been afraid of being alone before, but now Dysmas wasn't a big fan of leaving her alone either. "See you soon." He finished as he walked in the direction with one last look at Sweetie over his shoulder.

sweetie didn't particularly want to go alone, but there wasn't much of a choice in the matter. The faun rubbed her forehead, wiggling here hips as she walked off towards the trees she had said she would look through... There had to be something out that direction, the trees were lush there, better than the barren trees where they had made camp.

"Wonder how many it's gonna take to make a good roof..." Sweetie mumbled to herself, trotting up to a decently sized tree. There were a lot of leaves on this one, maybe not enough to make a good roof, but still. Anything was better than nothing.

It was almost past midday when Sweetie remembered that they were supposed to meet up at the campsite again. Oops! Laughing to herself, the faun tried to hurry back as best she could. Doubtless he would be worried she was gone so long.

The direction that Dysmas went had been pretty thick, and almost frightening due to how thick it was. He was thankful that Sweetie had not gone this way because he had been scared of what might be lurking in the forest.

At one point when he had popped out of the forest he had come across the scene of blood and white feathers. His lips moved from side to side, so they weren't alone on this island afterall. It was just a dead bird... from the looks of it... and hopefully whatever killed it was small enough only to eat a bird. Perhaps a larger bird... or something that didn't eat pae. Dysmas took a deep breath and walked back towards where they had slept that night, dragging his haul of vines and leaves back to the place where they were to meet.

He had intended to arrive early and he did, and as the sun began to move to late afternoon his heart beat faster and his mind flashed to the feathers on the beach. He just kept telling himself that whatever had done that was full from eating the bird. Dysmas was ready to set off in the direction that Sweetie had gone when she arrived. "Oh finally..." he sighed.

Sweetie blushed, having taken her time to drag a hollow tree trunk. It wasn't huge, but it wasn't small either. It wasn't really hollow right then if she remembered. She'd found it as she walked back to the campsite and knew she would forget it later. Thinking quickly, the fauny had stuffed it full of the leaves she gathered for the roof and began to haul it.

"I found something useful~" She grinned, leaving it at the edge of the campsite. Her arms and legs were sore from dragging it so far. "Hi, how you doing?" She was still grinning, blush coloring her cheeks when she walked up to him. It had been a rather productive morning for her.

Dysmas' eyes widened when he saw what she was towing. "Wo-wow!" He exclaimed. He had completely underestimated her. Dysmas would have struggled to carry the log, his slender frame was built more for swimming then for hauling things. But she... wow. Dysmas blushed too, embarrassed by his underestimation of her, simply because she was a female. He was equally embarrassed by his rather small haul. "I am alright... much better now that you are here. You... did really good." He hoped that he sounded more impressed.

She exhaled a little loudly, glad to not be dragging that log anymore. She was no Applejack or Big McIntosh, and certainly wasn't up for doing things like that again anytime soon. It was a real strain on her arms and back.

"Thanks." Sweetie blushed a bit more, glancing back at the log. How far had she dragged it? It felt like forever, but it didn't look like that far now that she looked back. "I don't think I'm gonna be able to move it any farther though. That thing is really heavy..." She reached up to weakly rub her shoulder. "How was your find?"

"It seems we traded places..." Dysmas motioned to the vines and leaves he had piled up to their side. He neglected to tell her about his find... he didn't want to scare her. If he had been wiser at the moment he would have covered it up even to prevent her from stumbling on it... he just wanted to protect her. "This looks like a really good start... it might even be enough."

Dysmas looked in the hollow log, as he noticed it was full of even more leaves he nodded his head, with the extra leaves inside, it really did seem they had enough. "Now to just get started..." Dysmas had a rough idea of what he wanted to do with everything in his mind, now to figure out how to make it a reality. "Alright... we should start digging a hole, for the log to go in. We want to go pretty deep so that we get away from this loose sand on top... otherwise there will be no support..." the idea made sense to him.
