The corners of her mouth reluctantly twisted up slightly at Everetts comment. Once Dorien spoke up, Peyton stared dumbly at him.
"Don't they teach that sort of thing in school? Like, How to Avoid Certain Death 101?", she asked, looking quite confused.
If that's not what school is for, then what's the point? Where do you go to find useful information? Clearly, the twins didn't know the answer to the latter. Peyton was quiet for a moment, thinking about how to explain to a couple of bozos how her entire existence worked.
"Okay, uhh, think of your life essence as water in a cup. Some people have bigger glasses so they have more water. Some creatures, like me, have a small hole at the bottom of their cup.", she paused, making sure they understood so far."In order for the leaking cup to…survive, it needs to take water from another glass…and the only way to do that is through a straw.",she continued."Naturally, some glasses can refill themselves if some water goes missing. You get sick, but eventually get better. However, if that straw takes all the water, then you die and the other cup has taken all of your life essence, er, what do you humans call it? Souls?"

A startled beat, then they each broke out in breathy laughter.
"Are you for real?" Everett wondered with amusement.
"I didn't know 'soul sucking b***h' had a literal form," Dorien drawled lazily.
"So it's nothing to do with food, really, you still need that? It's something else entirely."
"I think more like, she's sick, but it doesn't affect her so long as she takes her medication."
"And your medication is d**k?"
Everett's mouth was fighting an incredulous smirk, and his eyes were close to watering, helped by his still, after all, quite intoxicated state. This was just too great.

Peyton blinked, dumbstruck for a moment. Soon her face turned red. Her expression a mixture of rage and shock.
"I'm not ILL, you brain dead turds!", she shrieked, slamming her heels against the front of the couch.
Her hands gripped tightly at her arms, reminding herself to not throw slaps around. She was itching to hit something, or at least storm out of the room. The girl had enough 'quality time' with the boys to last a life time.
"It's the same as needing to eat, sleep, and drink. Just because you don't have to do it, doesn't mean it's wrong."

Both brothers jumped at the completely unexpected outburst, and Everett withdrew from the back of the couch a little, as if to get just enough distance that he could see an attack coming. Provoking others came to them about as easily as breathing, just sort of a natural default mode, so to say they hadn't been trying to offend her was... well, only half accurate. They hadn't been making a point of it, though.
"Woaahh, kiddo," he breathed, voice shaking with quiet laughter, wearing an amused, sardonic frown. "Calm down, jeez, did we strike a nerve or what?"
"Yeah, it's not like we're judging," Dorien reassured her in not the most convincingly caring of tones, his usual idle drawl.
"If we couldn't <********>, we'd probably wither up and die too. What kind of shitty life is that?"

Peyton didn't realize she was loud enough to make them flinch. Her first instinct was to look at Everett, who caught her attention by moving away. The twins half-hearted attempt to calm her down didn't help all that much.
"Oh, I'm sure you two just have people lining up for one whole minute of disappointment.", she growled, voice filled with venom.
Demons weren't inherently sick. They were just different, and they had the right to thrive as anyone else. Ignorance like the brothers had just showcased was the reason half of her family was wiped out and the other half dispersed. It was the reason she was no longer whole.
Peyton squeezed her arms once again, teeth clenched tightly together and forced her gaze back to the floor.

They weren't picking up on the seriousness of her anger, as entertained and amused as always by such drama. They were enjoying themselves at her expense, and her insult didn't strike any nerves.
"Are you kidding?" Everett wondered incredulously, voice warm with amusement. "Look at us. What do you think?"
"Lining up is actually pretty accurate," Dorien drawled, tone that of one almost beyond the point of arrogance, but just taking the fact of the matter for granted, at this point. "You don't have any idea who we are, do you?"
"We're rich, pretty and famous," Everett explained smugly, swaying playfully to tilt his head down so as to try and meet her lowered gaze, frowning dark blue eyes boring intensely, sardonically into hers and a cocky, feral smirk twisting those full lips. "Who cares about getting them off; we've got women lining up just for a chance to suck our cocks."
"Do you know how many girls would let us do, literally whatever we wanted to them? Some of them are sicker than us. You should see our fan-mail."

"Not famous enough, apparently. I've never heard of either of you before.", she replied dully.
Their egos were distracting her from her anger, but she was still far from calm. She was just at a hot simmer now. Without their money, fans, and each other, they were just useless little boogers, ready to be picked down to the bone from the real world. The thought gave her some comfort.
Peyton didn't argue. She didn't have anything else to say on the matter and didn't want to stroke their egos unintentionally. No, the girl was quite through with the conversation and didn't care to help its survival. Instead, she heaved out another sigh and slumped down in the couch. Yelling took a lot out of her. This day took a lot out of her. Her eyes were half-lidded as she continued to slide down.
"Oh my godddd, I don't carrrre.", she whined in an attempt to get them to stop bragging.

Everett tsked, swinging his head to the side away from her, a few strands tossed free from his swept bangs.
"She doesn't appreciate us," Dorien mourned with a gorgeous pout, then started sliding down slowly beside her. Being considerably taller, he had to sink much more than she to arrive at the same level, long legs stretched out before him, his hands clasped one over the other upon his stomach. Once he'd settled himself comfortably, he rolled his head to the side to look at her, something coy and playful in those hooded dark blue eyes. He stretched one of his hands half-way towards her, and wiggled his long fingers once in invitation, spread apart.

Well, it worked. Her eyes rolled at the twins self-pity, arms crossed stubbornly. Peyton perked up once Dorien started moving. She couldn't tell if he was making fun of her or bored…or both. Whatever the reason was, she didn't like it. He offered his hand, and the girl looked at him as if he was handing her rotting food.
"Well, I'm not gonna hold it if that's what you want.", she said, suspicious of his intentions.

Dorien pouted instantly, those deep-set, brooding blue eyes going somber and intent, his dark brows frowning dolefully. He just stared into her eyes, motionless, for several long seconds--
and then, only wiggled his fingers once more.
Everett, meanwhile, had lost interest, and was stretching tightly, squeezing a careless groan out of his chest before collapsing on his side. A cushion had fallen off when he'd sat up earlier, and now, cheek smushed to the edge of the couch seat, he hung an arm down to lazily retrieve it, idly trying to decide whether it was worth the effort to get up and get another drink.

Peyton stiffened a bit at the intensity of the eye contact. It wasn't hard to believe that he was a good actor, let alone the center of attention to adoring fans. She felt tempted to grab his hand just to get him to stop looking at her like that.
Instead, Peyton looked away and sat up abruptly, putting her hands by her side to lift herself up.
"I got one last question. What did you guys buy when you left the hotel?", she asked, thinking about getting up soon.

Dorien's hand slumped back, and his expression, put on for her benefit alone, dropped in disappointment, shifting to something more sullen instead. He disengaged disinterestedly, attention lost. It was Everett who had to reply, perking up in interest. He shifted himself up onto his elbow with a smirk, and lifted out a long leg, plopping it over her lap, and overlapping a little into his brother's, too.
"Want to see?" he teased, eyes glinting with mischief.

Peyton glanced at Dorien, who was now sulking. Not exactly heartbroken, but noticeably upset. It almost made her feel bad. Perhaps it wasn't a trick and the guy honestly just wanted to hold hands. That didn't seem like him though. As Everett used her as a foot rest once more, it became her latest problem, and her minor guilt was pushed out of her mind. He, on the other hand, looked happy.
