Chert Sanders

Chert protested loudly as she revealed the book. His eyes flinched away from the large, bold picture of the rodent on the cover as if it physically burned his retinas, and he was glad when she carelessly tossed it onto the floor. It felt less like he'd been caught with a non-fiction book than a magazine with a centerfold featuring Miss December, but Antony's calm demeanor allayed his shame somewhat. Instead of immediately retreating back into his shell, he rubbed his rough palms over his face and growled quietly. "I met Zach again. It sounded like the changes had screwed with his head," he said. "I guess I... didn't want to be caught by surprise."

Even the indirect admission of his fate tasted bitter, but he tried to keep any trace of self-pity out of his voice. Antony had already suffered through one change and moved on without clinging to dramatics; he should be able to deny Moreau the pleasure of visible discomfort, as well.

Antony nodded, moving her left hand to carefully pull his hands away from his face, listening to what he had to say quietly until he finished. "Zach nearly pissed his pants when he first met me as a human, he doesn't exactly have a strong personality or will, and you have one..." She trailed off, shifting onto her back carefully so that her tails didn't get twisted up before patting the shoulder/chest area closest to him.

"I know you're strong, but I make a pretty good pillow..." She gave him a hopeful glance as she continued to play with his hair, rubbing his scalp with her fingerpads. "Besides, honestly... The only real mental changes with me were the occasional urge to flee up a tree and a larger appetite for seeds and nuts."

Pausing, the tattooed woman cracked a sort of smile, "I wouldn't give Moreau the pleasure of fretting about it before it happens because you're as stubborn as a mule and only a pot could really relate to a kettle it seems..." She shrugged, watching him a moment before looking up at the ceiling.

A small, lop-sided grin crept across Chert's face. Strong personality? "That's just a nice way of saying I'm a stubborn a**," he said wryly, moving with her to accomodate her change in position. There was no doubt in his mind that she'd made an exceedingly comfortable pillow, but for the snuggling-impaired the thought was just a bit daunting. Instead, he reached up to gently grab one of her wrists, bringing it down to the level of his chest. His calloused thumbs made slow circles across the surface of her palm as he stared at her hand and listened to what she said. For someone so used to roughly shoving people away, understanding was a slightly troubling thing to recieve from someone else, and he felt as if he lacked the neccessary tools to deal with it. But Antony didn't seem the type to voice empty words of reassurance, so he paused in simply brushing them aside.

"Us kitchenware's got to stick together," he said, returning her smile faintly. A school of unvoiced thoughts swam behind his turquoise eyes, unable to find a vocal outlet, so he simply patted her hand awkwardly before releasing it and joined her in staring at the ceiling. It didn't seem to offer many answers.

Antony blinked at Chert when he administered the affectionate motion, mood brightening almost immediately. Despite how small the palm rubbing was to her, the fact that it was him, who wasn't one to be physically comforting to anyone, it was quite a gesture. While he was still rubbing her hand the squirrel woman decided that more contact was needed, so she stopped his head massage and turned herself so she was perpendicular to his hips. Without so much as asking him her head was soon situated on his stomach, looking up at him.

Her tails were much more pleased at her new position, less cramped and free to move as they wished. Bending her knees, she let the soles of her feet press against the wall the bed was pinned so carefully against.

She grinned lightly when he mentioned the kitchenware and then patted her hand, and she peered up at him with a growing smirk. "How much would you hate me if I called you Kettle?" Her now free hand lazily traced shapes with her index finger along his upper abs and chest, and after a while, Antony's eyes began to follow her 'artwork.'

Chert's eyebrows gave a faint twitch, but he managed to keep his expression mostly neutral. After all, indignation was what had originally secured him a rock as a second namesake- the more you resisted, the funnier it was. Only maybe she truly was fond of the nickname, in which case failure to protest might end up with similar results, when it was all said and done. Antony's mischevious expression suggested one scenario over the other, though, so he said noncommittally, "It's not much stranger than Chert."

With a chuckle, she tilted her head down and playfully nipped at the skin there, possibly just to see how he'd react. She could care less about the nickname, finding how he attempted to make it seem like she didn't care, but she raised her eyebrow at his statement. "Do you hate your name? Brian's not a bad name." Her fingertip continued to trace along where his muscles were defined. Antony wasn't one to let an oppertunity to enjoy the male form slip through her fingers.

The n** caused Chert to expel his breath in a startled snort, the muscles in his abdomen tensing briefly. Weren't squirrels supposed to be herbivores? "Having someone slap a name on a birth certificate doesn't make it yours," he said. A ghost of his customary frown darkened his brow as he watched the path her finger traced.

She saw his look and decided not to delve any more on that topic, and instead, she changed the topic, "You should be shirtless around me more often." The corner of her mouth quirked upwards and she stole a glance up to catch his reaction before returning her attention to his chest.

Antony's deft switch of subject matter erased the stormy expression and replaced it with a blink of surprise. He shifted slightly and shrugged his shoulders. "Maybe if you promise to return the favor." The corners of his mouth quirked upwards in humor. Insults were easy to deal with. Compliments? Not so much. But somewhere in the back of his head, his ego puffed up its chest and preened its feathers cheerfully.

"What? A good, respectable woman like myself?" She put her hand to her chest in mock offense before grinning and reaching behind her as if she were going to tug the swimsuit knot free. Her movements were slow as she chewed on her lip ring. It was hard to tell if she were kidding or not, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "Is that a request?" Antony chortled low in her throat, sitting up somewhat and cocking her head to the side.

"I- uh-" Chert began, but the words scattered in all directions like marbles poured from a bag, and suddenly he couldn't quite remember out how to string them together into a sentence. There probably weren't many snappy retorts with which to counter, anyway; Antony's pretty much topped the bill.

Both eyebrows raised as her smirk grew wider, pushing herself up into a sitting position. "Sit up," she murmured, an idea coming to her at the last moment, shifting onto her knees as she waited for him to move. This would be fun.

Chert stared at her suspiciously for a few seconds before he complied. One hand rubbed at the back of his neck uncertainly as he tried without success to divine what she was up to from her expression.

She simply offered him a cheeky grin before she crawled directly behind him, letting her hands first run along the skin there before she started to work the knots skillfully out of his muscles. After a bit, one hand went behind her and untied her top, carefully pulling it off and dropping it next to her. It was then she worked her hands around to his stomach, careful not to tickle him as her lips began to press along his spine, moving upwards to the back of his neck. All the while her chest went from lightly trailing to fully pressed against his upper back, her lips lazily working on where his shoulder met his neck.

Antony hugged him from behind, rubbing his stomach as she rested her chin on his shoulder, smug look trickling over her features, "Or did you want to actually see them?"

His muscles complained at first, every bit as stubborn as the man they were attached to. A back as full of knots as a crazed boy scout's attempt at a merit badge was the price one payed for being perpetually defensive, but Antony's clever fingers gradually coaxed the stiff muscles into submission and Chert's suspicion was put to rest. A quiet rush of air escaped his body as he felt his shoulders relax for the first time in... well, a while. In the next moment, though, his spine reflexively straightened when he felt her hands slide around to his stomach and her lips brush against his back. He couldn't supress a shudder of pleasure as she slowly worked her way upwards, the soft surface of her skin pressing against his own. The sensation was unexpected, but not unwelcome. Distantly, he heard Antony pose a question. "That's fine," he breathed.
