It looked as if every word Harrison used to describe what had happened was a punch in the gut. She waited at the door Rep was taken into and fidgeted uncomfortably.

There wasn't much of anything Jordan could do, but seeing for himself that Rep was alive was a relief. He found a chair and put his head in his hands while Harrison took Rep inside to be attended to.
"What happened?" he asked finally, when Harrison had returned and explained the basics. He looked over to Rin, keeping his expression neutral. She'd said it was her fault, but he had no idea what she meant by that.

"She said she'd explain," Harrison said, folding his hands and looking over at Rin grimly.

Rin looked over at the both of them. A clear look of horror frozen on her face. She felt sick. Explaining this was going to be like explaining in intricate detail why the sky was blue. She had to try though.
"It... I.. ... I just. I wanted to talk to him. He didn't want to talk... I still tried explaining that... like... ... he thought I used him. I just wanted him to know I didn't... that like... I just... me and Melvin are like him and you guys. He didn't want to listen. He grabbed me and tried to toss me out and I just.. there's no excuse for it at all I know. But I just.. I summoned Byr. We fought... I didn't WANT to hurt him or any of your stuff. I tried SO hard not to. I just. I thought I was just going to knock sense into him. Instead I just... I knocked it out of him. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I ******** everything all up. And on top of it all I made a mess. He's going to hate me even more when he sees it.. I just.. I really don't know what to do anymore." Rin looked absolutely exhausted after the explanation. Eyes burning but so tired.

As he listened, Jordan's expression went from neutral to a flat blankness that almost covered cold anger. It would be hypocritical to judge Rin's actions too harshly, all things considered; but right now, with Rep unconscious in the infirmary, his blood staining the floor in their room, a place that should be safe if any place was, he wasn't going to be capable of calm, fair judgment.
Evenly, quietly, he said, "You'd better go."

Harrison ordered the story in his head.
"Let me ask first. You're an intermediate. And you hit him over and over, unarmed, until his shield broke. Why did Melvin show up?"

Rin didn't want to go anyway. She had to make sure he was okay. So even if questions were hard to answer now that the dust was settled, she was almost glad for them now.
"He's strong even without a weapon. If not for Byr's healing, he would have broken me with fists alone." Rin made that point not to defend herself but merely to point out that Rep is not weak. She was sure Rep'd only play up that concept for playful nookie cuddles from the guys... not any actual ineptitude on his part. Then the thought of that made her wilt slightly. If he's okay.
At the real question though, Rin didn't skip a beat, "Rep didn't want anything messed up. Your things are important to him like... like order is.. for me. I promised I wouldn't... I didn't want to hurt him... s**t... did it set in? Please don't let him see it. I'll get it cleaned, okay?.. or replace it, I don't know. I didn't get a look."

Jordan leaned on his elbows and looked down at the floor, trying to get a handle on the anger and upset. Why didn't you leave? Would he have expected anyone else to leave in the situation? He'd been struggling with the idea that maybe Rep needed to have the consequences of his actions shoved in his face rather than letting him chew over it and draw the wrong conclusions; maybe that was what Rin had been doing.
He was still angry, more than rationally angry. Their room was supposed to be safe, a place where they could temporarily put aside the rest of the upsetting crap that happened. Maybe that was unreasonable. He wanted it to be that way anyway, even if the rest of the world wasn't obliged to do what he wanted it to.

"Rep's not gonna care about a stain in the carpet," Harrison said flatly. "But you might if you were planning on moving the body. That would also account for you being careful not to break any furniture. And for you attacking him in a place that didn't have any cameras, instead of taking it to the training field."
Harrison didn't lose eye contact.
"I'm going to be up front. I'm going to turn in a report. You can turn in one if you want to. Whether this was attempted murder or something else, you used your weapon in the dorms, and that'll be a strike in your records."
His body language eased up. He opened his hands.
"Now, in case this was an honest mistake. We don't fight in our room. If we have a problem with each other, that's not where we settle it. So, if that's it, all I've got to say is stay the ******** out of our room."
He clasped them together again.
"In case it wasn't, if you were aiming to kill him because you're scared, because you want to guarantee your own safety, let me tell you. You're not going to get what you want out of it. I will hunt you the ******** down. I'm patient. I don't sleep. I don't say s**t lightly. Rep's not going to be your problem."
Harrison paused.
"I'm not doing anything over what you did today," he clarified, "but it's not smart to plan a repeat." He softened some, looking at Jordan, who was struggling. What he would do to somebody and what Jordan would do to somebody were horses of a different color.
He put a hand on Jordan's arm.
