"I see. If you're certain, I can at least take you near." Though he wasn't going to. He wasn't going to take this mare into the heart of Ruin's territory. No, he'd take her to the edges of it, somewhere that she'd need his assistance to get out of. After all, if he kept talking, maybe she'd focus on following his voice and not bother to pay attention to the direction they were going. "Their territory is this way," he said, turning and starting to walk towards the edges of his and Ruin's territory.

“Thank you.” Following the sound of the voice she cringed. She disliked this feeling more nerve wracked by the second. It might be a long trip and she was not looking forward to it. Carefully she picked her way behind him. She might be blind and headed into a trap but she could handle it. That’s what she kept telling herself over and over. “Might I learn the name of who I’m following?” She kept her tone light hoping that it wasn’t a monster of the south so bad that even she knew of him.

"I don't like giving my name out to strangers... but you can call me Nan." It was a nickname he used often when he played a more friendly persona. It wasn't very often, but it had its uses. Like now. "Please don't take it personally. There are simply too many that specialize in interrogation and torture to give my name out freely." It was true; Demoni was one of them. He just left out that little tidbit.
After a bit of walking, he finally asked, "If you don't mind me asking... what business do you have with a stallion like Demoni? I've never seen you around here before..." Or anyone that looked like her, frankly. It was odd...

Nan? It was a strangely cute name she smiled under her mask. “No offence taken. I understand. I’m surprised you gave me any name at all to be honest.” It was interesting how the stallion referred to Demoni as ‘lord’ before and not now. Closer than she would have thought. Perhaps this was one of Demoni’s underlings? “No, I’ve never been here before, nore are you likely to see others like me for a time yet. As for my reason that depends on what information you’re willing to give me back. I’m sure you more of Demoni that you let on. Still we can keep politely chatting and heading nowhere if you’d like.” With that she stopped walking in her tracks and stood there quite stubbornly. Her chain jingled as she shifted her weight expecting an attack. Demoni was a demon right? They would smell of smoke. This must be on of his underlings for certain or maybe even one of his sons. That thought worried her.

Demoni smirked. Oh? She got a little wiser. Even so... there were few that could outmaneuver him in tactics besides his own kin. He doubted that this young mare was one of the others. "That's true. I do know more about Demoni," he admitted, still playing the persona of Nan. "Almost everyone in this area is an underling of Lord Demoni or Ruin. Even though they're mates, they have their separate forces. Ruin deals with power and Demoni deals with tactics. Everyone else hopes they don't step in their paths." He shrugged, even though he knew she probably couldn't see him. "I'm sure you smell it. Smoke, sulfur, fire--scents that linger because of the number of demons and flame-wielders that are in the area." He turned to face her. "But we aren't heading nowhere. The demon lords and their families both congregate in the center of their territory; we'll be walking for some time before we get close to your destination." He shuffled a bit, knowing the sound would suggest he was nervous. "Ruin's trainees also practice there, so I won't be taking you the last leg. One word from Ruin and they would burn me to a crisp for bringing an outsider there."

“Good to know I’m not just dealing with a stranger to the area who only sort of knows the right way.” She started to move forward again keeping in mind all Nan said. That’s what those scents were. “So I’m headed into what’s potentially my death. Lovely and very much expected.” She sighed and decided to give him something for the information he gave her. “And thank you. What you said only confirms that Demoni is who I want to speak with. Tactics means knowledge and information. Including that of who I seek. There information for information. Now when you leave me and report to whoever you need to at least you’ll have a valid reason to have me followed or killed.” Ok so she was feeling a bit cynical at the moment but given what she was walking into who could blame here. A family of demons? That just sounded oh so promising. “So then to keep this wonderful banter going before I come to my senses and run away just what is it like to live in this herd? Is it fend for one’s self or are the problems of even members seen as a threat to the herd?” It would be interesting if demons cared for their families. Kind of funny too if she stopped and thought about it.

Demoni listened to all she said very carefully. Even the smallest tidbit might be useful later on. "Who you seek...?" Well, this was interesting. Looking to him for information? That was new. He chuckled at her suggestion that he'd report her. "Getting paranoid thoughts already? Maybe you should turn around. I'm not objected to taking you back to the border," he offered lightly. To her last comments, he took a minute to reply. "Well, it's hard to call it a herd... Hmm... I guess you could call Lord Demoni, Ruin, and their blood kin a herd, but the rest of us are really just soldiers." He went quiet. "It's hard to tell what it's like within that circle, but outside of it, unless you're a specialist... you aren't really cared about. No family bonds or anything like that, I mean. Those who are useful will be fed. Those who aren't generally get charred. If you're useful and get attacked, Ruin will sometimes go out himself to snuff out those who dare attack his minion... but that's mostly for reputation's sake." And because Ruin liked destroying things.

“Do you know too many azrein come seeking Demoni who aren’t just a bit paranoid?” It was a valid question still she kept moving forward. She was not turning back. She had been down here long enough and wasn’t about to turn and run like a coward. This herd wasn’t a herd but a family using and leaving the useless behind. With her weak sight she would be one of the useless ones here wouldn’t she? This made her annoyed with only made her more determined to get this done even if she had to beat the information out of this ‘lord’ Demoni. “Good to know. Soldier Nan. That has a strange sound to it.” Now set in her path she marched forward determinedly following Nan. She shook her head a few times her chain jingling. It was so hot down here. Shaking her head again she stopped. “Nan.” She paused for a moment uncomfortable. “Nevermind.” She kept going with a sigh. Having a mask on to protect herself was better than not. Even though she felt like she was being stifled underneath of it. Nan could probably tell what was bugging her but she wasn’t going to say it. Most would assume she was scared underneath and she often walked with her eyes closed even if the mask was off he’d assume she was blind if he had any sense. She kept carefully picking her path behind Nan.

"I don't know many Azrein that come seeking Demoni," the stallion replied honestly. "He's not the most widely-known name, but those who do know it generally stay away. Especially if his name is mentioned in junction with Ruin's." Most heard the name and knew to stay away. He chuckled at her little nickname for him. It was cute. Adorable. No, no, he couldn't start thinking that way. It would get him in trouble.
Demoni turned at her speaking his name. "Hm?" He was quiet for a moment, then spoke. "Do you need help with your mask? I hear metal can get very hot in the sun..."

“Well I’m all kinds of stupid this month.” She huffed until he made his offer. The meeting wouldn’t happen if she couldn’t breathe. She made a small grumbling noise in the back of her throat for a moment shifting her weight before giving a short nod. “Yes. ..Please. If you can just lift it can dangle from the chain. I don’t want to loose it.” She moved toward Nan’s voice and paused when she thought she was close and tilted her head submissively waiting for him to take the mask off. If he attacked now she would be seriously hurt, but she couldn’t keep going with it on.

Oh, that was so cute. Stubbornly submitting out of necessity, but clearly not happy with it. And he was sure that as soon as he completed the requested task, her head would shoot right back up. "Of course," Demoni replied rather warmly. "I understand." Even with sight, losing things in a desert was very, very simple. Finding them again? Very, very difficult. He carefully grasped the edge of the mask in his teeth and slowly removed it from the mare's face. It would've been so easy to fight her there, but she intrigued him. Besides... he didn't get to be "Nan" very often. He was having fun. Once he'd removed the mask, he lowered it so that it didn't suddenly fall and jerk the chain that kept it around the mare's neck. "There we are," he said when he was done, moving back. "Better?"

Pulling up her head as soon as she could she could she wondered if he was surprised her face wasn’t scarred or marred at all. She knew that by a number of sighted azrein standards she would be called ‘pretty’ but that didn’t matter to her. Still his breathing never changed so he might not of noticed. She kept her eyes closed and heard him move back. “Yes.” She turned her head down that would be a ‘glance’ if her eyes were open. “T-Thank you Nan. It’s nice to be able to breathe again.” She took a deep breath and faced Nan again. “Alrgiht I’m ready. Though I think perhaps Nan you really don’t belong here in the herd if you’re what’s considered expendable. You’re…. too nice just to be a soldier. What is it you do for the demon family that you’re here with?”

What a lovely face. Though the closed eyes... blind, perhaps? Or maybe her eyes had a hard time adjusting to the sunlight. Demoni smiled at the cute thank you. "You're welcome..." He trailed off, chuckling in realization. "You never gave me a name to call you." Then he answered the mare's inquiry. "I'm a trainer. I generally work with new recruits. Teaching new tacticians the basic formations and new warriors how to arrange themselves in those formations, mostly." He shrugged, even though she probably couldn't see it still. "You could say my job's in the middle of the pack. I'm not a foot soldier, but I'm not a ranking officer either." Technically true. Demoni loved telling partial truths. It meant that those who could detect lies didn't know he was twisting the truth to his own ends. It made things so much fun!
He shuffled and sounded embarrassed as he addressed the compliment the mare had given him. "T-The politeness just comes with the job... The trainees get enough scolding from Ruin. They get a bit snappy if anyone else tries to order them around the same way. And since I deal with Azrein of most ranks, it's always better to be more polite to a lower-ranking soldier than to be rude to a superior..." A little happier, he added, "But I can't help feeling glad you think I'm nice. Kindness is generally thought to be a weakness here, but even so..."

“I would certainly hope I wouldn’t let it slip after being so careful for so long. I’m not certain if you’ll believe me since you’re used to having a psudeo name passed about, but I’m called Adaeze.” She didn’t fear giving her name out because in truth no one would ever have any reason to find her again in the north and even if they looked she really wasn’t all that social so finding other’s who knew her was rather difficult. She listened to him ramble on. Tactics. That was Demoni’s domain not Ruins…. So Nan was closer to Demoni than she even suspected. Ugh Nan just annoyed her right now it was like he was dancing around how close he was to them. First soilder next a trainer, what next ‘Lord’ Demoni himself? Still the fact he tried to classify himself did help a bit. Ada didn’t really fully understand it but that was just her luck really. She grinned at his embarrassment, that she understood only too well. “Kindness is not a weakness. It takes a lot not yell at someone you know is screwing up and have a way to fix it but the other party is just too D*** stubborn to listen.” She moved forward again still carefully picking out her route with her eyes closed. The weight of her newly freed mask bouncing off her legs was annoying but manageable. It had been so long with her mask on that it feel wrong to have it off. The sulfer smell was stronger and made her feel a bit dizzy. “Any advice for someone stupid enough to walk into a place even a trainer doesn’t want to go? Well besides ‘don’t go’ that one isn’t really on my options list.”

"I believe you." Demoni smiled, genuinely--which brought instant alarms from the back of his mind. "For some reason, I feel very peaceful around you. That's why..." Panic seized Demoni. This couldn't be happening. He couldn't move his body. Nan... the persona of Nan had broken off from his own consciousness and had taken control from him? That wasn't acceptable! "Gugh!" Demoni's body jerked as the two personalities fought for control, hooves skidding in the sand to keep it upright. Nan... somehow, Nan was winning. Lord Demoni was being suppressed. How was it possible? He didn't know; all he knew was that he was being forced into the darkness reserved for the masks he made when manipulating others. Eventually, his resolve broke in the face of Nan's and Demoni's persona went to sleep.
Gasping and dripping sweat, Nan tried to straighten himself. It was odd, being able to move the body. He wasn't used to it... He stumbled a bit before getting the hang of it. "The only advice I can give... is stay close. You will... not be bothered as long as you're with me."
