What would they find up there? Surely the Voice wouldn't make it so easy and simply be standing there. That being said, she questioned whether the Voice actually had a physical form. If this was some kind of strange dream world, then what if the Voice was outside of this realm?

Okay, enough of those kinds of thoughts. She wouldn't know until she got up there, and there was really no point in thinking about it now. If the Voice wasn't actually up there when she reached the top, then she would just have to deal with it and find another way.

There it was again: the Voice. Louder this time, an indication that she was probably going the right way and getting closer. And yet, something about the Voice seemed...different. Not as powerful or as compelling it usually sounded.

This time, the Voice's tone...was that desperation she heard? Could it be that it was afraid? Before, perhaps she would have felt a little bit of sympathy, but not anymore.
The offer was...not a very tempting one. Or, truth to be told, a small part of her did feel that familiar tug of desire, but she was able to resist. She was here to do something, she had a goal, and joining with the Voice again was not one of them.

Her legs continued to burn from the effort it took to climb all of these stairs, but she didn't slow her pace. She was close, so close, she could feel it. With any luck, some of the others would already be up top. Perhaps they were even facing the Voice right now?
