Once again, Madison swung at the thing dragging her, but the ******** was getting sly and ducking; the fact that the forward momentum was overbalancing her was really screwing up her strikes.
The great grey shape loomed over her, and Madison looked up at it for the first time, really focusing... and the bottom dropped out of her stomach. That looked familiar. Horribly familiar. "HEY, ******** YOU!" she shrieked at the thing wearing... wearing Julie's skin... god, she felt sick to her stomach.
As the tendrils of insanity pulled her brother closer, Ying shouted, "No- NO!" Jing couldn't leave her. Not again. He wasn't allowed- she would never allow it! This was why she hated battles. Things always went wrong in the chaos. She much preferred her sewing. She knew how that worked, it was clockwork really. It never changed, except with fashion trends, and those were hardly life-threatening.
She darted a few feet forward, but Jing's call cut her off. At first she was infuriated. Stay back? How could she stay back?
Then thought came. She looked to the grey figure, realizing that if she got any closer, she would only drag herself and her brother to a quick death. Why oh why did he have to be the smarter sibling?
"Be careful!" was all she could hopelessly shout. She prayed to their horsemen ancestors that he would be okay. Anything but Jing.
She summoned her bow with a grimace, taking aim at the elves. The least she could do was thin the crowd.
He was being dragged towards something again. And Jordan- Jordan- whatever it was spat him out on something besides a ratty carpet.
Snow.
It was cold. And he was still being pulled- he rolled over bitterly, knifing B0nez into the hard ice and beginning to force himself to his feet. Harrison found himself looking at a very welcome pair of boots.
"Rep?" he said, almost not able to believe it, "Sh-s**t man. I thought I'd never ******** find you- WHAT DID I SAY BEFORE. GET OFF," he tried to shake a demon off his ankle.
The sounds of battle were still thick around him, but everything was wrong. He needed to get up before somebody decided to use him as a doormat.
Tseng attempted to plant his foot right through the face of the grey entity. Instead, he almost stumbled over.

The snow started to fall on the battle and for a minute it was almost festive. He was waiting for a game of football to break out in the trenches like some ******** world war two dad's army s**t. Then the dread redoubled and someone was coming towards them.
The figure slowly loomed out of the fog, pulling together, materialising until he could make out that it was female, that it held a tray with three crowns upon it. He couldn't take his eyes off the crowns at first, it was like his eyes refused to obey him. But when he did he saw it was Julie. He'd seen her die, he'd seen her in the fog, by this time, he could barely remember what she'd been like in life, leading them a merry chase through the sewers.
This wasn't her. This was someone else.
But s**t was going down as the elves spawned around them, grabbing and pawing at them.
And in the chaos and confusion there was one stable reliable thing. Harrison had somehow - even through the fog and whatever other bullshit fate had going here - ended up at his side. It was like the fog read his mind. He reached out to touch him, brushing his arm, just to make sure he was real, that this wasn't some other cruel trick like in the haunted house.
"Ace." it was a greeting and a reassurance that, yes he was real.
He beamed almost proudly. "I didn't get hurt!" Which was saying something, given his track record most of the time while they were separated.

Jay scowled at the elf clinging to her feet as it dragged her forward. She tried to kick it away, but instead it kept pulling her toward the vortex. The bluejay began to twitter angrily before it kicked the creature with even more force.
Ugh. She almost admired the persistence of the little creature. Almost. Not really.
"Ok!" Ofie's plan seemed like a good one. Little critters, one big critter...Sherry knew where this was going. There was going to be lots of pain down the road. But maybe, just maybe they could defeat this before that happened. Unlikely, but she could hope.
So she did. And then she kicked the elf thing again.

"Gegegegeeeeeeee" The elf on his leg just kept laughing, as if teasing for his fruitless action. AJ felt he was still being dragged, more and more close to the vortex where the boss ghoul was waiting.
"Don't you dare to laugh at me! No one can" AJ ground his teeth in anger. The laughter had recalled bad memories of him, those he wanted to throw away but haunted him. Even the second head felt his anger and got into a ready-to-attack position. "Sssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!"

Shun could see people being dragged further in by their own personal elves. He didn't want to know what would happen if he reached the center. AJ nearby seemed to be struggling a fair amount with his own. Narrowing his eye at the pest that had latched itself onto his leg, he went on and stabbed into its chest once before slashing across its tiny throat with the other blade. The attack caused it to waver, but it still hung on tight.
"Kono yarou..." he murmured, "Get the ******** off of me already."

The elves worried him. Sparrow did not know where they had come from, but they were vastly unpleasant - as was the image of the swirling vortex beneath the feet of the apparition in front of him. He did not recognize her, but he didn't have to to know that whoever she was, it was still a very bad sign.
He swung the scythe around, trailing shadows.

The elf on his leg moved to the left when he tried to catch it and punch it. The movement of it was so quick that AJ couldn't even touch it. It was still grabbing on his leg, the feeling was so disgusting and he wanted to get rid of it immediately. "GET AWAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!" He suddenly yelled.

There was no room for debate, the boss had to go down now and the redhead lunged at it without fear of being pulled in. She could always jump back, it wasn't like she was unable to move away, and she pounded into the monster like there was no tomorrow.
She was not going to be sucked in a void, thank you very much.

Sophie watched Xiu turn from the caring and happy baku she'd grown to love like a sister into.. into something that scared her more than Alex did when he was in his frenzy. Xiu was taking a life. Not because she had to. No, to Sophie, it seemed she chose to and more than that, she liked it. The ghoul took a faltering step back, eyes wide in horror at everything she was witnessing. Friends and family turning into murderous.. monsters. And Xiu.. Something wasn't right there.. Sophie noted the pendant, the glowing and the uneasy feeling she got when her eyes cast it even the smallest of glances. Something wasn't right.
Sophie turned to Shun and opened her mouth to say something when she heard Alex call to her. Her brother's voice had her head turning, looking frantically for the voice. He pulled her to him and she pressed her face into his chest, eyes closing as she choked out a pathetic sob. The scent of blood was strong on his clothing and it filled her senses, making her feel sick with grief at what he had become to shed that blood. What she had watched him do. A chill went down the ghoul's spine and Sophie's head turned to watch the fog and the figure that came with it. She stepped to Alex's side, clutching his arm as tight as she possibly could. It didn't seem to end, did it? The suffering was always there.
"I'm scared," she whispered, more to herself than to anyone else. It felt good to admit it. She didn't have to pretend anymore.
