Be thankful I haven't been been hurt yet?! Sky was fuming as soon as the words left Lothar's mouth. Flying wasn't brain surgery! "The year my father started flying he said someone had put a spell on one of the brooms and one of the first years had been killed~" Sky thought in a mocking voice, glowering after Lothar. More than anything, Sky was pissed off that Lothar reprimanded her. Look at what was going on around her! Weren't these failures something impressive? In the multitude of books she read before coming to Hogwarts, the only problem she had every heard with flying were nothing to the extent of this. Children getting maimed by brooms?! This was unheard of.

Sky anger was anything by soothed as she watched Lothar perform some heroic act, saving a Hufflepuff girl from her 'untimely doom.' Her only solace was that the teacher was going to reprimand him--however, that didn't even happen! Face clenched with rage, Sky watched the professor with a dour expression as she explained the next step of flying and quickly pulled her broom upwards as soon as she finished talking.

Let's get to this already, She thought, pulling back further and clenching her broom forward.

Tristan bit down upon her lip. Fly around? Really?! First day's lesson and they already allowed to fly?!

Tristan gave a worried whimper of a groan. At least they weren't to go above 10 Feet, but still... Her knuckles were already bone white from her terrified grip. The lesson so far had yet to be easy or done well enough to make her feel any better about the next task at hand...

She swallowed hard and closed her eyes, taking a deep breath and readied herself.

"Better now than never...!" she reminded herself and very slightly leaned forward on her broom.

Sky lifted up easily and found herself at a nice height. Her broom--as worn out and shotty as it was--moved perfectly with her, floating up when she commanded it and shifting to her ever movement. Flying isn't so hard... She thought, proud of herself, as she moved closer to the front of the line where the teacher hovered.

I don't get why everyone's having any trouble with this, she huffed--knowing that more than anything, her irritation with Lothar was speaking. But Sky didn't feel like calming down--she was so vexed with that arrogant boy!

Lysander couldn't help but smile at the boy, who's face colored so well and who's quiet declarations of caring made him all the more adorable, if not incorrect. Lysander liked moving his head, he liked the way that his hair moved around his face, and the softness of his curls when they brushed at his cheeks, and he liked the way he was able to catch more out of the corners of his eye, without making it seem like he was actually watching people. It didn't hurt him at all, because he didn't jerk his head around like some crazy metal fan. But the thought that this pink faced boy seemed to care for someone he didn't know, even when his thoughts were so completely irrationally founded, was cute. Were Hufflepuffs always like this? Was it one of their traits? His smile turned a bit indulgent, and he felt the need to pat the poor boy on his head.

Lysander leaned backwards slightly, and his broom inched its way upwards when it should have been moving backwards. He wasn't exactly sure why the boy wouldn't be able to preform in Quidditch, if he so desired, as he seemed quite at home hovering there.

"Well," He stated, watching the boy motion to the brooms. "Without having one of my own, I'd have to use them anyway. So I still wouldn't get on the team. Not that I'm complaining, of course." Because he wasn't complaining. Just stating a fact. He was unlikely to get a broom before next year, unless he underestimated his parents, but he doubted he did. His mother was pregnant, and all excess funds would most likely go towards the baby. Lysander tightened his grip on the broom when his thoughts drifted to his soon to be baby brother. He was really excited for it.

His thoughts drifted off a bit, dreaming of being the absolute perfect brother, but he snapped himself out of it a few minutes later. "Oh." He blinked, mouth slightly open in surprise. What? He frowned for a second, before he realized the boy was still fixated on his eye. The corner of his mouth twitched for a moment, before he let go and smirked. "No, it won't heal. Despite what everyone may think, magic can't heal everything." He smiled, watching the boy's attention catch on another boy who was hanging upside down from his broom. It was strange how he was up so high, but didn't really seem it, with his head the same level. He could barely stop his smile from winding at the fact that the little Hufflepuff was worrying about things beyond his control again. He thought for a second that he would try helping the boy as well, but with his broom being as uncooperative as it was, it was unlikely he'd be able to do anything to help, except perhaps soften the fall if the upside-down Hufflepuff actually fell.

He looked over at the professor when she gave the go-ahead for everyone to move onto the next step. "Really?" He snorted, looking around at the many, many students who were having mistakes and problems and accidents. Was she not going to help any of them? Lysander was pretty much stuck hovering at two feet, and he was probably the best of all the accidents. The upside-down Hufflepuff, that kid stuck really high in the air, the girl with the runaway broom, did she not care that they were having trouble with this step? "Some teacher you are." He grumbled, glaring at her as best he could. Why, he could be a much better teacher, baring his complete lack of experience. Why, he didn't even know how to get his broom to move in the direction he wanted it too. Leaning backwards took him up, leaning forwards took him to the left, it was complete nonsense! He wasn't sure he would manage any better when he actually tried to fly around like everyone else, but for now he was certain he was terrible.

Liam willed his broom forward and was gleeful when the broom moved at a pretty fast pace straight for the professor. He laughed as he held onto the broom and moved slightly to the left, his broom zigged to the left, and then back to the right when he shifted to the opposite side.

This was actually quite fun!

Then his eyes narrowed and he focused in on the Professor, his attention once more on her. He didn't want to hurt her, but scaring her would be brilliant!
He was planning on moving to the left at the last minute and completely avoiding her, though he knew the moment he zoomed past her she'd probably go after him. Oh well..one had to be a little reckless every now and then.

He was so focused on the professor that he didn't even notice the girl below him maneuvering her broom in front of the professor. He didn't actually see her until she was three feet in front of the professor and Liam realized he wasn't going to be able to stop in time.

It was strange, right when he slammed into the girl at top speed he thought he heard Maer speaking in his head. Oh no! Liam don't!
He hit the girl right in the middle of her backside and felt himself falling head over heels flipping over and over until he hit the ground with a loud and resounding THUD! He laid there, face first in the grass, his face and arm throbbing with intense pain. He closed his eyes and tried to keep from moaning from the pain. The last thought he had before blacking out was that the girl had some really pretty blue hair.

Sky didn't have time to move herself out of the way--by the time she caught sight of something fast in her periferal vision, it was too late. The Hufflepuff boy's broom rammed into her own, creating an unpleasant 'crunch' noise as the brooms broke to splinters. Milliseconds later, there was another sound--this time a crack as Sky felt something hard hitting her, knocking her clean off her broom and tumbling out of the sky.

She hit the ground with an unpleasant thud--leaving her temporarily breathless as the wind was knocked clean out of her.

It took a few seconds to register. As Sky regained her breath, pushing herself into a sitting position, she waited in shock as the feeling came back to her body.

It started with a tingle and then a distinct and sharp pain in her arm. Then, shock turned into anger. "What is wrong with you!?" she shrieked, trying to keep from crying. Her rage was to no avail though--the boy was clean out.

Still quit upset, Sky pushed herself to her feet--nursing her probably broken arm--and held it close to her as she peeked over at the Hufflepuff, jaw clenched and face pale from the pain. "Is he al-alright?" Sky spat out, trying to force her own pain down (though she had little success). As much as she wanted to berate that stupid boy--he was knocked out. Great.

Lothar closed his eyes for a moment, getting a feel for the broom he was riding. It surprised him that the school’s test brooms were made of a very light wood, a wood that would splinter really easily. You’d think they’d want to invest in ones that would be sturdy and hard to break. He shook his head in annoyance. It figured they’d tell you to be careful and then give you a broom that was so easily breakable. They were hypocrites, the whole lot of them. Lothar sighed, and willed his flimsy broom forward.

The broom hummed slightly as it moved at a medium pace, and swerved in an S figure as he leaned first to the right and then to the left. Once he had practiced that, he flew the broom up higher to the allowed height to see how everyone else was doing. Sure he could have been practicing more, but he was more curious to how Sky and his other fellow Ravenclaws were doing. Then he’d have an idea of just who might be on the Quidditch team in a couple of years. He fully intended on being on the team, and hoped that the others would be skilled enough to join him.

This was when he noticed the Hufflepuff boy from earlier that had had some trouble with getting his broom to get up. He remembered the kid calling for help and the Professor completely ignoring him..but now the kid looked rather mad. Almost even..maniacal at the moment. He frowned and started to fly over to the boy when the Hufflepuff suddenly dove down towards the other riders below.

LOthar’s eyes widened and he was surprised when the boy seemingly missed several other kids who were flying and kept flying determinedly in one direction. Lothar frowned, and peered down trying to figure out what the kid’s target was. His eyes widened once more when he realized the kid was going to dive bomb the professor!

“Professor Drake Look out!” Lothar cried as loudly as he could, but knew that the poor professor would probably get hit before she ever heard him. Only he was wrong about that.

In the last few seconds, before the kid could collide with the Professor, Sky had maneuvered her broom so she was right in between the kid and his target. “Oh no!” Lothar cried, remembering his words from earlier. “Be thankful you've not been hurt yet.” His words ringing through his head, Lothar gritted his teeth and willed his broom to follow after the other kid.

He knew he wouldn’t get there in time to stop the collision but he could at least try to help. He came to a stop and watched, cringing as the two brooms hit into one another splintering into a thousand pieces and causing both Sky and the other boy to fly off their brooms and tumble to the ground below. Lothar flew his broom down and hopped off running over to the two injured kids, concern showing on his face.

The shriek that emerged from Sky’s mouth had his ears ringing and Lothar came up short and had to stick his fingers in his ears until she stopped. Man..did this girl have a set of lungs! By the way her arm was hanging Lothar figured that her arm had to have been broken in the fall. Ouch..that had to hurt.

“Are you okay Sky?” Lothar asked as he came to look her over. When he noticed the other boy was face down and not moving he winced. It looked like the other boy had knocked himself out. Well..that was kind of deserved for what he had intended to do. Still he could have broken his neck or worse by the way he had landed. He hoped that wasn’t the case.

Lothar knew better than to try and move the other kid and waited for the professor to come check the kid out. “I kind of doubt it Sky, “ He said. “The way he fell could have caused him to break his neck or worse.”

Louvenia squeaked as her broom wobbled back and forth as it rose higher into the air. She tried to will it to fly, but it didn't seem to want to do what she wanted. Frustrated she glared at the broom picking at a splinter that was coming off of the handle.

The broom suddenly lurched forward, causing her to squeal in alarm as it zoomed around the yard in circles. This was not what she had intended at all! She clenched the broom between her legs and held on for dear life as the broom began to go faster and faster.

"Please.." She moaned through her clenched teeth, "Slow..down!" The broom suddenly came to an abrupt halt, causing her to lurch forward over the broom. Thankfully her tight grip on the handle kept her from falling off. "Man..why can't you cooperate with me?" She griped, and glanced around to see how the others were fairing with their brooms.

She had turned around just in time to see the horrible accident involving Sky and the hufflepuff boy that was her room mates' brother. She winced at the thud he made when he fell to the ground. "Ouch that had to hurt." She was a bit annoyed when she noticed her cousin Lothar had flown down to check on Sky.

She sighed heavily and shook her head. "Why does he always do this?" She muttered in annoyance.

Maer willed the broom to go up and was pleasantly surprised when her broom instantly followed her wishes and soared through the air taking her up to five then seven then ten feet high. She got to where Liam was just as his broom zoomed away leaving her in his dust. “Drat!” She muttered and glared at his back. She could try to catch him, but at the pace he was flying that wouldn’t be happening. “You stupid crazy boy!” she yelled after him and willed her broom to follow after him.

Her broom dove after him, causing her wild hair to fly out behind her. “Whoa!” She exclaimed, feeling the rush and exhilaration from her quick descent. “This is amazing!” She laughed gleefully.

Her glee was short lived however when she saw her brother collide with a Ravenclaw girl who had unknowingly gotten between Liam and the Professor. She cringed, and willed her broom to slow down realizing that she herself could have hit into another student. The resulting mid air accident proceeded as though it were in slow motion. There were splinters flying every which way, the two students being thrown head over heels and falling towards the ground with massive speed, and a resounding thud that seemed to echo across the whole field.

“LIAM!” Maer shrieked, as she felt a sharp stab of pain go through her head and left arm. Gods..why did that sixth sense have to pick up right when one of her brothers had an accident? She maneuvered her broom to the ground shakily, the phantom pain still radiating throughout her face and left arm. She dismounted and ran over to her brother, placing a hand on his back gently.

“Liam, can you hear me? Liam wake up!” She said frantically.

Shortly after the Professor finished talking, she heard someone call her name. Looking up, she saw Alvesleben on his broom--and some Hufflepuff coming down far too quickly at her. With the speed of any practiced quidditch player, she pulled out of the way--her eyes narrowed at Linwood, watching him stay on course. That is, until... "Blackbriar!" The Professor attempted to warn, whipping out her broom in order to stop the boy--but it was too late. They had already collided.

Professor Drake's heart sank as she watched the brooms snap and the kids go flying. Within seconds, she was off her broom and racing towards the two kids. She sounds alive, Professor Drake observed, glancing at the shrieking Sky. The other boy... however, wasn't moving.

"Back away, Linwood," Professor Drake advised, kneeling down near Liam. "Linwood, can you hear me?" She inquired, not expecting much of a response. "The other Linwood--go get Doctor Belov!" Professor barked, knowing that Maergrethe would probably be the swiftest to arrive at the wing.

Once that was done, the Professor looked up at the other injured party. "Alvesleben, escort Blackbriar to the infirmary."

Of course Lothar's here, Sky noticed bitterly--hoping that he had just... missed that entire encounter. Instead of responding to his question, she just clenched her jaw and watched the Professor move over to the idiot who hit her--Linwood, was it? Sky glowered--"He better be alright," She fumed--boy, she had a mouthful for him...

As she watched the Professor tell Maer to go get Doctor Belov, Sky rubbed the tears out of her eyes with one of her hands. It bloody hurts, She thought, trying not to sniffle. Stupid boy! Sky's brows furrowed together and she kept her jaw tight, trying her best to ignore the throbbing in her arm.

About time. The Professor finally remembered her but what she said caused a harder frown to appear on Sky's face. As soon as the teacher turned away, Sky whipped her head towards Lothar. "You don't need to come," she curtly said before turning on her heels and storming towards the infirmary, cradling her injured arm.

Cecilia was rather focused on what the Professor was saying--though it really wasn't anything new this time either. Sitting sidesaddle, Cecilia quietly watched as Professor Drake told them no higher than ten feet in the air. Could these brooms even take that? Cecilia couldn't help but wonder, tilting her head to the side.

Regardless of this, Cecilia willed the broom forward and crossed her fingers. Please work, mister broom!

Maer held back a sob, as the professor asked her to back away and moved back so the Professor could better examine her brother. What had Liam been thinking? Why the hell had he tried to go after the professor?

Maergrethe bit her bottom lip as she looked down on her brother. What was going to happen to him once he got better? What if he never got better?
That thought just made her hurt all over. She wrapped her arms around herself as a few tears trickled down her face.

It would never be the same if he were to die.
Her head snapped up when the Professor told her to go get the Doctor. She turned and ran as fast as her legs could carry her to the Hospital wing. Her feet pounded up the stone steps and into the hallway that led to the Doctor's office. Her feet flew and she could barely feel them touch the marble floor. She skidded the last couple of feet and nearly slammed into the Doctor's office door.

She banged on it loudly calling, "Doctor Belov come quick! Hurry!" She screamed, her voice echoing in the empty hallway.

The door flew open a second later revealing a very old white haired man with a horrible frown on his face.
He opened his mouth to demand what she wanted when she interrupted him.
"My brother collided with another student and fell face first into the ground. He won't wake up! Professor Drake said to come get you!" Maer replied urgently. "So grab your bag and come with me!"

The old doctor glowered at her for a moment and then turned to grab his bag and closed his door, locked it and slowly shuffled out as Maer turned to lead him to where Liam was. Maer figured he wasn't happy with how rude she had been.

Maer was a bit annoyed that the doctor was so slow. She rather wished that he moved a bit faster. What if he got there too late to help her brother?

Doctor Belov hurried to the flying grounds, not in the least surprised to hear that someone was injured. Merlin's Beard... this happens every year, he thought, glowering. What happened to Tuula's speech about this year being injury-free. The memory made him snort. This is what he got for working with a bunch of useless kids.

Before he arrived, he saw another girl walking towards the infirmary. "Blackbriar, wait near my office," He barked, continuing to the grounds. When he arrived, it was easy to spot Professor Drake's blonde hair. "Some new record, Tuula," He commented with a snort, pulling out his broom before kneeling down near the blonde boy.

"Tsk." He muttered, gently examining Liam. "We have a few broken bones here--nothing a few spells can't fix..." Doctor Belov started with the most obvious injury--the bleeding nose. "Episkey," He commanded, listening for nose break to snap back into place. With another wave of his wand, Liam's ribs were set back in place. "Good thing he's already out cold, I hate crybabies..." Doctor Belov muttered, waving his wand one last time to down the swelling on the concussion. "He's coming with me, Tuula... and try not to break anyone else," His eyes narrowed at her before transfiguring a nearby stump into a stretcher to carry Linwood on . "Up we go," The doctor swished his wand and Liam was pulled up on the stretcher. Feeling the nasty look Tuula was giving him, Doctor Belov turned around, "My old bones aren't what they used to be--though you're welcome to carry this for me," he snapped, pushing Liam from the grounds.

Despite the fact that her knuckles were whiter than they've ever been, Tristan managed to gently sail across the area with some ease. She exhaled finally, only just now realizing that she had been holding her breath all this time.

It was here that she realized all the commotion around her. Her thoughts had been so set on making sure that she didn't screw up the lesson that she had managed to completely ignore the things happening around her. She blinked and slowed her broom, sliding off the handle and silently praising the feel of solid ground beneath her feet.

"Is everything alright?" she asked Louvenia - a girl she knew somewhat due to the fact that they shared a room - almost bewildered at the sight in front of her.
