NaniNani073 Lol. My friend's got a tote bag that says: Dear Author, Stop messing with our lives! Sincerely, You characters. Makes me laugh every time I see it. Especially since I'm sure half my characters would hate me with a passion. What kinda fiction do you write? Haha, that is quite funny. xD And, yeah, considering that one of the key points of fiction is often putting characters through hell, most characters probably would despise their creators. Or they'd be atheists and believe that authors don't exist. ninja I tend to write stuff that gets filed under supernatural something-or-other. Like thrillers or dramas or horror or--more rarely--romance. There's generally lots of vampires or faeries or demons or angels or gods or whatever the heck else I feel like writing about at the moment, haha. xD For my main project (a series I'm writing with my sister), it's basically a whole bunch of paranormal elements thrown into one pot with a human main character to tie it all together. It's basically about the Christian (or certain Christian sects, anyway) apocalypse from the point of view of the antichrist. Anyways, what kind of fiction do you write? c:

It's basically about the Christian (or certain Christian sects, anyway) apocalypse from the point of view of the antichrist. Anyways, what kind of fiction do you write? c: I usually write fantasy type stuff that is super-natural something or other. I've got three main projects going on right now. The first one is the one I'm writing by myself. It's a novel about two lovers stuck in a reincarnation cycle because they tangled the threads of fate up when they were first reincarnated and so have to keep living new lives that are almost repeats of their prior ones until they fix the mess they've caused. She's a mage and has the whole special mcspecialsen thing going on. He's a normal human and the normal humans and the mages don't really have much to do with each other because they tolerate but don't like each other and there's a whole power-struggle drama centered around her because of who she's fallen for, but also because mages aren't allowed to fall in love because reproducing causes them to lose their magic. The actually story picks up in their thirteenth life which is the one where everything changes and is also the most complicated situation, because the time between this and their last lives is shorter and since mages are long-lived people she new in her last life are still alive in this one (just way older). The second thing I'm working on is a conglomeration me and my best guy friend came up with. It started as a roleplay, but then it got good and one day we're going to clean it up and novelize it. It basically centers around several pairs of charcters in this one particular city that is one of those cities that everybody passes through at some point. There's also a group of characters in a city-kingdom in the deep north. These characters all have separate lives and stories, but unbeknownst to them their stories are all incredibly interconnected, so things that they do affect people they don't even know in odd ways. It's pretty interesting. Definitely fantasy, although we drew from some quirky legends as well, and it's a world where our mythical beings are all very very real, but people are aware of this and just sort of recognize it. The pairs of characters are also fairly interesting. And finally the third main project is between one of my friends and me. We're writing a dystopian trilogy about a world where the in the name of having the "perfect" life cities function in a fifties-esque manner despite the hyper advanced technology and anyone who is considered abnormal (this could be anything from minor allergies to a genetic alliment) are weeded out of the society. Babies are scanned for abnormalities at birth and the abnormals are sent away to the machine (unless parents opt to keep them, but there are a ton of restrictions and rules on this, so most don't). The machine is like a moving factory city, but the people there are told that they are there because they have an issue breathing normal air like what is on "the outside." The machine prizes creativity and intelligence rather than perfection. So the first book is about a kid inside the machine. The second is about an abnormal whose parents kept her. And the third is both stories retold from the perspective of government officials and kind of ties together all the little loose ends. I write some poetry sometimes though. Right now I'm working on a poem series from the perspective of a jedi in training (one a made up). The series focuses on the challenges of being padawan and on canon characters as she would see them. It's a quirky series, but I'm having fun with it. sorry I babbled so much. I get like that about my writing. XD

NaniNani073 I know right? I have that issue all the time. I also seem to be the last poster in a lot of threads so I get the feeling that I'm killing them. That combined with my usual social issues leaves me lurking mostly - but I am making an effort here! And don't worry if it's off topic. We''ve been off topic a few times in here. It's cool. smile So on another off-beat note - I like your avvie. I'm sure you're not killing the threads. Perhaps they were already dead and your posts couldn't revive them... But I do know the feeling nevertheless. D: Also, thanks! Good to know some people like this avatar - I seem to be stuck with it. xD So, to try to reduce the off-topicness, what is the current topic of the thread anyway or is there one at all?

NaniNani073 I don't believe in coincidence. Okay that's half true. Some things really are just a freaky little co-ink-a-dink. But I think most of what we think is coincidence is one of the Gods trying to tell us something. That said I would think Ganesh is trying to get your attention.... So would you would you classify yourself as Hindu at this point in time or as something else? I don't really call myself a Hindu. I call myself more of an "eastern explorer" just because there is so much of India's culture wrapped up in the Hindu label I think it would be slightly confusing to others. I'm glad I've finally acknowledged Ganesh, though. I've been learning a lot, and finally feel "at home" in a spiritual sense, yknow?

NaniNani073 *Interesting stuff about stories cut for space. xD* sorry I babbled so much. I get like that about my writing. XD Oh, don't worry about it! I really enjoyed reading your ideas. They sound awesome. When you get published, let me know--I'll totally buy myself a copy. ^_^ The third one sounds particularly intriguing to me. Each viewpoint sounds like it would make a fascinating story. I really like dystopians (if they're done right--and based on your premise, it sounds like you're doing it right) because I like that they force you to think about the society in which we live. I don't think I could ever write a dystopian myself, though. Or any kind of high fantasy or hardcore sci-fi. World building isn't my thing. I tend to just alter bits and pieces of our own world but basically keep everything the same and go from there.

Good to know some people like this avatar - I seem to be stuck with it. xD So, to try to reduce the off-topicness, what is the current topic of the thread anyway or is there one at all? Well...The general overarching topic is sort of a really loose religious discussion. But me and haunting heaven have also digressed into a literary discussion as we're both writers...so the answer is both yes and no I guess. XD I guess we can either talk about what you belive or...you could pick something totally random. Vertigo_Kiwi I don't really call myself a Hindu. I call myself more of an "eastern explorer" just because there is so much of India's culture wrapped up in the Hindu label I think it would be slightly confusing to others. Just a sense of homeyness. I'm happy for you. smile haunting heaven Oh, don't worry about it! I really enjoyed reading your ideas. They sound awesome. I tend to just alter bits and pieces of our own world but basically keep everything the same and go from there. I adore world-building. Probably more than most writers do. I have stacks of notebooks of sketches and such having to do with my worlds. It's funny because my co-writer for that third idea adores how detailed our world is, but at the same time he's wanting to jump in and start writing like crazy and I'm still examining the fine points of a functional fictional society. It's pretty funny. I'm so quirky when I write, before stuff even gets into the notebooks, it's on sticky notes. Like my entire novel started out as sticky notes on my closet door. I find it's easier to write when stuff can move...lol I've got stickies everywhere now that I'm working on three big projects though. And I mean everywhere. It's good those things are cheep. And sure if I get anything published I will let you (And the whole guild for that matter) know all about it. smile Now hopefully I'll be finishing something into a publishable state in the near future. To me that's fun, but trying to figure out how a totalitarian government works, or a society that is very different from societies with which I'm familiar function... I get bored. xD Sticky notes? That's really interesting. Does that ever get confusing, though? Like, do you ever lose them? Or are you one of those scary organized people who put people like me to shame. xDCool, cool. c: If you ever need someone to bounce ideas off of or to help with critique/editing, I'd be glad to lend a hand.

I'm not actually that freakily organized. Really. But I have my system and it works for me. Like I can't write well otherwise because I feel like my ideas are all just kind of stuck up there. I don't always come up with stuff chronologically, so the sticky notes help because I can arrange them chronologically even if I don't write them that way. I guess the only part that gets confusing is the fact that there's more than one project and I don't color code my sticky notes. So I actually have to read them to figure out where they go. And I'm sure I've lost one at some point, but the one's I get stick real well, so I usually don't lose any. It's a good system for me. 3nodding And if need a writing buddy to edit or bounce ideas off of - I'd be glad to help you as well. And on that note I'm going to friend you. biggrin

I consider myself to be agnostic. First and foremost I believe in following where logic leads. So far it has not led me to any particular religion, and I've been given no reason to believe in any particular deity. I do believe in the power of humanity however. We can all figure out what is right and what is wrong by seeing the consequences of our actions, therefore none of us should need a religion to tell us what to do. Of course everyones view of logic is different depending on their education, so I can truly only speak for myself. It is not my resposibility to control anyone but myself.
I do, however, have a particular fondness for the buddhist religion. Buddhists tend to view their own knowledge as limited, and recognize that there is much to be learned outside their own religion. I try to view the world the same way, and as such I respect others views and opinions.

Well, thank you--I would appreciate that, actually. c: And thanks for the invite. whee Perhaps we can swap stuff at some point. :3 What's your preferred genre for reading?

NaniNani073 This isn't a question of my religion, I'm pagan and proud. But things are look kind of...deadish around here and since I just met a wiccan friend in a similar thread over in another guild I thought I'd post one over here too. Maybe meet somebody new...or make conversation or something. So my question is are there any other pagans lurking about? And if you're not pagan - what are you? Maybe we can be friends? 3nodding I believe that the universe has a creator I however do not claim to know who or what he is so I am not quite sure what that makes me xd but yes I love making new friends smile

kandymom13 *Knock knock * Anybody still here? I'm still here! XD I just got back from a tiny island in the Carribean and the internet there was expensive and spotty as all get out. So I just wasn't around the thread like I wanted to be. But nice to see people still in here! Welcome welcome. biggrin Victoria Whitechapel I believe that the universe has a creator I however do not claim to know who or what he is so I am not quite sure what that makes me xd but yes I love making new friends smile I'm not sure what that makes you either. XD But Hi new friend. Is Victoria Whitechapel your real name or just something awesomely old school namey that you came up with? haunting heaven It's an interesting system, and I'm glad it works for you. c: And that's a good point about not writing chronologically--I don't either, and now I'm halfway wondering if sticky notes (or something else that I can move around, like maybe notebook paper in a binder) might work for me. xD Right now I mostly write longhand in notebooks anyway, so a binder wouldn't be a big change. A binder might work for you. Binder's irritate me because I don't like to take the paper out to write on it, but the giant rings get in the way when I try to write. I'm more of a sticky notes that eventually become stories in notebooks kind of gal. And you're welcome. Thanks for accepting the invite. I'd love to swap stuff with you at some point. biggrin And I'll read almost anything - even if ultimately it's not my particular cup of tea. For instance I'm not a huge fan of twilight, but I read it before deciding I didn't like it. And now I'm turning it into a nice little found poetry series so... But as far as my favorites - I really like classics. I like Sherlock Holmes and alot of Jane Austen. The Counte of Monte Cristo is a favorite - I also like the Princess Bride, which is (in my opinion) debatably a classic. I read a lot of philosophy books and fairytales - like the old ones. Brother's Grimm and stuff from around the world. There's a good deal of fantasy chilling on my shelf too. Some Sci-fi. Lord of the Rings and StarWars are both favorites. Really my favorite stuff though is either something with a really complex world that feel like it's alive on it's own, or stuff that is unique or a different take on something. Stuff that challenges how I look at something. I love retellings of fairytales - especially from badguy's perspectives. What's your favorite genre? deaths_risen I don't personally believe in religion at all. I know people who are very religious and I know other who are not at all. I do enjoy learning about other's beliefs as long as they respect my ideas and my beliefs. I respect that. Nice to meet you. 3nodding iiTetshinji-Kun Strong Pokemon... Weak Pokemon... That is only the selfish perception of people... I'm Christian and proud of it. Truly skilled Trainers should try to win... With the Pokemon they love best. First of all I'd like to say that I really like your little Pokemon quote. Those are still one of my favorite game series. Secondly glad your proud of your religion. People should be proud to be what they are. It's nice to meet you. Krego-sama I consider myself to be agnostic. First and foremost I believe in following where logic leads. I think more often people need to step back and realize that there's stuff to be learning from other people...I think that's why I like learning about religion - even when their beliefs contradict my own. Good to meet you. smile
