If there was one thing the ghoul could be glad about, it was that the weather in the desert was less windy that day. Though on the other hand, there was the heat. Edel arrived to notice that the crater they had deposited yesterday's finds in had been partially filled with sand, no doubt due to the winds that carried them into the depression as they blew past. The ghoul looked down into the half-covered sand pit below, wondering if they should be looking for the ingredients they had brought back yesterday. Some of the others were digging through in search of them ... yielding nothing.

Edel shifted awkwardly in her spot, not moving to check if her items were missing too. They probably were ... and there was nothing she could do about that. Sighing, she turned around to look out for Dharu, expecting her to be in a pile of clothing again.

She wasn't.

The ghoul arched her eyebrows in surprise as the horsewoman made her entrance, noticing that she was leading a sled that followed close behind. It appeared that their ingredients had been collected for safe-keeping after all, so there was no need to worry about not being able to complete the lesson. She would have followed up with a greeting, except that she had been too stunned by ... Dharu's display.

Still blushing furiously, the ghoul received the new ingredients that were shoved into her hands with a blank stare on her face. One of them was clearly a beak of some desert fowl of sorts, while the other item she received was a clump of .... hair. Edel instinctively looked around to see if she could spot where these had been plucked from, laying her eyes upon the little blobby creatures that had followed Dharu along and making her conclusion quickly.

Relax. The ghoul tried to tell herself. The ingredients gathered from yesterday didn't look too edible or appealing either, so who knows.

Still, she didn't want to think about where those hairs had been plucked from.

Unsure of what to do next, the ghoul simply followed the crowd in putting her items with the rest of the ingredients in the shelf allocated to her and waited patiently for the next instructions. She was having a little trouble trying to remind herself that this was indeed, a cooking class. But thinking back on the meals she had seen the horsemen of Famine have been having so far ... she wasn't feeling too optimistic.

At most, she could just go hungry.

The second day of class. Draven had arrived hoping to start actually making something today. The desert was quiet, and he liked the idea of less sand flying around, possibly getting into his dish. So, it seemed like today might be a good one.

When their instructor finally arrived, Draven was a bit sad to learn that today they would not be messing with the ingredients from the day before. Though...he was curious about the ingredients she was passing out. A couple of them looked rather interesting.

He anxiously awaited his turn, wondering what he might get. As it turned out, he was given some hair off the eyebrows of the creatures the instructor brought, and a scorpion stinger. "Wow," he breathed. They were certainly interesting.

The raven mocker was secretly glad to not be cooking with a beak.

Reiko walked into the classroom, if it could be called such. It was so neat to have class outside like this! Though she couldn't help but wonder if, like the Death class, this would turn out to be far more than just ordinary cooking. Ah well, such thoughts were for later.

She was a bit surprised by the teacher's sudden entrance, and by her rather dramatic manner. However, she couldn't help but smile, even when she was given...oh Jack, were those eyebrow hairs from the creatures Dhara had brought with her? Was she going to have to cook eyebrow hairs? ...She didn't think too hard about it, nor about the fact that her other ingredient appeared to be bird beaks.

Instead of thinking about it, she placed the ingredients on her shelf with the ones from yesterday, and then picked up a cookie, biting into it thoughtfully. It was...actually rather tasty, though she decided not to ponder what went into it. She would only end up alarming herself.

Mitzi strolled into the crater and then looked around, frowning. Where was there teacher? More importantly, where was the cave with their ingredients from the first day?!

Her hand, which had been fine up until then, started to throb a bit as she thought how she'd injured it. The idea that the effort had been wasted... the ghoul was not okay with that. She ran over to where it was, or at least where she thought it had been, and started digging. But she couldn't seem to make any progress before the sand would just fill back in her hole. She sat back, distinctly upset; she didn't particularly care about the exact things she had found, but she did not want to have to go hunting for things again.

Just as she was about to start trying to dig again, the horsewoman showed up. Since it looked like class was about to start, Mitzi stood up and walked over, brushing herself off as much as she could - this sand got everywhere, she was never going to get it all out - and then gave a huge sigh of relief as she saw the cart with their ingredients from the first day. They were safe, she didn't have to go back out and fight more salamanders, or try picking more sharp spines. And then she took another look at the horsewoman, and almost did a double-take. Could that really be the same teacher as the day before?

She barely got her hands out in time to catch the further ingredients Dharu provided, and looked with some curiosity at what she was given. Some kind of hair and... bug stingers? How were these food items? Mitzi had no clue, but looking around, the other options weren't any more food-like, so she just shrugged. She did handle the stinger a bit, almost cutting herself (again) before deciding maybe she had better just put everything away for now.

The ghoul went over to the cart and found her shelf, smiling a bit to see that her ingredients from the previous day were definitely there, safe and sound. She added the two new items, then looked around for the others she knew, a little curious what they had gotten.

Amphi blinked as they were welcomed into the crater once more, it filled over night...

She looked for the horsewoman for awhile before blinking as she appeared again...out of no where...and in a different outfit. My....

She listened to the task before putting her hands together again. More ingredients today it was. She would do her best.

After a visit to the desert, she noticed the two scorpions at war with each other. Once they both killed each other through a fitful war of stingers, Amphi carefully peeled said stingers and took them back to her little shelf.

And then debated.

"Does anyone want to trade?"

JD knew one thing, as he gave the much more immodest and rather attractive looking horsewoman a long, measuring gaze.

He was not going to touch one of those cookies.

Glancing over the ingredients, he moaned. Sand?! EYEBROW. HAIR?? He gagged a little, and mimed choking. How could anyone eat this stuff? The cookies smelt deceptively delicious, but he knew better than to try them now. Wrinkling his nose, he checked the other options.

....Huh. He picked up a bird beak delicately, inspecting it between his fingers. He got the oddest urge to put the things over his lips and run around flapping his arms, but just barely resisted. It seemed like Famine clan was all about eating the leftover scraps that non even hah-yenas would touch. After some more glaring and general malcontent, he also nabbed a scorpion tail.

...Maybe he could feed this stuff to Auri. Now THAT made him finally smile.

Although many students seemed perturbed by the lack of ingredients, Jove wasn't bothered as he entered the class... area, for day two of classes. He wasn't sure he wanted to know how his rat fared overnight.

But when the instructor entered the scene looking like a completely different person, the pup's ears perked up. Not because of the radical transformation, but the cookies behind. He couldn't have cared less if his ingredients were safe and sound. He hadn't had any spookies in the longest time...

Gratefully accepting the pair of items he had been given, the pup also helped himself to a spookie. In spite of the hesitation his classmates were showing. He stuffed one in his mouth happily, and pocketed a second for later, and then accepted his two new ingredients.

The first handful nearly slipped through his fingers, but the second... seemed harmless enough. Not very edible though. And they were supposed to be making something food-related?

Depositing them in the shelf with the edible rocks and surprisingly still lump of sand rat, Jove sat down in the sand not far from the peculiar instructor, and nibbled on his second spookie. This class was surely different from his classes on the isle of War, it was more laid back. And involved less of a beating.

[[Sand +2 and beaks +4.]]

Auri was a little late for class today and by the time she had arrived the other student were already picking their new ingredients. When she approached the table of 'goodies' she was completely taken aback.

"You have got to be jacking me!" she said as a big grin went across her face. She had been joking that they ate sand, but there it was, plain as day, acutal sand. She could barley stifle a laugh. "There is no way. You are all pulling a fast one on me?" But no one was laughing. In fact they were taking handfuls of sand.

"Alright, alright. You guys are just... wow."
she giggled taking a handful in suit.

She saw that her second extra ingredient was beaks. Not the meat of the bird or even the bones to stew, but the hard beaks.

"You know, I thought I had this place down, but I would have never dreamed I would be so right..."

Oh how nice, there was finally more things for Valentino to look listlessly at. He was quite good at that, had won an award for listless looking and was putting his skills to good use. Oh how the judges would have swooned at Valentino's dull eyes, the little interest in them semi focused on the items that were now in front of him.

Taking the cookie from the pile, Valentino slowly munched on it and then he munched on it some more. the crumbling bits fell onto his shoes and pants. Taking the remains he offered them to the salamanders, mostly so that they would stop looking at him.

While the salamanders were occupied Valentino took out some of the new items. Taking the beak and sand, Valentino stuffed them into his lab pocket while chewing another cookie.

Hamika was instructed to get two more ingredients. That should be easy enough. She found sand first, and had one heck of a time getting it to stay in her hands. So she pulled hate off and spooned the sand into it. Within the sand she found some hair that she couldn't identify. It seemed to be the same thing on those skinks so maybe this was the other ingredient she needed.

Alex had been silently sitting, staring at a wall, not asleep but not quite 'awake' when the teacher had come into the communal dorm to tell them that they were to take another class. The zomboil snapped out of his odd state of limbo, slightly disoriented as he blinked eyes, gone dry from staying open for so long, around. A class now? At this odd hour? Well, whatever, he didn't really sleep anyways so this would be a good way to pass the time, right? He pushed himself unsteadily to his feet, and followed the rest of the students out of the dorms and through the caves to wherever they were being taken

The desert night was a stark contrast to what it had been like for the classes that Alex had attended during the day, and it was a contrast that he welcomed eagerly. The cold air against his skin was almost blissful, and he wondered why all of their classes could not have been done at this time of day. He supposed some of the other students might not appreciate it on the same level that Alex did, however, but at this time he was thinking solely of himself, after being forced into uncomfortable environments time and time again.

Screw everyone else.

They were led to an area not where their other two classes had been held, but instead to someplace new, with odd, metallic looking and dented domes sticking up out of the sand. Alex eyed these devices curiously, wondering what exactly their purpose might be, while still trying to pay attention to what the teacher was telling them to do.

Wait. It was time to cook??

His gaze wandered towards the shelving unit with all of the materials they had gathered in the last two days. He blinked once, slowly, wondering how in Jacks name he was supposed to make anything edible with sand, rocks, water an salamanders.

Well, whatever, if that's what they were going to give him to work with, he would just need to figure something out, right? So, Alex shambled towards the shelving unit, grabbed his supplies as well as a tray to put them on, and made his way towards an oven. He sat down carefully in the sand, keeping back some distance from the metal dome that was giving off an alarming amount of heat. He did not wish to get any nearer to that dome then he already was, but it seemed he was going to have little choice in the matter, really.

But first, figuring out what to do with the ingredients that he had. Thinking about it for a moment, lips pressed together in a firm line, Alex first grabbed the jars of sand, unscrewing the lids and dumping them both on the tray. Then, he gathered up the 'edible' rocks, and placed them in a layer on top of that. Next came the salamanders, which had been very nicely skinned and ready for cooking. He could not figure out why they really needed cooking, and why they could not just be eaten raw, the way the currently were. Oh well, again, this was a cooking class, so he should probably just do what was required and get it over with. He placed these on top of the rocks, and then finally, picked up his jar of water, and poured it's contents over top, making sure mostly to soak the salamanders and the rocks beneath.

With that finished, it was time to pop it all in the oven, which was the part Alex looked least forward to doing, Pushing himself up from the sand to his feet, he bent over and reached down for his tray, carefully raising it from the ground and then shuffling slowly, oh so slowly, and quite hesitantly towards that hot metallic dome.

It was quite a sight to see, a zombie who was quite obviously leaning away from the oven, with arms outstretched in front of him, hands grasping the tray. He slide the tray into the oven hurriedly, then backed away, shaking out his hands and shuddering, It was done, and he had not been burned. It was all going to be okay.

Time passed, and Alex took that time to glance around, to watch the other students as they too made their meals and placed them in the ovens. He could tell he was not the only one that was confused with what they were doing, but he kept his mouth shut, not feeling any need to draw attention to himself. A sudden clapping had him whipping his head towards the horsewoman who was running the class. They came? Who came? He frowned in puzzlement, and was then startled to the point of actually scrambling back a couple of paces in the sand when a strange looking creature darted past him and straight into his oven.

What was even....

(( ack! I don't know how I mixed that up, I'm sorry! I fixed my post from yesterday. ))

[Enter]

While he had raised a brow to give her a quizzical look, Sheridan (perhaps unlike many of his fellow halloween students) was not especially troubled when Dharu had roused him from his pile of cushions in the dorms. He may not have even been asleep at the time, but rather laying as he muttered quietly to himself, tail lashing as he swatted away the various moths and insects that fluttered through the cavern.

She wanted them to get up and go leave the dorms this late at night, to leave the moth ridden cavers and go to the surface where there may have been a glimpse of the stars? Really? He had absolutely no objections to this! In fact he was quite happy to do so.

A small smile, the cold air of the desert night was soothing, the tuft of his tail ruffling in the wind. It seemed the stress of the day melted away as he looked toward the night sky and the stars above. He would have been perfectly fine if all of their classes were out here in the middle of the night.

Distracted by the stars, it was only after they had stopped that he realized they were in a different location than the day before, a curious expression as he gazed at the series of metal domes. What were--this was where they were cooking? Really? He blinked, still uncertain as he collected his ingredients and stepped toward one of the 'ovens'.

There was a look of definite distaste as he looked at the tray containing his ingredients. Ugg, rats, they may have been skinned, but he still knew they had once had fur.

He did his best to arrange and mix the ingredients. On the tray he first arranged a layer of the edible rocks, forming a bed on which he would place the other ingredients. On top f the rocks, he laid out the two rats side by side, both with their bellies directly on the bed of rocks. Between the rats he set the bird beak and over it all he sprinkled the hair. He had taken hints from a fish recipe he'd once cooked that involved whole fish on a bed of rice and vegetables, seasoned with various herbs over the top.

Satisfied with the arrangement, he slid the tray into the oven wondering just how long he should leave it in there and what he was supposed to do with it when it was done. (He was so NOT eating it himself, absolutely not!)

What the--

His eyes widened in surprised, several startled steps backward as the strange creature not only run toward him, but then it had scurried -inside- the oven he had placed his 'food' into. Uh...was that really supposed to happen?

The fact that that day's class was being held in the more chilly night was very much in the ghoul's favour, as was the fact that Dharu was dressed a little more modestly. Edel smiled as she stepped out into the desert, noticing how much colder it was outside than it was in the underground caverns. The rocks had a higher specific heat capacity she supposed, which was good for regulating the temperatures during the day.

As if Dharu knew what was on the ghoul's mind, Edel was ushered towards one of the metal domes that stood half-buried in the sand, where they would cook their meals on the naturally heated stoves. The frost demon retrieved her ingredients from the shelf from Dharu's cart, noticing that the horsewoman or whoever it was that were in charge of overseeing the ingredients had taken care to skin the salamanders for her. That was very kind of them.

The preparation of the meal was a fairly straightforward task, as the ghoul did not know any fanciful or elaborate ways of cooking. Soaking the edible rocks in water to leach the nutrients from them, Edel sliced the meat of the salamanders into strips, soaking them in the nutrient-rich stock. The frost demon was a little stumped as to what to do with the eyebrow hairs and the desert bird's beak, eventually deciding that she could leave the former to be consumed raw like a salad and the latter could be boiled to soften it for consumption.

She hoped at this point that she was not the one who would be sampling the food.

While still waiting for the meals to be ready, the students were suddenly informed of their ... guests. Edel observed a rather strange but generally likable creature scamper into the oven, inspecting the meal that was still in preparation. It was clear that the teruu were native to the desert from the colour of the fur, the ghoul guessing that they too burrowed underground to stay.

The ghoul was seized with excitement and anticipation ... as well as a bit of anxiety as the teruu began to sample the meal, taking slow bites at the salamander meat. It seemed that the meal was tasty enough, for it was gone rather quickly. Was it delectable? Cooked well or a little overdone? Quietly, Edel waited for the verdict.
