As he came into class the next day, Aksaja was feeling only slightly more confident about what he was doing here. Maybe . . . Famine hadn't been such a good choice for him. But still, he wasn't going to just give up now. Picking a desk toward the back of the class, he listened to the instructions, frowning when the instructor mentioned messing up and killing them all. Oh Jack, please don't let that be me, he thought quickly.

Whoops, time to go pick up his wardstone. Heading to the front of the class with the others, the lightning dragon carefully unwrapped it and examined the glowing stone as he walked back to his desk. Now for some blood . . . let's see here . . . He poked a finger with the needle and tried to get three drops onto the wardstone. Erm, was that last drop really small? Or non-existent? He wasn't sure anymore. But it was close! Probably close enough. Probably.

Now it was time to go get a Scareon. At least he was used to handling minipets - if by "handling" you could assume that meant kicking them out of the way in his room. Uh, anyway. Reaching into the cage, he grabbed one of the squirming Scareons and tried to get the wardstone into its collar.

After fiddling with it for a minute or two, Aksaja let go to see if the stone would stay. It . . . looked like it would. Okay, then.

Well so far things seemed to be going all right - at the very least her seed hadn't imploded or suddenly come alive and tried to bite her - and no one else in class had managed to kill them all either. Yep todays class was going just swell as far as Zurine was concerned. Now what did she have to do next? Oh right..she had to replant her seed in a bigger pot.

Pulling the new pot closer she went about replanting it, at the end she eyed it critically but thought she hadn't noticed any sort of change she didn't think she'd messed up either - which was something at least. Right? Giving her pot one last check over to make sure it all looked good she picked it up and brought it back to the front of the class, she was far more pleased with the way things were going today then she had been yesterday.

Blood? Well, they really should have expected something like that. Her brow knitted with worry, Taryn dipped her fingers into the soil and removed her dead see-- what was this?! The seed had become a tiny skeleton, and the ghoul smiled broadly. She must have done something right! Now, to p***k herself...

While stabbing her own finger seemed initially upsetting, there really was no other option without removing her clothes or trying to measure arm spew into drops. The chimera made a bit of a tight face, steeled herself, and just did it before she could really think about it. It took a few good squeezes to drip 3 drops onto the skelelton's head.

Now it was time to re-bury the seed. Taryn stuck her finger into the soil to the first knuckle, just as she had the other times, and-- wait. The knuckle-rule was for normal-sized seeds and had worked well for this... but this was a whole skeleton! The ghoul began digging a hole, put in its feet, reburied them, followed by its calves, its thighs, all the way up beyond its head. Oh, good, the hole had been deep enough! Grinning proudly, she returned her work to the professor, looked to his unfriendly and generally disapproving face, shut up and scuttled back to her desk.

In a weird way, this class was starting to grow on him. The instructor wasn't very friendly, the subject was gruesome, Rafe never had any idea of what he was doing and the classroom was always full of bugs and dead animals.

But he wasn't obviously failing the course, so that bolstered his spirits.

Besides, he was in an astonishingly good mood after his perfect performance training yesterday, and that buoyed him up tremendously.

He made his way over to pick up his seed. He glanced around the room first, checking what to expect, so he wasn't horribly astonished to see the tiny skeleton. He stared at it for a moment, intrigued, before setting back to his next task.

Rafe pricked his thumb with the needle, letting out a very rat-like squeak as his blood dropped down. Unfortunately, he also jerked at the same time, leaving only two drops of blood rather than three. He sighed. Oh well. hopefully it would still work okay.

Carefully re-planting the skeleton, he tried to remember exactly what the point of all of this was. He was starting to forget.

User Image On the third day of class, Sparrow found himself attempting to figure out how to do the rest of the Alchemy.

And how to studiously avoid breathing in the scent of dead, rotting minipets around him.

Carefully he unfolded his wardstone, his fingers gentle and cautious as he undid the wrappings it. The glow of it was muffled by the outer layers, but once he got it free he could see the pale gold that was being emitted. It really did look rather nice, Sparrow thought, as he scrutinized it carefully.

The giving blood to it part, however, was not quite as nice. With a small sigh, Sparrow picked up the needle from his table and held up his free hand, lips pressed together in determination. He eyed the spot on his finger he was going to p***k and then, squinting a little, poked his finger with the needle.

It didn't really hurt, but Sparrow quickly let the blood drop onto his ward stone before he could get too weirded out by the blood.

And then it was time to replant it all again.

Sparrow pushed up his sleeves again, and, preparing to get his hands dirty, stripped the gloves from his fingers once more, tucking them safely away in his pockets. Once that was done, he pulled his pot towards him and picked up the ward stone, holding it carefully in his hands.

It really was very fascinating to look at.

Slowly, Sparrow lowered it into the pot. He pushed it beneath the oily soil, nestling it deep within - but not too deep, in case that would suffocate it.

Something tingled up his fingers - a small, shiver of FEAR, nothing more than the simplest of pulses, but Sparrow's eyes widened a little, a pleased smile on his face anyway.

The very moment Shenny entered third day's class, she was ready to scream of joy. Needles! Little needles were lying on the strips of unusually clean textile. And that wasn't all: a small cage based on the table was hiding a couple of lazy fat scareons gazing mindlessly at the students; they were ALIVE. Is she dreaming? Would they be sucking blood and fear from the scareons?.. Mmmm... she couldn't help smiling excitedly.

But no, she was wrong. The truth was even more exciting: they were going to use their own fear to bond their artefacts to the owners, and that would require their own blood. Well, that wasn't exactly what she was asking Bulbous yesterday, but that was quite close: it was all she could desire.

Shenny made sure to write down the fact that oneself's fear could be used not only to feed the artefact, but to bond it to the creator, that's an interesting way of using it... she never thought about it. The ghoul wondered for a moment, whether it's possible to create an artificial life, something like servants and bond them to their master... She clearly needs to stalk all the alchemy related books back in Halloween. Shenny also wrote down Bulbous' words about large scale productions: looks like she was right about it yesterday, and creating powerful artefacts would require feeding quite a lot of fear into it.

Absolute focus, the professor said. That would be hard. Shenny took a quick look on the other students' puzzled faces. The ghoul took her needle with just two fingers and studied it carefully. What should she choose? A finger? No, there's too much blood there, and it would be hard to control the blood drops. Okay... Shenny quickly pricked her tongue and drew the blood with the needle, immediately moving her hand away from the pot. That didn't hurt at all, the feeling was almost the same as if she had simply bitten her tongue. Shenny sucked the leftover blood, and made a few blood drops from the needle hit her seed, which now looked very beautiful, and only a tiny skeletal could look.

Shenny moved the rotting levathia leg into the larger pot, and looked around. Some of the students appeared to have problems with stabbing themselves, though, some clearly enjoyed the process. Replanting the seed, she made a little mess, since levathia's leg wasn't convenient enough to fit into the pot. The ghoul cursed herself for choosing the wrong minipet, but well, looks like it's planted, and nothing's going to explode and kill them all. Let's consider it a success.

Now that she has finished and relaxed a bit, Shenny was wondering what's going to grow from the seeds, since they have to have quite a big pot now. Would they be going to test their results?..

Her attention was caught by a Plague doctor she'd seen much before. Its moves were quick and certain, and it clearly enjoyed experimenting no less than the ghoul.

"Hello!" Shenny addressed the creature. "My name is Shenny. Sorry to distract you, but I think I need some advice... since I'm not in Amytiville.. yet.. I think I might lack some basics. Have you studied alchemy in Halloween?"

In all seriousness, bleeding wasn't the part that made him queasy. It was the pricking. Mort was better about it now than he had been as a younger first year, but still the idea of an actual needle in his skin - wait. Different needle. They weren't using doctor needles. Derp.

Well, ah, as long as nobody saw the minor panic attack he'd just gotten . . .

Okay, adding his FEAR. Why couldn't they concentrate it into the sample instead of adding their blood? It was easy to summon his pin, for instance. But maybe that worked on a different level than the teacher needed . . . Ah well. Grimacing, he took the needle to his thumb and poked.

No result.

A harder poke.

The hole was red, but his thick blood refused to come out. Mort had to dig in deep, wincing as he pushed hard on his thumb and produced more droplets than needed. s**t, just . . . agh. Whatever. Five, three, it had blood n any case.

Once he was sure the bleeding had stopped (and his rather torn thumb wasn't going to cause strange looks in his directions), Mort then turned to the next task at hand: the fat piece of meat staring at him balefully. Thank Jack it didn't look like Watt . . . Scraps of meat he could deal with, but a living specimen he couldn't help but almost lick his lips at. Mort glared back down at it, but the thing didn't back down: it seemed almost resigned to its position as lab rat and would take any chance possible to lash out.

Such as the first few times Mort tried to apply his wardstone onto its collar. The scareon had snapped and tried to bite him, and eventually it had to be held down for Mort to get the stone on. At least it looked quite snug and wouldn't be dislodged anytime soon. Disparagingly, he put the thing back up in the front of the class and dusted his hands, wincing when he pushed too hard against the still open wound on his thumb.

The call for attention was successful, as the horseman looked at the student, eying them. Yes the one who'd taken notes and then some. So it wanted to know of human remains? Then it would have human remains. Reaching into his gut, a skeletal hand was pulled out a black and green moth eating the the fleshy remains. "All things when treated right can become fear, so is my outlook and goal. Yet Humans are fragile things. So very fragile, good for growing and harvesting, but frail and weak. One must be careful with them yes. But-" grin as bells hanging on the inside of his robe clattered. "Such live specimens are not for this world sadly. Not for very long anyway. Though the bits.. yes. The bits can stay, linger. You can only bring the bits but you must use them quick. Infuse them with fear to tie them down if they are bigger bits. Much like you do here, you tie it down, anchor it so you can use it."

The moth, done eating dead pieces of flesh flew to the wall, let off small pulses of red light. "Iffffffffff" Bulbous hissed, "you impress me, impress our queen you might get such a chance to see out process of preservation. Until then I hope your future attempts at harvesting go... well."
