Kaeru ShindōUser Image

Along the rooftops he stalked, barely making a noise. His hood was pulled low, mostly covering his eyes. Kaeru stepped softly on the tiled roof and 'watched' the world around him. The shop was teeming with people, all of whom did not notice him. From head to toe he was covered in black, only bits and pieces of his arms showing. Kaeru listened to a couple haggle over the price of a necklace, and watched two children trying to steal bread out of a bakery stall. There did not seem to be a good target for the night, and Kaeru may go hungry. It was not until he heard a bunch of thanks from a particular shop. Kaeru crouched down and stalked over the roofs towards the candy store. He could see a girl exiting the shop alone, and seemingly defenseless. She was short and carrying a notebook of sorts, but did not seem to have a weapon. He located her pockets soon enough, and decided to move in for the steal. Kaeru lithely dropped from the roof, bending to absorb the shop. He waited until a group of people were passing until he made his move. Kaeru walked with the crowd, blending. When he was passing the front of the shop he purposely knocked his body into Shizuna, one hand reaching to knock her book down and the other reaching for her coin purse. Like a gentleman, Kaeru bent down and picked the notebook up, quickly slipping the coin purse into his back pouch. "Excuse me Miss, I didn't see you there." He said politely handing over her notebook. Kaeru casually turned then began to turn and walk away.

Hasaki Ryoukenxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

"What do we say to the God of Death?"

Hasaki was left to his own devices. Cool. He looked around, analyzing the layout of the shop. It was somewhat organized, but inconvenient for him and what he judged he would sale and how many of each. So he went through the shelves and the outer inventory and rearranged them how he wanted it. Then the first group of people came.... then more... then more... Just how popular was this place? Were her sweets that delicious? As he went through the tediousness of the job, Hasaki found he actually liked this kind of work. Yes, there were a few annoyances, but the majority of the work was mindless math and delivery. He knew Miyake would do her part, so at least he could rely on her to get her work done. The 'best' event was when a mother of three came to the counter. Her and her youngest got into an argument and he watched her shove the boy by the face. He wanted so badly to reach across the counter and teach her a lesson, but he could not afford to muck this up, so he stayed silent as a vein in his forehead bulged. What simmered him down was closing time and watching Miyake exit the store. He stomach growled slightly and he figured he bothered the woman enough today, so he decided to nab the cash pay, hit someplace to eat, then nod off to bed after a little work out. Without meaning to, he watched Miyake long after she left the store and he exited the front door. Really? What was with him...? More importantly, what was with her?

[Job completed]

While fighting his own brain, he saw a hooded man bump into Miyake. That was enough to annoy Hasaki, but really? A hooded man in the middle of the street? Bumping into fragile-looking people? As silent and quick as he was, he could not completely hide his movements, or his loot. That was it. Hasaki looked up above the man, then nodded to himself. He looked around quickly and found a needle someone was about to pack up for not selling. Something about being used for assassinations by their great-great-great grandmother who was a hunter nin. Some hunter nin... the needle had not been bloodied, and he knew the difference between an unused weapon and a cleaned one. He then flung it, angled at a forty-five degree angle above the man that bumped into Miyake. It hit a chain holding up materials to fix a run down shop someone was trying to fix up. A lot of the materials would fall in front of Miyake and the man as Hasaki calmly walked and melded with a group of people, exiting the group mere inches behind the thief. "You know, wolves love to deny vultures their meals."

"You first."

Exiting back to the store front, Shizuna would notice for the first time Hasaki's position behind the counter. 'Guess he was acting as a cashier...didn't notice him due to my intense focus on not dropping any of the goods and need to bring them quickly to the shelves for restocking...' Smiling at him, Shizuna would make her way back to the front of the counter and in front of the owner. After a short exchanges of words, him vocally, and her's in writing. Shizuna would be handed a signed mission scroll and an invitation to come back again as either a customer or helper. Bowing her head in thanks, Shizuna would than wave to Hasaki and exit first. She still had some missions planned and just wasn't sure if Hasaki needed to gather his things first or not. Having spent all of rush hour in that store made Shizuna miss the fresh air pushing her to want to step outside even more.

Standing there in front of the shop, Shizuna would take a moment to plan out her next course of action. The shop had priority due to the need of helpers during their prime selling time and as to the others, there wasn't as much as a time as just showing up and performing the task. 'So which one next...?' As she dwelled in her thoughts a passing crowd would bring about a lone man bumping into her and causing her to drop her sketchpad. 'Huh?' The incident would seem strange to Shizuna but before she could ponder further, the male would speak up and pick up her dropped sketchpad. Taking it back in her hands, Shizuna wouldn't even get a chance to scribble a quick thanks before the male was off again. 'Strange...I was certain I had a good grip on my book...I'm never careless when it comes to it...' Recalling the force behind the impact, Shizuna's acute observant mind easily picked out the fault within the force of impact and knew tampering occurred on the male's part.

Before Shizuna could act upon her realization, it would seem Hasaki stood up to the plate by taking from a merchant a unsold needle and throwing it at the chain of holding up materials currently being used to fix the next building over. Closing her eyes, Shizuna could only shake her head at the dramaticness of this entire situation. Really...was such a scene necessary? Not that Shizuna didn't appreciate Hasaki's help cause she did, it's just that Shizuna hated unwanted attention and this was definitely unwanted attention. Taking a step forward to be closer to Hasaki and the hooded male, Shizuna would realize the lack of weight in her left pocket. For someone as frail as Shizuna, the weight of a simple coins purse was more than a cause for constant fatigue. So for the weight to have suddenly vanish...the remaining pieces of the puzzle fit to place and Shizuna could pretty much sketch out a step to step comic representation of what occur behind what the scene had been made to look like. 'A thief...'

Opening her sketchpad, Shizuna would issue out a written warning to the man, should he not follow...Shizuna was more than happy to put him in his place. 'Violence is always the last resort but a thief is a thief and must be dealt with accordingly...no need to avoid a genin in this...' Stepping in front of Hasaki, Shizuna would extend out her right hand as a gesture to step back while her left would hold her sketchpad on the page with her recently and quickly scribbled on warning - "Return to me what you stole and we may see about a lighter sentence. This is your only warning." As frail and innocent Shizuna may look to others, she was not someone others wanted to mess with. She obtained Jounin for a reason and if the situation calls for it, Shizuna would show no mercy and demonstrate just what it was that got her to her current rank. It definitely wasn't cause of her cute appearance, that's for sure.

Kaeru ShindōUser Image

Kaeru was well on his way out until he saw someone behind him throw an object. There was enough noise in the place for him to see the needle crash into the chain. He spun on his heels and let the crash happen behind him. For a moment his sight freaked out, but the ringing in his ears stopped afterward. "Wolf? I hear no wolf. Only a puppy, or perhaps a b***h." Kaeru said with a smirk. His eyes were not visible through his hood from how he had his head angled. He put his hands up in a sign of peace, as if to say he was surrendering. The scratching of a pencil on a pad made Kaeru direct his attention to Shizuna. It seemed she was writing furiously for whatever reason. Kaeru raised an eyebrow at the girl holding the book towards her. "D-did...she draw a picture or something? Tell your girlfriend she might want to try speaking to me." He said to Hasaki, wondering what the hell was going on here.

Hasaki Ryoukenxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

"What do we say to the God of Death?"

"There's a reason birds fly and dogs don't. Even a young b***h can tear a bird apart. Evolution had to give you a small chance of survival." Hasaki smiled slightly, but this quickly faded when he spoke about Miyake. It confused him a little, though he spoke in the woman's place. "She's the one you took from. You return what you stole, nothing major will happen." He wanted to say something slightly different, but the first part of his second sentence threw him off guard. Girlfriend? Wait... why was he keen to the idea a little? That was just... no... well, maybe... wait... no. Hasaki's face grew a little red.

"You first."

The hooded before her didn't appear to be that determined of a thief as she first thought. The moment the items had fell the man and turned around with his hands up in the universal sign of surrender. Shizuna couldn't see the man's eyes though making her remain alert in case the man still had another trick or two under his sleeve as the saying goes. The somewhat vulgar and rough verbal exchange between the two males was displeasing to Shizuna but she would not comment on it as that was not the priority nor will she involve herself in teaching these two the proper way to speak to individuals or more so, the proper way to speak in front of a female. That would be outside her realm as a Jounin and more so something she did not want to have eating away at her precious art time. If she knew anything about attitude, it was that it takes the snap of a finger to learn but ages to fix. And frankly, Shizuna did not have ages to spend fixing someone up to avoid swearing when she could be spending that time perfecting her art.

When the hooded figure spoke up questioning Shizuna's actions, it became apparent to the Jounin that the man before her was blind and could not read what it was she had wrote. Caught in a predicament, Shizuna wonder what to do but was saved when Hasaki spoke up in her place. Turning to flash Hasaki a quick smile in thanks, Shizuna would notice the slight reddness to his face and assumed it was from the man's comment to Shizuna being Hasaki's girlfriend. Not that Shizuna didn't hear the comment, she just didn't get what there was to be so frazzled about. That and she didn't view Hasaki as anything but a student that needed mentoring. At seventeen, Shizuna had already experienced such instances before that were meant as a joke and as such Shizuna had pretty much developed a immunity to such comments. That and how can she fault the man for thinking such things when he was blind and unable to verify their difference in rank. Not that Shizuna was currently wearing any identification of her rank but still, in general, should Hasaki be the one to come to her defense, it would seem natural for anyone to assume such things. 'If he didn't I surely would have launched an suiton jutsu on the male considering I left my ink at home...' Sketchpad ready, Shizuna would continue to silently watch the rest of the events unfold before her; prepared to step in and perform a jutsu in necessary.

Kaeru ShindōUser Image

Kaeru was growing bored of the word play with this guy. He was all bark and no bite. There were a million comebacks he could have come up with, but decided not to. Kaeru walked past Hasaki without glancing at him, and stopped right before Shizuna. For a moment he stood, merely listening to her heartbeat to get a good 'look' at her. From what he could tell she was not damaged, but he could not outright say if she was pretty or not. Colors all escaped him, he only saw a world that was various shades of black, white, and grey. Since he had never been able to tell who exactly would be considered beautiful, he usually went by their actions. Kaeru had yet to even hear Shizuna talk, which was off-putting. He reached into his pouch and grabbed the coins, holding the pouch out in his hand to Shizuna. Kaeru jingled the coins, amplifying his field of view with each clink. "You'll forgive a ninja for practicing, right?" He said, making a puppy face at the girl. When he raised his head it would be evident that his eyes were off color, faded to almost a milky shade. Kaeru was not even looking directly at the lady. "That puppy following you seems to think me a vulture. I'd call myself a bat really." He said with a smirk underneath his hood. He took a step back and made a rather theatrical bow to Shizuna. "Kaeru Shindō, genin here in Kumogakure." Kaeru said, continuing to totally ignore Hasaki. He'd be sure to find him later and mess with him.

Hasaki Ryoukenxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

"What do we say to the God of Death?"

Hasaki was not one to pick street brawls, though he would not back down if one came to him. No, he hoped this guy went to the Chunnin Exams, and that Hasaki was the one to put him in his place. Money was his only issue. If he had enough, he could learn a new style or new basic jutsu, but as it stood he still had a long way to go to turn seventy-five into ten thousand. He needed to just rush missions, doing any odd job he could, even if that meant even more annoyances. He had to get stronger, not waste his time, bothering someone like Miyake. He had already taken enough of her time as it was. So he simply bowed respectfully and exited from her presence. He understood why money was used, but why was everything so expensive? As it stood, he would need at least thirty thousand to get everything he would need: theory scrolls to plan out his ideas, approval for them, payment for being able to use resources to make his idea happen, and a weapon that would be made out of more than decent materials. Everything would add up quickly... adding more frustration to the entire thing.

"You first."

As the male approached, Shizuna would maintain a straight face by her eyes were attentive and searching. Searching for any signs of possible attacks. Instead the male would approach her completely ignoring Hasaki and offer her back her coin pouch. As he did this the man would ask Shizuna for forgiveness while making mention of his profession as a shinobi. 'A ninja...? So an aspiring assassin than...' That was the only thing that made sense in Shizuna's mind as no other shinobi specialization would require one to practice extensive stealth unless a shinobi just wanted to play around. The male before her though, didn't appear to be of the later.

Light cherry coloured eyes still lingering on the man's face, Shizuna would agree right away that the puppy dog face did not suit him at all and that his eyes were faded to a milky shade. Further confirmation of her realization of the man's blindness. Taking her pouch from the male, Shizuna would notice for the first time the Kumogakure headband strapped across the hooded figure's chest. 'To think I missed it earlier...I was so focused on his overall body position that I took no notice of the details...have to sharpen my mind again...its twice in one day I let things slip from my attention...' Bowing her head slightly, Shizuna would take her coin purse from the male and return it to its proper place in the left pocket of her shorts.

The man would further comment about Hasaki being a puppy and how instead of a vulture he sees himself as more of a bat. 'A bat huh? An interesting metaphor...I can see how it works with his blindness. Bats are also creatures of the darkness so I guess that is an representation of his choice to be an assassin...' The male would then step back and offer her a dramatic bow before introducing himself to her. In response to that, Shizuna would give a small curtsy as well as nod of her head in acknowledgement.

Knowing the male was blind and how she was not going to speak up, Shizuna turned to the last page of her sketchpad. She had studied various forms of communications in her time, morse code, handsigns, braille, etc., and though she wasn't the most skilled, she could still perform/write handsigns and braille a fair bit. Just enough to get by with the most basic of conversations. 'Maybe I should spend sometime extending my knowledge on everything...' Writing out her message in braille first, her sketchbook would be filled with numerous dots, all of which she would poke holds though later from the back to give off the feeling of bumps; making it into a makeshift braille sheet.

As Shizuna was poking though her dots, she would notice from the corner of her eyes, Hasaki giving her a low bow before wondering off. Frowning a bit at his rash actions, Shizuna would merely shake her head before returning to her task. Unlike her normal speedy self, this message would take more time and concentration from the young artist as she wanted to make it right and good enough that he would be able to feel all of her letters and phrases. Done, Shizuna would overstep of bounds a bit and gentle bring Kaeru's hand onto her sketchpad to feel - "Nice to meet you. I am M-i-y-a-k-e S-h-i-z-u-n-a, a j-o-u-n-i-n."

Kaeru smiled at her curtsy, which turned out to be more than a smirk. Even after he spoke directly to her she did not speak, instead took some time to poke about in her notebook. He tried to get a good 'look' at what she was writing down, but that had always been something Kaeru had a hard time with. He waited patiently, assuming this was how she felt like communicating. Kaeru's curiosity peaked, and he really wanted to know what was the cause for this. When Shizuna grabbed his hand he allowed the motion, and rested his hand on the pad for a bit. With the tips of his fingers he rubbed across the paper twice, making sure he understood it the first time. The lady had done a swell job, which was considerate of her. Kaeru made a slight sigh before speaking. "I see you've picked up on my deformity." He said, not at all sounding very sad or upset about it. Kaeru accepted his fate a long time ago, and worked it to his advantage.

He removed his hand from the pad to allow her to respond after he spoke to her again. "And to think you could have easily handed my a** to me." He chuckled lightly before continuing. "No offense, Miyake-sama," Kaeru started, using her last name and even an honorific now that he knew better. "But you don't look anything at all as a kunoichi would. I took you for a common street girl!" A clang of noise behind Kaeru made him wince, though he quickly got over it.

Nagisa Aburame

--------------------------------

Nagisa lingered in the crowd watching the two shinobi closely. Shikaku clearly knew what he was doing, she almost wished his mission was to capture a Kumo pickpocket. He undoubtedly would have a relationship with anyone practicing in Kumo, which would allow her to test his loyalties. As it was he made a good show of not being very good at his art. Him and the Aburame would be a perfect team to locate a foreign pickpocket. As they moved their way into the less... polite regions of the city she stopped following. He surely wasnt stupid enough to try anything there so he probably went to the gambling hall.

Donning her sunglasses Nagisa melted back into the crowd once more, only to see something even more interesting. She would have to do something, for it seemed the theivery was becoming quite an issue. A fellow Jounin, who Nagisa knew only through the shinobi files, had been the blunder of another genin pickpocket. Watching from afar Nagisa began to wonder if she was letting him get away when a pile of building material crashed in his path. Two new genin, both idiots. she slipped closer to hear their conversation. "-don't look anything at all as a kunoichi would. I took you for a common street girl!"
"That's the idea. Making a scene was not a part of your shinobi training." Nagisa's voice was calm and controlled as she approached the three. None of them were likely to know her, and if they did there was no way they would realize her true status as Raikage. Perhaps Aburame clan leader or simply as a village Jounin if anything. "I imagine our latest graduating class didn't learn that lesson very well." Her eyes narrowed towards Hasaki as she gestured toward the pile of broken building materials. "A shinobi does not specialize in theatrics unless absolutely necessary. It also means we do not steal from out own village."

Gaze still ever observant, Shizuna would watch Kaeru for any changes in his facial features and posture upon reading her message. He would finger her message twice before releasing a sigh and speaking. He spoke of his, as he puts it, deformity, with no trace of apprehension or sadness indicating to Shizuna that he is someone who has embraced his faults and learned to live around it. With his hand retreated, Shizuna would turn her sketchpad back towards her and flip to another page, ready to write another response if needed.

Once more Shizuna was rather displeased with the male's language but would brush it off once more as she was set on not involving herself in teaching proper mannerisms. Being addressed with -sama behind her name made her shiver as she recalled bits of her childhood back at her family home. -sama was used as a sign of respect, but they had been dry words coming from the servants and elders of her home. All they wanted was for her to focus on art and become a tool to bring glory to their sub-par clan. They cared not for her being but for her usage...she hated being addressed that way but would not fault Kaeru for it as he meant it in all sincerity. His next comment would be followed by a clang of noise which Shizuna took note of how Kaeru winced at it. 'He's sensitive to loud sounds it would seem...makes sense being blind and all...all other senses would be heightened to make up for the loss...'

Starting on her response, Shizuna would follow the same procedure as before; write in braille and then poke the dots from the back once complete. Shizuna would be cut off though by the sudden intrusion of an unknown voice. Head raising up from her work, Shizuna would turn towards the source and see another shinobi spotting a pair of dark sunglasses and wearing a Jounin vest. It would take a moment but Shizuna would recognize the female as Aburame Nagisa, a fellow jounin of greater seniority, whom she seen around the village a few times during her sketching excursions and in the Raikage Tower. Sketchpad placed close to her chest, Shizuna would off the jounin a low, bow in respect. Straightening back up, Shizuna take a moment to flip back to the first few pages of her sketchpad with the pre-written messages - "Good afternoon."

Holding it out for Nagisa to read, Shizuna would leave it at that for a moment before returning to her message for Kaeru. As she did this, she would keep her ears open for his response to Nagisa, the jounin couldn't have spoken more truer words and she hoped Kaeru would take note of them as they were very important for any shinobi to know. Once done, she would once more take Kaeru's hand and direct it to the message - "No offense. I am as much an artist as a shinobi." That would be her response to his comment about her common attire and it was true. When out to sketch, Shizuna would keep the necessary equipment on her but she would still do her best to travel light. Not only to account for her lack of body strength but also because she didn't like the feeling of being dragged down. Light and free, that's how Shizuna liked to feel. Like that feeling, Shizuna hopes for her art and creativity to just flow out from her naturally.

{The more the merrier!}
Kaeru had been waiting for Shizuna to write her message when he noticed someone approaching their position. He did not have to turn and look at her to get a 'look' at her appearance. She was tiny but his attention was focused on these small bugs climbing on her. He shivered once, imagining the feeling of the insects over his body. Her attire reminded him of the many ANBU members of the village, which alerted him to her higher rank. He turned on his heels as the lady reprimanded Hasaki for being dramatic. "Quite a mess you made!" He pitched in, smirking at the guy as he stalked off. When Nagisa turned to him and spoke he put on a falsely serious face and nodded his head at the lady. A look of sincerity hit him as he spoke. "I think you are mistaken Bug-sama" He said, referring to her pets. "There has been nothing stolen! You can even ask Miyake-sama!" He said honestly. In truth, he had not stolen anything. That was only because they had caught him though.

--------------------------------

Nagisa gave Shizuna a slight bow to acknowledge her, knowing the woman wouldn't mind the lack of words. The silent learned not to rely on them, and it was a relief to Nagisa to be able to relate with someone without giving a speech. It seemed she was running minor missions with the mess maker before the event. The pickpocket spoke, which didn't exactly help him. Whether or not he still had to take did not determine whether something was stolen or not, but Nagisa didn't say so. Surely he could figure that out, if he couldn't then he wasn't fit to be a ninja. He was also quick to turn on the other ninja. Not a team player it seemed. He was not her favorite graduate, and would need to learn a few things before he left the village.

Rather than just speaking Nagisa drew her kunai and brought it to the boys throat with a quick slash. "Shinobi who cause trouble don't get off so easy as a pickpocket in the market." She returned the kunai and gave the boy a smile. "Those who turn on their village? They do even worse." Words had a way of being ignored, and frankly Nagisa had little patience for betrayal. An odd voice chimed in Nagisa's head. Next time you decide to stab me in the back, have the guts to do it to my face. It was a comment she had laughed at when she was in Konoha with Jeremy. It caught her as an amusing play on words, but strangely it seemed to fit. Whether it was known or not, she was the Raikage, and the thought of any more shinobi turning on her village churned her stomach. The thought of them crippling the village from inside was even worse.

Kaeru was now sure of one thing in this village. Not a single person had a sense of humor. First there was the guy who made extra work for villagers rather than stepping in front of Kaeru to stop him, and there was the girl who did not speak. Now, there was another lady who was so scary Kaeru wanted to run. But he did not, even when the lady brought her kunai up to his neck. He held his ground and waited for Nagisa to finish speaking to him before moving. "You seem to have me pegged wrong. I do this for the village." Being blind did not open up many doors for Kaeru, but hearing how he could certainly did. He was stealthier than the common ninja, and knew his only option was espionage. Before heading out into the world and learning all the world's secrets he needed practice. "If you were to line up all of the ninja in this village, I'd be close to the last one who'd betray it!" He said, walking over to where Hasaki had spilled the partly constructed structure. He bent low and grabbed one end of a beam, waiting for a villager to grab the other. As he talked, he worked replacing the beam to its former position. "I would like nothing more than to be an already seasoned ninja such as Miyake-sama, but that isn't the case. Practice can only make me as close to perfect as I can get, so I may work even harder for this beloved mountain-bound land!" He said, theatrically sweeping his arms around him with a smile upon his face.
