And if the vampires resist close the door completely?" She already knew Daegel's answer to the question but she wanted to hear it for herself.

She prepared herself for the eventuality of butting heads against Daegel but not yet. Being the natural predator that she was, she knew enough about tactic. Alden gripped her arm and hissed at her. She shrugged him off, waiting to her Daegels answer.

Daegal laughed; the gesture did not reach his cold eyes. "Foolish girl," he said as Aavard burried his face in his hands, "You cannot limit the number of humans. The door does whatever it wants. The only way to limit the humans is to kill them when they come through." He stood; the other nobles at the high table followed suit. "I suggest you study your history."

The nobles and Aavard followed him through a side chamber. As they walked down a narrow stone passage lit by torches, Daegal took Aavard's arm, smirking.

"Your mate dishonors you by challenging a noble," he said in amused tones. "My mate was trying to offer a diplomatic solution," came the cold reply. A heavy silence stretched between them. Finally, "She is an entertaining girl, your Alice... to say the least."

"You do not like her." A statement, not a question, Daegal noted.

"No."

"Then we have nothing more to discuss."

"Indeed," he said, amusement in his voice.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Alice assumed correctly.....She knew that there were other magics that could limit the amount of humans that were let through the door. Daegel was blind, consumed by power he forgot how this world came to be. However, it was too late to stop the war from happening.

She looked to Aarvard and sent him warmth, love and confidence through their bond. Alden pulled in her the opposite way from Aarvard and she went with him with little resistance. Looking forward she smelled a peculiar scent, a scent that she knew very well. Well this is interesting....what is a wild were doing here? A wolf in sheep's clothing. she thought to herself.

Charles chuckled to himself from his vantage point in the balchony. His wife looked into her champagne glass. "I don't like her," she told him.

"You'll have to get to know her darling. I'll be on the front lines tonight with my dear cousin. You must keep a close eye on her," he commanded. The woman sighed. "Can I at least feed on her? Shifter blood is delicious."

"No, my dear. Everyone still believes you are human. You must play the part. Our time will come soon enough."

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Alice continued to walk with Alden. She wished that her former clan weren't so hell bent on half-breeds because then she could find traces of the old magic in their folklore. She wished that her were protectors could help but she knew if they did, their lives would be at stake.

Alice suddenly felt a pair of eyes watching her. Extending out her senses, she located them a level above and behind her. Not wanting to alert the individual watching her, she whirled around to take in the view and caught sight of Charles. She filed the information away for later and continued to take in the names of nobles as Alden kept introducing them to her.

Charles caught sight of Alice looking up at the balchony in a sweep of the room. He did not bother to even try and conceal himself. "What a clever girl," he said quietly. As she moved throughout the room with his father, Charles mirrored them on the floor above. Alden turned to gesture at the chandelier and caught sight of his son. They met eyes for a brief moment before the king led his guests away.

Charles stared after Alice. "Soon, your precious mate will be in battle, and I will make sure he never returns..."

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Alice felt the intimate brush of another were's mind. She knew that it was one of her guardians Keegan. As Keegan told her of the clans uprising battle, she was surprised to hear that her father, a human was amongst them. She shook of the surprise and continued to listen. Paying more attention to Alden and the now encroaching ceremony, Alice could feel a disastrous plan at work.

Alice could feel herself changing ever since Aarvard became a Guardian. She noticed that her mental abilities were becoming stronger as well as her other were senses. While her mate was on the front lines, she would try to find out the plots to kill him.

Aavard paced nervously. He'd spent the entire day in conference and the night - as well as the corronation ball - was almost upon him. Instinctively, his hand flew to his pocket where the ring waited. His hand shook. How are you feeling, he heard his uncle reach out. Nervous as hell.

He followed Daegal and the nobles toward the great ballroom as the fanfare rang out. The doors opened. He scanned the crowd for Alice as they dispersed into the waiting crowd. He quickly found her and closed the distance between them in a few long strides.

He embraced her. "Was it terrible," he asked teasingly.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."No it wasn't too terrible." Alice said as she embraced him. One of my guardians is here, when you're on the front lines be careful. They are many plots to kill you. She took his hand, held it for a moment and then let go. "I missed you, Are you well?" She said.

"As well as I can be," he answered, looking over his shoulder. I know. Don't worry. I'll be careful.

"Well," Aavard said, turning back around, "Shall we dance then?" He slipped a white gloved hand around Alice's waist, taking her small hand in his other, and twirled her onto the ballroom floor. He looked over her shoulder, searching for Charles. He could feel him near.

He turned his attention back to Alice. "So, how did you enjoy the nobles? Interesting lot, aren't they," he laughed sarcastically.

"They indeed are as you put it, an interesting lot." Alice replied with nefarious thought.

Aavard looked into her eyes. "You're still worried, aren't you? I promise I'll be fine. Really, I will," he added; she didn't look as if she believed him. "Actually, there's something I wanted to ask you," he said, pulling her off from the dance floor and leading her outside to the vast gardens.

Once they were settled on a bench in the thick of rose bushes, he took a deep breath and began. He flipped his hand over and placed her hand on the scar. "You wanted me to make the blood bond with you, to be yours and yours alone. But... I was too hasty in accepting," he looked up at Alice and saw hurt in her eyes. He continued, hoping to explain. "Perhaps that was the wrong way to say that. I meant that I should have done things in the right order - the proper way. In the short time I've known you, I've grown to care for you greatly. If we're to be together, I want to make you mine in every way possible."

Aavard slid of the bench, kneeling in front of her in the grass. He took her hand and kissed it, reaching into his pocket for the ring. "Alice, I know it's been a bit crazy, but when this war is over I want to start a new life. I want a family, a home where I don't have to run and hide. And I want you, by my side, growing old with me and spending every day knowing that you are loved. Will you do me the honor of accepting this ring as a token of my intentions? Alice... will you marry me?"

He could feel his blood rushing and his heart was pounding in his throat. He swallowed nervously and waited.

User ImageAlice took in a sharp breath. In her eyes they were already married. and had consecrated the marriage. She didn't hesitate in her answer because she wanted to tie herself to him as much as possible and he to her.

She breathed out and said, " Aarvard, I want that life for us as well. I want to grow old along side you and watch our children and our children's children grow. We were destined to be together so my answer to you is yes. I will always say yes to you."

Alice stared at Aarvard with love in her eyes. She felt him reach for her hand to put on the ring but all she had eyes for was him. This was it, the moment she had been waiting for, the one that she was destined for.

Aavard slid the ring on her finger gently, still not quite sure he believed what was happening. He pulled her close and kissed her. I'll always come back to you, he promised. Rain began to fall lightly as the trumpet sounded the hour for the march to battle. Aavard took Alice by the hand and led her into a side door.

At once, several servants rushed him and oufitted him in silver armor, etched with marks of nobility and protection. All the while, he never took his eyes from her face. I love you, my one and only... my Alice. A uniformed officer handed him a polished, ornate sword; he slid it into his sheath and turned to Alice. I will be back for you, he promised. Alden will take you to the palace. He kissed her once more, as if it would be their last, and followed his men out the door and into the night.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Alice kissed him with tears in her eyes but she refused to cry. I know, we're meant to be together in life as well in death. I love you Aarvard. She stood by as they dressed him in his armor. He moved to leave and she grabbed his arm.

"Wait." She said. She pulled a dagger from its sheath and gave it to him. "This dagger was given to me long ago. They say it has been blessed to whoever wields it will not miss its mark. I want you to carry it. Please do it for me" She didn't give him a chance to give it back to her. She walked forward to meet Alden, struggling not to break down and cry when secretly her heart and soul were weeping.

She hardened her face into the mask that she used when she was hunting. And in a way she was. It was time to get to business. She walked with Alden out in front of the many nobles.
