I pushed the food away as I finished it. After I listen to the history I looked at both of them. "My memories came back to me and the people who are the high power of the human world made a last and tragic descion. That descion was to have all doors destroyed to the Otherworld to be destroyed so no one comes in or out." "I am an orphan in both worlds and so they picked me to lead a secret team to destroy the doors. I was raised in the orphanage here in the Badlands that was hidddn so I can complete my mission. Not only that the high power in the human world feared that the inhabitants here will come and kill us human so only one door remains. We couldn't destroy all of them because of balance." "I was picked and so I destroyed the doors and only one remains. I am that door. In order to open the door my blood must be shed by the ones who seeks it open. I have to be drained. You see my lords it is my fate to die and its the reason why many tried to kill me. I was guarded.and hidden away in the badlands as I was masked for not being human. I'm terrified even though I was trauned to kill all of those who are wicked."

Henry nodded as the healer finished his work. "I see... Well, get some rest. We'll worry about what is to be done later." He and the Captain exited the room and left Keira to finish her food and fight off the fever. They closed the door behind them.
"You know what we have to do," the captain said. "I can't let that happen. She's just a girl, no matter what she was trained for."
"But it's for the best, Henry. You heard her. The humans want the doors closed as much as we do. Though she seems to be confused as to whether she is the door or the key..."
Henry started down the stairs, "Perhaps it's not that simple. Lord Brown said she was the key, but the humans say she is the door. Perhaps to them she is the door... and from our side, the key." The captain snorted. "That's preposterous! And either way, it has to be done. I know she's just a girl, but think of the greater good here. With no more humans coming in, the vampires will be weakened. They'll have to go back to feeding on deer and lions and gryphons."
Henry stopped at the foot of the stairs. "Think of what you are saying, Thomas. We can't do that. It doesn't matter what the benefits are."
"Henry, you forget you took an oath. Not to this girl, but to our world. How many lives have we lost in the wars? How many innocent people died? One girl can spare all of that suffering. Aren't you willing to do what it takes?" Henry was silent for a long time. Finally, he met the captain's gaze. "The girl must die, Henry. And you must be the one to do it..."

I wanted to say more but I closed my mouth and thought it best to keep it shut. The look in Captain Monroe's eyes made me regret telling them the truth but it was my poor judgement that came to haunt me. I laid back in the bed and tried to sleep but I couldn't. I felt like today will be my last day as I was scared to sleep as different thoughts of someone coming in and killing me made it worse. The medicine worked as I wasn't that hot but being sick was the least of my worries. I got up and went to the window as I knew I could end my life just by jumping. If I died the last person I would want to see is John but it would be selfish of me to have him see me die. I did something that I haven't done in years as I silently weeped but I knew that I was going to die sooner or later.

John slipped into a washroom and changed back into his street clothes with the brown leather jacket. He stuffed his carnival robes in it's empty box, picked up the other, and made his way back into the hall. He felt his heart beating faster. He was worried about his vision of Keira. He couldn't let her die. And the woman from the shop said he could save her. He dashed for the stairs and ran into the colonel. He thrust the parcels in his hand. "Your jacket, sir," he said, running past him up the stairs. He reached her room at the end of the hall and saw her weeping at the window. His breath caught in his throat. He crept up behind her carefully and silently. John watched her for a few minutes then placed a gentle hand on her arm. She turned around. It broke his heart to see her that way. He pulled her into his arms and held her for the longest time, feeling her tears soaking his shirt. "I won't let anything happen to you. I promise." He heard his voice tremble. He pulled her with him onto the window seat and there they sat together until the sun had fully risen. His arms were still wrapped tightly around her and her face was burried in his shoulder. He rocked her gently and ran his hands through the long strands of her hair. "I promise," he repeated in a whisper.

I didn't know long I cried as I stared at the window. I felt a hand on my arm but pulled away not.caring if its a person here to kill me. I only realized who it was once I smelt the scent he had. It was John. My heart skipped as he held me so tenderly but John was just doing what he thought was nice since he did say humans emotions were a waist. He held me for a long time as we sat down and I felt my tears soak his shirt. I relaxed and stopped crying one the sun was rising. I wipped my tears as I heard John and shook my head. "Forgive me for I ruined your shirt." I managed to say. I took a deep breath as I finally looked at him and stroke his cheek. "Don't say that. Its your job to protect the Otherworld just as its mine to keep balance for both. My fate is to die John and I can't change that." I did something gutsy as I wanted everything to last. I leaned up and kissed John.

John inhaled sharply in surprise. She pulled away. "Um... My shirt's fine, but... well, that was... that..." He was at a loss for words. He looked at her and his heart melted. Her eyes held such sadness. "Clost your eyes," he whispered. She did so. He leaned in very slowly. His lips found hers and he closed his eyes as well as he kissed her gently but passionately. He continued tracing her lips with his own for several minutes before pulling away and hugging her tightly. "Otherworld can take care of itself. I will take care of you." He pulled away and grasped her hand. "Let's go downstairs and find out the colonel's plan, okay?"
He led the way down the stairs and into the study. The colonel was just pulling on his red military jacket. "There you two are. I've been meaning to talk to you."
"Keira says her fate is to die." Silence. "It has to do with the door, doesn't it, sir?" The colonel sighed. "I'm afraid it does." John pulled Keira behind him protectively. "The captain means to kill her, doesn't he?"
"John..."
"No. I won't let that happen," he told the colonel defiantly. Henry spotted his hand enclosed around Keira's and looked into John's face sadly. He sighed, "Oh, John... I'm afraid this is out of our hands now. I'm sorry. I'll do what I can to find another way, but..." He trailed off and sat down heavily, as a man with a great burden does. John squeezed Keira's hand gently in reassurance.

I was shocked as John kissed me but it made my heart skip right at this moment. I knew deep in my mind this will not last forever but I wanted to make this last. As he pulled away and hugged md, I hugged him tight. I smiled at what he said but I knew he couldn't protect me. He held my hand as I loved him close and when we walked in and saw the Colonel I knew just by his look that I was going to die. John got deviant as he placed me behind him and squeezed my hand. I walked to his side. "Its alright John, I knew this was too good to be true. I am meant to die and if today is my last then lord Colonel should end me now or lord Monroe before its too late. If I am killed by the wrong hands then the door will open. Please don't wait just finish it."

"It's not that simple, my dear," he heard the colonel say, "We're going to see if there is any other way, other than killing you." "There has to be," John interrupted, "I won't let you kill her. Colonel, you can't!" He turned to Keira, "Don't give up. Please," he held both her hands to his heart and bowed his head, "Isn't there anything you want to live for? I could show you our world... It could be your world too. You could stay here, with us. Just... Please, don't give up. Not yet." "John's right," the colonel said, "We can't be too hasty. I'm sure there are other ways. I remember the sealing of the doors myself. I watched them do it - every last one. I'm sure I can locate them and have them find a way to seal the final door. It will take a lot of persuading on my part. I'll have to return to Azure city, I'm afraid. If you like, you two can accompany me and wait for my return on my estate in the Southern Isles." John turned to Keira. "Would you like that? It's very beautiful in the summer. You'll love it there."

I looked at them both and then looked at John as he placed both my hands over his heart. I lightly gripped his shirt as I looked at the Colonel. "You both torment me as to wait. I rather die by the hands of those who wish to stop humans from coming in then the ones who wish to kill all humans " I looked back at John as I moved closer. "It sounds ver simple but you are worth living for and yet I'm terrified. I am being hunted and my judgement failed me as I took the word of the Colonel that Captain Monroe won't let harm come to me and yet he wishes to kill me." Tears started ro fall as I smiled. "I doubt there is another way. If I am alive then I will forever be hunted and I will be putting you and the Colonel in harms way." I lifted my hand as I stroke John's cheek. "Its my fathe but I clearly have no choice but I will go to the estate. I want to learn more." I gave another smile. "Your what,i am fighting for John."

I was dazed by the beauty of the place as my eyes looked.at everything. I felt out of place even though I was holding John's hand. "Its very beautiful but John, I feel alittle embaress but is there a place to sleep. I didn't sleep at all last night but I am scared to sleep. I feel like if I go to sleep someone might come in and..." I.didn't finish as just the thought of someone wanting me dead scared me indeed. I was at a lost as I excepted death but since I met John everything changed. I knew I wanted to stay with him instead of dying. I yawned as the estate still looked beautiful.

"Come on," John said, leading her to the building, "It's perfectly safe here. This territory is the most protected place in Otherworld. And since it's the colonel's estate... He's very powerful, Keira. Nothing bad can reach you here. I'll stay with you while you sleep." John carried his pack into the manor and led Keira into the great hall. The chandelier was as bright as the sun and gave of a great warmth. All around the manor were soldiers and bustling servants, all greeting John enthusiastically in passing, occasionally taking the time to stop and bow to Keira. John led Keira to the western wing and into a very large, circular room with a floor-to-ceiling window. "This is my bedroom," he told her, throwing his pack onto a chair. It was a gentle sea green color with gold accents - even the sea green walls had a shimmering gold pattern over it. The four poster bed had green curtains with gold tassles. "I'll show you around." He led her next across the hall to another large room, this time rectangular. It had a floor-to-ceiling window as well. This room was cream, lilac, and gold. "This will be your room," he told her. "The bathroom is the next door on the right." He took her hand and showed her the circular library, with it's high ceiling, many floors, and more books than seemed possible. The room echoed pleasently with the sound of their voices and the tapping of their shoes on the checkered, marble floor. He showed her the ballroom in all it's glory - piano, harp, ornate chairs and tables, a door leading off to a kitchen, and three ornate chandeliers. Finally, he led her to a door at the end of the hall. He opened it to reveal a set of stairs leading to the second floor. At the top of the stairs was a door with an ornate handle. He put a finger to his lips and mouthed, "Quietly..." He opened the door to an amazing room, twice the size of their rooms. It was a deep crimson and gold. It was very ornate and filled with books and curious intruments scattered upon tables. There was a large, soft bed with thick blankets and feather pillows. On the other side of the room was a large balchony. "This is the colonel's room. If you ever need anything - anything at all - and I am not around, come here." He led her to the balchony overlooking the gardens at the back of the house. Colonel Henry was below talking to a pig-like creature in uniform. "Borus! The colonel found him," he said in relief. The colonel looked up and waved. John waved back and the colonel returned to his conversation. John looked at Keira and smiled. "Shall we take you back downstairs to rest?"

I followed closly behind John. I would stop and look at the design as I never been to a huge place before. It felt surreal as I felt like I was in a dream. A dream that can quickly turn into a hellish nightmare. I curtsy or stop the people from bowing to me as I felt like I didn't deserve to be bowed to. After all we are suppose to bow to the upper class. I blushed abit as he lead me to his room. I saw the green coldors with gold and the room gave off a place where John was cofortable at. "Interesting shape bed." I smiled and then he lead me to another room just across. I sas the rectangular bed as it was calling my name to sleep. I was happy I wasn't far from John. "I know this is my favorite room." I called as one of the things I love to do was read. I smiled as my facd lit uo seeing all the huge space with nothing but books. It felt impossible to gather so many books and have them fit in one area. I saw the harp as he showed me the ballroom and my hands ache to touch it and run my fingers over it. After we left the room, he showed me the Colonel's room. I nodded as he told me if I needed anyrhing to come here and I made sure to remember where everything he showed me was printed in my mind. I saw the Colonel talking to a pig and heard John saw Borus. I looked at John. "Yes I am very sleepy but first I have been wanting to do this." I kissed him lightly as I felt myself blush. I then grabbed his hand and pulled him back to the ballroom. "When I always felt scared a lullby well I think a lullyby would come to me and calm me down " I ran my hands over the harp and position myself softly. I took a deep breath and started playing the sweet melody as my hands gracefully moved striking the string as I played the melody of the lullby.

John sat on a long couch and listened intently as Keira played. He smiled as he watched her fingers play over the strings quickly and delicately. He applauded when she finished and kissed the tips of her fingers. "Am I interrupting?" John and Keira turned. The colonel stood there wearing his full formal uniform, down to the red sash and white gloves. His shoes were shined and his sword polished. He smiled kindly. "I wonder if I might have a word with you John." "Sure. Go ahead Keira. Get some rest." She left the room, closing the door behind her. The colonel turned back around and sat in a high-backed chair. "There is something you must know. We've found a way to save Keira." "That's great!" The colonel held up a hand in silence, "There's more. You have to choose whether or not you want to do it." John sat back on the couch. "I'll do it. Whatever it is, I'll do it." Henry shook his head. "It's not so simple. You see, the door needs her blood to seal because it was her ancestors that created the doors with their blood. In order to save her... someone must make a blood bond with her and take her place. And they will die." John exhaled sharply. "All I have to do... it bond the both of us together... and sacrifice myself?" "It's your choice. I cannot make the decision for you. I would volunteer, but my blood... my blood cannot make such a bond..." John detected a note of sadness in his voice and sensed a story there. He knew it would have to wait. "I'll do it." Henry nodded and clapped a hand on John's shoulder. "I knew you would. I'm proud of you... son." John's heart lept as the colonel teleported away, no doubt on official business. "Thanks," he said breathlessly to the empty room. "...For calling me son."

I smiled as John enjoyed my song and when I heard the Clonel I left as he wanted to speak with John. I knew ease dropping on their conversation was wrong but I knew it was about me. I listen carefully and shook my head as I heard what must be done. I couldn't let John take my place as it was my fate to die and not him. What would be the point to live if John wasn't going to be in my life. I walked off to the room and crawled underneath the covers. I told myself I wouldn't let John bond with me to save me. He wouldn't grow old but I will as I am human and he's not. He had a life and I didn't. I am the one that needs.to die as he has someone here to love him. I finally drifted to sleep.
