A quiet and benign air filled the room as the last notes of Waltz For The Moon faded into the night. There were cheers and shouts from the more boisterous children as the Nyancats sank into a bow, and the adults smiled and clapped with dignified reservation.
One of the mysterious owners of the building, a tall red haired woman, looking resplendent in a siren red dress, stepped onto the podium with two children representatives in tow. She raised her hands in sweeping gesture of welcome, and announced,
"Welcome, one and all, to the Winter Ball!"
More cheers rose from the floor. The woman smiled and launched into a brief introduction for the night's beneficiary, which was followed by a most adorable thank you message from the two children on behalf of the orphanage. Behind them, a large glittering globe, about the height of an average man, was already filled to the brim with cash and cheques. There was no doubt more would be coming in as the night wore on, and the rich and influential sought to outdo one another in terms of generosity.
Another light smattering of applause echoed around the hall as the woman led the two children down the podium, and the Nyancats picked up their instruments once more and struck up a new tune...

Napoleon // Pinky" Do what?" The phrase had confused him. Nap watched as Dani turned towards the dance floor and high tailed it after her, not wanting to get himself lost or stuck as the crowd swirled about to the music. He was practically in her skirt till they reached the edge there was a little more breathing room. Nap managed to relax a trifle. He kept a wary eye out for anymore such bumps though. They seemed harmless enough but you never know. Things here at the academy were beyond peculiar to his comprehension. Dani seemed to be waiting on him. He shuffled his feet. " How do you do that?" He pointed to the dancers. It was pretty fascinating he had to admit, how each dancer seemed to move in sync with their partner with no verbal communication. He wondered if human's had a form of telepathy. If he could only get a higher view and not have to be down here among them! ((*punts socially awkward penguin from the room* Go! we don't need you here!))

 “Well the basic step isn’t very hard at all.” Dani ensured her partner and moved to stand beside him. She began to demonstrate the basic box-step as she explained each part. She repeated the instruction, giving Napoleon encouraging remarks and corrections. “Left, right, left, right, left, right. See, that’s right!” She waited until she thought that her partner had the swing of things before she moved to stand in front of him again and held her hands out, palm up, for him to take. “Now you’re going to keep doing that and I am going to do the exact same thing, except in reverse. Okay?”
(( Ahahaha, I have been mulling over this post for too long xP . I had actually explained the dance steps in the original post, and left it more open for responses, but it seemed really bland, so I hacked it. You can feel free to wrap up the dancing in your post if you want ^___^;; . ))

Napoleon watched Dani's feet as she moved through it a couple times then tried it himself, with her instructions he was able to pick it up fairly quickly. A grin split his face when he got it right. Dani had managed to distract him so well that when he put her hands out to try it together, he'd accepted immediately without thought. " Okay!" He concentrated on the ground as they danced, watching as her feet moved the same time his did. He repeated the left and right instructions as he did it. Nap didn't do a very good job of keeping time to the music...he didn't realize he needed to. After a couple cycles of the step he grinned up at her, proud that he'd gotten it. It was then he realized he'd been holding hands with her for the past couple minutes. Nap's steps faltered as he pulled his hands back and clutched them to his chest. Had she felt the difference in his hands? He didn't know if the hologram fingers would feel solid to someone else or not. Or had she noticed that though there were 4 fingers there, the index and middle always moved at the same time and same for the ring and pinky fingers. His wings were invisible but they were still solid, someone would feel them if they touched his back. Then again he was pretty sure the nose on his face wasn't solid because his shades slid every time he looked down. Only the hooks around his ears kept them on his face. The only reason Napoleon had felt remotely secure was because of the disguise, no one was freaking out over the pink alien, no one was wanting to examine him or touch him or do god knows what. His old friends scary stories whispered evilly in his mind, telling of horrible things that happened to aliens lost on a foreign planet. He watched Dani's face to see if he was safe...or if he should run. ((It's cool ^_^ I don't mind if you take your time with a post. God knows I can take forever xd ))

Straffe had been worried that Anemone had simply been absorbed by one of the walls, he had not expected to find her with other people and had instead been looping around the outside of the event, searching for... well... people who didn't normally deliberately stick out. He actually walked past her a few times, getting a little concerned that she had actually left and he would be without a partner-- that would be bad, and Straffe felt himself becoming more nervous as his search proved un--
"Anemone!" He bombarded her with a full dazzling 1,00 watt smile, his body pulsing with a warm, golden light. He brushed his hair self-consciously behind his ear, Anemone was looking... really... well, not like his librarian from grade school. It took a moment for him to spill out the thought into what was socially acceptable. "You look really pretty. Your dress compliments your eyes." Yes, that worked well. He took her hand and gave a little torso bow.
"Miss Sea Flower, may I have this dance?" Cheese 100%!! He adjusted his bowtie slightly, hoping that his suave and sophisticated side was... uhm... there. Of course there was no sign that he was worried he was going to step on her dress or that he was concerned about her stepping on his feet or any of that.
He still hadn't given his secret santa their present... really, he needed to find a chance to slip it in all sneaky like, hopefully his target was already on the dancefloor and he could ninja the present in a back pocket.

The mistletoe bird flitted around the room, unseen by most eyes. It suddenly dove down to the dance floor, chirping happily as it hoovered over Dani and Napoleon. It remained above them, watching expectantly with beady black eyes, as though waiting for something.....

xxxx"Hello, Straffe." Anemone bowed her head briefly in greeting, once again marveled at how upbeat her partner always was. He practically radiated warmth and sunshine, it was almost unnerving. He almost glowed... Her eyes broke from Straffe's as he complimented her, something Ane wasn't too good at accepting quite yet. "T-thank you," She managed to stammer, eyes locked onto the pointed toes of her matchingly uncomfortable heels. Anemone flushed pink as the dark boy took her hand, fighting the urge to hand it back out of his grasp. What came next was what she had been dreading all night, something she had silently prayed she wouldn't be asked to do... dance.
xxxx"Uhhhh," Anemone stalled, free hand curled into a ball. "I, I-" It was rude to decline. It was a ball anyways; she didn't want to send Straffe the wrong message or anything by declining. Gulping down her nervousness, Anemone responded weakly with a nod. "I suppose that would be the nonchalant thing to do." Glancing out into the somewhat active dancefloor, Anemone let out a small sigh before returning her attention back to 'Chocolate'. "Or rather," she added, brows furrowing as she realized how rude that could have sounded. "I'd love to." Lies, but that was alright. Anemone knew she just had to suck it up, and dive in head first.
xxxxLightly stepping over to the dancefloor, Anemone remained meekly attached to Straffe's hand. "Do you know this specific dance?" She questioned as they found a clear spot on the ballroom floor. The majority of the dancers were in the middle of a smooth waltz, while a decent handful of couples were swaying with their own steps. Slipping in front of Straffe to assume the position, Anemone paused briefly for a moment. Males generally led in dance, but she wasn't about to let Straffe drive her around the floor if he didn't know what he was doing. He had said she had nothing to worry about, but... Anemone supposed it would be clear if he did or not simply by his beginning stance, and accordingly waited for him to position himself. Lifting their clasped hands in the air, Ane stretched out her free arm to signal it was alright for him to wrap his opposite arm around her waist. Welp, it was time to dive in...

Juno Tsing || Sharp Shooter
------
Once Clow's hand was gently placed in Juno's hand and they were somewhere in the mingle of 'orphans' and gusts, he spun the youth effortlessly with a lift of the hand holding hers and an easy circular motion of his arm.
"Have you done this before? Not the dancing I mean..."
Juno tilted his head curiously at the inquiry. Not really knowing what she meant. "You mean this ball stuff..? On occasion I guess." As he kept his feet moving in a semi-waltzy fashion to the music and holding onto his partner, he thought about other events similar to this he'd been to. Granted it was far more often than he was letting on. He noticed she was slightly distracted. Was she looking for someone more of interest to her? Perhaps a crush? Someone to ask for a dance after him? Or maybe she was surveying the area.
He took a moment to scan the room as well. But it doesn't seem like many people are dancing for long when the music changes to an upbeat piano tune. Very catchy and Juno finds himself swaying his hips to the beat before he realizes his one song with Clow is up.
"Oh, well what do you know. That was pretty fast." Juno says with a pout as he pushes his bottom lip out childishly. He holds Clow out by arm's distance and bows to his partner again. "It was lovely dancing with you Miss Clow. I guess I'll have to free you and allow you to dance with other more eligible young men than myself." He chuckles, a toothy boyish smile lighting up on his face. "Enjoy your night, the atmosphere's perfect for romancing someone." He smirked and nudged her arm with his elbow before sliding off through the still dancing couples, there was a certain someone he needed to find before the night was over.

Straffe noticed the faint hesitation in Anemone, unsure if she was just not used to dancing with other people or if maybe she was worried he would embarrass her or... oh yeah, he realized, he'd just dragged the poor thing onto the dance floor without checking her preferences first. Maybe she didn't like to be touched, a lot of students didn't like the be touched. That made him a little more nervous but before he began shining overly, he clamped down, if she was too uncomfortable, she'd just tell him; and he hadn't grabbed her that hard, had he? Of course not, he told himself.
"Mhm, I'm sure we'll be fine." He murmured lightly, softening this with a wide grin. As Anemone took position he slid into place with an easy sense of physical memory, his hand touched her waist lightly, his feet moving into the correct position, he wasn't as technically perfect as Anemone, but there was a natural ease to the movement when he stepped forward, gently easing them into the first step. His hand touched her waist just softly, neither slipping nor shifting inappropriately.
Straffe could dance well enough, he knew the basics and he wasn't totally uncoordinated. He grinned, his palms warm with light. "Is this acceptable?" He asked, noting the look of concern she'd been throwing him earlier. "This might be work, but there's no reason we can't relax." Hm, that sounded a little inconsiderate, he worried, but he was just trying to put her at ease.

"Certainly,"
Waltz; a man’s part in this dance, must be the one to lead. To become a firm frame to present a lovely picture, his partner. Although, it looks like Flo’s frame was made from wobbly ugly “short” sticks. Zone kept lowering his head to look at his feet, carefully avoiding Flo’s delicate toes. Then when he caught himself doing so, he quickly raised his head back in position.
“Sorry. Never done this before.” and he tilted his head back down again to look at his feet, unlike Flo who secretly keeps an eye out on hers.
"I thought the music was alright, Perhaps the Nyancats aren't quite your type?"
“Well you’re a girl--er--a lady. Of course you’ll like it.” he got the hang of the steps a bit, still stiff on his swaying, he decided to look around. “Anything peculiar to your side, catfish?”
Nothing seems to be wrong…yet. Except for the weird fluttering bird he glimpsed at and then flimsily ignored after.
“The night seems peacefully odd. But I guess that’s better” hopefully he didn’t spoke too soon. Finally the waltz ended. He sighed in relief, with him not stepping on someone’s foot or accidentally bumping a stranger. Shooing a student or a kid wasn’t difficult, he could just scowl or look at them fiercely, which he did with a grunt, and then they waltz away from him.
He stopped on his position as one of the founders welcomed the guests. Zone clapped his hand slightly, while glancing from side to side, and waiting for Ha---fat kid’s broadcast of suspicious persons.

xxxxOh god oh god oh god he's touching me - -
xxxxAnemone's face remained stoic as Straffe placed his hand lightly on her waist, sending a shiver up her spine. At least he knew what he was doing? Anemone followed his lead stiffly, her movements inorganic and forced. Something perhaps an untrained dancer wouldn't notice, but certainly she was tensing under his touch. Anemone perused her lips, staring directly at Straffe's chin. He was a perfect gentleman, like always; this was all simply too much for her right now. Between this event, the people, her sister, her whole situation in general- she just felt so overwhelmed by everything. Mirroring his steps with ease, her pale lavender eyes seemed to glaze over as she spaced out to the Nyancats humming away, moving rhythmically with her partner.
xxxxDespite her spacey appearance, Anemone replied to Straffe's question swiftly. "Yes, very." She nodded briefly. "You seem to know what you're doing quite well." She couldn't even fathom some of the students she saw behaving like they were expected to; let alone dance. She certainly could have done worse in the partner department. Anemone's eyes darted away from Straffe's face for a moment into the crowd around them, the waves of couple churning together to the music. She felt an unfamiliar pang in her chest as she caught glimpse of bright red through the moving bodies; but before she could peer around her partner's other shoulder he had spoken once more.
xxxx"R-relax?" Anemone echoed emptily, blinking. Well, easier said than done. "I suppose you're right." He was, naturally. That didn't mean she could so easily comply, as much as she would like to. Ane was sure everyone else was having fun... Furrowing her brows, the pale girl once more glanced out into the crowd. Yup, everyone else sure did seem like they were having fun. Returning her attention to Straffe, she smiled daintily. Despite her discomfort, this could have been a heck of a lot worse if she had been paired up with the wrong person. At least Straffe was trying. "You're sweet, Straffe." Anemone let out a soft laugh, giving his hand a brief squeeze with her own sweaty palm. She paused a moment, eyes lifting to the ceiling in thought. "Or should I say, 'Chocolate'?' A smile played at the corner of her lips- at least she thought it was funny.
xxxxAs the nyancats song trailed off in a low hum, Anemone cleared her throat quietly. "I-I think I need to get a refreshment," Returning her hand, the girl fidgeted with her dress while avoiding Straffe's eyes. She needed a break, a breather, a moment to herself. But she was thirsty, so she wasn't totally lying. "Thank you for the dance." Anemone's eyes met her partners as she briefly flashed him a smile. "Perhaps we can again once more before the night is over." Half curtsying, Anemone scurried off in the direction of the nearby refreshments table. In one fluid motion she slipped by the table and grabbed a glass of a golden bubbly liquid, all too eager to get away from people to actually look at the selection.
xxxxExhaling deeply now that she was alone, Anemone felt her anxiety slowly ebb away as she made her way to the safe spot: the wall. Leaning against it almost as if she was desperate for it's support, Ane lifted the glass to her lips and took a few desperate gulps. The bubbly liquid burned slightly as it went down her throat, causing the girl to scrunch her nose at the unfamiliar taste. Irregardless, she took another few sips. Thirsty was thirsty! Perhaps it was some sort of pop, she had never really been allowed to have soda in the first place. The pale girl in the royal blue dress stood by her lonesome, unintentionally sipping on champagne as she swayed ever so slightly.

Anemone seemed so tense, he was worried that she would spontaneously combust--- god he didn't know what her power was (not all the students shared as much as he did) but he hoped it wasn't spontaneous combustion. She seemed distracted, too flighty. He could see that panicked edge creeping into her brows, this furious frown that Straffe knew was fear and anxiety but had never experienced himself- quite as openly. The thing about being an optomist, negative emotions didn't last anywhere near as long, or rather... rather, what? Did he just not sweat the small stuff, or was there something fundamentally wrong with his happy-go-lucky attitude? A voice in his head seemed to feel like maybe that was the problem, he didn't seem serious enough and everyone else had to be more serious to make up for it? Was that why so many of the kids in the academy were always so on edge? He hadn't been there all that long, how many weeks or months since he'd started at this strange new school? Or was it again, that nagging feeling that if he had been born with these abilities, his classmates might be-- ENOUGH. His brooding was getting totally off-track and the music was ending.
The song finished and before Straffe could release her, Anemone had fled. He blinked after the Sea-flower, watching as the crowd swallowed him. A moment passed in which he wondered.... was he that bad a dancer? The very thought that she'd run not having anything to do with him took a few moments to rise. He stood for a moment, a little floundered on the dancefloor before the Nyancats started their next tune. A few adults brushed past him and Chocolate realized he was in the way.
Right. This isn't the time to be worried that your classmates are freaking out. There's a job to do. You have to mingle, look natural... and be cool. He frowned, this was important, wasn't it? There was a mission, and he had to keep his head in the game, that's the whole point of it. No scenes, no incidents... and somehow find a spot to given his secret santa to it's recipetent. He rubbed his forehead, frowning ever so faintly. He had just been working into the groove of the dancefloor too. And there was that voice again, reminding him that it was dark, and therefore past his bedtime, no wonder he was starting to crash. He caught a moment of weariness and found himself concentrating for a moment, he'd been expending energy out of sheer nerves all evening and it had waned, he needed to think a little clearer.
Perhaps make contact with the other secret agents and see how they were doing? If he could find that person he was looking for. A determined smile worked its way over his face and he started weaving through the crowd.

 Napoleon caught on quickly as Danica lead him through the steps. They were keeping terrible time with the music, but that didn’t really matter. The little alien seemed to be enjoying himself, and that was the important bit. Dani smiled at her partner’s progress and was caught completely off guard when he suddenly shot away from her. “Wh-” she begun to ask before she noticed the way he was holding his hands to himself. She recognised that look. “Oh, I’m so sorry. I forgot. No touching.”
Now she just felt like a bully. He had taken her hands of his own free will, but she felt like she had tricked him somehow. And besides, she knew how easy it was to forget sometimes. She wanted to ask him what his abilities were, but this was hardly the time or the place. Some people, did take offence to being asked and, even if he didn’t, there was too great a chance of them being overheard. As it was his sudden movement had caught the attention of a few of the closest dancers, although most of them had turned back to their partner’s already. They probably thought she had stepped on his foot or something.
(( I could not come up with a damn thing for that bird OTL . Napoleon wouldnt know what mistletoe is would he xD ? ))

~~~
It was... an awkward start, to be honest. Zone seemed very conscious of his feet and, well, one can't really dance properly when one's partner was looking down all the time.
“Sorry. Never done this before.”
She offered a dry smile in response. Perhaps she should suggest that he take social dancing lessons, it was a useful skill in such occasions... Or not. Men were very sensitive sometimes about such... things.
“Anything peculiar to your side, catfish?”
"Not in particular, uh..."
She took a quick glance behind Zone and did a double take when a brightly coloured red-and-green bird zipped through the air. Was that the mistletoe bird they were warned about? It was a lot brighter than she imagined. But, it wasn't a villain so, nothing to worry about, for now...
Moments later, the song ended and they parted, Zone with some very obvious relief.
"Thank you for the dance," she said graciously. "It was..."
A movement at the entrance, there was a suspicious looking figure at the corner there--
"Enjoyable..." she ended distractedly. "Listen, you go ahead and enjoy yourself, I have someone I need to talk to." She quirked her lips in a half smile, waved, and made her way to her destination. Ooh that Fat Kid Hack, she was so going to strangle him...
~~~
& [ENTER]
Two seconds after Hack finished his final touches on tonight's brilliant prank, a grip as hard as steel closed around his ear, and PULLED.
HARD.
"OW WHAT THE BLOODY--"
"-- hell are you doing." He winced as a very familiar voice and face met his vision: old hagfish Flo. She looked mad, fuming mad to the point of possibly exploding, to be precise.
"Oh uh, you know, spicing things up a little?" he offered with a watery grin. He squealed again when the woman twisted his ear viciously.
"By SPIKING the drinks?" she hissed. Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted a white haired girl sway on the spot. God forbid it was one of theirs. But if it was...
She turned her full attention and rage back on The Pest. "Are you out of your mind?! Or do you even HAVE one?!? There're CHILDREN here tonight you idiot!"
Hack whimpered and waved his arms around uselessly. He wanted to pull Flo's hand away, but then she might just yank his ear clean off his head if he wasn't careful, and he liked having two ears thanks very much.
"Alright alright I'm sorry! I just... thought it was kind of boring and--"
Another hard yank, with a twist in the other direction.
"OW! OKAY I'M SORRY!"
She finally let go, but her expression was still murderous. The man nursed his sore ear. God what a vicious woman...
"What are you doing here anyway?" she asked suspiciously while he straightened out his tuxedo. "You're supposed to be in Control."
He sidestepped to the left a bit to put more space in between them - just in case - and muttered quietly in a lower tone. "One of the kids here, their earpiece went bonkers. I need to go fix it."
"Who?"
"Freckles. You know where she is?"
"There," Flo pointed out curtly. "I'll be in Control, and if you try anything stupid again..."
She left the threat hanging there. Hack grinned brightly.
"Yes ma'am, you will torture me in whatever creative ways you see fit, got it."
And before the woman could say another word, he hurried into the crowd, eyes on the head of green hair...
[FLO EXIT]
===
Hack approached Freckles from behind quietly, not wanting to startle her. She was sort of... spacing out... Could she be one of those Nova aliens? Green was not a colour girls usually dyed their hair with after all. And she didn't seem to have noticed him yet...
"Hey," he put one hand on the girl's shoulder. "Are you Freckles? I need to fix your earpiece. Oh and, I'm Hack by the way."
===(( an IC post for Hack leaving will come later also formats but for now I just wanted to get this down before class askjdlajfdklsfk.SORRY its kinda lame Cheekie but I figured I should let her respond first???))

Napoleon // "Pinky"
((Haha Nope ^_^ Let'see....))
"Yeah..." Napoleon looked at the ground awkwardly. She seemed more concerned with the fact that he didn't like touching than anything else. He figured he should feel relieved, really he just felt embarrassed and wanted this whole 'mission' to be over with so he could get away from all these people. It was entirely too much for the little alien.
Napoleon ducked, leaping backwards as something even smaller than he dive-bombed them. "Whatisthat?!" He squeeked as the little creature flitted about above them. He glared up at it. The bird didn't seem inclined to come any closer or to leave.
...............................
Luka Zevachya // Civilian
Luka curtsied to her partner after the dance and presentation. She'd found out through small talk that he was the son of one of the CEO's in attendance. She thankfully hadn't made a fool of herself. She bid him farewell and watched his back as he disappeared into the crowd. She blushed. He'd been nice. She fantasized that maybe he'd come see her dance someday. Luka shook her head at the silly notion. She followed the example of a few people and took the opportunity to grab a glass of punch. She placed her hand over her mouth, stifling a giggle as she saw a handsome man by the entrance got an earful from a shorter woman whom Luka assumed was his wife. She watched their little drama, unable to make out anything they said and lost interest as the waving and pointing ended and the two parted ways.
She sighed as the sipped her drink, she probably ought to find a new dance partner. That's what she'd been brought for anyways. Luka took her time, keeping an eye out for the boy in the doublet, she wanted to ask him where he'd got it.
