Petra wasn't really any good at singing or dancing. That was Robert's thing -- she didn't remember a time he wasn't singing, his tenor echoing in their modest apartment. It was one of the fondest memories she had, although she had never told him, something that had always brought a smile to her face when she was sure he wasn't looking. She'd wake up to the sound of his voice echoing off the tile of the bathroom, and be content to just lay tangled in the warm sheets for a few more lingering moments to the accompanying sound of water hitting his skin as he washed his hair. He'd sing a song in the morning, and she would have it stuck in her head all day, humming it in her own lower alto under her breath as she walked through the city to the university, lost in a quiet daydream that consisted solely of him.

Standing in front of the stage, the patchwork-disguised Hunter blinked back the memory as she watched the others get up on stage to stand under the soft pink glow that she had learned was relatively terrifying to Halloweentowners, her expression level as she watched Jerry get up on stage, his song startling her enough to earn him a slight quirk of her eyebrow (which was really just a clever way to hold back the slight curl of her lips as she attempted to not smile. As it was it took all of her focus not to when he started dancing to it, so much so she had had to turn away slightly as if in shame, hiding her eyes with one hand. Smiling must have been a crime to her or something.) But with his song finished, quickly followed by another girl she didn't know, she suddenly found herself on the stage that was far kinder to her fiance, a microphone curled in her fingers and her eyes facing a crowd of creatures that should have been trying to eat her alive.

Not for the first time, she wondered what she was doing here. Not just there on the stage, the song she had selected already starting to play in the background, despite her lack of accompaniment. Anywhere. In this festival of monsters, pretending to be one of them, her body the pieced-together remnants of other dead people. On the island, with the hunters, training to be a ruthless killer with a mace she felt eerily comfortable with. She shouldn't have been in any of those places, at all tangled in this terrifying, breathtaking adventure with a group of people whom she had become more close with in the past week than she had to nearly anyone in her entire life. She should have been on a farm, waiting tables to save up to go to the community college an hour away for a few hours to earn a degree that wouldn't take her past the county line, married a man she didn't love because of the limited choices in the small town, mothered a bunch of children and lived a life she didn't even resent, but passively accepted as the only thing she deserved.

...

Nearly. Closer to nearly anyone. There was... always him... wasn't there. Robert. He was always the answer, wasn't he... the sunshine that made every bearable... made the impossible, possible...

She would have followed him far further than the depths of hell.

That was how she got here. And it wasn't even the furthest she would go.

"Got me out here in the water so deep...
...tell me... how I'm gonna live out of the sea...
If I'm not there... I just can't breathe...
Swimming there without a care..."

Her voice picked up, slowly and softly at first, finding her place in the song and altering the words to try to fit the theme. She'd missed a lot of it -- it was already half over by that time. By the end of the song, however, it had quickly become apparent that she had given up trying to modify the lyrics to sound like a floresce. Clutching the microphone to her undead chest, she was clearly in a world by herself, eyes closed and singing louder and with more feeling than likely anyone had ever heard her speak, let alone sing. Despite the soft warmth of the spotlights and the eyes that should have been almost tangible on the stitched skin of someone self-conscious of her singing, Petra had forgotten all about the stage or the game or the egg she had wanted to win, face tilted up towards the light she was imagining to be sunshine.

"But somehow I'm still alive inside
You took my breath, but I survived
I don't know how, but I don't even care!

So how do you expect me
To live alone with just me?
'Cause the world revolves around you,
It's so hard for me to breathe..."

Vaguely, she remembered the original song had been a duet... oh well.

Oh.

She stopped even before the song had, her hetero-chromatic eyes sliding open as she realized where she was and what she was doing, ignoring how the song continued on in the background to finally end with a gentle hum. She'd forgotten why she was there... for that egg. The egg for Professor Aria. For the experiments. Petra went still, unmoving for a few breaths she didn't think she needed to take, considering the golem was dead, before lowering them, flicking them to the side a second later in an almost embarrassed gesture, although it didn't reach her expression. Almost as a half-thought, she noticed the score she had received, which in all honesty wasn't all that bad, considering she hadn't sang half the song. Still, it wasn't enough to guarantee her the purple egg she... admittedly thought was rather pretty, and actually desperately wanted. Setting the mic back on the stand, she reached up to run her fingers through the ends of her short silver hair idly.

There were a good few minutes of silence, seemingly for the judge to decide her fate. She didn't even think she was going to be given a response, actually, with how long it was taking, not at all feeling the awkwardness of the situation, although that might have been just a ruse. In fact, she had already begun to walk towards the stage before she even got a reply, her bare feet padding silently down the stares and off the stage before she felt the unnerving tickle of something against her shoulder, and she turned, the unexpected prize dropped into her hand.

"Thanks," she murmured under her breath, notably half-hearted despite the attempt at monotone, starting down the stairs again.

'That was a lovely song... bearing your soul to the monsters you wish to kill... how quaint. Be careful... people will think you have feelings.'

Ennéa scampered up to the booth just in time to catch the tail end of Jerry's performance. "Wooo! Yeaaaah!" she cheered and loudly clapped for her friend, totally oblivious to the fact that most of the other onlookers in the audience were staring at the prancing catgirl in dumbfounded silence.

She was still loudly applauding when Jerry's song ended and he bowed to the audience. Ennéa then eagerly looked around for the stairs to the stage. She wanted a turn too!

Unfortunately, there was a line of creatures before her. Darn it. She huffed a little in frustration but quickly got into the line, fidgeting with impatience as she waited.

But then she brightened when she spied the rest of her group. "Maddie! Jordan!" she called loudly and waved to her fellow hunters as they approached the booth. "Over here!"

And then it was their turn. Ennéa grabbed Jordan's arm with her left hand and pulled him onto stage with her. "C'mon!" she called over her shoulder to Madison.

She released Jordan and grabbed the mic in the center of the stage. "Let's sing!"

Ennéa closed her eyes and took a deep breath before belting out her song. She wasn't exactly on key but she made up for it with her enthusiasm.

Is this the rare fish?
Is this just fail-floresce?
Caught in a cycle,
No escape from the sushi dish
Open your eyes, Look into the bowl and seeeeeeeee~

Ennéa pulled the mic off the stand and cradled it in her hand, slowly pacing around the stage. She continued singing in a slightly lower tone.

I'm just a fish fan, I need no special seeds,

She leaned various ways with each phrase.

Because I'm easy trap,
easy net,
Little dry,
little wet,

She returned to the center of the stage.

Any way the fish swims doesn't really matter to me~
To me....

Ennéa quickly handed the microphone to Jerry with a wink, trusting her singing partner would keep the song going.

Wait... wait... wait that voice... AHAHAHAHAHA that was... Ennea?? He knew he had seen her earlier when they had convened, but even then it hadn't registered until just that moment. Well then. Still riding the thrill of his last song, he scrambled back up on stage beside the zombie, taking the microphone from him (her), and sobered his expression to sing out gently...

Mummy, just lost an egg,
Put a seed into the pot, dropped an egg like it was hot

After miming out the motion, he turned to dramatically grab the zombie's shirt, his voice wavering,

Mummy, game had just begun,
But now I've gone and thrown it all away

He turned, tossing a hand in front of his eyes forlornly,

Mummy~! ooh, Didn't mean to lose it all,
If I'm not back again with winning numbers,

He straightened, addressing hte audience directly with a pointing claw,

Try again, try again as if nothing really matters
Too late, my time is up,
Sends shivers down my spine, rolling dice now all the time
Goodbye, ev'rybody, I've got to roll,
Gotta get those fish and take them home with me
Mama, ooh, I just want floresce,
I sometimes wish I'd never seen one at all!

My GOD he loved Karaoke. Why didn't they have one of these at the facility? They NEEDED one.

Robert could hear the sounds of a guitar solo, followed by some striking piano chords. The music was coming closer even as he flew through the air, landing quite violently on the stage with a disturbing crunch of his lower half and a small crater in the stage where he'd landed. Sure, it hurt. Sure, he looked even shorter than he was a moment ago. But the show must always go on.

THE SHOW. MUST. ALWAYS. GO. ON.

"I see a little silhouetto of a fish,
Follyjox, Follyjox, will you do the Scarefari!
Gatchapon and bad luck, very, very sad luck!
(Cephalato) Cephalato (Cephalato) Cephalato, Cephalato figaro~
MagnificooOOOOOOOO.."

He would be dancing right now, except, you know. Half of his body just got shoved a few inches into the other half.

"I'm just a fish head nobody loves me
He's just a fish head from the Floresctival,
Spare him his life from this monstrosity!"

.. Snapping out of it, he realized the Phoenix Squad was on stage with him, which was almost too coincidental. It was as if someone had planned this all along.. he eyed Boss's detached head warily. Oh and look, there was Petra! Darling Petra, stuck in that weird a** body. Maybe she could accordian-pull him back to normal size.

Madison... actually knew the song, she realized. The tune, anyway, and most of the words... ugh, of course they had to make it match this weird-a** festival. She couldn't quite get a grip on the microphone - it was too tiny, damnit! - so when her turn came, she just belted it out, relying on the golem's more powerful vocal cords to provide the volume she needed.

"Easy net, easy flow, will you let me go?
My sushi! No, we will not let you go!"

Then, to her surprise, Kouki joined in, four part harmony-

Let him go!

"My sushi!! We will not let you go!"

Let him go!

"My sushi!! We will not let you go!"

Let us go!

"Will not let you go!"

Let us go!

"Will not let you go!"

Let us go!

"Ah! No! No, no, no, no, no, no!" Madison belted out the song, pointing at a different head in the audience for each 'no'.

Oh mummy mia, mummy mia!

"Mummy mia, let me go!
The cannon cats have a rare one put aside for me, for me, for meeeeeeee~"

Madison... well, it would have been awesomer headbanging if she'd had hair. As it was, it looked rather... er... spastic.

Still. Awesome. She ignored the non-Kouki voice in her head that was hissing nerrrrrrrrrrrrrrd at her. She also ignored the fact that nobody but her could hear her weapon, which meant her part of the song had weird gaps and pauses in it...

Jordan squawked with embarrassment, nearly dropping his head in surprise. Singing? Oh, god did Ennea really expect him to sing? Yes, apparently, she did. And one after the other, the rest of them were gleefully participating. It would be worse to be the wet blanket on the proceedings, especially with all this expectation built up, but ... singing?

Ferros was laughing himself sick, as much as an incorporeal being could do so.

When the mic was hande to him, Jordan somewhat reluctantly took it and sang. The first few notes were squeaked out of nervousness, but his voice then smoothed into a respectable singing voice, if not completely in tune.

So you think you can hook me and that would be fair
So you think you can click me and grow me to rare
Oh, baby, can't do this to me, baby,
Just gotta get out, just gotta get right outta here

It really was kind of entertaining, once he got into it.

Floresce really matters,
Anyone can see,
Floresce really matters,
Floresce really matters to me

A pause, properly timed. He glanced around at the rest of the group, motioning that they should join in on the last line.

Any way the fish swims ...

He put the mic back on its stand, looked out at the audience, and bowed. Might as well finish this off right.

Ennéa grinned and gave Jordan a quick impulsive hug before bowing with the rest of phoenix squad. That had been so much fun! Who cared that the audience didn't seem too particularly impressed.

Best mission ever. By far. Miles and miles above that zombie invasion plant monster attacking one.

The song could have gone better. Robert was sitting in his hole, being critical about the entire performance, especially his part, but it wasn't hard to see why he hadn't been doing his best.

His legs were buried just under his ribcage up to the knees. It was really hard to get a good breath for singing when you had legs tucked in your body.

"Seriously, guys? Somebody? Anyone?" He wasn't getting out of here on his own.

She'd done well! Madison beamed and waved at the crowd like a diva, bouncing on her tiptoes. It would have been the perfect teen idol ending if she hadn't been an eight foot tall skeleton.
