User ImageUser ImageStardust looks up at Skystain, shouting to be heard. "We should go. See if any need help. At the very least find a more secure location." Skystain shakes her head, ready to protest, when she catches a bright flash of color. She focuses on it, finding it to be a Kimeti colored in orange and cyan. A very far off Kimeti, seeing as how he or she appears to be foal sized. "Someone's over there. Doesn't look to be needing help but we'd be better in groups?" This last is a question, Skystain has never faced such a disaster and has no idea what the best action is.

Turning to look at Hunter, Spotted Fruit and Bruised Fruit, Skystain gives a quick order. "Follow me." and jumps into the water, letting them translate it as they see fit. The two mongooses scamper down the trunk then leap onto her back. Hunter leaps in after her. Then she and Stardust swim off, the mongoose he'd saved still perched on his head.

The trip is hard, going against the current was not the best idea. But the two fought their way with strong, sure, strokes. It seems to take ages. An eternity, even, bout couldn't have been anywhere near that long. Maybe an hour, at the very most. But finally the two are with in calling range.

By this time they can tell the orange on is a buck, and that he has a companion. "Hey!" Skystain shouts, her voice bellowing up from her barrel chest. Still to far away to make any kind of talk worth the effort, she had simply wanted to grab their attention.

With his dark mane plastered against his eyes, Crimson Tears could barely see where he was swimming. His legs thrashed powerfully in the flood, propelling him forward. He could feel his lungs burning from lack of proper oxygen flow, but he knew stopping to take a break would ultimately end in drowning. It was why he persevered at all costs – even if it meant exhausting himself to the point of no return.

As he continued to plunge through, he located a patch of dry land. Not wanting to lose the rare opportunity, he projected the last haul of his strength and wildly swam over until his hooves dug into the bank of the tiny island. Gasping, the weary buck attempted to gather the breath that had been taken from him.

Reflects Light chirped and ran down his guardian’s spine until he, too, stood on the dry patch. The mongoose shook out his fur and inclined his colorful head to the gray sky. Crimson observed the sky as well before casting a mournful glance at the swamp around them. He watched in horror as limp bodies floated past him, as well as the remnants of unborn sacs.

The Kimeti that would never be…the naming dreams that would never come…

As Crimson Tears took a step backwards, he bumped into something. In his haste to get to dry land, he hadn’t noticed another male already lying there. He very much acted before thinking.

Are you alright?!” he called, his voice drowned out by the rushing waters around them. He wasn’t sure if the buck was living or dead.

Take Flight battled the waters as he approached Peregrine. And at his side, he saw an eaglehound swimming by "Help..? Yes.. Yes.. I can't find my f-friend... I'm worried since he was I couldn't find him anymore once the flood had started... King, he's my pet crane." Take Flight looked around frantically, continuing to pump his legs to keep himself from sinking, he knew there was no time to be worried about King but King was his best friend. He couldn't just leave him behind.. What if he was stuck underneath a fallen tree somewhere? Or worse, had already drowned. "I have to find him.. I--.." Take Flight swam on, not too far from the buck, searching in places that King might have been but found nothing.

Wander grunted at the voice, slightly annoyed it had woken him up. How one was able to sleep through a flood, no one knew.

Slowly raising his head, his eyes caught sight of the other buck, and he let out a disinterested huff before he put his head back down. A buck. Whoop. What he wouldn't do for some doe crying out in distress, where he could woo her with his charms. But no, it was just some buck with scraggy hair.

I'm fine, he muttered, hoping the buck would leave him alone. "Shouldn't you be off saving all those other unfortunate kimeti?"

Peregrine grimaced at Take Flight's problem. The buck imagined a life without Triage, he shook his head to physically remove the image; it was nigh unbearable. Taking a deep breath, Peregrine relaxed, two frantic kimeti in a situation like this was suicidal. Swimming quickly, in order to move in front of Take Flight, he spoke calmingly to his fellow buck. "King can fly. You can't. It's best that we get to high ground and you can find him later. I understand not wanting to lose your friend, but this is not the place to launch a search." With that Peregrine turned and began swimming towards a safer locale.

Triage sensed Take Flight's emotional distress and brushed against him kindheartedly before catching up with Peregrine.

Be Mine was confused and frightened. When the rain had started she had curled up with Fall For You in the hollow of an old tree and had fallen into a deep sleep; only to be awakened by the Songbird’s frantic twittering some time later. She was lucky that she was far enough away from her brother, father and the other unfortunate Kimeti, as her little friends warning allowed the small foal to scramble up to the safety of a fallen tree that had fallen sideways against one of its living brethren. Be Mine had settled rather awkwardly in the spindly, dead branches and now watched, wide eyed as the powerful flood waters began surging past. She let out a small sound of distress as those caught were swept past and closed her eyes; hoping that tree she was in held strong. Oh, she prayed that Spring Time and Eternity were safe.

No birds had hung yet from her vine-sling, even if they had, they would surely be gone by now, washed away in the tide she could barely keep her head above. Part of her, naturally, was freaking the Holy Mother Swamp out over her feathers collection, home much further South, but however far South, the waters would reach it. It was probably already gone, years...years of careful work...it...

...It was abhorrent, she knew, to be grieving over her feather collection when others were dying in the flood.

And so she did not rush home (was there any point left to it? Oh!), but stayed Northwards; she had a stronger kick than most, thanks to her line of work, and the waters had slowed enough that she could move through them with relative ease. She had looked to help, but it seemed increasingly futile - the larger kiokote and kimeti barrelled past her dimunitive frame...and the foals...more than once or twice she had pushed out against the tide, only to find the bodies had already gone cold.

Was there life left in these unforgiving waves? She paddled quickly just to stay in place, but her anxiety had slowly bled away to be replaced by despair. Then she heard the twitter...looking up, she could glimpse between the dry boughs of of a dead, slanted trunk the beautiful gradient of an indigo bird...

...Oh Swampmother. It was even more abhorrent, she knew, to be coveting a bird's feathers when everything was dead in the flood.

Nevertheless, she paddled closer, entranced...it was then the tiny cry floated to her ears. A foal? Alive? With renewed urgency she kicked through the current and pulled herself onto the fallen tree, racing up the trunk to find...oh.

"Are you alright, little one?"

After a moment's paddling, it became apparent to Dark that their saviour was looking for something specific in the tide - or someone. Far in the distance she caught sight of a buck with the same bright eyes, afloat with a kiokote foal. More alive this far North, then? Her thoughts wandered to the kimeti whose shout she had heard far earlier - was he alive too?

She had always been a solitary traveller - save for Far, thankfully still keeping up beside her - but now she felt the intense need to be with others, the more the better. Hopefully they would reach the two in the water soon, then perhaps they would find land, and more survivors.

After a few moments of paddling frantically, Take Flight felt himself sinking as his legs started to tire so he began to swim slowly to catch his breath. Peregrine then caught up to him.

Hearing the buck's point stilled him. It was clear that Take flight wasn't any good in situations like this. King kept him level headed but without him by his side, Take Flight was such a mess. But the buck did make a point. Oh, Swampmother, please keep King safe. Out of breath from swimming, Take Flight nodded in submission and began to force his legs to continue.

The orange buck calmed down for a moment as the eaglehound brushed against his side to soothe him. Take Flight sighed, looking up at dark sky worriedly "King." and swam on.

Saving…? The thought crossed Crimson Tears’ mind, but he considered himself far too weak and fatigued at the moment to save anyone; he didn’t want to put other lives in danger. He would rather drown himself than risk being responsible for the life of another. Therefore, he shook his head.

I can’t… I’m too weak,” he replied honestly. If that made him a bad Kimeti, then so be it. He wouldn’t be able to stand himself if he failed to rescue someone.

Beside him, Reflects Light hissed at the other buck and arched. Crimson calmed the mongoose and then gazed to the north, watching as the once peaceful swamp became dangerous rapids. What had they done to deserve this punishment? It was unreal. Was this, perhaps, their fate? To be eliminated in order for new life to begin? There was something very poetic about that…

Are you going to stay here?” he asked, looking at the mostly blue male.

She was frightened and chilled, and hadn't seen anyone for some time. If she remained, there was no telling when she'd find someone else, or if she'd even survive this horrible ordeal. Determined not to lose her life because of fear, Opal gathered up her courage and leapt back into the water, paddling along as best she could through the swamp.

Though she kept her eyes ahead of her, all too soon, she found herself almost forced to look around and see the damage caused by the flood, the way the trees bent or broke, the corpses that occasionally floated by. The very sight of them made her shudder, and she whimpered a little, going forward and praying to the Motherfather that she was headed toward others and hope, and not away from them. But the more she pushed forward, the more tired she became, and there seemed to be no end in sight. As she tried, she found despair beginning to creep past her determination, and her tears added minute liquid to the water she swam through.

Although unafraid, Unblinking Eyes relented to Life's gesture. She sat close to the colt as the pretty doe began to clean her--she hadn't noticed any of the debris clinging to her face--listening to the gentle song. And yet her eyes strayed past to stare out at the ocean of a flood that had forced their lives into the tall trees. She wondered about her family though. She hadn't seen any of them...

Peregrine sighed quietly; it seemed Take Flight was beyond reason, but one more glimpse of losing Triage brought things into perspective. Shaking his head, he cursed himself for acting against his better judgement. The buck diverged from his beeline for higher ground and began to look about for Take Flight's missing crane companion. The water kept on surging past, and it made Peregrine grimace. "Triage find the crane," he called. Peregrine had taken great care to assure that Triage knew each species by name.

Triage was bobbing around in the water, he wasn't the best swimmer, but he fared well enough especially under these conditions. The eaglehound jumped in surprise as he heard his master's voice. After listening, he willingly complied. Searching in every possible place throughly, it was evident Triage is quite the hunter.

Without Warning was used to baiting death, stepping into the alligator’s mouth, so to speak, but that feeling of adrenaline pumping through her veins and pushing her faster was indescribably addictive. Not that Warning cares to describe it – she’s not a wordy doe.

She rides the waves, deftly figuring out how to move her body and the tree to prevent any more sudden stops and pansy passengers. When more excited yells joined her own, Warning couldn’t resist grinning over at the other doe. “Not so scary now, is it?” she shouted, not even caring about the answer as the wind tore her words away. The log bounced after hitting a debris buildup, jolting the does and small creatures.

Passing by what seemed to be a group of kimeti and kiokote (sticks in the mud, just floating – no fun at all), Warning could say she wasn’t too surprised that the other kimeti’s mother would be with them. Sticks in the mud just needed a good push to get them moving. “You’ll have something fun to tell her, then!” she laughed. She was permanently laughing now, just breathless exclamations of joy – she was queen of the world!

They were heading straight for a group, swimming frantically. Truly, deep down, Without Warning could say it was the sight of a little foal with the group that had her slamming – for lack of a better word – her body to the side, sending the tree to the side and narrowly avoiding the group. Of course, the tree didn’t stop with just one movement, caught in some odd current, and kept spinning. Whirlpool would have been the obvious answer, except that the tree was still barreling towards its end point – trees and various colors blurring past.

In the end, the revolving tree just made it all the more fun. The doe balanced herself better and screeched, “Hold on tight!” laughter bubbling in her shout.

Your mother will be fine, and when this chaos has settled a bit we shall set off to find her,” Alder rumbled, setting his head on top of the colt’s between his legs. “And she’ll be even happier with you being safe, away from the water and with kimeti who care.”

It warmed his heart as Life nudged the foals away, and Alder gently nudged Whistles Twice over to her. It was as much of a comfort to the doe as it would be to the two foals, but Alder shifted towards the small group, determined to make sure that he would be close should something happen. He would rather not think that Whistles Twice thought he was shoving the little colt off on someone as quickly as possible.

His golden eyes constantly move between those on their little raft and the waters, watching for signs of distress.
