"In fact," Makani continued, despite the rising blush he could feel in his cheeks, "would you do me the great honor of becoming my...my-," Makani hesitated. It was hard to find the proper words he wanted. Mate just seemed crude and far too assuming, given they'd only just met today! A half dozen words flitted through his mind, discarding for similar reasons of being crude or seeming demeaning.
For once, unable to come up with anything really flowerly or any title that fit right, he just settle for his usual bluntness, "my held highly in esteem partner and by far the most agreeable person I have yet to come across in these barbaric lands?"

Violet watched Makani as his face contorted into a deep set frown. She hoped she cringed hoping to not hear Makani reject her. Never before had she risked her heart to be so open and even gone as far as to state her emotions. She listened quietly anyway to what she assumed was impending doom. A small gasp escaped her when Makani mentioned the idea of her being called his lover. It was far more then she had expected. She personally didn’t care what other foxes called her, still her stomach flip flopped in joy and wonder at Makani’s chivalry to look out for her reputation. “You are very kind.” She giggled at his long winded title for her figuring that perhaps this was his way of asking her to go with him and perhaps start dating. “I would be very thrilled to be your agreeable partner held in high esteem in these barbaric lands.” She was actually looking forward to being by Makani’s side, as long as he let her.

Makani blushed, looking both bashful and pleased at the same time. He leaned over to lightly nuzzle Violet, smiling. "I think the storm's finally passed," he said, for anything else about the situation at hand wouldn't have been adequate enough to describe how happy he felt in that moment.
And indeed, the storm had moved on. Powered by the high winds, there was only damp earth and distant rumbles of thunder in the distance. Makani walked forward a few paces, then turned to look over his shoulder and smile invitingly at Violet.
Together the couple vanished deeper into the forest. It wasn't quite "sunset and romantic", but any who saw they couldn't deny how good they looked together.
