Yeah, that's fine. I'm 50, will be 51 this summer.
It's not really a secret but I don't flout it. I say I'm a grandfather on my profile so no one can accuse me of trying to trick little kids or some crap like that.
It is good that teens are made aware and all but it is sort of gone too far. Some seem to assume any older person online is some sort of perv. As an example - I'll give you an interesting observation. On OMGPOP my profile pic was me. An okay pic but obviously a middle aged man. A lot of people would join my games and leave them. A couple even commented that I 'look like a perv'. I changed my profile pic to a picture I took of a tree frog. People started staying in my games and no more rude comments. My game play did not change, only their perception of who was at the other end.
Sometimes it amuses me to think of all these little tweeners growing up with electronics and then one day getting old enough the next generation thinks they are weird for still wanting to use them. I think it will be a rude awakening for many of them.
smile There are actually a lot of older Gaians. Not the majority for sure but many more than some kids think. There are guilds like Over 30 and Gaian where - as the name implies - you have to be over 30 to join. I mostly hang out with older folks on Gaia or teens who have at least a modicum of maturity.
Wow, that's awesome. Did you end up getting a 50th party? As I said, you certainly seem much younger, so take that as a compliment.
I'm not a member anywhere else, meaning other sites, except for myspace, which was ages ago. Haven't been on there for about 2 years, and that's about it for me.
But, I can see why people would think other people are pervs, because in this day and age, that's how they see things, regardless of how innocent a person might look. It's really stupid to be honest, because these days you gotta be careful with what you say and do online.
I had a friend who posted their picture on a site, if only I can remember which one. But he looked so much like someone else, that was a child molester, and so my friend being the innocent, went through lawyers and lots of money later to prove to the world, that he isn't that same guy, even though they looked similar. Eventually they did catch the right guy though
and apologized to my friend. . But the whole thing was stupid.
I'll have to one day check out that place where there's older Gaians.
