Leverne flinched slightly at the touch of the oath. He took a step backwards.

"I need be going," he said evenly, "I thank you, Weaver, for your intervention."

And he bowed to Sain before turning and hurrying away, back towards the knights. Sain watched him go for a moment.

"You should get out of here as well," Sain commented quietly, "The fae will recognize my craftmanship and not touch you, but I can't say the same for the Knights. I doubt they'll pursue you. It's just best not to give them an easy opportunity right now. The remnants of Kocerou's army have scattered - those that haven't just surrendered, that is. Follow them if you will or go your own way."

He shrugged.

"There's going to be consequences to this," he sighed, "I can only hope that Kocerou keeps his temper under control and doesn't get himself killed while exiled among the mortals. That'd be a disaster. Good luck to both of you."

And Sain was gone. Just... gone.

Astalder and Blade

After glancing to Leverne as he took his leave, the pair turned back towards Sain, listening. Yes. Laying low for a little while seemed like a good idea about now. The only knight that might have seen their face was likely dead now, but they didn't want to push their luck.

"There would have been consequences either way," Blade frowned. Nodding to Sain, he soon found himself staring at empty space.

Then, the two took to the skies once more. For now, they'd go on their own way. Though perhaps in the near future, they'd try to seek out the exiled Prince to see how he was faring.

----
Ares

Over the past few days, Ares had been STOKED to find this treasure. The prospect of having a new playmate also sounded pretty awesome as far as he was concerned.

When they came upon the group of strange afflicted trees, the dragon circled around to try and get a good look at them.

"They've got gold inside! Is this the treasure then? I didn't know trees could grow gold," he remarked while getting up onto his hind legs to place his foreclaws onto the trunk of one, "OH! I know. Can we build a tree house in these? Magical gold growing treehouse! Do you know how awesome that would be?"

When Leverne reached the Dragon Knights that had managed to regroup post-battle, the leading pair that he looked for were not to found - not that there were many left to search through. Their already small numbers were decimated by death and injuries, only one or two sustaining minor injuries alone ignoring the healers. Asking amidst them revealed the last anyone had heard from either dragon Tumlar or bound Bantone was the pair had not come back after moving to intervene with another dragon in the air.

Tracing the leaking magic of the oaths took him out to the very center of battlefront, or at least where it used to be, travel hampered by the bodies dead and wounded scattered about as well as the ruined remains of plant growth that had been used to hamper the Prince's troop movement. The air here was heavy with the smell of fluids, charred flesh and vine still fresh.

Coals still warm beneath his feet, Leverne found the dragon half curled up where he had landed, much of his armor black from fire, skin blistered and welted where it had only touched the first layer, much more of him burned far past that, the metal of armor almost melded with bloody skin. Getting closer revealed nothing better. Wheezing and gurgling with every lift of the dragon's side only joined the chorus of groans made by those fae still on the field.

Leverne hissed when he found the dragon. He moved closer, carrying the sword with both hands, point angled towards the ground. The champion stopped just beside the dragon's head, staring down at it with no expression on his face.

"There are limits to our magic," he said quietly, "This is beyond us."

And he held the sword up, for just one moment, before driving it down and into the neck of the prone dragon, where the artery was.

Erimett
"It is a treasure beyond imagine," Erimett said. Better than what he had been hoping for. "First, growing dragon, we need to protect our new-found treasure from others who would take it from us. We would not want anyone stealing what we so rightfully have found. We could not even try to make your house in a tree if someone takes these lovely things away." The mage began to pace a circle around the trees, feeling out the magic that they gave off. "I will have to set some wards to keep others from finding these until we know more about them. After studying them more, maybe we will even be able to move them."

Or better yet, discover if they would bear fruit and viable seed. An accessible, renewable source of something Blessed touched that he could control. The possibilities were endless as to what could be done from there. He would just need to take care. The access could very well be two-fold: what he could reach could very well reach him.

This would take care to handle indeed.

Ares
Pushing away from the tree to stand firmly on the ground once more, Ares's tail began to sway happily behind him. It paused though, as he realized that yes, they would need to protect their treasure.

"I will rip apart anyone that tries! I guess this is a good way to gain some short term playmates though now that I think about it. I like this idea already!"

He puffed up proudly, before looking back at the magical tree-thing.

"This calls for a new color. GOLD! Just like the treasure."

Just out of curiosity, he moved closer to the tree once more and tried to lick one of the gold veins. See what it tasted like.

Leverne hissed when he found the dragon. He moved closer, carrying the sword with both hands, point angled towards the ground. The champion stopped just beside the dragon's head, staring down at it with no expression on his face.

When he drew closer, the stench of roasted meat grew, but he soon saw why the dragon was oddly positioned as it was. Beneath flayed tail and injured limbs rested the remains of his human bound, dead but unburned, the dragon having taken most of the heat that must have come afterwards at some point. Protective even after what befell them. From where Leverne stood, he could not see Bantone's face, but was certain from the blood on the ground and the shape of his neck, that there was no need to. The oath upon the sword the Silver Rose champion carried with him was unraveling quickly.

"There are limits to our magic," he said quietly, "This is beyond us."

Tumlar barely shifted his head toward the sound, an eye unseen behind a helm cracked in half and splintered at the edges, the other eye swollen where it peeked out. After effort to look, he let the weight of his head tilt back toward the ground to rest, a large gaspy breath given in exhale followed.

'Champion, send the sword... back to Lierce.'

There was not even enough in him to try anything vocally any more. There might have been some sort of ironic laugh after those words, but instead it came as a wracking cough, the cracking of bones clamored with metal plates making for a more ghostly sound. Tumlar settled again, looking at the twisted form of Bantone one last time.

Wait for me. I'm coming.

He closed his eyes.

And he held the sword up, for just one moment, before driving it down and into the neck of the prone dragon, where the artery was.

The body of the dragon twitched but quickly gave up what little it still held, leaving nothing behind but a the carcass of a simple dragon wrapped around his bound.

Dragon Knight Itan
Standing Commander and bound of dragon Bayard
Final Report - Classified

The Outcome: The feud between the royal members of the Silver Rose Court has ended. Prince Kocerou has been banished from the fae territories until further notice by the King with execution upon any sort of attempt at an early return. He is to be attended by the Silver Rose's champion, the fae Leverne. There are no other possible heirs at this time and thus the Silver Rose Court cannot afford to eliminate Prince Kocerou without dire consequences in the future.

Exceptional Notes: There was a brief appearance by the one named Sain, the white haired caster of the Blessed Path. Word from the fae is he was required to step in to contain the final fight between the Prince and King. Apparently both had begun to tap into Blessed magic during the duel.

Squad Status: Our returning numbers are few. Nearly half the squad of ten fighting pairs have fallen including Commander Tumlar and Bantone, most having died on the battlefield. All fallen Knights that could be found were tended to and a ceremony was held for them and those that could not be found before moving to regroup at the outpost.

One knight pair did not survive to make the return trip to the outpost, the dragon succumbing to injury and blood loss. We watched as another of our dragon's lost their bound, succumbing to sepsis a few nights later. (The dragon has taken a new bound with the candidate we brought with us.) Moral was low when we departed from the fae troops, despite the mission's success, and plummeted as we continued on. Both the latter deaths mentioned were drawn out, the first being particularly rough on the men as they watched Human Knight Alond chose the drought before his dragon could pass.

Injuries were high from the battle with none escaping unscarred aside from the healer team with the most minor of injuries befalling two fortunate Knight bounds. At least one dragon is no longer fit for active duty, another has a bound with injuries that makes it questionable pending rehabilitation. The others in due time could become active again, though I highly recommend leave time for those who are not confined to the infirmary upon this our return.

Gen'yiel - One month later

The formal letter sat in the Head Commander Hammand's hands, additional pages only containing further details of the squad's activities, lists of those deceased, an injury list, as well as recommendations. On his desk rested the blade of the former commander of the squad, an irony in itself as Tumlar and Bantone were horrible about keeping track of their weapons, and yet in this one case the weapon made it home where as its owners did not.

Before his desk stood Standing Commander Itan who had just delivered the papers and had stood patiently waiting to be called upon or dismissed.

Toft kept to the base of the trees just in thought, and in awe perhaps by the calamity of destruction of this all. Something Toft then realize about himself, he disliked not being involved and always had. Toft then slowly turned and headed back to the Fea lands he came from. 'Perhaps that's what happen? And maybe only the start?' as he thought of his previous existence, being careful not to be noticed.

Sleep did not quite come easy for Ares after having licked that tree. Strange dreams invaded his mind. These ranged from trippy colorful bursts of lights to something a little more easily described. Something about all posts and the guild being deleted or erased, or something to that effect. Either that or it was of a strange mechanical box dropping to the ground, shattering glass before everything goes black.

Regardless, they kind of bothered him quite a bit. And thus he tried to tell the mage of what went on in these odd nightmares of the world being undone.

Hammand set the letter down, rubbing at his forehead as he did so. It sat next to another letter, the seal broken, that had arrived the night before. He simply found it by his bedside, after starting awake from a particularly vivid nightmare. That, combined with the details in Itan's report, convinced him that this dream was not merely a bad dream, but a retelling of the final moments of his slain knights. It had haunted him that morning and it haunted him now, as he regarded the sword that sat before him.

"No one else shall carry this sword," Hammand said, running his hand along the sheath, "It shall be entombed in honor, among the other weapons that have been deemed sacred to our Order. It has seen enough of war."

He did not say that he did not fully trust Leverne to not have done something to it before returning it. While he trusted the Champion - somewhat - he had no desire to reissue a potentially enchanted weapon unknowingly. The Bound paused for a moment, listening to Lierce's thoughts on the matter as well.

"The rest of your squad is to report to Master Lierce," he said, "They'll be given a few days rest and then put on an assignment that will hopefully serve to restore moral - Lierce will find something. Also, if you would, quietly communicate to them that we have been contacted by the Queen of the Silver Rose. Our aid to them will not be forgotten and as such, we need no longer protect our southern territories so long as her and her husband hold the Crown. 'We shall have a merry time of it,' she wrote, 'and the stories of the dark fae that hunt in the night and pull travelers off into the shadows shall abound, and none will be the wiser that these victims are in truth enemies of our dragon allies.' She also insinuated that we could even keep this protection, once Kocerou ascends, if we protect him well enough while he wanders our lands. That's something for Lierce and I to worry about, however. You've done enough and you've performed your duty well, Itan. Consider this company your official troop now - Commander. Nothing is harder than leading a flight home with such injuries."

He paused. There was one last matter to attend to and he found that Lierce was in full agreement.

"Inform Squire Warden and his Bound that they are to stand vigil for the next twenty-four hours at the summit of Gen'yiel. They will be knighted once this is accomplished. That is all. You are dismissed."

"Thank you, sir." Itan bowed while standing before the desk, holding his helmet in the crook of his arm before turning to leave. With the report now made and the sword now passed on, it was time to debrief the others. When the sword was prepared, he would head to the hall of honor and preform the rites required of him.

Once outside the door, he silently conversed with his partner Cerar while maneuvering the halls. Being back within Gen'yiel's stone was comforting as neither dragon nor bound had banked on a return trip. Regardless of injury, had the reigning Silver Rose been defeated, the small knight contingency would had been forfeit pending the former commander's willingness to solely claim any charges that might come. Itan knew he would have done the same if he had been in Bantone's place. But he had not been, and Bantone and Tumlar were not with them anymore.

He and Cerar would just have to do their best in their place.

By the time he had reached the dormitory and housing quarters, Cerar had discretely passed along what knowledge had been given to them all from the fae Queen's letter and that those able were to report to Master Lierce in an hour's time, all except the one young pair that he was off to see now. He instead had Cerar let them know he was coming to see them in person.

It was shortly before reaching his destination that Dragon Knight Cerar caught up with his bound. Upon arrival, Itan announced their presence before pushing aside the curtain, coming to a stop before the squire pair. "Squire Warden. Squire Jace," Itan started with a nod to both dragon and bound, "find yourselves a meal and gear up. You'll be taking the Summit Watch. Afterwards you will report back to me. We will be receiving new orders from Master Lierce in the meantime which I will inform you of upon your return." A soft smile broke out on the scruffy knight's face, and a larger draconic toothy one hung in the space behind him. "Congratulations you two."

Recovery from the battle didn't go too badly for Warden, especially considering others had it worse as far as their injuries went. They were going to go report to Lierce, but then received word that Master Cerar and Itan were coming to see them personally. Neither dragon nor bound really knew what to expect out of this.

When the pair came by, they stood at attention while waiting to hear what Cerar had to say.

The last comment, though, caught Jace a little off guard.

"Yes sir. But.. if I might ask... what exactly are you congratulating us for?" he asked. There were a few different possibilities for that. Taking the summit watch didn't quite seem to be one of them.

"The Summit Watch? You're taking the twenty-four hour watch at the peak of Gen'yiel. The last badge of being a squire and the first to becoming a full Dragon-Knight," Cerar said with an assuring nod. He turned his big head toward his bound and spoke, "I suppose it is not talked up as it once used to be with as many squires as we have now in training. I remember when we needed volunteers or resort to drawing straws for who would have to take on more than one."

"Cerar!" Itan admonished, quickly looking back and forth between his dragon and the younger two.

"It's the truth," Cerar snorted. "When I was just accepted, there was a rash of dragon hunters roaming the Border. Skilled. The Fallen and their allies wouldn't have any of it and towns burned. There were many a good young dragon that wanted to join that year - and a many more turned away or let go because the did not have the right mindset." Cerar turned his attention back on the squire pair. "But now we need all those we can get, ones who have proven their mettle. So go, eat quickly and eat full. You pair have a long watch ahead of you."

Itan stood tall as he watched them. "When your watch is done, as part of our squad, we'll see to it that we get you both measured for the right size armor set, tabards, and clothes the first time. And as said before, we'll brief you on what Master Lierce gives us for orders in the meantime."
