As Alex continued to rip the guards apart, noticing the one behind him as he tore the guards to shreds, he heard a scream as Rae began to tear into the guards herself. He watched her and absentmindedly killed everything in his path, but froze when she was shot. Alex stood still and watched as she sank to her knees, then, something snapped inside him, something dark and angry made its way to the surface. He cracked his neck and his eyes faded from their normal ruby red, to a darkened, empty black. He hunched over, a loud cracking noise coming from his back, he fell to his knees and the cracking got louder; he looked up from the ground and smiled, his eyes completely black, and his fangs extended. The loud cracking sound ceased, but only for an instant before shadows literally ripped out of his back, covering the entire warehouse in darkness, all except for Rae.
The shadows stuck to the ground, almost gluing the rest of the guards to the floor. The shadows stopped spilling from Alex's back, and he stood up straight, looking around, his eyes still blackened, and he stretched his arms out, on either side of him. As he did this, there was a loud hissing sound and six snake-like appendages emerged from his back and hands formed on the end of them. He chuckled loudly as he began to slowly walk to each and every guard in the building, who had their arms pinned to their sides by shadows, and he tore them apart. As he did this his chuckle once again grew into a deranged laugh, he walked the entire warehouse killing everything that breathed.
Alex walked over to the man sitting in the chair, who looked up at him with a relieved yet scared expression on his face and said, "Oh thank god you're here! I thought I was going to die! I swear to god I gave them nothing!" Alex smiled at the man and said, "There's only one way to be sure of that." Alex leaned over and bit into thew man's neck, drinking his blood and gaining all he knew, the man, however, died in the process. Standing up straight and wiping the blood from his face and saying, more to himself than anything, "Huh, he was telling the truth, he told them nothing."

Rae fell to her knees, gasping as the silver ripped through her skin. It was a clean shot - through and through - and missed all of her major organs. It hurt like hell, but she'd live. Rae looked up for Alex to make sure he was alright. She saw him hunched over, his usual ruby red eyes completely black. Alex fell to his knees as a loud cracking noise started. Rae was about to call out to him when the room went pitch black. A terrible kind of blackness even her vampire eyes couldn't see through.
There seemed to be a spotlight around her, big enough that were she to reach out, her fingertips would stop just short of the darkness. Rae did call out to Alex when the hissing started. "Alex!" she yelled for him, panicking, the bullet hole in her side screaming as she struggled to her feet. "Alex!" she called out to him again, but her screams were lost in the sound of Alex's demented laughter. At the sound of his voice, she knew he was alive, and that was all it took for her resolve to give out as she sank to her knees once more, doubled over in pain.
She turned her head to the side, so that her cheek was pressed against the cold floor, her face turned toward the sound of Alex's voice. Rae had to close her eyes as Alex "interrogated" their witness. She knew the man was dead when she heard Alex speaking to himself. Rae wondered briefly who the man was, and whether nor not he had a family. "What was that?" she wondered."How did he do that? That can't be standard issue vampire powers...It looked like black magic..." Rae had to fight the urge to be sick. She never killed anything tied down. Any time she killed something or someone, they were at an equal advantage. To her, killing something tied down would be like killing an unarmed man, and that was something she would never do. She was sure, though that Alex would explain everything.
"Alex?" she called out, as the room returned to it's semi-dark state, her vampire sight returning. She could make him out in the distance, beside the man who died tied to the chair. Blood seeped through her fingers as she tried to put pressure on her wound. She was a little intimidated by the sight of him, his eyes still that terrible dull black.

Alex looked over towards Rae, his eyes fading back to their normal ruby red, and the snake-like appendages retracted back into his body. He suddenly remembered that she had been shot and ran over to her. He knelt beside her, oblivious to the carnage and destruction he had just caused, and said, "Rae, are you alright? You've been shot... it looks like the silver passed right through... thank god." He hugged her close with one hand, placing another over her wound and using magic to heal it. He looked around at the room, and saw the devastation he just caused, and froze. Still holding Rae he spoke softly, "I'm sorry you had to see that... It's not very... pleasant. I can explain everything when we get back to my apartment... for now, let's just report the mission a success and have you see Alaric." Alex didn't want Rae to have ever seen that, but he couldn't change that now. Making sure she was okay, he looked back at her, stood, and teleported the two of them outside Alaric's office.
He waited a few moments and then entered, with Rae right behind him and approached his grandfather. He paused in front of the desk and said, "The Mission was a success, the insider gave them nothing, but he died during the information retrieval process." Alaric merely nodded and stared at Rae, appraising her, he sighed and asked, "How far have her powers progressed? I assume you've at least taught her phasing and the coffin ritual." Alex nodded at Alaric in affirmation and said, "She's almost mastered phasing, she has chosen a coffin, along with the soil ritual, and she has begun her training in conjuring. Grandfather, she has more potential than even I could have thought, I predict she will finish the majority of her training within the week." Alex waited for his grandfather's reaction, which was a small nod. He gestured towards the door, telling them to leave, which Alex did. Once outside Alaric's office, Alex teleported the two of them back to his apartment where he sat on the bed and waited for Rae to ask her questions.

Rae allowed Alex to help her up of the floor, and she held onto him gently as he brought them to HQ. Rae stayed just a little behind Alex during their meeting with Alaric, refusing to look cowed or downcast in anyway. She refused to let him make her squirm. Although Rae did not care for being referred to simply as "she", and made a promise she was going to take it up with Alaric someday, when she had mastered her new powers. Rae stayed quiet through the brief meeting.
When they reached Alex's apartment, Rae ran her fingers through her hair and took a deep breath, trying to get her thoughts in order. She had so many questions, she didn't know which one to ask first. In the end, she decided to go with the most obvious. "What....what was that, Alex?" Rae looked at him, trying to stay calm and keep her face neutral. This was the man she loved, and nothing could ever change that, but she needed to understand what that was, and what could drive him to do such a terrible thing. He hadn't even reacted that way when she'd almost died...Rae took a deep breath and looked into his eyes as she waited for his response.

Alex sighed and looked at Rae, her emerald eyes reflecting his ruby ones. He didn't want to ever speak of this again, but he would have to, he wasn't going to lie to Rae, not to her. He sighed again and spoke, lowly and quietly, "About a hundred years ago... I killed a demon lord, I was working with the organization... When I killed him, he muttered some magic spell and he... he transferred a piece of his soul onto mine... I took a break from the organization, trying to deal with what happened. The demon lord's soul was slowly corrupting my own... I managed to remove his soul after a long period of time, about sixty five years. I went back to the organization, and they set me up with a partner... a vampire. She was... volatile... she didn't take the job for any noble reason. She just wanted to kill things... She was a heartless monster, but that didn't mean she wasn't a valuable ally." Alex stood and walked past Rae, looking out the window into the dark night for a long while.
He turned back to Rae and continued with a sigh, "We were... on a mission... she was injured and I... snapped... Much like what you saw back there. She... died... to be more specific... I killed her." I took another few years off to deal with that, and when I came back... about six years ago, well I worked alone for three years and then... I met you. And we both know how that turned out." He wrapped an arm around Rae, stared at her for a long while before saying, "I managed to remove the demon lord's soul... but the immense power he gave me remained... along with the inability to control it." Alex let go of her and sat down on the bed, looking up at her sadly. He looked away from her and said, "I don't know Rae... maybe... maybe we shouldn't be together... I don't... I don't wanna see you hurt... I don't know what I would do if you..." Tears welled up in Alex's eyes, he closed them tightly trying to stop them from flowing down his cheeks; it didn't work. Tears of blood ran slowly down his face, he didn't want to look at Rae, he didn't want to hurt her, or see her hurt, but maybe it was for the best.

Rae watched Alex intently as he told his story. "That must have been so hard..." she thought. Just then it struck her how much she didn't know about Alex. All those years of his history she'd never known, never asked about...she suddenly felt like a terrible partner. As business partners, it had been their job to watch each others' backs to make sure no one's knife found a way in, but as Alex's life partner? Rae felt like she had failed miserably.
”Alex....” she murmured, catching his cheek in her palm, gently kissing his tears away. ”Thank you, for being honest with me. I trust you with my life, and I know without a doubt you'd never do anything to hurt me.” She kissed him softly, willing him to open his eyes so she could look into them, and show him she was sincere. “In case you hadn't noticed, I was the one person the blackness didn't cover, remember?”
Rae's arms went around him as she held him close, pressing her face to his chest. “There is nothing, nothing you could ever tell me that would make me love you any less than I already do. I want you to be able to tell me anything, Alex. We'll live a long life together, and I don't want to keep secrets. Your past matters Alex, but only because it's made you who you are, and without it, you wouldn't be the man I love. It's your future I'm interested in, your future I want to be a part of, share, together. I love you, Alex. Forever and always.”

Alex felt his spirits lifted as Rae tried to comfort him. He looked up at her, with a genuinely happy smile on his face. He sighed happily and thought to himself, "She really does love me, no matter what happens, or what I am... She's right, the blackness didn't cover her... she's the one." He wrapped an arm around her when she held him close, running the other through her hair. He smiled at her as he spoke, softly, "Rae... I love you too... Without you.. my immortal existence would be pointless... I have already lived a long life, and I want you to know that even for a vampire, four hundred years is a long time... I have met so many people, done so many things... All of it, all four hundred and four years before I met you... are nothing compared to the mere three years that I've known you." Alex sighed again and stood up, bringing Rae up with him. He looked down at her, he wanted her to see how much she meant to him, his love for her was unfathomable. He walked the two of them to his coffin and let go of her before opening it and laying down inside it. He looked up at her and said, "I want to show you something. Vampires have near perfect memories. Our magic lets us project our memories onto the insides of our coffins. It's like watching a movie. Tell me... do you remember when we first met, and our first assignment?" He extended a hand out to her, asking her to join him in his, no, their coffin.

Rae would never forget the first time they met, and their first mission together. She didn't know it then, but that day would be the start of the rest of her life. She remembered when the Organization found her, she had just beaten an opponent, and had earned enough money for a hot dinner. She had been sitting in a diner when an old man came up to her and asked to sit down. He had been wearing a nice suit, and she eyed him wearily, nodding her head once.
Rae didn't stop eating - this might be the only hot meal she had this month - and she wasn't about to let it go cold. She gestured for the old man to start speaking. Rae had chosen a booth near the back, with a cushion of empty booths surrounding them. Even still, the old man lowered his voice to a pitch meant for only her ears. He told her he worked for an Organization that worked to round up rogue supernaturals to keep humans safe. Rae continued to watch him, keeping silent, trying to determine if he was just looking to lure her somewhere or not. His sanity didn't matter, Rae was fairly certain she could outrun him if need be, and she knew this city like the back of her hand. The old man offered food, shelter, training, her own apartment, even, if she agreed to join them. The old man looked into her eyes, making sure he had her full attention, and said "We know about Jason."
Rae stopped eating, and pushed her plate away, having finished with it. "And you stop people...things, like him?" she asked. When she received a slow nod from the old man, Rae stood up, held out a hand for him to shake, and said "Where do I sign?" The look of surprise on the man's face told her he hadn't thought it would be that easy to convince her. "I'll still be wanting all that you've promised, and monetary compensation." She added as an after thought. The old man nodded and waved a hand dismissively.
"You'll be working with a partner -" The old man started. "The hell I will." Rae protested "I work alone. I don't trust anyone to watch my back better than me." Rae jutted her chin out stubbornly. Normally, the old man wouldn't even consider hiring a 17 year old girl, but she showed enormous potential and aptitude, and, they didn't have to spend the time convincing her supernaturals existed. She had already learned that for herself, through her now dead vampire ex boyfriend. Rae had managed to get herself out of that situation alive, which is what caught the interest of the Organization. Not many humans came out of an up close and personal confrontation with a vampire alive.
"It's procedure, Rachelle. Our human agents need a partner. You succeeded against one vampire alone, but if you were attacked by a group, you'd surely be killed." The old man fixed Rae with a level stare, which she returned. "Two conditions." she crossed her arms over her chest. "One, I get to pick my partner. Train with them for a bit first. Make sure they can keep up with me. And two, my name is Rae." The old man nodded slightly and stood. "My name is Alaric, and I'm the head of the Organization. You will report to me. If you'd follow me now, I'd like to get started." Rae took his pro-offered arm, and had to stifle a yell as she was suddenly dropped into nothingness, her stomach heaving, and stumbled slightly as she ended up in a fancy office. Rae just barely made it to the garbage can and lost her hot meal. "So much for that..." Rae thought as she stood up and looked around.
Alaric offered her a breath mint. "My apologies. Teleporting is difficult for some. Your potential partner will be here shortly."Alaric straightened papers on his desk as Rae waited nervously for the heavy wooden doors to open and expose the person she may be working with.

Alex sighed as he walked through the hallways, he wasn't sure if he was ready to be back with a partner, it had only been a few years since he returned to the organization, and the memory of what happened to his old partner was still fresh in his mind. As he walked, he looked his appearance over in the reflective glass windows. His black suit was impeccable, his black dress shirt accented by a blood red tie. He had shined his shoes to an impeccable mirror surface, he had slicked his hair back so none fell in front of his face, and his sunglasses were low on his nose, his ruby red eyes glistening with the lights in the hallway. He walked towards the office, his shoes not making a sound on the floor, and he smiled lightly, the anticipation was killing him. He wondered what his new partner would be like, whether they would be useful, and whether they would better than his last partner.
He made it to Alaric's office and sopped outside the door. He knocked three times and opened the door. Walking inside he nodded to his grandfather and looked to the woman who was standing with him. Her demeanor was defiant, yet it had a charm to it that he liked. She was quite beautiful and he noticed how her emerald eyes sparkled lightly when she blinked. Her figure was amazing, it was hard to believe that she was going to be his new partner. He smiled at her and bowed, saying, in his Romanian accent, "A pleasure to meet you miss. I am Alexander Von Dragos." he straightened up and cleared his throat once before continuing, this time in a slight British accent, "I'm sorry, is this better? My Romanian accent can sometimes be difficult to understand. As I said, it is a pleasure to meet you. May I ask your name?" He took her hand and brought it up to his mouth and kissed the top of it gently. Alaric spoke up, answering Alex's question, wanting to get on with the formalities so they could proceed to the mission assignment, "This is Rachelle... er Rae..." He changed his mind when he caught an angry glare from Rae. Alex smiled at her and said, "Delighted to meet you Rae, I'm sure we'll be great partners." He smiled, his fangs not visible at all. To any outsider, he would've just seemed like a pale eccentric foreigner, not like a vampire at all.

Rae looked over her new partner appreciatively. He was tall – she liked that, and he had strong, sturdy shoulders. Not too wide, like a football player, but strong enough to carry a heavy load. She liked that too. Then she noticed his eyes. They were ruby red – definitely not a shade she'd ever seen before. Rae wanted to chalk it up to contacts, but...she shrugged it off. She'd seen weirder things than ruby eyes. Actually, they were kind of cool. Alluring, really.
She blinked when Alexander changed accents, but she appreciated it. The English accent was easier to understand, and it was sexy, in an understated sort of way. Rae gave him a polite nod, noting the confident way he carried himself. Confident without being cocky. Unassuming. She liked that about him too. ”It's nice to meet you too, Alexander. Or do you prefer Alex? As for how well we'll work together, than remains to be seen. I'd like to do some training with you first, if that's alright.” Rae had a habit of speaking in a way that would make most people assume she was older than she was. It was a safety defence as much as it was a tell for her love of reading, although most wouldn't look that far into it.
Most that bothered to take a second glance at her figured she was a street urchin, an orphan, who was probably illiterate. Rae was not a person to give into circumstance. She'd had a rotten childhood, with a whore for a mother and a drug dealer for a father. But that would never stop Rae. She was disappointed with her parents, and while she loved them (they were her parents, after all, even though they barely acknoledged they had a daughter) Rae knew she wanted better for herself. She took it upon herself to enroll in school, attend every class, and complete all of her homework. Easier said than done with the kind of company her parents kept, but she struggled through and even after she had left home, she continued, forging signatures and stealing whatever she had to.
One cold winter she had gone to the public library, and just before closing time, one of the staff had found her there, reading to the remaining children in character voices and making grand gestures to illustrate the actions. Some of the parents were throwing worried looks her way, but the staff at the library had immediately fallen in love with her, and allowed her to sleep there in exchange for her to read to the children. When the children left for the night, Rae would wander the shelves, picking books out at random, teleporting herself to better lands, full of adventure and intelligent heroines who always overcame the trials that faced them. She had resolved early on to do just that, reading every book she could get her hands on, from self-defence manuals to how to hot-wire a car, to sewing and cooking, and even taking the time to be able to stumble through a conversation in French. Of course, most of those activities required practise, and she did the best with what she could, some being easier than others.
Rae jerked herself back to the conversation and looked at Alex, stuck again by how handsome he was, in an eccentric, off beat sort of way. She smiled tentatively at him. ”If you don't mind, I'd like to start training now, get a taste for what your fighting style is like, what sort of weapons you prefer...” Rae let her sentence trail, awaiting his response. She was young by a fighters standards, but that meant that she also had the speed of youth, and the advantage of people thinking that not only was she a woman, but that she was a young woman, with little experience who wouldn't be able to cause any damage - a misconception she was quick to rid her opponents of.

Alex chuckled and said, "You can call me Alex. As for training, that sounds like a splendid idea, I'm eager to see how you fight as well." He waved to Alaric who nodded, but sent a message to Alex through their mind link, "Don't let her know you're a vampire yet, she may not trust you if she does." Alex smiled and walked to the door, holding it open for Rae. Walking out behind her he quickly moved to her side and spoke to her while he guided the two of them to the training rooms, "So, Rae... Let's get down to business I suppose. I generally use two combat pistols, custom made. But if it comes down to it, I'm an expert in quite a few hand to hand styles." The phrase, "quite a few" was an understatement in Alex's case. He had mastered most martial arts, judo, Krav Maga, even Kung-Fu, Alex knew them all. Plus with his enhanced speed and strength he was nigh unbeatable in simple hand to hand combat. Alex sighed and cracked his neck, looking to Rae he asked, "What style of combat do you prefer? I would imagine... hand to hand is your specialty, but you are probably at least somewhat skilled with a few different weapons. If not, well, we have a whole armory of weapons you can practice with." Alex stopped outside the elevators, pressing the switch and an elevator immediately opened for them.
Stepping inside and pressing the button for subbasement three, Alex leaned against one of the walls of the elevator as it moved down. Still smiling lightly, he looked Rae over through his sunglasses; she was decently tall for a woman, and she was definitely beautiful. He saw the way she carried herself, with an air of being equal with everyone, despite the way she may look. The fact that she was a young woman was inconsequential to Alex, if one measured experience in combat simply by age, it would be a grave mistake for them. He blinked as his thoughts were brought to an end when the elevator dinged and brought him back to reality. Walking out of the elevator into the training area, Alex noted it's lack of occupation, but remembered that most people went home around this time. He looked around and said, "Well then, where should we start?" He reached inside his coat with both hands and conjured his pistols out of sight, bringing them out and twirling them on his fingers like the gunmen in spaghetti westerns would twirl their revolvers. He turned to Rae, holding the two pistols so they pointed up in the air and smiled expectantly.

Rae arched an eyebrow and smiled at him expectantly. "Those are badass pistols." she commented, looking them over before returning her gaze to Alex''s face. "Now we just have to see if you can use them." Rae grinned at him, a mischievous glint in her emerald eyes as Alex led her to the firing range. He pointed her in the direction of the weapons case, where there were all kinds of firearms displayed. Rae looked over the case, searching for....Ah, there it was.
Rae hefted the crossbow out of the case, and tested it's weight on her shoulder, looking down the sight to make sure it was aligned. She smiled when everything seemed in order, and found where they stored the arrows before loading her weapon. "I can't shoot more than one at a time before re-loading, but it's more of a challenge that way. One chance, one shot, one kill." They set up, Alex on Rae's left. He handed her a pair of protective ear muffs. She wouldn't need them for her crossbow, but the pistols might make enough noise to warrent the 'muffs, so she accepted them without complaint. "Six shots." She raised her voice so they could hear each other over the earmuffs, nodding at his pistol. "Just to see how accurate we are before we move the targets back." At fifty feet, they both hit six bullseyes. Rae took a little longer because she had to re-load after each shot, but it gave Alex time to study her while he waited. Then, he motioned for one of the employees to move the targets back 100 feet. After another six bullseyes each, they were moved back again to 150 feet. Another six bullseyes and Rae was satisfied.
She smiled again at Alex, and removed her earmuffs. "Alright, I'm satisfied with that." She grinned at him. "But how are you at hand to hand?" Alex again led the way, bringing her to a large gym type room, with mats and padded walls. Rae had been listening when Alex named off all of the martial arts sects he had mastered. She was doubtful, but didn't underestimate him. After all, she looked young too, and most people underestimated her. If she could be as good as she was at so young an age, why couldn't he have master many types of martial arts? Rae looked him over as he warmed up. He looked as though he was in his mid-twenties. "That's not too much older than me..." Rae thought, her gaze sliding over him appreciatively once more. "And he is kinda cute..." She thought, feeling a crush in the works. "Better keep that in check for now." She thought to herself, with a tinge of regret before she perked up again. "At least until I see if he can hold his own...."
When she was warmed up and stretched out, Alex lead her into the center of the mat, and a man stood in the corner of the room, watching. Alex explained "A medic, just in case. Accidents happen." Rae smiled again. The medic called out "Start!" Rae looked up at Alex, checking to see if he would make the first move. When he didn't, she smiled. Looks like it would be up to her to take the lead, and she aimed a high kick at his head. She figured he was waiting her out, trying to get a feel for her fighting style, which side she favored, what type of fighter she was, etc. So, she backed off just enough to force him into the offensive. As they sparred, an appreciation for him grew. Alex never rushed into anything in a fight. He thought it through, looking for weaknesses. Rae pushed a little harder to be sure he wasn't just letting her win, and relished the few surprised looks she received from him when she landed a few solid hits. After about ten minutes of solid and fierce fighting, Rae was starting to labor for oxygen, having already fought for her life once today, but she wouldn't be the one to end it. She wanted to show Alex she could go on for as long as he needed her to. Rae was satisfied he could cover her, and was prepared to accept him as a partner, but she wanted his approval too.

As the two of them sparred, Alex noticed how well Rae handled herself, he had underestimated her, a mistake he would be sure not to repeat. He noticed how she was slowing slightly and caught her off guard with a quick style change. He grabbed her and tossed her to the ground with a judo throw. He chuckled and said, "Enough. That was good. You can certainly handle yourself. I'm confident you can cover my back." He extended a hand to her and smiled, offering to help her up. He laughed when she flipped him off, batted his hand away and got up herself. He looked her over for a moment, she truly was a magnificent specimen, her long black hair looked perfect for her figure, and her figure itself was, to Alex, the embodiment of perfection. He smiled and stretched his arms above his head and sighed, satisfied that she would be a good partner. He looked at Rae and asked, "If you don't mind me asking, what's your opinion on vampires?" Alex smiled at her, waiting for her answer. he wanted to know, simply because it would determine whether or not they could truly trust each other. Even if she said she wasn't a fan of them, Alex would try to work past that and get them to be trusted partners.

Rae made a face. "Filthy bloodsuckers." she said, thinking of Jason, her words came out harsher than she'd meant. "Praying on innocent people, and they lord over it, thinking it's their right because they're immortal, that they're better than everyone else..."
She looked away, lost in some horrible memory of Jason. The way he'd treated her, talking about how they could spend eternity together, taking whatever they wanted, killing at random, no regard for their victims. Rae shuddered. Killing Jason had been the hardest thing she'd ever done. At one point, Rae honestly thought she loved him, but that had changed when he'd killed a girl her age and offered to make her one of them. She had been disgusted with the way they'd acted, the way they fed off of her...Rae shuddered again. She'd waited a week, praying that Jason would change his mind. When he didn't, and he'd tried to bite her, she'd fought him, and cut his head off.
"I'll kill them all...." she muttered under her breath, before turning back to face Alex, wiping her head clear of painful memories and putting a smile on her face. "Sorry..." Rae waved vaguely over her shoulder "Bad memories." She smiled sheepishly and extended her hand. "So, you've passed my test. I think you'll do. Partners?" she asked, smiling with her eyes closed, head titled a little to one side. She was going to love working with Alex, she just knew it.

Alex's smile faltered for only a second, his face flickering to a grimace for only a fraction of a second. His smile looked exactly the same, but his eyes betrayed the smile, it was hollow, empty, a simple guise to hide the frown he held inside. He heard her mutter under her breath, and it was crystal clear to Alex, his hearing picked it up easily. He sighed and replied, "You know, it's true that many vampires are evil, rotten, terrible, pieces of trash... but not all of them are. Many of the allies we have here in the organization are vampires as well... I had a vampire partner last... she was a good partner..." He wondered exactly what had happened to make her think so badly about vampires. Something terrible must have happened to her. It was likely that some trash vampire had something to do with it. They gave nobles a bad, bad name. He took her hand and shook it, smiling back, he said, his tone only slightly emotionless, "Partners it is. I think we'll get along just fine. Bad memories... I have a bundle of those too... Sometimes feels like four hundred years worth." He let go of her hand and turned to leave, the slight spring he had in his step now gone. He stopped about ten feet from Rae and said, not looking at her, "We should probably head back up to the offices, Alaric's still waiting to give us our assignment." He continued on to the elevators and waited inside one of them for her to get in and ride up with him.
