"Watch it!" She heard someone yell behind her. Clara turned around just in time to see a bandit get cut down by Abel. She was scared for a moment that she almost got struck down.

"Guess I did get a little reckless didn't I?" She said. Clara chuckled a little because she was trying to calm down. "Thanks for watching my back Abel. I've got your back." She saw them get surrounded. She got serious once again and got back in a fighting stance. "Got it!" The bandits charged at them and Clara attacked the ones on her side with some swift cuts from her sword.

User ImageWell he hadn't expected this. He figured his attacks would have left Jaren knocked out. To say he was surprised when he grabbed his wrist was no understatement. He had not expected this. However, this did not mean he was unprepared for what was to come.

However, what he was not prepared for was the fact that Jaren's face was expressionless. From where he was, he could see that his face was devoid of emotion. He felt...sorry for this myrmidon. However, he smiled at him. "Jaren, I am going to say this. I admire that you are hiding your emotions in this little duel of ours. Why you choose to cloak them, I am not sure. However...don't expect me to be out until the true moment has come."

As his blade came forward, it struck his arm, and he winced in pain. He was glad there had not been enough force behind the blow to sever his arm, but it still hurt like hell. However, his smile returned to his face, as he brought his Light Brand to his left hand. "You see, I understand that losing this arm will be bad for me. So, I am going to have to say...no."

He then brought his Light Brand forward with his left arm, and lashed at the arm that was hacking away at his own arm. He understood that he was not as coordinated with this arm, so he would suffer some repercussions from attacking with it. However, this was his plan to save his arm. Besides, if anything, Jaren would not be expecting this attack, since he probably thought Ziaram was hopeless here. I just pray that there is someone close by who can heal me soon...if not, then this may be my last fight.

The call of battle
The call of duty
They both mean the same.

x - [Leon] - x

As he and Anri charged, determined to get Aeolus to safety, the watchman's eyes noticed someone familiar at the wrong end of a head bandit and his lackeys' weapons. "Anri, quick, charge 'im!" Leon commanded. Anri responded to his rider by rearing up, and bringing his hooves down on Ali. The impact alone should be enough to stun him, not to mention the surprise of such a sudden blow. Reaching downward, Leon took Roy up on his steed, and begun to make a retreat with both the redhead and the newcomer in tow.

"Are ya all right, Roy? Ya gotta be careful!" Leon exclaimed, now having to keep his eyes out on both the young lord and the other rider to his side. It wasn't going to be easy to protect them when the bandits caught on and started to rush, but that wouldn't stop him. The only way these three, as well as anyone else in this battle was going to survive was by not giving up. "Can ya still fight, lad?" Leon asked Roy now, as they advanced. "It would do us a lotta good to have someone coverin' our backs! I can handle the front just fine!" He said, drawing his sword. Soon enough, the bandits would try and block their exit, that was a basic maneuver that Leon was ready to counter.

Oh, battles, bandits, and bad things. The greatest part of all the madness his sister insists being a part of. Akihi could jump with joy and scream to the skies about how excited he was to be a part of this while Alihi was making sure Amara was safe! This was the best thing ever!

... Not. But there wasn't much that Akihi could do about it now, especially since he decided to get himself involved. Running would be horrible, and something that wasn't very realistic anyway. The chance that he would be able to get out of the city was slim with everything going on around them. So instead he focused on making barrages of Fire spells (Elfire, to be specific) to slow or take down the enemy forces. He did so at random; when there was an area that seemed to have too many to handle, his attack would go there. It was simple and almost mindless, and after a while he had to stop to make sure he didn't overwork himself on accident.

That was when he noticed two people, surrounded by bandits that were trying to reach the gate. He couldn't quite recognize the girl, but the other... the other person made Akihi want to facepalm so hard. The mage knew he couldn't ignore this; after all, it was Abel involved. Alihi would never forgive him. Clutching his tome closer to his body, he murmured the enchantment under his breath and sent the fire straight toward the backs of some of the bandits. If it didn't kill them, it would hopefully divert their attention long enough for Clara and Abel to turn the tables a bit. And then he wouldn't get killed by angry people! ... Right?

Fire Dragon

User ImageWhen, as the previous FD post a few pages back had said (just so a timeline is clear), when the amorphous wave of bat lizards first became visible, the Fire Dragon had pulled back quite a distance towards the West Gate for aligning himself in such a manner that would maximize the number of creatures he’d be able to strike at with his Flametongue.

Which worked excellently! But so great was the number of bat lizards that even striking an impressive amount of them simultaneously didn’t cause a visible change in the number of them. There just seemed to be no end to them. Worse yet, just as the dragon seemed to be attacking many bat lizards at a time, many bat lizards were attacking him at once, as well. And he couldn’t fight them all simultaneously by any means. Those that attempted to attack his back and sides faced poor results: FD’s scales were fabulously tough. None were stupid enough to try attacking his head either, which was a one-way ticket to being incinerated by Flametongue. But those that went after his fleshier belly had far better results. Lacking protection of the caliber the rest of the Fire Dragon’s body possessed, his underside was a much more effective target, and their onslaught possessing an effective target on him, they quickly went from being pests to being a serious problem capable of inducing major pain.

With swarms of them against only one of him, he couldn’t expect to be rid of them all. But the tangible pain he felt from their attacks didn’t prevent him from trying. FD had tucked his head to try to aim a Flametongue at those tearing at his underbelly, but attaining an angle that would hit them was impossible, it quickly became apparent. He next tried swiping at them with his own claws to wipe them away, and while this was slightly more effective, it didn’t come close to ridding himself of them. And with their prolonged presence upon him, which brought with it prolonged pain of increasing intensity, the Fire Dragon was soon thrashing through the sky in frustration, splaying Flametongues haphazardly. At least the Flametongue was hitting enemies… although they also had the potential to hit allies who weren’t paying attention or didn't look out

With a sickening yet dull 'thunk', fist made contact with steel protector. Roy blinked in surprise, and it took a few moments to register what just happened. Ali's cursing pretty much summed it all up as the black man kicked Roy into the side of the house.

The redhead started to chuckle, quietly at first, then he pulled his head back and roared in laughter. Ali told him to take a look around to show that his NPC allies were down, and that he was the only one left. The young lord, once he had calmed down, smirked before looking back up at the black bandit. There was still a strong fire in his eyes as he started walking towards Ali.

"You may have the superior numbers, but you've already lost this fight. Even an outnumbered army can turn things around and win with tactics." he said coolly, noticing Leon and a second person riding his way. He waited a few moments, timing it right for the element of surprise. "Or reinforcements."

He swung the Flame Sword towards the bandits on his right, trying to blast them away with fire as Leon and Anri went up to stun Ali with the hooves. Roy then spun as the flames built up around the sword before swinging to blast away the bandits on the left side, then raised his free hand to grab onto Leon's hand. He then swung himself onto the mount and they rode off.

"I'm fine. There were more helping out, but I guess they were already defeated. Your timing was perfect..." he replied to Leon when he asked. "Gimme a few moments to catch my breath. I need to finish what I started with that bandit before more of them can make a break for the castle. Some of them already broke free when I was cornered."

He paused. "Oh, but we have bigger things to worry about. There's a huge bandit making his way to the castle. His hammer is more than enough to break the barriers, and not even my flames could bring him down. And there was Ziaram fighting Jaren too..." he said, bringing the two of them back up to current events.

The fire sword glowed once again with brilliant flames before he swung behind them to try to hold off some of the bandits that would be chasing after them.

DERRIN EX-MACHINA!!!!!!!

"Step aside girl!" Came the rough voice of another mage joining the fray. Derrin had run out of siege magic long ago, and had decided/been ordered to move to assist at the West Gate. He had his favourite thunder tome out and opened his other hand pointing upwards. "You all might want to step back" said again with a sadistic smile on his face.

As Iguldra had the hammer at the top of his swing a peel of thunder rang out, poor Iguldra was filled with metal at the moment thanks to the arrows Kiote had fired into him in addition with the hammer being pointed upwards... well it did more then even Derrin expected not just one bolt came down, but three drawn by Iguldra's hulking bulk they convened on the giant with a defening crash.

Ziaram must have had an incredible pain tolorence, after Jaren's second swing his arm was only hanging on by a thread but he was still able to reach behind him to draw a second Lightbrand. Talk about tough, the movements that he made however were not as quick as they would have been had Ziaram still had two functioning arms however so the move wasn't as surprising as he thought. The attack however did cause Jaren to let go of the nearly severed arm, hell it looked like the thing might fall off on it's own, with a quick step he avoided Ziaram's last ditch attack and ended up behind the wounded myrmidon.

A quick slash at the back of the knees to hopefully cut Ziaram's hamstrings, followed up by a turn and a wicked cut at the top of his back.

Jaren planned to continue cutting Ziaram until he stopped moving, alive at the end or not.

Two bandits went flying back, knocking into another one. Two more bandits rapidly filled in the gap and shortly after clanged their axes against the horizontal broadsword. Abel pushed them back and then swung, cutting one on the back, who spun and chopped right into the other bandit's chest. Having a large sword was very useful in staving off numerous enemies at once. But while Abel dealt with his surroundings in a slower and more powerful way, Clara was managing on her own by killing one after the other as fast as she could. Opposite approaches, but hey, it was working. At least, it was for the time being.

The two of them were still surrounded even after felling quite a few of their enemies. If they couldn't get out, fatigue would overtake them and spell their ends. Just as Abel was beginning to feel the effects, a sudden spell boomed behind him. He turned quickly to see a bandit that had sneaked behind go down, while other bandits were knocked back. He had some reinforcements, after all! Abel scanned behind him and caught the sight of a purple robe that was very welcome. He smiled big as he raised his hand and formed a big thumbs up to match. "Good job, Akihi!!" With his spirit a little rejuvenated, Abel kept his smile and returned to fighting. The bandits around him were getting back up after being knocked down or jumping out of the way from the fireball. When they saw the smile, it left some demoralized and even intimidated. That is an advantage of confidence.

"Time to start turning this around! Yaah!" Abel jumped up and swung his sword down on a bandit, slicing right through him and cracking the cobblestone beneath. As he lifted the sword back up, the body was flung off and rolled into some enemies that were running towards him. But he didn't pause, he moved straight from lifting his sword to intercepting an axe, and then pushing it back with a spin that opened up the bandit to a kick in the gut. after the kick, Abel fluidly brought his sword down to slash across a bandit on his opposite side. When there were no enemies directly in front of him, he spared a second to see if Clara was alright and focused back on his end again. "Is this it?! Come on!"

...Nobody said he didn't get carried away when he fought. Now he was just asking to be attacked. But he also knew who all had his back and that motivated him on.

the Mordacheans who attacked the catapulter obviously did not expect him to put up a big fight while focusing on launching huge rocks like the one that almost hit Nino. But would he be able to see and do something about the boulder that was headed on a perfect trajectory towards his catapult... while dealing with two more soldiers? Let's find out! ;D

Back by the gate, the bandits were still going at it with the two swordsman and the soldiers. Their moral was weakening, but there were still many of them. While trying to take out the two sword fighters that had gone and gotten themselves surrounded, a fireball came out of nowhere and messed them up. They were pretty pissed about it. some of the more ticked off ones charged at the soldiers and a few managed to break through their line. They had a new target; the mage.

The red haired boy had been saved, but neither he nor the two riders had escaped the bandits yet. They were in the southern part of the city, which had been lost. It was now bandit territory. And with some of them in obvious need to get medical treatment, they looked like easy targets. Before they knew it, their path was blocked by more bandits, some of them archers.

"Did you find any survivors over there?!" a soldier called out to the rest of his group while prowling about the southern side of the city, which was now considered lost to the bandits. "Wait, I think I hear some fighting- this way!" The others in the group caught up with him and ran towards where they heard weapons clashing. As they turned a corner, they saw Jaren and Ziaram. "Get off of him, you sand rat!!" The soldiers rushed towards Jaren and forced him away from Ziaram's body. One of them knelt down and examined him. "He's a guild member... he looks in bad shape-get him out of here! Get him to the medical base, we'll take care of this guy!" As two of the soldiers began to carry Ziaram off, the rest of them focused on taking down Jaren.

Slash! Slash! Two more bandits were down from Clara's sword. She was handling things quite nicely. Though this was starting to wear her out a little.

"How many more of these guys are there!?" She said out loud. She was starting to get tired. "I thought there would be a few of them, not the entire country of Sentria!" Clara's eyes then widened as a fireball caused a boom in front of her. She jumped back a bit, because that had startled her a little. She then heard Abel yell 'good job' to someone. Guess that meant the person who caused the fireball was on their side.

The myrmidon regained her focus and started going at it again, but something seemed off to her. There seemed to be less of them going after her. She spun herself to see her surroundings, cutting down anyone that was around her. Clara saw that more of them were going to the line. That wasn't good

"Abel!" She yelled, "More of the enemy is going to the line!" Clara started making her way to the line after she said that cutting more of the enemy down on the way there.

Kiote Deliven
&
Grave Yuion

It appeared that Grave's action was indeed helpful, though as for stopping... well that wasn't the case. Grave's bite couldn't tear any muscle to make it so the giant ceased his running, but the fact remained the same that the giant did indeed slow. The catapult's stone slamming into the giant was the point at which Grave let go of the giant and back stepped away, growing lowly as he watched the giant. This timing was perfect as Nino let loose another elfire that would have easily burned Grave. Friendly fire was particularly dangerous for Grave when it was literally fire that was being used. Grave jumped back just as the giant started it's wild swinging, Grave growling lower as he crouched down and prepared to strike again.

Grave had started to move when suddenly he heard a call to move back. Grave reacted to this with near instant speed, lightning slamming into the giant. Of course, Grave still felt the charge in the air as the lightning hit the hammer and ultimately the giant.

And Kiote was watching nearby, but he's not doing much. (Writers block on Kiote.)

User Image Ali arched an eyebrow and popped his lower lip. The kid was being stupid. He was just babbling idiocy; he didn't exactly have the best of tactics going on. Even in their one on one fight, Ali was the more tactical of the two. Was he expecting some sort of Miracle--

A sudden loud neigh from a horse resounded from Ali, startling him. "Da ********--!!" He turned to look, but before he was even fully turned, he was kicked by the horse and sent straight through the doorway of the house behind him. All that was heard were the crashes of furnishings toppling over on top of him. It seemed a miracle was exactly what the kid had gotten.

Ali didn't emerge from the house for at least five minutes, maybe longer. Once he woke up, he undertook the tedious task of shoving everything off of him, which was a challenge to do with only one good hand, and eventually made it outside to see that the other bandits were dead. He didn't know where that kid went and there was no point in looking. Sentria was on a mission, after all. Ali did what he could to help his broken hand as he cautiously trotted along the streets in the south. The fighting had moved northward towards the main street already, it seemed. But was it really okay for him to think 'already'? The battle may have been going on for days, and nobody would have realized it. That was the sort of fight it was, after all.

As he continued on, Ali picked up the sound of weapons clashing along with a familiar voice. He peered around the corner of a house and saw Jaren going at it with some soldiers. When he thought back, Jaren had disappeared not long after they had stormed into the city. The kid was handling himself well, but Alli knew he was just a hopeless moron. He approached and leaned against the wall. Once the last soldier was gone, he alerted Jaren to his presence. "s**t son, the ******** you been doin'? Get yo a** over here and stop yo bleedin'!! Ya look like an a*****e." Ali rolled his eyes and looked up to the sky. It was dusk. "Looks like our light's goin' out again..."

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. The thunder bolted from the sky surged into Iguldra's body. Jolts bounced around every inch of the monstrosity. A normal thunder type attack would not have been more effective than a fire type spell, but the metal of the arrows served as a conductor. Of course, they were helped to become conductors from the fire spell. And there were arrows in the first place because of the archer. Nevertheless, the attack was extra damaging. The giant could not even move his body, which spasmed wildly on its own from the current.

As the light undoubtedly blinded those in the area, making them unable to see what was happening, their imaginations were filled with a wonderful sensation by the behemoth's loudest, most gut-wrenching roar ever. Eventually, the light faded and revealed Iguldra who looked, well, like what a person looks like after being struck by three lightning bolts at once... not very pretty. And he wasn't gorgeous to begin with. Still, his sizzling body just stood there, the same as after he had been hit with the second elfire, and some may have thought he would suddenly move again just like before. But as his body slowly leaned forward and then gave in to gravity that shoved him face down into the street, worries were put to rest. At long last, the giant, Iguldra, had been slain. It was not by one mere mage's attack, either. In truth, had he not been slammed and cut and arrowed or hit by the other spells, he would probably still be alive. It was a team effort and every person involved played a necessary part in the victory.

In a way, it was rather unfortunate. Iguldra was not an evil person by nature. Fate simply brought him into the world with a brain that did not work the way it should, in a country where he never got a chance to be helped, with a face that made his mother throw up in her mouth a little each time she looked at him and smile awkwardly but still lovingly though only because she had to. You know the one. Drake took him and turned him into a tool used for whatever purpose he had in mind. Iguldra was just following orders, not understanding what he was really doing. Perhaps if he looked more beautiful and less like a death machine, his attackers would have tried sealing him somehow instead of killing him outright. But that is something they will each have to look inside their hearts about...

A shiver went through Nino's whole body as the monster let out a roar so mighty, it shook her very bones. As the light and smoke faded, they could see it still standing... and then he fell. She half expected an earthquake to accompany the crash of his body hitting the ground. Looking upon the sad and disgusting creature, she couldn't bring herself to smile over the victory...

Because there were bigger problems. There remained enemies at every turn. She looked about at the people who had fought beside her. "This is a grave situation... The question is where do we go from here?"

User Image Two more soldiers? Now they were just asking for it. And it seemed that the enemy had placed his catapult as a prime target as well. He growled low in his throat about this whole deal. He grabbed the catapult, heaving and twisting it sharply and shoved, pushing the thing towards the enemy soldiers and hopped on, grabbing the previously downed soldiers weapon as the thing rolled towards the two. Now, he wasn't skilled in the use of a pole-arm, but, it made a decent club as he waved it around in front of him as the siege weapon bared down on the soldiers relentlessly. The two soldiers backed up, but there was little room to be had as they reached the end of the rampart, one side being the wall and the fall to death, and the other being the catapult, come to bowl them over with the raving lunatic carrying the pole-arm. Such indecision is what got the best of them. one was smacked by the pole-arm and ran over, the life crushed out of him by the heavy catapult. the other made a quick decision to dodge the catapult that bumped uselessly against the rampart wall. He was indeed a little bit more skilled then his comrade. Lucky for Rook, the soldier didn't have much room to work with as he swung his blade, getting a lucky blow in and cutting rooks arm. Another scar to add to the collection. Growling low, the man raised the pole-arm with ferocity, swinging it like a baseball bat at his enemies mid-rift. The man raised his shield to block the easy blow... If it had been any other man. After lifting catapult boulders for years, Rook indeed had some great strength. A strength that not many shared. The blow clattered against the soldiers shield, but it sent him sprawling, lucky not to fall off the rampart. Rook heard the crash of the boulder that had been directed at him striking the rampart. He cringed with the thought of being their and losing his baby. But, He had things to deal with. Raising the pole arm he hacked down violently, as the soldier twisted and turned, avoiding the falling pole-arm at all cost. The soldier kicked out, sending the armored man back a couple feet, which gave him the chance to get back up, smacking the weapon out of Rook's hand. Their fists then went flying, as each man parried and dodged. the soldier had the upper hand on Rook, sending him sprawling with a fist to the face. The soldier, knowing that the man could be a threat if he turned his back to focus on dismantling the catapult decided that he would take up arms and finish this. Now it was Rook's turn to be defensive. He took up the shield the man had dropped earlier and blocked the swords fall, kicking out and tripping the soldier. He rose again, this time giving the nameless soldier a thorough curb stomping, finally taking up the blade to finish the man. He was rather disgusted that the enemy had made it this far in. But he had to keep up the line.

With the two soldiers taken care of, Rook turned the catapult the rest of the way, focusing on the greater threat of distant catapults. It seemed that they were not focused, as he was, lobbing stones at Eyris' walls carelessly. If it hadn't been such a real threat, he would have laughed. But it was a great threat, one that he and the other siege weapons were the only capable units of reaching. He called a cease fire from the catapults, who had rather carelessly began to throw stones in any odd direction due to the death of Arashe. Rook counted the catapults and Ballistae, on his side, and on the enemies side. His roaring voice could be heard along the wall, barely above the din of battle. The man was taking control of the siege defenses of Eyris! If one knew the man, they would believe that the credentials were of decent standing. He cursed at his mates, telling them to stop their firing and to focus on the enemy siege. quickly he mapped out the enemy forces, and then he mapped out the Eyris siege forces, giving each position a number, and then assigned targets for each, prioritizing and X-ing out a few. He sent the runner with explicit orders for the siege weapon to not fire until his command.

For a few minutes the Eyris Siege weapons had gone silent, which could cause two feelings. Something wicked was planned, or they had all been wiped out. The command of Rook, one proud commander of Grusts mighty Iron Cavalry, spread to the siege weapons, and they altered their trajectories, beginning to nit pick about their weapon and fine tune their aim. After each catapult and Ballistae was loaded and locked on its trajectory, the commander of each station gave a nod, signaling that they were ready. Seeing that the defenses were ready he raised his hand, looking across the battlefield as he envisioned The capital of Grust. He could see himself there, atop the wall with his mates and the iron cavalry. He was looking out. And there they were, an enemy come prancing out to destroy them. A smirk tugged at the mans lip.

"What do ye ail, O mortal man, or tae what purpose is it tae spend yer life in groans an' complaints, under the apprehensions o' Death? Where are yer past years an' pleasures? Are they not vanish'd an' lost in the flux o' time, as if ye hadst put water in tae a sieve? Bethink yerself then o' retreat, and leave the world with the same content an' satisfaction as a well satisfied guest rises from an agreeable feast," the man roared. His hand raised high and came crashing down. With it, the siege weapons let out a volley, the air sudden filled with stone and bolt reaching out across the field of battle like the hand of god going out to smite those that would slander him. Primary targets had been assigned. The siege weapons of the enemy had to be broken, so that the troop on the ground could rest easier and focus on the battle at hand. The next objective, when the enemy siege weapons had been dealt with, was to break the lines of archers and alleviate the stress on the front lines, and the enemy fliers needed to be dealt with. The catapults could deal with the archers, and the Ballistae would use their bolts to pierce the riders in the sky. After these objectives had been accomplished, he was sure the ground war would gain momentum.
