"War crimes? Asami? Executed, really? What had they all done?"

"By war crimes, they refer to the accidental slayings of Estarcian soldiers. Asami was that, err, berserk infection thing. Vaida was charged for provoking Sentria into this mess, and Rath... refuses to tell what really happened with Nino, the former captain." Jin felt it was time to quit slinking around.

"..."

As for the resistance bit, Rhys was already around to catch it. Rei nominated himself to lead; personally he'd have been happy to let that happen, but Fefga readily disagreed. Abel nominated Amelia, but the small bundle in Rhys' arms would have disagreed (Had he figured out how to speak English yet instead of "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH").

"I'd say I should lead, given my, umm... past experience in matters like this," Jin spoke up, "But if the one who's supposed to lead doesn't want to, then that's not me."

FD's eyes by now had turned upon Rhys...

"Umm... well, hang on now," Rhys said, very un-hero-like. "I saved the King's life because it was the right thing to do, that's all. And from what I'm hearing about these trials, I--I can't say Rogvald is entirely in the wrong. I for one find Rath's actions... odd. I don't think he'd do anything to Nino, but he... won't say anything about it. I have no idea why it was necessary for the Learanian army to cross the border into Sentria way back, for there'd already been--what, a dozen competent people already on the job? I doubt many know what truly went down with Salami--excuse me, Asami--aaaand while unfortunate, the people involved with the Estarcian slayings sound as though they did so without so much as a 'by-your-leave' afterward." He looked embarrassed by this--his eyes were averted, and he was blushing a bit. It takes a ton of courage to stand up to your friends, even for Rhys.

"So... I really don't think I want to be the one leading this. The penalties for the most part sound harsh, but... to resist? I'm-I'm not sure it would be in the right."

It occurred to Rhys long afterward that if he really didn't want to lead, he could have used reverse psychology on Fefga and said "YES ACTUALLY LET ME LEAD! PICK ME!", but he didn't think of that now.

Lyre sighed dramatically, blowing up a tuft of her hair.

"Oh for the love of- honestly. I think this 'Rei is selfish blah de blah' is a sack of crap, if the kid wants to lead a resistance, then let the kid lead a resistance. We all know this trial was put on by one old guy with a stick up his arse anyway, and it's not like someone ISN'T going to just swoop in and be all 'LOOK NOW WE'VE BROKEN THE PRISONERS OUT OF JAIL, NOW WE JUST TOOK OUT THE KING, LOOKIT HOW AWESOME WE ARE,' because this place is pretty overrun with justice and praise seekers. That said," she took a donut out of her bag, and shoved it into Rei's mouth, "chew on that for a minute, would you."

"Now. Everyone just clean up the damn living area, and stew for a bit. You wanna talk about injustices? My people lived in slavery for years and as a whole got stabbed in the back plenty of times. Things could be worse. It's not the end of the world. And I'm glad that Rhys just put that out on the table too, because honestly as far as being a 'leader,' can you actually name any times when Rath has done something besides stand there at formal events? Oh, you say he does paperwork- um, paperwork on WHAT? Taxes? We don't pay taxes. Immigration records? The hell is that useful for. We don't even get PAID, so it's not like he's managing paychecks. The ones that do anything are the ones that are pretty much standing here right now anyway."

Lyre folded her arms across her chest.

"Fact is, no one ever HAS gotten any negative repercussions around here for anything, unless they're labeled as inherently bad- but even then, they just get slaughtered on the spot anyway. War crimes ARE serious- anyone who lived in Begnion or Daien is well aware of that. What makes it any more different here? Do we have gold halos around our heads or something? Not like I agree with this geezer and his puppet king marching on in, but something could've been done BEFORE that happened, y'know, instead of standing around letting flies hang out in our mouths. We can say, oh but these people are our friends and important to us, but that never saved anyone else from doing time."

Fefga frowned again at Lyre. "It's painful to hear you say that. You obviously don't know, well, anything. The reason Rath was only ever really seen at events is because he took on the responsibilities for himself and Nino. What does he do? What does any ruler of a country do? Hearing you say things like that..." Her voice grew deep and menacing, echoing throughout the room. "It makes you sound like an ungrateful baby!!" She calmed down. "Nobody is making you fight back. You can leave now and not risk a thing."

She turned to Rhys. "Maybe you're right. I only gave you the opportunity to save your friends. Darkness hides in these affairs. These cases were actual cases, not made up ones for the sake of punishing people. Funny how they were used to hide the injustice in the sentencing or how they proceeded. More is happening than you can see. But like I said before, the choice is yours."

"If I may." Wil could see that people were starting to fall in spirits. He turned to Lyre. "Um, I don't know who you are, but your right, it could be a lot worse. And as it seems... It's going to get worse and worse from here on out. Until it is worse then what your people went through. People who are offered power over all, intend to abuse it. Soon, who knows, it may be a public offense for you to even be in the open. You may get killed for that. That could happen to us all."

Wil looked down at the floor. His eye's saddening as did his heart. So he raised his head and looked at Rhys. "You, I can only imagine what must going through your head. You have your child. You don't want to leave him without a father should anything go wrong. But, what you said about Rath. He may be odd, but isn't he your leader. Many good people are seen as bad, just because they are slightly stranger then others. We can't judge Rath and neither should Rogvald. He is your leader, not this apparent "puppet king"." Wil let his eyes fall on Amelias face. "You have a wonderful baby, if I assume right that is."

Wil looked back at the group as a whole. "Anyways, when you joined up with Rath Nino was in charge right? And you all joined trusting that she would keep you, your families, and your friends safe right? Well apparently when she was forced to step down, she made Rath the leader right? Well if she trusted him to keep you all safe, shouldn't you trust him? And because he hasn't openly done stuff, doesn't mean he couldn't have been doing things behind... At least, that's what I would think. Anyways, shouldn't we save him because he has every right to live just as you do? And about your friend's in imprisonment, don't they have every right to be free?" Wil looked at Lyre again. "You were in slavery, you weren't free, you know what it's like. You have your freedom now, would you want it taken away to be stored in some cell again? Do they deserve to experience that... Truly?"

Wil now knew who Fefga was from the display of... strange power. He walked up to the spirit and bowed respectfully. "All I can say is that no cause is lost if one person still fights for it. So if I'm the one person, then so be it. I want to help them. I just want to help. And according to you, If I want to help, I can't be in the guild. Well, tell me what to do. I will do what I can."

"You can't blame yourself. Blaming yourself and falling into depression, it won't change anything.
You have to look forward. Remember what you have here now.
Just think; if you hadn't come here, you wouldn't have met anyone here from
Elibe or anywhere else!"

{Amelia}
Amelia rubbed a hand against her forehead. Things were already starting to fall apart, even after the arrival of their guardian spirit, and this was not looking good. At this rate, people would start shouting again and then Aisen would cry once more from upstairs. Something needed to be done.

"Okay... guys? Guys? Guys." Firmly addressing everyone in the living room, Amelia folded her arms over her chest. "Clearly something's going wrong here. So you know what we're gonna do? We're all going to shut up about this Resistance idea for now. You all are going to help me clean up the mess in here. And then the people who can go back into Eyris are going to get the things for the banished people who need whatever, clothes or whatever it is, while the rest of us get guest rooms ready. You know why? Because we need to tackle one problem at a time."

Amelia sighed, shaking her head. "I mean, all I'll say is, maybe some people do deserve to be punished. But not by jailing or, heaven forbid, execution. And if Rei wants to lead this Resistance, then for ******** sakes, let him do it. It's not like he'll be alone."

The General grabbed Lyre's hand, giving her a smile, before taking Rhys' in her other. "But for now. Start cleaning. This is your home for a while, so you're going to damn well treat it like one. Get to it or don't expect me to feed all of you."

As Gale left, he glanced around him at the expansive countryside. The town of Eyris could be seen nearby, around that was forest and plains. Gale took a direction towards the woodlands, opting for some peace and quiet to sort his thoughts. Certainly, this advisor was wronging the public, and certainly someone would have to do something about it. But was that someone himself?

For one person, perhaps. But no one else.

As he paced underneath a path lightly trodden under the canopy of the forest, he heard a faint set of footsteps trailing him in the silence of the cool afternoon air. He paused.

"Zeiss."

Gale's tone was sharp and harsh. He also did not do the man the liberty of turning around to meet his face.

"Do you often trail others without a single word? I thought you had honor."

Gale's hand migrated to his side for a moment, as if instinctively reaching for a weapon, then dropped the hand to his side and slowly turned to meet the gaze of the man following him. "You're lucky. If I were armed right now I'd kill you. But since I'm not, I'll give you the liberty of conversation." His tone lightened, but his words were still clipped and hiding anger. "What can I do for you?"

(( Because the last placeholder got erased, wtf. Granted it didn't matter because I was going to delete it anyway but still. :| ))

"What?" Rei said, simply glaring at Fefga as she flatout denied him, and not even for a good reason! "You don't know what you're even-" And WHAM! Donut'd. Some of the powdered sugar flew off and bounced off of the back of the Druid's throat, kicking his gag reflex and making him cough up the donut. It just fell to the floor all nasty-like as cherry filling oozed out just a little.

When he finally caught his breath, Fefga was proceeding to tell the laguz that she knew nothing and that she was, well, wrong. But what he'd heard of the cat's opinion, she seemed like she knew what she was talking about. Rei picked up the donut from the floor and walked over towards a trash can while some man with a bow began to go on about... well, something. Rei tossed the donut into a trash can, doing at least that to listen to Lyre, before walking up next to the man who seemed to have just appeared out of nowhere. "Do you even have any idea what's going on...?" That was all Rei said on the matter, however, as he turned to face Fefga once more.

"And you, Fefga... it seems like you have changed. You've been gone for about a year, correct? Just think about that. Oh, and before you say I betrayed my friend, think about how willingly he stepped down from the Crew for his crimes. If I betrayed him, wouldn't he have been defensive? Before you define actions that one friend does to another, why don't you try getting some friends yourself?" The Druid didn't say anything more, because Amelia was visibly irritated already. He didn't blame her, after all, with her house being invaded and left in worse shape than before. But, at the least, he gave the spirit something to think about. She was being positively batty, irrational, if you will.

Rei, however, proceeded to just start tidying things up. Using Erebus, he began removing the chairs the onlookers sat in back into some semblance of order. As he got a good number of chairs together, he then proceeded to grab a table and move that back into position. What kind of jerks wouldn't even clean up after that giant mess?

Razevi

PostPosted: Thu Sep 02, 2010 1:59 pm

Slowly and quietly, but gaining speed and volume with time, there came a clapping sound from the side of the room.

"Bravo. You can't pay for these kinds of shows."

Razevi sat in a rather cushy armchair in the far corner of the room, watching the scene with a bemused smile underneath her mask. Her tattoo was faded to nearly natural skin color as she wasn't feeling particularly emotional at the given moment. She was unarmed (or, at least, as unarmed as an ancient sorceress could be) and an apple sat upon her leg which she proceeded to pick up and toss into the air repeatedly. It was really hard to ascertain how long she had actually been sitting there - perhaps she was actually only there to someone who was looking for her?

"Trials, arguments, resistances! Ohoho, this is all too familiar..." She caught the apple once more, taking a bite of it with her black-stained lips before continuing. "It's all kind of cute, really."

As if responding to the what must be the shocked faces turned to look at her, she shrugged. "Relax. I'm not feeling particularly malicious at the moment. See the tattoo? I mean it. I actually needed some help from the--" the hand holding the apple wavered in the air for a moment, then flicked in the vague direction of Amelia "-- lady general over there." She took another bite of the apple. "You all can stay if you wish, but I'd like a private word with her." She chewed the bite and swallowed it, smiling innocently while staring at Amelia. "That is, if she's willing."

"No I don't know what's going on. All I know is that there are people out there and they need help. And you selfish lot are sitting around trying to find excuses as to not get in trouble. Well if we stand together we won't be in trouble. But you all worry about each other. You." Wil pointed at Rei, "How would you feel if you were just charged with a crime and lost your title. He's betrayed and drinking in the tavern back a way form here. He's probably drowning his sorrow as we speak. Get over yourself. Quit thinking with your head and think with your heart. Think about other people's feelings."

Wil turned to look at Amelia and Rhys. "I understand that you don't want to leave your child. But don't you think he would be ashamed when he grew up and you told him how mommy and daddy sat back and watched one of their colleagues die? While many others rot in prison, I wouldn't that thought on my child's head if I have one. Anyways." Wil laid the map down on the table. "Mark where the prison is and where the carriage is that will take them there. I'll save them myself while you all worry about yourselves. Sit here and wallow in self pity for all I care. I'm here to help people, OTHER then myself. Because if I do, I'm no better then the one's who took your friends away."

Wil marched out of the manor. As he got outside he saw that his campsite from atop a hill. It was fine for now. He could leave it be and he wouldn't have to worry. He quickly found a nearby tree and climbed to a branch. He settled himself in and looked up at the sky. "I'll do my best. I hope I'm enough to save them."

Clara was once again being ignored. She hated that feeling and would to help out if she knew anything at all. She sighed.

"I'm probably going to yelled at for this, but maybe I will get to know something."The myrmidon thought. She then took a deep breath.

"HEEEEEYYYYYY!!!!" She yelled. "CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT'S GOING ON HERE!?" Clara cleared her throat. "Well I don't know anyone here and I don't know what is really going on. I just want to not be confused. Is that a problem?"

The door of Fefga's manor swung open hard, slamming against the wall with a shuddering thump. Framed in the doorway stood the enormous, shaggy-haired, winged king of the hawks. He strolled in, and before anyone could open their mouth, rammed his left fist into Razevi's right cheek. "I don't know what she's doing here," he grumbled. "But Fefga, please eject her from the premises. It's good to have you back," he added.

"So I couldn't help overhearing a whole mountain of bullshit in here. Rei, you're like fifteen and have never led an army in your life." He focused his yellow stare on the young druid, then let out a long, slow breath.

"Fefga," he said. "You have no idea how good your timing is. As long as you're here, the King can't send anyone in to attack us if he gets word of a resistance." He dropped into a seat at one of the tables, bracing his boot on the floor and turning it as he scooted back, then brought his right ankle up to rest on his left knee and draped his arms behind the chair.

"Everyone relax. Somebody go find Soren, I'm sure he'd be glad to help you come up with some plans. Fefga, Amelia, I'm leaving the manor in your hands for now." Tibarn was one of those guys who didn't need to say he was taking over. The rugged hawk was an anchor to sanity in a room full of crazy.

"Keep the place safe, okay? There are some things I need to do in town; for the goddess' sake, nobody do anything stupid while I'm gone, alright?" He stood up slowly and brushed off his jacket, spreading and then folding his wings. "Jin," he said as he turned, "Can you discreetly spread the word among the guild that the manor is safe again?" He had already crossed to the door, and pulled it open, once more a silhouette against the bright sunlight.

"I'll be back soon. Come up with some contingency plans and pool your information so we can figure out exactly what we know. And what we don't," he muttered to himself before stepping across the threshold.

Seconds later, a hawk rose above the trees and began its journey back toward Eyris.

Oujay had been standing next to the door listening into the whole situation, as if he had been invisible the whole time. A lot was already happening in a short amount of time. Fefga had returned, which was great. He had never seen or met her himself, he has heard stories about Fefga and of course this was her manor after all. She told the people about leading some resistance and possibly even save the guild members that are going to be sent to the asylum. That would mean he could save Lord Roy.

But, it seems as though drama was beginning to rise as the conflict of who would be the leader arised. However, it quickly seemed to stop as a Laguz stepped in and basically said we should clean things up first. For some reason the boy let out a sigh of relief. Other people willingly listened and began to clean up, even Oujay stepped out of his spot where he was invisible and began helping the others even if they didn’t notice.

Another figure seemed to have suddenly appeared as she was eating an apple. Were people just appearing out of nowhere? Though she immediately wanted to talk to Amelia apparently. The boy was beginning to be confused about things. Not only that a huge hawk figure barged into the room and slammed his fist into the other woman who had suddenly appeared. People really were just suddenly appearing out of nowhere. As quick as the he came, the guy quickly gave a few commands and a few words before leaving quickly. He just blinked. He really wasn’t sure what was going on anymore.

If Fefga wasn't enough, another arrival had to make itself known on the premises—and this one brought far less pleasant memories. Rather than memories of a peculiar girl playing in the snow or speaking to him in the hallway, memories of an ebon tower and a boundless desert wreathed in perpetual Night swarmed his mind. A sensation of raw power and fathomless taboo surged through his being, and Soren shut his eyes to brace against the sensation for that brief moment.

When it was gone, he opened his eyes and spotted Orthrus scratching at the attic door.

”Shht! Orthrus, stop that. Come here. Ah-ah! I said stop!”

It took a few moments of enforced hushing to draw the pup away, and the researcher flopped back against the wall. So much trouble in so much time. It made his head spin.

He was attempting to listen to the proceedings below, but it was too muffled by what walls and floors were in the way. How ever he heard anything at all was a bit of a miracle. Soren craned his head back and considered shutting that window overhead now that it had no use being open.

And then he heard his name.

Or at least, he thought he did.

And he could not repress a nervous bristle, his hackles standing on end. Was he being called for? Had he just imagined it? In a moment of slight panic, he wondered whether he ought to emerge or if he was to remain in hiding. Was he to continue research in the face of everything that had come up? Was he to go back into reinforced hiding? Or was he to show his face and offer his services, risk any number of consequences that awaited the sage?

Soren decided he'd sit there. If someone wanted him, they could come calling for him.
