You might still be able to get the boxset; I bet they didn't just release it for 3 months and then bury it - they only said they would smile Yeah, Hayden was one of the things I objected most to. And Han shoots first, thank you very much. He's a pirate, he's not going to let a bounty hunter *sitting 3 feet away from him* get the first shot in. And nor is a bounty hunter going to miss from that distance....

I never really did let myself get caught up in that "Who shot first?" debate. The way I see it..... Greedo missed, end of story. : P

Finally bought myself the shiny edition of Nosferatu.
Needed to be done.

Must confess that I'm happy with the simple Creative Commons edition I downloaded. smile

What makes that edition worth getting?

Longest cut available, highest quality print they can find, new musical score that suits the film fairly well.
Plus, I sort of prefer owning things on disc, I realise.

Les disques sont arrivees biggrin

Yep, my Mysterious Cities of Gold DVDs were duly picked up from the post office depot this morning. Happily, they seem to work well and no problem with SECAM v PAL. Also happily, I can understand enough of the French. C'est fantastique biggrin

Who knows? If DiC are finally releasing Sonic, maybe MCoG won't be too far behind...

Finally got myself Onibaba, which I've been meaning to look at for the last 3 years.
We'll see how it lives up to its considerable reputation.

Rather well, as it turns out.
Fine film.

That was an HMV exclusive for the UK, wasn't it? Might be worth looking into multi-region alternatives....

That's what Nero's for. wink

Sorry - I bundled Nosferatu, The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari and Le Voyage Dans La Lune onto the same DVD for ease of reference.

True, true, but I lack a drive capable of writing these things. Plus, I like my high-quality prints of Cabinet and Nosferatu.

Anyway, just indulged myself in the 60s Japanese art masterpiece (or so I hear it called), the 3-hour long supernatural epic that is Kwaidan.
Once again, my expectations are high.

You know, even with the amound of arthouse-type film I watch, I don't run across something I could call a masterpiece very often.
Kwaidan is quite definitely such a film.

I very much hope you'll enjoy Pan's Labyrinth.

Need to pick it up myself, come to think of it.

Anyway, I bought myself Them!, out of a need to acknowledge the genre it started in my collection.

Still not watched Pan's Labyrinth, but it is on my list. I borrowed Ultraviolet off my brother. It's like Res Evil redux, but not as interesting. I imagine though that certain folk are happy just to watch Milla Jovovich with funny coloured anime hair.

I've been watching the complete Count Duckula series 2 and it absolutely rocked. Absolutely no special features, but two discs and a pretty reasonable price - *and* we got it before the US, although it appears to be region 0, so there's no reason why you guys can't buy the British edition and therefore continue to fill Cosgrove Hall's pockets smile

There are 19 episodes on the discs and I now know that it was halfway through series 2 that they added extra sound effects to the opening credits. What can I say, I always wondered...

There were a couple of episodes on there that I've never particularly loved, but these are more than made up for by the following.

"Bloodsucking Fruitbats of the Lower Amazon" - Igor seeks a replacement bat to bite his lordship, the original one having converted to "cocoa and choccy biccies".

"Amnesiac Duck" - self-explanatory really, but it means Igor gets to try and convert his lordship into a proper vampire.

"Primetime Duck" - Transylvanian Television comes to Castle Duckula and finds that Igor is more count-like than the Count.

"The Incredible Shrinking Duck" - Von Goosewing shrinks the Castle and its denizens and places it inside a lovely little snowglobe - then promptly loses it.

"Arctic Circles" - Take me from this steaming hole to somewhere near the Northern Pole. It's time to go, so this is it, come on, Castle, hit the grit!

The whole thing reminded me how much I wanted to be able to disappear into a thundercloud and reappear somewhere else when I was younger. Kind of like Apparating - if I could do that, I'd never walk anywhere! smile

It also reminded me how cool Castle Duckula was. I would love to live in an old castle like that, with dungeons (er, I mean basements, basements, whoever said dungeons?! *evil laugh*) and attics and a lumber room and about a million corridors and tumbledown walls & balconies and stained glass windows and gargoyles and towers and pinnacles... Let us not forget the "liberary" with books with such titles as "Lycanthropy for Beginners".

A final word: the gag credits are amazing. While some are just silly, such as "Miss Bott's Wardrobe: In Miss Bott's Bedroom" or "Makeup: M. A. Skara", others are inspired and even erudite. I particularly like "Ghosts: Henrik Ibsen" and "Fish: Isaac Walton". I mean, I had to go look those up. Genius!

I am getting sucked into Gargoyles at the moment (thanks for the lend, Samwise!). Cracking score, good voice cast (including the ability for the viewer to play "spot the Next Gen actors"). Jonathan Frakes is actually cool smile Oh and Matt Frewer just turned up, although this did trigger a mild argument with a friend of mine as to whether his finest performance was as Max Headroom or in the Pink Panther & Hercules.

Interesting plot, although the Scottish accents are somewhat dodgy. Mind you, I say this as a person who has a soft spot for the Mighty Max episode "Werewolves of Dunneglen", which has the worst Scottish accents ever. We're talking worse than Rose Tyler's attempts in "Tooth & Claw".

Good animation too, from back in the days before Disney came up with Schnookums & Meat *shudders* At least I assume it was before.

I don't think it'll ever dethrone Darkwing Duck as my favourite Disney series, but it's still a very entertaining way to pass a dark & stormy evening smile
