My mother's maiden name is Impastato, which is a great little Italian name.

I could have been Dave Impastato! How cool is that?

I'm kinda mad at my dad for marrying her and messing it up. xp

Oh man! How awesome! You're Italian? blaugh

I hope I can marry a Hispanic guy so I can get myself a sexy name. razz Weird, yes. I know... rofl

Yup. My mom's full-blooded Italian. biggrin

Her grandmother came to America (New York, where my mom is from, actually) from Sicily, so I'm half-Italian.

My dad's side is basically everything else. stressed

It's mostly Norwegian and English, though, which is cool.

Nice! Have they taught you some Italian? That surname is funny and symbolic the same way, it means "mixed" surprised

Oh, cool, I didn't know what it meant! biggrin

Unfortunately, my grandmother on my mom's side passed on before I was born, so I don't know any Italian besides the small amount I've taught myself. neutral

But I do recall my mom telling me one time about how she remembers her grandma used to encourage her to eat more when she was a kid, and she would say "mangia, mangia"! xd

I'm sorry for that sad
Ah! rofl that's typical of that generation and of the following; my grannys always said that when I was a kid; that's because during the 2nd world war they were teens and there wasn't almost anything to eat...same thing for the 1st world war...

Ahh, yeah, that makes sense.

I definitely intend to learn Italian someday, to get in touch with my cultural heritage and whatnot.

Maybe when I have more time on my hands to devote to it. sweatdrop

My Spanish name would probably be Catalina (my name is Katherine).

If I put my name in Esperanto, I'd probably make it Katida. It's similar to Katie, and it means kittenish. biggrin

One of my favorite names is Lucia. I'm not sure why. It's just another version of Lucy, but I think it's really nice.

In French, I've gone by Suzanne, my middle name, for simplicity. That and I was having an identity crisis when I started, and didn't want a new name.

For German, we got to pick names, and I picked Marlene, but my teacher usually forgets that and just uses the German pronunciations for our birth names, which is fine with me.

All the names I've had in language classes:
German - Liesl
French - Lise
Spanish - Lilia
Latin - ermmm I don't remember confused
Japanese - ロルル
Russian - Lara
Arabic - we didn't pick names
Finnish - Aada

I never took a Chinese class, but in undergrad I had a lot of Chinese friends and they gave me a Chinese name. I'm going to attempt typing in Chinese for the first time... I can't seem to find the other character. sad

That character is pronounced "li4," and means "jasmine". Do you remember the pronunciation of the other character? I might be able to guess what it is.

And not to throw the topic off too much but, what's the WEIRDEST name you've ever heard? Surname, firstname, whatever.

For me it's Snedlditetikasi (Czech, "He ate the squash to the child").

My actual name is Acoyani Garrido Sandoval. To think I thought it was the weirdest name in all the world... confused

That's your name?! razz
It' not weird, it's hott! blaugh

I fully agree-your name is seriously hot!

My name seems to be in a few languages. In Australian Aboriginal, my name means 'comes from the beautiful place.' In African it means 'the changing of the seasons,' and I discovered that my name is a shortened form of the Hawaiian name which means 'Moon Goddess.'
