"Right. Lady Luck can be a clue as good's any. Sometimes. 'Man with the golden arm''s another metaphor, or an actual pointer, then?"

She headed back to her desk, and stood frowning for a while. Then she swiped an old shirt off the back of an almost entirely hidden chair, and then proceeded to lift the bundle of files and books that occupied the seat.

"I guess you might wanna sit down; can't say I'm envying you your heels right now. Well, unless you're feeling in a rush, of course. I mean, time being of the essence or whatnot."

Beatrice right now had very little remembrance of the fact that just mere moments ago, the course of action intended had been a modest and probably not all that stressed conversation over a cup of bitter tea.

"'Man with the golden arm' is no metaphor. To be honest, haha, I wish he was... And thank you." Penn sat down; it wasn't easy standing or running in heels, and... what was it that she boarded this ship for again? "Of course, all I hear of him is one brutal story after another. Chills my own blood, and that's saying something."

Penn didn't like talking about this man; something about him didn't sit right, like even mentioning his name would beckon him. Sort of a 'Speak of the devil and he'll arrive' thing, except the Devil is more benevolent than this man.

"Ah, but then I'll have to admit I'm awfully darn intrigued. So, we've got Lady Luck being an analogy for the fact that really bad stuff happens; a legion of escaped criminals being the bad stuff that has happened; and a golden-armed man being intimidating. I think I see where this is goin'."

Beatrice resumed her walking back and forth across the room, and appeared deeply entranced by her own mind for a while. Then she stopped and looked back at Penn, and sighed.

"Except for the fact that I don't, really. But a golden-armed man can't be overly hard to find. Presuming, of course, one'd want to find him in the first place. What's so frightening 'bout him?"
PostPosted: Sat Sep 11, 2010 3:41 pm

"From the stories I've heard... every single person that man has met, he's killed them with his own bare hands. He, um, finds ways to let them live long enough to feel excruciating pain, and supposedly he had finally lost whatever semblance of sanity he had just moments after he got that golden arm. But how he got it, no one knows. Or, if they do know, they won't tell me. You can pretty much say the only thing that makes him human is his appearance... and even then, that's stretching it."

Penn began to tug on both her ears for a bit. It relieved her, if only for a moment, of the headache she gained just by bringing back up memories of those stories, the ones of the Man with the Golden Arm.

"...Um, we were here for tea... weren't we?" She hoped this would change the subject for the better.

And speaking of changing the subject... is Sinsario alright?

"This is a nice ship you got here." said Kurt Cobbs, standing in the doorway to the room the two women were conversing in.

Taking small steps, he walked into the room. He was of average height and an impressive athletic build. His left arm was artificial; a bronze mechanical limb. One could only imagine how he came to gain such an extreme appendage. Resting in the sash on around his waist was a sheathed sword.

It would be safe to assume he could use it with impressive tenacity if provoked.

"The name is Cobbs. Kurt Cobbs the Sky Demon." he said, removing his hat and goggles to show mock formality. "This is an impressive vessel you got here, Captain." he said looking around the room. "It's one of the best I've infiltrated so kudos. But I'm not here to marvel at your taste. I'm here for information." he said, his expression changing.

"I want to know everything you know about...The Man with the Golden Arm."

And now someone barges into this ship, claiming to be a demon. Penn looks at the man, taking notice to his mechanical arm, and then to his face. He had Kura's face, for sure, but... this simply wasn't him. Amnesia or maybe an identity crisis? But he wants information on that dreaded man. And so sudden, too.

"If you want info on the Man, ask the locals around Port Denia or something. I've nothing to say." She turned to face the window or something to keep her eyes from his face. Her curiosity and outrage only made her want to face him more and blurt out something stupid along the lines of 'What have you done with him and why do you have his face!?'.

Beatrice stood perplexed for a while, staring in awe at the lunatic who had apparently just now entered her own cabin on her own ship with no invitation whatsoever. To make matters worse, he was armed with both a sword as well as an unacceptable attitude. No great first impressions.

With some effort, she pulled her thoughts together, and took a few thumping steps towards Kurt Cobbs the Sky Demon, hand readily on her own rapier that was still hanging from her belt since the small excursion earlier.

"And since when did pretended flattering excuse trespassin', love? I reckon you've got manners to reconsider before you're gettin' anything 'round here."
PostPosted: Mon Sep 13, 2010 12:26 pm

Kurt kept his eyes on the woman near the window. She had given him the same exasperated look he'd give her. It was a feeling he couldn't shale but one he'd have to address later.

"I wouldn't exactly call it 'trespassing'" he said, making quotation mark signs with his hands. "I'd call it 'Successful Infiltration'." he said. "But..believe it or not I'm not here to do you any harm and I will behave myself."

He removed the sword from his sash and threw it at the captain's feet. "See? No sword means no problems." he said, holding his hands up showing he had no other tricks up his sleeve.

He didn't even have sleeves to begin with.

"So much to infiltrate. You're way in over your head", Beatrice grinned provocatively. As Kurt disarmed himself of all visible equipment that could be considered direct weapons, she raised an eyebrow and nodded with obviously pretended enthusiasm. "But well then, I'll take that as you know at least part of your stuff."

She let go of her own rapier, but didn't back away. She didn't want to give him more ground on her own ship, and that was, she decided, on psychological grounds as well as strategical. Hands now on her hips, she stretched into her full length—not that it was all that remarkable, but she was at least almost as tall as him—and continued:

"Now, I'll be guessing I'm not the one you've come to see, but I'd suggest you elaborate on the reason for your business here. In exchange for the remarkable hospitality I've shown you so far, you know."

Outside the ship, in the canyon, all was quiet, except for the water dropping down the rock walls and a flapping sound that might have been a flag, or perhaps the sails of one of the airships. All was still, except for a small shadow in a wall crevice. A head poked cautiously around the corner. Everything stayed still; everything stayed quiet.

The shadow slowly eased the sky surfer out of the crevice. It peered down at the remains of other surfers below.

Fools. Never listen when someone calls you idiot. Never fly too near an unknown airship. Never look when someone tells you to.

The shadow had a brief flicker of something that might have been grief, but it passed quickly. The sky surfers had been convenient strangers, but there was very little attachment.

The shadow steered slowly down towards the wreck, hugging the canyon walls and keeping an eye on the airship. The new arrival would be a distraction for sure, but it was difficult to count on that--they might simply toss him off the ship. Those aboard the ship were of vastly different characters, and you never knew who would win those sorts of arguments.

The shadow reached the wreck, much less shadowy away from the canyon walls. A cloak was thrown back over the shoulders, now that the rain was no longer an issue, and a pair of decent eyes could see that the figure underneath was female. She tied the sky surfer lightly to the railing and dropped quietly onto the deck. She couldn't risk a light, so she was forced to try to identify the dead faces in the dark. After a moment, she found what she was looking for. He was half under another corpse, which she rolled aside. She grabbed his hand and pulled off the ring, examining it briefly in what light there was before dropping it down a long glove. For a moment, she moved as if to get up, but froze. She listened for a second, then moved into a crouch with her back against a wall as silently as possible. Someone was there.

"Have you ever heard of the pirate crew 'The Clockwork Brigade'?" he said, getting right to the point; his face twisting into a scowl as he said it. "I think our friend Golden Arms is in cahoots with him and if that's the case, finding him could lead to me finding them."

"I'll spare you the boring details and just tell you that they are the ones responsible for my missing arm and they killed someone very close to me and left me for dead. I've been after them for years and I think I have a real lead here." he said, almost excitedly.
PostPosted: Tue Sep 14, 2010 10:22 pm

Left for dead...? More and more suspicious.

"If you think this man with the Golden Arm is going to lead you to that pirate crew... to be honest I think you're very far off. All I've heard about him, he works alone and even the nastiest of pirate crews avoid him. But I've only heard so much, and they probably blow him out of proportion a few times. Still..."

Penn kept her gaze towards the window. So long as she was a guest, hopefully this wouldn't be her fight. Hopefully.

"Whoa, whoa, wait-wait-wait", Beatrice stuttered. "So I'm not as educated in this here matter as you are. I get you're both familiar this man. Right. And I get he's fittingly intimidating. That's all fine. I'm sure you'll take the time to get into the details eventually. But the main thing that's concerning me now is why you'd come here seeking answers. Seeing as I'm pretty much oblivious, I'd reckon you must've stalked us for quite the while now."

She gestured clumsily with her hands in front of her as she tied loose ends together. After having bombarded Kurt with that, she turned her face towards Penn—while still standing firm in front of 'the Sky Demon'—and added:

"And thus I'd also reckon that my visitor here—my invited visitor—is more involved with Mister McGoldarms than on the level of mere hearsay. Pray tell, does this all make me involved in a mess of any kind, or have I, as they say, just happened to wind up at the wrong place at the wrong time?"
PostPosted: Wed Sep 15, 2010 2:48 pm

"Wrong place, wrong time indeed." he said taking a few steps forward, again raising his arms showing he intended not to harm either of them.

"And to answer your second question, I heard about all the missing ships and whatnot. I thought maybe the Brigade had something to do with it so I came to investigate myself and noticed your ship was here so I boarded. I thought you might have been involved which would have lead me to information about The Clockwork Brigade so I decided to sneak on-board. Then I overheard you and your lovely guest here talking about out shiny friend and my interest was peaked." he explained moving around the captain so he was now standing in between the two women; the latter of which he turned to face. She was still looking out the window however.

"Golden Arm may be dangerous but The Clockwork Brigade is ten times worse. If anyone can persuade him to work join forces, it's them." he said.

Penn remained silent and facing the window. Now he didn't want to look at his face for an entirely different reason: heartache.

"If this Brigade is ten times as bad as you say they are, compared to him... well, I know even less about them. All I know is that what that shipwreck outside is about is a personal matter, and you should keep your nose out of this." The air around Penn began to heat up, but for the most part it was only a minor change (around five degrees hotter, actually). She didn't like this man's company... and yet something drew her to him.

It was like meeting a stranger with your lover's face. It was odd. Very odd.
