I speak Cant, listen/speak some Mand. I write traditional (the hard one) Chinese (like Hong Kong people). I like my own dialect more of course, but I think to the ear, Mand is more pleasing to a foreigner. sweatdrop xd

Really? Lol, I'm exactly the opposite then! xd And I can understand about a quarter of Mandarin... Speaking is more difficult though; I can't pronounce some stuff properly. However, I can say hello, goodbye, thanks, and easy things, like "I need this, I need that", etc... mrgreen

Although I try not to be biased even though I only speak Mandarin I am surrounded by Cantonese-speaking people at school and I must say I find Mandarin more pleasing to listen to.. the diction is clearer and it sounds somewhat lighter and more elegant. <3

To my ears, mandarin sounds very 'old' and too traditional. And whenever I hear mandarin I always get an image of those war films with communist soldiers in them shouting mandarin. xd Canto sounds more modern and although it sounds more 'chunky' and less flowing, to me it seems like a good language for making jokes and dissing people with.

Canto, besides the fact that I am one myself. xd
It's actually less formal than Mandarin. ^_^; And, well, not being my mother tongue, Mandarin will always sound strange to me. Even if I'm surrounded by Mandarin friends. o.O
