Layla sighed as he described flying, "it sounds amazing Pyros, you're so lucky to have wings" she said, trying to imagine how it felt. She lay down next to him, feeling brave enough to actually curl up to him "in case the fire goes out, we wont get cold" she explained matter of factly, yawning widely. She nudged him with her shoulder "i'm sorry for being a stuck up meanie" she said, "dont worry about my side, it'll heal and you WERE only defendding yourself, you did try to stop" she said lightly, curling her now nicely groomed tail around him.

Pyros looked at her, surprised at both her warming up to him and the fact that he had let down his guard. He had been so set on being an a** to her, not letting her in. Just heal her wounds and kick her out- that was the plan. However, things had changed. He found her warmth comforting and a feeling of calm overcame him. He had hoped she would decide to stay, or at least stick around in the area. He then contemplated if he'd follow to wherever she went, should she decide to leave.
Pyros moved his tail and curled it around the both of them, hoping she wouldn't get too cold.
Suddenly his ears perked up, for the sound of snapping twigs outside startled him. He swiftly sat up and looked near the opening- he had forgotten to close it up. He had been careless just as before, but this time he was sure he would have enough time to tie it shut. He ran toward the entrance, a foul smell filling his nose as the cracking steps creeped ever closer...he was about to pick up the first vine when a humongous black silhouette appeared in the night right in front of him.
He stared into glowing yellow eyes and heard a low growl, Pyros froze for a second. "Hide Layla!" he yelled loudly as he charged toward the beast, whatever this thing was he promised himself right then and there that he wouldn't let it hurt her.
Upon charging the beast out of the burrow's entrance, he suddenly felt a sharp pain- the thing had him in it's grasp.

Layla woke with a start, leaping up from her sleeping spot, in time to hear him shout to her to hide. frantically looking around for somewhere but seeing nothing big enough. She turned towards Pyros, her whole being filled with dread at the sight "PYROS! NOOO!" she screamed, at the 'thing' had him in its jaws, a shadowy aura clouding its features, she cringed, not knowing what to do. Suddenly she gathered up what courage she had, yelling nonsense she leapt at the 'thing' her stubby claws extended, teeth bared "NO!" she yelled angrily at the creature.

The large being dropped Pyros as he let out a whimper. He saw the large beast turn to Layla, and even though he was in so much pain he leaped in between them and flared his wings and much as he possibly could. He ducked his head down and began growling, his would bleeding greatly. With a couple growls and the bearing of his horns, the beast reluctantly fled into the darkness of the forest, most likely not wanting to take any chances.
After he was sure the thing was gone, he collapsed into his own blood. One of his wings had been torn and there were teeth gashes in his back. His fur was ruffled and matted, and his eyes were closed. He was still alive though, still breathing.
He opened his eyes enough to see Layla, to see that she was safe...and he noticed that it had begun to rain.
The falling raindrops matted his fur even more, and washed away the blood.

Layla slammed into Pyros as he leapt between her and the creature, "Pyros no" she hasped, watching dumbstruck as he bled profusely "please no" she whispered. She collapsed to her knees beside him, "oh Pyros, please get up, lets get in the dry" she whispered into his ear, desperatly tring to clean his wounds, to get the to close up and stop bleeding so much, she didnt dare move from his side.

He looked at the worry in her eyes and forced himself up. He felt dizzy and lightheaded but made the short trip into the burrow.
'You'd better stay back Layla, I don't want to ruin your pretty fur," he laughed quietly.
"Oh Layla, smile just a little."
He made it onto inside and looked at the doorway.
"Do you think you can close it? I'd do it but..."
He stopped and passed out, exhausted from both the pain and the struggle.

Letting him lean against her they made it into the burrow, Layla brushed aside his joke, "oh who cares" she said, setting him down gently. "I can do it, i remember the knots" she said, worried, but glad that he was aware enough to remember the vines. waiting until he was comfy she tied the vines across, weaving leaves between them to make it look natural. Almost panicking as he passed out, she looked around, and spied some of the herbs he'd fed her when she'd hurt herself, chewing them up so that they were all mushy she dribbled the juices into his mouth. Then finding some broad leaves she rubbed what was left of the herbs on his wounds and stuck torn up strips of leaf to them, hoping that it would stop him bleeding so much.

"you're an idiot" he choked, slightly coughing. "I never would have forgiven myself if you had been hurt...or worse."
He rested his head on her soft fur, noticing the blood stains.
"Look, you're covered in blood," he said, lifting his paw to wipe it off. He winced in pain as he tried. "I'm sorry, I can't..."
He felt so helpless, like he had let her down.
"I'm supposed to be caring for you," He said.
He thought for a second, and then realized something...
"We need to get rid of that thing, whatever it is. We can't live like this," he grunted, trying to get up.

"And i'd never have forgiven lyself for letting you get hurt because of me, so we're even" she said, smiling softly. she got annoyed when he fussed over her fur "it'll clean jsut stay still and try not to bleed anymore" she said, trying to make a joke.looking to the entrance she nodded, "now it knows where we live, those vines wont last forever" she mused, not even realising she'd said 'where WE live' .. automatically throwing the both of them together, "you already took care of me, now its my turn"

"You're right, that means we need to move. I'm more exhausted than anything else, so tomorrow we'll head out. I won't take no for an answer either. I won't be able to fly anyway, but I can sure as hell walk. I- wait, we?"
He didn't mean to sound rude, but he was just surprised at her words. He shook his head to stay focused.
"It's not safe here. We're in the Ardanshir Forest right now, and we need to choose where to go. I'm not familiar with a lot of places so I'm leaving it up to you."
He slowly stood up, now that the bleeding had mostly stopped, and made his way to a corner of the burrow. He lifted up a corner of the mat and dug a little bit until he found what he was looking for. It was small blue seashell, lined with an iridescent mother-of-pearl. It was a gorgeous shell that his late partner had given him as a gift on the first day they had met. It had remained buried there as a place of safe keeping for a very long time, and if they were moving forward and not coming back...he wanted to be sure to take it with him. It was all he had left of her.
"So, where are we headed?" he asked.

Layla sighed in relief, he seemed stronger already. respectfully she looked away when he dug, feeling it was something specially personal to him. When he'd finished she moved to him, "yes we" she said licking his cheek, "but first, clean up, then maybe we can start at the beach" she suggested, eyes shining slightly.

"I must taste like rain and blood. Not to mention the slobber of that thing..." he grunted. He knew he smelled awful. "The beach is perfect, I need a good clean washing. We can go from there, but we need to get out of the forest now that the both of us are injured."
He began to chuckle a little bit. "You know, I'm sorry I let you think I was a lot worse than I am. It's just that no one has ever cared for me like that, and it was a nice change. I know, I know, I'm a stinker." he laughed. "Ok, no laughing, I am actually hurt," he said, wincing from the pain that came from laughing too much. "Now get some rest, I'll gather up what's left of the food and then rest myself."

At this Layla frowned, and wagged a claw at him "oh no you dont, you're more injured than me I'LL gather the food together while you sleep, then i'll wake you later" she said, gettingher bossy head on. She kicked some more sticks on the fire, then turned and started gatehring the food together on a leftover big leaf.

Pyros was in pain, so he quietly layed down.
"Don't stress your wounds, you're hurt as well," he said, "and promise me you'll wake me if you hear anything rummaging outside?"
He watched her for a bit, this mysterious female that had come out of nowhere. Her fur a beautiful cream color, and her markings accentuating her features. He wanted to ask where she had gotten the bracelet she wore constantly, but hesitated and layed his head on his paws. He was far too tired to even talk.

Layla smiled kindly, watching him drift into sleep, keeping a check on his breathing.
"just sleep, don't worry about me" she said softly.
She looked him over, once again admiring the muscles visible beneath his smooth fur, his markings were handsome, and his face looked almost peaceful in sleep
