^ ^;

I really hope so.

Anyway, as far as "best in state" goes, I met the best jazz pianist under 18 in NM when I was visiting a college I really want to get into.

He was surprisingly mellow.
Though he (or his mom, I don't remember who) said something about not knowing how he would have compared to kids in other states.

I quit my orchestra.

They weren't very nice were the people I was with.

I was the youngest first clarinettist and I wouldn't say I was the best because we are/were all absolutely incredible.

Although thinking about it, I went to a Young Musician of the Year and although I lost - because they gave priority to the older students, self-admittedly - the invited me to play my solo Mozart concerto in a concert hall because they kept going on about how good I was.

Didn't ask any of the others to do that.

I'm not the best in my section, but I guess according the directors, I'm 2nd. Far from state player though. I'll be there soon enough, but I haven't even made region yet. I've still got a LOT of room for improvement, but I'm not bad.
The director does say he's "pleased" and "proud" of me, but that just means he's expecting more from me. Which is cool.
I'm expecting more from myself.

It's difficult to say. My band doesn't have the same chair system as everyone else; we just have juniors and seniors on first part and freshmen and sophomores on second. This may sound dreadfully conceited, but last year, as a freshman, I came back after a two-year absence and at the beginning of the year was probably the worst flauteress in the band. (At the time of my leave in seventh grade I was arguably the best musician in the band and a total teacher's pet. Eurgh.) After vigorous practice after the first few months, by January I was likely the best of the freshmen and sophomores and better than some of the juniors. Now that the seniors have left -- they were pretty obviously the most skilled -- and the class that will be seniors and the class moving up to freshmen next year aren't that great (again, not to sound bitchy and conceited) I may be one of the best.

On the other hand, though, my BD favours the best musicians and he can't stand me. I don't claim to be the best, but I do try. And I can't sight-read worth crap anymore, that may be part of it.

My band director tends to make fun of the really good players in addition to some of the bad ones.
I get made fun of a lot, but I think that's mostly because I make fun of him first.

One time my friend and I busted out the projector and the screen in the band room. I had my PS2 out in a flash, and before my director knew what was happening, he came downstairs to see me and my friend playing Soul Calibur III.
I made a character named after him, a male Dancer class, made to look like Hitler. When he looked at the screen, he saw a guy with his name dancing with tambourines and spreading his legs... and who happened to look like Hitler.
Later my friend made another guy named after him, but a big burly man in a pink speedo. It was one helluva battle, I tell you. Our director had no idea what was going on.

(Btw, my friend and I are the president and vice president for next year. I have no idea how he puts up with our nonsense.)

In my school we don't have chairs, but if you're calling chair the best person in clarinet, flute, sax's ect. I am the best in both Clarinet and Alto sax, I double on both. My band/music teacher, he does both, LOVES to make fun of me, but that's because I make fun of him too. He puts up with A TON from me and a fellow player Alex, Alex and I just goof off but he doesn't mind because we always learn music and what not. We're that cool Band geeky.

Ayia. I'm grade 12 this year. And Now that my buddy in the Clarinet section who was unbeatibly the best has graduated.... It's up to me. Lovely. We're playing Africa - Ceremony, song and Ritual by Robert W. Smith.. if any of you have heard it it's a crazy song. More demanding on percussion than anything else. -.- But anyways I really hope this song doesn't fall apart. it's an amazing song. I hope i can pull this new section together. There's so much pressure on my part to help everyone!

Yeah. I just finished my last year in middle school, but @ my middle school, I was top band top chair clarinet player. People from other schools, and even the DIRECTORS over at those schools knew me. ANd I had no clue who they were. I'm going to my first year in highschool after the summer ends, and although I'm obviously not the best, I still made it to the top band, so I have some upperclassmen who are envious of me...and some who want to kill me... xp

I think I'm either best or in second. I don't really know. ^^; When the band director asks a certain section to play something (e.g. If he heard someone in that section play something wrong), some people get nervous and play wrong, and some are just flat...and then I'll play it and he's all like, "Did you hear how smooth that was?" Or something. And then everyone looks at me. It's very embarassing sometimes...

Someone from my old school (there were only 3 clarinet people back then o.O) is in my school, and he's pretty good. So it's either him or me...:3

When we tested for chair seatings, I got the highest score. My band director told me I could easily make district band, which no trumpet from my school has made in seventeen years.

I was the best on every instrument in the band xd I play roughly 20 instruments, including every one we had in the band and I was the best at them all.
Now I'm in the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, and first chair clari. Best in orchestra.
It has never been pressuring for me, just "Learn it, know it, help everyone else" meh.

I was the best of the trumpets in 7th grade, but idk if anyone has improved. When we tested i always got 10 outa 10 and in solo i got an 1 and i tried out for being certified to play taps for funerals and got that but didnt place in the state. stressed But the closest person to me is very snobby and bitchy, i could rip off his head and s**t down his neck.

Unonamous
I just wanted to know how many people are going to the same thing I'm going through.Everyone complimenting you, always telling you you're the best and your band directors always expecting more out of you. I mean I'm only a freshman I've not had as much musical experience as much as the only trumpets in my section.
