I have a few bad habits. Let's see...

-I read very late into the night, no matter what I have to do the next day. I had to get up for the SAT on only an hour of sleep. redface

-I pick up a book when I'm really tired, so I fall asleep and end up having to fish my book out from between my wall and bed.

-I read at the dinner table. My family has come to accept this, and I've never spilled anything on my books -I'm a freakishly neat person, and a picky eater to boot-, so even though it's a bad habit, I haven't been punished for it. biggrin

I do the first two as well. sweatdrop

But my mother would never allow me to eat at the dinner table. I don't eat while I read, anyway. It gets too confusing with only two hands.

I used to fold over the corners of pages instead of using bookmarks or whatever (thank god I don't do that now). Now I don't generally use bookmarks of any kind, I just remember the page that I'm on.

Sometimes I read under my bedcovers just using a torch at night, which is probably bad for my eyes, and if I need to leave a book but know I'll return shortly, I'll leave it open and face down, although that's bad for the spine. I need to stop doing that, really.

i miss place books or leave them in random spots on the floor or something and whenever someone bothers me while reading i bark at them. (no not like a dog!)

Let's see...
I used to dog-ear the corners...but I pretty much got that beaten out of me in 4th grade smile Now I just keep book marks and tabs everywhere
I'd fall asleep reading and usually the book would either end up under the bed or crushed under me!
I don't really consider this a "bad habit", but sometimes....I sometimes make notes in my books, just thoughts or revelations or marking quotes I like...and occasionally I'll start to do that to library books. Oops! sweatdrop

Here's my list:
-I read in dim light
-I don't bother with bookmarks half the time
-I leave them on the floor
-I put them wherever there's room
-I leave them in the kitchen (where everything gets sticky)
-I read at the dinner table
-I'll read until very late at night, and then end up flinging it across the room right after I fall asleep.

another bad habit: I read eight books at the same time without bookmarks and forget what page I am in which. Therefore ending up reading from page 111 when I am actually at page 56 in that book -.-;

It's not exactly a bad habit but I read when going inbetween my classes and my school has stairs and half my classes are on the second floor so one of these days I'm gonna fall down the stairs, probably taking a few of my friends with me.

I'm overly obsessive when it comes to books. I try to keep mine in perfect condition, caring for the spine more than I would care for my own children... And I can't stand lending out books because then when I get them back they're a little beat up and it makes me crazy! So yes. Obsessive compulsive when books are concerned.

I used to do many of the things that have been mentioned so far... Used to dog-ear (so long ago that I can't even remember when), used to read by the light of my night-light (so you can imagine how long ago that was), used to leave them upside-down (I yell at anyone I see doing that, now)...

But, I've seen the light. I stopped doing all of that for reasons that I can't remember (though I'm fairly certain that something a friend said to me about how she took care of her own books struck me as something to do).

Now, I've actually gotten over-protective of my books. I open them just enough to be able to read what's on the page (I actually complained to my teacher about having to open a brand new book, as it'd 'ruin the spine'), and I use anything around me as a bookmark (as long as it's not so big that it'll make the book bend)...and I constantly check any book that I'm letting a friend read, just to be sure that they're not doing anything at all to it (I lent a few books to a friend just the other day, and I told her that if they're bent even a little, she'll have to pay me back for them...).

I guess I could possibly consider the last item to be a bad habit. And, while I see nothing wrong with it, personally, I read at the table (after I'm finished eating, as I have to wait before I can get up) as long as my grandma's not over. I also read any chance I can get during school, and often get yelled at for doing so...

And then there's the fact that I have so many books that I hardly know where to put them. Good thing is that I reread them once I can't remember most of the details (which can take any time between months and years...) unless I suddenly get an urge to read a certain book. Then I kinda abandon any book that I'm reading (and I'm normally reading more than one at a time) and read that one, and then forget about the books I had been reading.

There's probably more, but I can't remember them off the top of my head.

~Reading in dim light (I now have reading glasses I don't really use for anything other than stand music because I gave myself an astygmatism (sp))
~Reading instead of being social
~Reading instead of sleeping
~Reading instead of doing homework
~Buying books when I already have a large pile of 'to read' books
~Starting a new, more interesting book while in the middle of a different one (I'm currently reading 7 books...I think...)
~Being over caring for my books
~Hitting people with my books...then apologising to the book...
~Reading while walking...
~etc.

btw: I'm such a book freak that I become motion sick if I'm in a vehicle for a while and I don't read

Instead of getting little tabs to mark pages in the book I like...I dog ear the pages out of pure laziness. sweatdrop I'm sure I make the book gods VERY angry.
