"What you need. But I must caution you, use only the spell you originally sought, nothing more."
Thankfully the author's name had been obscured by years of wear.
It was not Emma's name, but shared the last two words of it.

Spent my days with a woman unkind, Smoked my stuff and drank all my wine. Made up my mind to make a new start, Going to california with an aching in my heart.

"I-if this area is something best left alone," Kaok said weakly, the thought of something even Emma would not touch worrying her. She held the book as far away from herself as possible without being obvious. "In all reality, my dilemma could be solved much more easily. Leaving alone what is best left alone is more important than a reunion with an old friend."
Or more, if what you suspect is true, her mind told her.
"I wouldn't feel as comfortable talking with someone else about it. It would seem to be a matter of shame." She looked around. "But I have suspicions in the way of my... well, lineage. And the man who could well be my father hung himself near a decade ago. On top of this, he's quite human."
"I apologize for asking you of something that would break your laws, and I would gladly seek an alternative method for finding out what I want to know."Someone told me theres a girl out there With love in her eyes and flowers in her hair. Took my chances on a big jet plane, Never let them tell you that theyre all the same.

"I advise you to choose the other option...for the sake of your sanity and soul."
Her gaze was haunted.
"I would rather gnaw off my own hand than use nec- that magic."
The book flew back to her hands, and not of her own accord.

The Lieutenant stepped back a little, reminding herself never to speak of the subject again to Emma. Or anyone for that matter.
"Once again, Lady Emma, I apologize... I-. I'll find out some other way. Thank you, and good night."
The Faun bowed, and winced at the noise of her hooves on the floor as she left.
If it came to it - Kaok would approach the only remaining living person that knew the answer, no matter what it meant.Someone told me theres a girl out there With love in her eyes and flowers in her hair. Took my chances on a big jet plane, Never let them tell you that theyre all the same.

Emma stood for a moment, clutching the aged grimoire to her chest with something resembling- affection?
And broke down in tears the moment she was sure the faun was out of sight.

If Emma had any 'Detect Evil' spells up they were going haywire when Zach, taken over by Ivan, entered the perimeter of the library. She stood on the edge of the library and looked in. Ivan knew that they were standing on the edge of a knife and that he would probably get blasted if he forced a step in. But there was probably a book in there that would serve his purposes...
"Hey," Ivan called out. "I'm lookin' for the librarian. Hello?"

Alnette slipped inside the library with a silent yawn. She was brushing up on her necromancy, but the Necropolis's library happened to be lacking on a particular portion of the art. She figured there would be a book here covering the subject. Her golden contacts glinted in the soft light of the library and she glanced around to see if any of the books popped out at her.

The wards were, in fact, going haywire. The mistress of the library stepped out from behind Zach, holding a slender rapier in one hand and a sphere of violet flame in the other.
A whisper sounded in Alnette's mind.
You'll find nothing about that art in here, Alnette...nothing that can be given freely.

The whisper in her mind startled her, though it was slightly disappointed. With a sigh of resignation she stood up and turned to leave the library, but paused, thinking if there was anything else she needed to find a book on. She knew there was something else, but she wasn't sure what.

I am sorry I cannot help you directly, I am occupied at the moment.
Emma stood absolutely still, sword in hand and spell in the other, waiting.

I-it is-- fine. Alnette had a sketchy grasp of mindspeech so she hoped, Emma had heard it. Do you need a hand? I could help you if you need it.

She had heard.
I would not ask that of you. However, I would advise you to stay where you are.

Ivan turned around slowly and looked Emma up and down. He guessed that she either owned or cared for the library. Or both. Either way she was being very hostile. And who could blame her?
"You in charge here?" Ivan had grown accustomed to using Zach's voice. "Awesome. I'm looking for a book on... hell, I dunno. What was the last book I, er, he... she looked at here?"

She was not in charge, but she was second-in-command. But, that was not necessary information.
"Answer this question and I will answer yours. Who-or rather, what are you?"

All right, I will remain here, but remember-- If you need help, do not hesitate to ask me for it, I will willingly offer it.
