"About you being a dumbass? Yeah." She gave him a smile, though did as suggested and quit talking, grunting slightly now that the pain wasn't distracted by the conversation.

Roxanna came back in, followed by an older man who was carrying a medical bag. He made his way to Kat, tsking loudly as he went to work. Kat didn't keep her quiet for long, and gave the doctor an earful, before she was forced to swallow some drugs and quieted down.
Roxanna stood close by, turning to Jeffery. She'd changed into a dry robe, though her hair was still wet. "She'll be fine, at least I hope. If you'd like I can send for a car to take you home, wherever that may be."

The talk with Kat, and Lincoln's unnescesary bloodlust had done something funny with Rook's mind. As he laid, floating in the water, Rook decided to walk away from the organization. Lincoln's brutality, and the referance to the explosion that flattened a city in the midlands, as well as the Keeper's willingness to repeat that if it turned out St. Eva was too much, hung over his head.
The short-term goal, however, was simple enough- Play dead. Sink. Down and down, sink. And then find Kat. Her, a bullet hole and some dude weren't going to hold up long, especially with Lincoln's mad-on for her. But for now, he just had to play dead, patiently waiting for Lincoln to note the sinking body.

"Sure, kid." Jeffery smiled. He stood up as the doctor and Roxanna walked in, giving the man some room. He frowned at Roxanna, motioning her to step with him away from the doctor. He spoke in a hushed voice, "first I want some answers. The girl's lost too much blood to be coherent; what happened back there?"

"You'd have to be more specific with your questions, it would make them easier to answer. But yes, the girl isn't entirely coherent, she seems to trust people too easily." Roxanna glanced at Jeffery, noting the soaked clothes. "If you'd like, you could look through some of my husbands clothes to find something dry to wear. He was taller, but I believe some of his clothes may fit you."

Roxanna glanced at Jeffery, noting the soaked clothes. "If you'd like, you could look through some of my husbands clothes to find something dry to wear. He was taller, but I believe some of his clothes may fit you." "Alright, let's start with who those people were, and why they were trying to kill her, and anyone that got in the way." He glanced down at the floor, a small puddle of water. "Oh, sorry about that, yes, that'd be great."

Roxanna motioned for him to follow as she headed towards the master bedroom. "They are people who would kill her, or me, based on certain qualities that Kat and I were born with, despite the fact they share those qualities. They believe only a certain amount of people like us should be alive at a certain time, or it could be a danger to the world. Kat is what they refer to as a backslider, being she used to be among their ranks...was trained to be among their ranks and forced to be among their ranks, but betrayed them and set out on the run." Roxanna spun her words a bit more carefully than Kat, almost making the keepers sound like some odd self-hating supremacist group. She walked into the bedroom, and followed into the walk in closet, fishing around a moment before she came out with some clothes that looked like they'd fit Jeffery the best.
"As silly as it sounds they are a surprisingly powerful group, with very strong weaponry and advanced technology. Most backsliders don't survive long, particularly if they invoke the wrath of its members like Kat did." Roxanna handed him the clothes. "Don't get to attached, you likely won't be able to save her next time, and there will be a next time."

Linc swore loudly, his hands tightening as he imagined them ringing Kat's neck, then he turned and began swimming back towards what looked to be a coastguard in the distance.

"Qualities? So what are we talking about, you haven't been listening to Kat and her super powers?" He frowned, taking the clothes with a nod and thanks.

"That would be rude of you to ask," Roxanna gave him a smile, "super powers is a rather odd term to use, but there are definitely people with talents that go a little further than expected of a human. Why do you think I kissed Kat? Seemed somewhat of an odd thing that she trusted me so well after I did so, didn't it?" She let it fall, giving him a chance to come up with conclusions or not, then pointed to a series of screens in the room. "If you'd like, you can change behind the dressing screen, I promise not to peek."

"So she knows about people by kissing them? You can move things through the water? There's a secret society of villains that hunt down anyone with abilities?" He walked behind the screen, changing quickly, but still talking. "This is crazy. Wouldn't people notice when someone starts shooting lasers out of their hands?"

"The reason they kill us, is to keep things like that unknown. Most anyone who could shoot laser beams, or the like, are usually eliminated out right, even if they're innocent kids, simply because of the damage that it could cause. The term they use for themselves are 'keepers', or 'keepers of the quiet.' The point is to make sure no one notices when something unusual happens." Roxanna waited patiently, her arms crossed in a relaxed pose. "Twenty years ago, a very volatile young man leveled a city. The blame fell to Ireland, and a very very vicious war was started."
She paused, letting it sink in...or float. "It is crazy, but anyone who thinks the world isn't crazy, has been walking around with blinders."

"There's a difference between crazy and super powers, blowing up cities. How do they find them before anyone else? Assuming I believe this, one kid that can shoot lightning would blow the lid off of it."
He stepped out from behind the screen, wearing whatever the hell she had given him.

Rook had drifted down out of sight, where he shape shifted into something more suited for quick travel in the water, and made for the shore as fast as he could.
On the beach, all people saw was a young lady in a swimsuit walking out of the water, and towards the street, where she waved for a taxi.

"You just traveled from sea to a swimming pool, and have a difficult time believing. What makes you think everyone would believe in super powers if they saw a kid with lightning? Easily replicated. Technology makes excuses incredibly simple."
As he stepped out in the casual pants and button-up--or at least as casual as Nick regularly got--Roxanna stepped over and began fixing the collar by habit, before catching herself. "Sorry, Nick always left his collars crooked."
She stepped back, her hands moving to her sides. "For the most part it wasn't too difficult to keep things under hand. Gifts were rare, and they had many in their ranks who are very very good at tracking. One can sense the intense emotional changes that come with the development of a gift, another can pin a person down and know their position anywhere on the continent...until they leave that continent, which is one reason islands are so popular for Backsliders. Unfortunately for all of us, the rarity of gifts has taken a sudden turn, particularly in St.Eva, many are developing very rapidly."
