Ȃdriane ♠Ƚonertz ☆═━┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈━═☆ Once her classes ended for the day, Adriane changed out of her uniform and into her casual clothes before heading out onto the grounds. She was set to be meeting someone much later on in the forest, but she figured she may as well go a bit early. She was notorious for being late to classes and meetings with 'friends' were no different. Of course, it was rather inconvenient to have to go through the forest wearing a short dress and heels. And it hardly bothered her. She was so used to it that it was easy enough for her to walk through the undergrowth, though she would take sneakers any day.
When she reached the outskirts of the forest, she let her wand slip into her hand, and clutched it tightly. It was better to be on the safe side. Once in the forest, she sped through the trees almost as if she was in a trance, knowing her way around the forest well. Slytherin didn't take any of her surroundings into account, instead staring blankly ahead of her. It never occurred to her that something may be following, and when she felt something brush against her leg, she dismissed it as a stray plant. It was like this for a while until she heard something crash behind her. She stopped in her tracks, then tilted her head. After a moment, she turned back around, stepping over a particularly large vine when she did. Keeping her wand at the ready, she moved towards the sound, hoping to find something interesting.
Only to be promptly disappointed.
It was just Douglas. Being his normal, loser, boring self. She scowled, her face showing her obvious distaste. "Eugh. You really do have to destroy all that's good, don't you?" she called, looking at the discarded broom. First he had to try flying. Then he burst into her personal haven. The b*****d. Her attention turned away from the other fifth year to the boy standing not so far away. She recognized him as Ea, another Gryffindor, though a year older than her. He had a temper, and she appreciated that. Shifting her weight, she placed her hand on her hip and flipped her hair over her shoulder. If these two didn't prove to be interesting soon, she'd find another way to occupy her time.

~* E - a >+< C - o - n - w - a - y *~ "Aw, did my sarcasm hurt your feelings?" Ea had been shouted at, drenched, almost attacked by some monster dog, and spooked by both Douglas and this Slytherin girl Adriane, and now she was picking on Douglas. This put him in a visibly foul mood. 'Finally, something to explode on' he thought savagely, ignoring the other inner voice that was trying to keep him under control, dredging up the things that usually calmed him: Moxy his mother his sister or swimming in the lake; these usually did the trick. But not today.
You could see the somehow pent-up anger well up before he went off on the Slytherin, like a tiger beginning to snarl and roar. "Oi!" he shouted loudly, "How's about you shove off and leave him alone. He can't help it if he's an oaf." he snarled. An odd way to stick up for his friend; accidentally insulting him. But he didn't even realized that he'd said something mean, because the anger and letting it out even in that little shout made him feel so much better. It felt so good that he was begging inwardly for an excuse to use fire charms and go on a rampage. And that mad glint seemed to show in his eyes, which emanated anger like hazel flames. But then something he noticed about Adriane surprised him.
"And speaking ruining good things, why are you walking through the forbidden forest in that little number?" he asked, making note of her dress. It was nice and she looked pretty in it, but it didn't do much to distract him from being his usual angry self."Well, I guess you'll just have to go into your wee little emo-corner and have yourself a cry then."

Courage isn't the absence of fear; it's wearing a second pair of jocks and getting it over with.
Douglas Richard Thomson Douglas looked up and gave Ea a friendly grin. He practically scuttled over in his excitement. One look on his pal's face and it was obvious something was bugging him. Doug's face drooped a little and he opened his mouth to ask if Ea was okay. Nothing came out though, it was cut off by the sound of someone approaching and Ea's reaction. Was it just him or was Ea a little jumpy today?
When Douglas saw who it was, he gave a bit of a nervous smile. Sure, Adriane was a bit much at times but he was sure that under her frightful exterior there was a decent person who just wanted to be treated like everyone else. That's what every girl wanted, right, respect and fair treatment?
That was when Adriane kindly pointed out his broom mishap. Great, that was three people who knew that his rotten luck with heights hadn't changed. Ea's defence was a little sharp too. Oh well, that was Ea. He was good company and never seemed to mind when Douglas found some new way to "accidentally on purpose" get himself injured.
'Hey!' he exclaimed. 'Thanks for the confidence, Ea.'
Douglas then turned back and gave a slightly goofy grin in Adriane's direction. 'I, um. "Never give up," that's my motto. I'll get the hang of it eventually,' he said before moving a bit closer to her. The action was reminiscent of a horse tamer coming up to an untamed brumby. Maybe a compliment would help. Yeah, that would do it. 'You know, that scar looks really good on you. It gives you a dangerous, bad girl look.' There is a FINE LINE between COURAGE and STUPIDITY. I just crossed it.

Ȃdriane ♠Ƚonertz ☆═━┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈━═☆ Adriane watched as Douglas finally decided to stop looking like an idiot and scrambled over to Ea. Rolling her eyes, she was about to turn to leave when the sixth year spoke. Her eyes narrowed into a glare as she worked on figuring out what he had said. "How's about..." The word choice confused her, and she quickly came to the conclusion he was foreign before she shot a remark back at him. "Yes, he is a clumsy, skill less, rather worthless oaf. But he can be one somewhere else." The last part was hissed out, and she crossed her bare arms over her chest. She didn't care much for Douglas, which showed quite clearly. She also didn't much like it when people used her as a way to throw a tantrum.
Still glowering at Ea, she didn't notice that smile that Douglas sent her way, or the way he was babbling about never giving up. If she were him, she'd give up on everything. Right now. Ea spoke again, asking why she was running around in the forest wearing what she was. His English didn't confuse her quite as much as why he cared. From her past experiences, the boys she came across never had any problem with what she wore. Almost self consciously, she tugged the hem of the dress down so it wasn't up so high on her legs, then open her mouth the reply when she noticed how Douglas was getting closer. With her lips still parted, she took a few steps, only to stop when the Gryffindor spoke.
A twisted half smile forced itself onto her face, and she strained to keep it there. One corner of her mouth twitched repeatedly as she tried to refrain from blasting this kid to pieces. Mentioning the scar that ran down her cheek was the easiest way to get her angry, and her hands curled into fists, knuckles turning white against her skin "You say that as though it's something I can make appear and disappear." Her voice was strained, and she looked more than willing to use some unpleasant spell against him.

~* E - a >+< C - o - n - w - a - y *~ "Aw, did my sarcasm hurt your feelings?" Ea smiled inwardly at the self conscious way she tugged down her dress, satisfying that boiling anger for the moment. Having unleashed the anger he needed to, he was ready to 'make nice'. After all, he was trying to change (easier said than done) so he may as well make the effort. But then Douglas did something stupid.
Ea gave him a look that could make dragons have second thoughts. "You know how I called you an oaf?" he said, barely managing to keep his tone in check. He paused for a response before continuing on"You're doing a miserable job of proving me wrong!" Ea ran his fingers through his hand, closed his eyes and took a deep calming breath. Moxy poked her head out and nudged Ea behind the ear before retreating once more into the safety of his hood. She wanted to help, but she also didn't want to be spotted by that monster dog that was out there. Ea understood completely, and at her hesitance to come out of the hood, he looked around, not scared but wary. He looked distracted as his eyes momentarily scanned the brush. But as quickly as he'd lost focus on the conversation, he was back with his nonchalant expression, almost bored really. "I'm sorry about Douglas, he has no idea how to pass compliments obviously enough." Ea said."Well, I guess you'll just have to go into your wee little emo-corner and have yourself a cry then."

Courage isn't the absence of fear; it's wearing a second pair of jocks and getting it over with.
Douglas Richard Thomson Okay, so he wasn't really worried about anything Ea said, his pal didn't mean anything by his attitude. He also had to admit that maybe a scar like that was a sore spot, but hey, didn't girls like scars? Adriane's remarks, however, hit home in a big way. He took a short breath and the words came tumbling out. He couldn't even tell if they were understandable because his small-town accent took over. 'First of all, I'm not clumsy... I'm just... not too good with brooms. Second, I'm real good at Transfiguration. And third, I don't see how having a bit of fun makes me an oaf. It's a better way of spending time then opening your le-'gs to anything that touches you. Doug's mouth snapped shut and his eyes went wide when he realised what he'd almost said. He hadn't meant it, honest! He glanced at Ea as though for help and turned back to Adriane. After giving her the biggest apologetic look he could manage, he said, 'I'm really sorry. I didn't mean that the way it sounded... I think you're a nice girl. I mean, um, you're the most attractive girls in school and I really like being your potions partner.'
Oh sugar.
The words were plastered across his face. He couldn't have said anything worse if his drinks had been spiked with veritaserum. He wanted to run and hide, but no, he was a Gryffindor. He was going to make amends with Adriane one way or another. Maybe he could give her some of that special chocolate from Hogsmaede, the stuff that seemed to cheer anyone up.
OOC: ROFL! There is a FINE LINE between COURAGE and STUPIDITY. I just crossed it.

Ȃdriane ♠Ƚonertz ☆═━┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈━═☆ Adriane allowed a smirk to cross her face as Ea started to chide Douglas. The other fifth year had to be feeling a bit cornered by now, but she doubted it was something he wasn’t used to feeling. He didn’t exactly know how to carry a conversation without someone wanting to punch him. She glanced back over to Douglas, a look of distaste on her face that quickly disappeared when Ea spoke again. “I already know how bad he is with compliments. Trust me.” she commented. Adriane didn’t want to count how many times Douglas had tried to compliment her or try to get her to date him. She didn’t think that people could count that high. Her thoughts were momentarily broken when Douglas start speaking again, addressing what she had said earlier in the conversation. With his accent, it was hard to understand what he was saying, and she was really only able to understand the last bit.
Her eyes narrowed, and then the glower disappeared. Dropping her gaze to the ground, she crossed her arms over her chest and tapped one foot against the ground at a fast pace. After a moment, she took a sharp intake of breath, and ran the back of one hand over her eyes, wiping away the crocodile tears. Like always, Douglas didn’t know just when to shut up and continued talking, trying to make up for what he had just said. The Slytherin looked up at him, makeup smudged. There was a moment of silence after he finished talking before Adriane crossed the remaining space between her and Douglas and slapped him. “Bâtard .” she hissed, the false expression on her face stuck between anger and hurt. And on that lovely endnote, she turned sharply on her heel and walked away from the two boys.

~* E - a >+< C - o - n - w - a - y *~ "Aw, did my sarcasm hurt your feelings?" Knowing that Adriane did not fancy Douglas, he was going to suggest that they left. Lord knew it was only a matter of time before he really made an a** out of himself. But just as he was about to utter the words, Douglas did something that many men have been turned into frogs for. His friend didn't finish his sentence, but everyone knew what he was saying. Ea may not have been the nicest fellow, but he knew never to cross certain lines.
Douglas looked to him as if for help, but Ea just gave him a look that said quite clearly: 'You're asking the wrong bloke.' All the while Ea gave his friend an apologetic look. Poor Douglas tried to apologize and take back what he said, but it did little good. With a twang of pity he saw that Adriane was beginning to cry, mascara running down her pretty face. Ea hated it when girls cried. it made him think of his mother and sister, the only people he opened up to. It triggered a sort of urge to comfort though he wouldn't know where to start. She closed the distance between them and slapped Douglas across the face. The action made him blink and jump a little before he watched her walk off without saying a thing to stop her.
Ea turned on Douglas, glowering in disappointment. "And people say I'm mean. What was that?" he asked. "I know you're not a bad bloke but that wasn't exactly the greatest thing you could have said." Moxy poked out her head and sniffed the air, which now had a hint of sulfur to it as well as the normal pine resin and rotted wood smell. A familiar chill ran up her spine before she vanished back into the hood, shivering. Ea noticed something amiss as well and his eyes narrowed before he pulled out his wand. "Something's not right..." he said in a controlled voice. Feeling the chill go up his spine, there was no doubt in his mind that the monster dog was out there somewhere. Watching them.
"Get your wand ready!" he barked at Douglas. This thing wasn't catching him off guard again, whatever it was. There was a heavy smell of sulfur in the air that made him crinkle his nose in distaste. But before he could do anything, a deep menacing growl shook the undergrowth. The sound was unmistakably canine and aggressive too. It got suddenly cooler and Ea's breath showed in wisps of smoke in front of his face."Well, I guess you'll just have to go into your wee little emo-corner and have yourself a cry then."

Courage isn't the absence of fear; it's wearing a second pair of jocks and getting it over with.
Douglas Richard Thomson Douglas felt something crush inside him. He had no idea that Adriane was putting on an act. Even after five years of classes together, he still held to the irrational, unwavering faith that Adriane was a good person.
He tried clearing his throat and muttering an apology. He couldn't do it. Adriane looked so miserable with her gaze lowered and tears in her eyes. When he saw the mascara smudges -
The slap struck. Douglas took a step back in surprise then a few steps towards where Adriane stormed off. He was ruined. If he'd had any chance left of dating her, he'd just blown them across the Irish Sea and drowned it in the Atlantic.
As Douglas took those few, long, slow steps back towards Ea, he was not expecting to be chewed out. 'So it's fine for you to talk about me like I'm not here but the moment I slip up you start glowering at me!' he snapped. He probably would have gone further but whatever was freaking his friend out was more important. He grabbed his wand and racked his brain for an attack spell. He had no idea what was in the clearing with them but it didn't sound good. There is a FINE LINE between COURAGE and STUPIDITY. I just crossed it.
