Shadow__Dweller I agree with what Biohazard said about having decent actors who act out the scene like they are in a movie, all together, rather than just vioce actors. It DOES add a human touch to the story which makes it believable. The little ways they look at each other or make hand gestures are all things which are very casual and real and you can tell they aren't scripted. When I'm playing Uncharted I feel like I'm playing a real human (apart from the fact that he can get shot a million times before dying) whereas when I play other characters I don't always feel that. I can understand why you might not think Uncharted is that great a game because even though I do enjoy it I don't actually think it's brilliant. I do think it's too easy and I do think there are alot of repetative moments. The same jokes get repeated and the same things happen. As much as I like the other characters, Chloe gets on my nerves because she's always talking to Nate throughout the gameplay, suggesting things and telling the player what to do which annoyed me a little. The game is too easy and you definately finish it too quickly for me to be able to call it brilliant. Uncharted isn't really anything new with regards to gameplay but that doesn't matter if you're able to do the same things as other games but do them better, and I do believe it's the best action/adventure game out there. I don't really care if it's not the best game out of all genres but I think it's the best game of it's kind. I think it appeals to people who might not usually buy those kinda of games because of its simplicity yet fast-paced action. For people who play that genre alot, like me, it seems too simple. The first time I've played it through I didn't really enjoy it that much, I didn't get "sucked in" and I was constantly comparing it to the first game and not enjoying it as much. Whether this is because I was expecting all the hyper about it to be true, or because once you've figured out how to beat the bad guys in Uncharted 1 you can just apply the same things to Uncharted 2 and it seems fairly simple. I do think though that second time through I will enjoy it more because I won't be expecting more from it and will just enjoy what's there, especially if I spend time looking for secrets and properly exploring the environments rather than just rushing through them. No matter what you think of it I think it's safe to say that I believe Naughty Dog cares about the game...they care about what other people think of it, they want you to like it and not just for money reasons...they want to make their game the best and don't settle for anything less and I admire them for that. The point about being human doesn't come through motion for me. You can watch live action movies which will do all that and the characters still seem just characters. A character becomes believable when they are deep characters. Drake's one of those characters I don't get that from and keep crying out for something more. By this point now, in a bid to be objective and see you guy's point of view, I've gone out of my way to watch the making of videos that were slapped on the PSN. So far I'm up to #5 and see what you mean with all the mocap stuff, but other than that it seems like the usual lip-service dev teams give their babies for making-of stuff. Still got 7 more to go, assuming I don't get bored and go back to trying to get Brutal Legend to work.

It might be cheesy but, I love the way the character's banter with each other. I can't really explain why I like Drake, I just do. More than other characters I can think of...like say...Lara Croft or Dante from Devil May Cry. I know they're not good examples of characters who are realistic and they don't even have depth, but maybe that's my point. Not that Drake has much depth. I guess it's just a matter of opinion, like anything else.

Sorry for the double posting but have you guys watched those motion comic episodes Uncharted: Eye of Indra? You can download them for a fee on the playstation network or watch them for free on youtube. It's a story that happens before Drake's Fortune and features Eddy Raja.
I've been watching those behind the scenes clips from Uncharted 2 and it's really made me appreciate the actrs. Nolan North is brilliant, and he seems like he really is Nathan Drake with his personality..doesn't have to act much lol. It made me think that when they make the movie of Drake's fortune I really hope the same actors play them, because they really have to act anyway...they have to do all the movements and acting, not just the voices, and most of them have got film and theatre experience...so I really hope they keep the same actors..they've made the characters who they are because of all the improvisation and stuff that goes on during the game...and I definately think the film will flop if they have other people playing them...because it's not like other video games that have been made into films where the video game character hardly says anything throughout the whole game or doesn't have much of a personality...the charcters in Uncharted are like real people with real feelings and the game is like a movie...the characters have been made by the actors themselves. Apparently the people who were first chosen to write the film have been dumped, and now the guys who made Sahara have been named. Sahara is definately a film like Uncharted, where all the action is fast paced and over-the-top.

I have only watched the first one thus far, having found it for free on the US store, but intend to catch up with the rest soon. It looks very interesting, and I applaud Naughty Dog for a somewhat original concept.

Biohazard EXTREME I just applaud them for not cheaping out and getting the original voice cast for these motion comics. I loved that they still used Nolan and the other guys to do the voices. On another note..I know I've been saying Uncharted 2 seems easier than the first one...but now that I've reached chapter 24 I've changed my mind lol. Boy are those Guardians hard to kill. I think that everything after the train ride has been the sort of level of difficulty I expected. I've really loved all these last levels...they're brilliant.

Yeah, I think they might've been my single deciding factor when I said it was actually more difficult than U1. Lol, they kicked my a** so many times, during that one scene where they ambush Nate, Elena and Chloe in that broken down structure. The other thing that I find makes it a big more difficult is that the enemies are able to take a lot more bullets before dying. They got the super-armored guys with miniguns. And unless I'm packing something explosive, they're usually a tough battle.

I was playing Infamous today and it made me think how truly awesome Uncharted is in comparison. The realism of the characters and script and cinematics are so superior, and in Uncharted you find yourself being sucked into the story and gameplay...the boundaries between gameplay and cinematics get lost and you can play through all the big moments in the game, like the helicopter shooting up the building and everything gets sucked out. Those are true cinematic moments worthy of an movie and yet you play through them in Uncharted, rather than watching them happen. Naughty Dog seem to use the power of the PS3 like no other company do and you can see it in Uncharted. That's why I think it deserves game of the year...it accomplishes things other games don't.

Sorry for the double post, but I found an interview with Amy Hennig (creative director of Naughty Dog) which I thought was really interesting: http://www.videogamesblogger.com/2009/09/24/uncharted-3-nathan-drakes-going-to-have-a-lot-of-adventures.htm
The comments about the way Naughty Dog work interested me. The company doesn't have a manager...they don't work to schedules or deadlines...the workers have to be indepent and contribute to the game itself. They're given alot of freedom and seem to really love the game they're creating and be completely dedicated to it, not just as the job they're getting paid to do. Whenever I hear interviews with any of the people who have made Uncharted, be it creators or actors, they all seem to really love and care about the game they're creating.

Bioware used to be like that... Now... Well, I'm pretty sure EA is keeping them on a tight, tight leash now.

I saw a really good deal at... Wal Mart I think... I don't remember, but it's actually a $60 bundle, where you get a Dual Shock 3 controller and a copy of a Greatest Hits game. Uncharted was one of the choices.
