Castello raised a brow. "Well, of course, in your laguz shape. He was a big guy. Er... but you do have a way to be much stronger," he coughed, trying not to sound patronizing. "Hey," he added suddenly, "Know what'd be even better than the cliffs? There's a spot right here in town where I loved to watch the sun rise. Great spot for a morning nap in the summer, too." He pointed in the direction of the castle, spreading and flapping his wings a bit as he began to lift himself upward, over the rooftops.

Annis shrugged one shoulder and looked away from Castello. She coughed into her fist. "Uh-huh. Yeah," she agreed, trying to see if he would turn the subject away. And certain enough, he did. Thank the goddess.

"Really? Where, exactly? And I thought the cliffs would look pretty enough," Annis responded, eyes on the trees. She lifted off into the air after him, her wings flapping. She found herself flying up above him, still not looking over at him. She had her gaze over in the direction of the Eyris castle, arms folded loosely in front of her. "And are people allowed to be there? I'd guess you wouldn't care, but I'm curious now."

He shot forward a bit and swept upward, leading her up and up toward the highest spire of the castle. It had a relatively flat roof, with a little railing installed for observation, but the only way up there was to fly or climb a ladder set into the stone on the outside of the spire. Nobody would be able to spot them from the ground, though anyone flying by might spot them if they went high enough. He set down carefully on the railing, then hopped onto the slightly sloped stone. It kept water from pooling up there, and it faced directly east, which made it a fantastic spot to sit and watch the sun come up over the edge of the world.

"Hey, I was here long before anybody made a rule about me being up here, okay? Anybody has an issue, they'll need to deal with me." He winked and sat, then stretched out, leaving a spot for her to lie down beside him.

"So anyway... why didn't you transform to fly him back?"

Annis settled in next to Castello on the spire, folding her arms behind her head. She folded her wings behind her back and reclined carefully. The stone was cold after being bathed in moonlight for so long, but it was still as comfortable as a stone roof could be.

Annis merely laughed when he finally spoke up, pushing her bangs away from her face. "Of course, of course... I mean... you're obviously not just some random Castello with the same crest the Castello of legend had, so..." she trailed off, not quite sure if she wanted to make him spit it out that he had to be the Crestbearer.

"So anyway... why didn't you transform to fly him back?"

Annis rolled onto her side and looked over at the trees and homes down below them. She didn't answer for a long minute, brushing at her shirt with one hand. "...Maybe I didn't want to," she finally answered. So she didn't have a good excuse. Crap. "Or maybe it didn't occur to me. Did you consider that?"

Castello raised a brow, settling back on his elbows with his wings slightly spread, propped up to watch light peeking over the horizon, shining up over the edge and illuminating the fringes of the sky. "Mmm... yeah, sure. It didn't occur to you that you were a laguz, I'll buy that." He raised a brow. "C'mon, why didn't you transform? Don't make me beg, 'cause I won't." He paused and leaned close to confide, at a whisper, "I'll tickle instead."

Annis focused her eyes on the horizon, her gaze hard. "Mmm... yeah, sure. It didn't occur to you that you were a laguz, I'll buy that." Annis didn't respond, just propped herself up on her elbows and watched as the horizon began to shine yellow, the sun just beginning to rise.

"C'mon, why didn't you transform? Don't make me beg, 'cause I won't." Annis still didn't look at him. She tried to ignore him as he leaned closer, but the shudder and widening of her eyes were visible when he added, "I'll tickle instead."

Annis simultaneously scooted back what space the spire allowed her and rolled over to face Castello. Her eyes were still rounded, face flushed a little pink. "You wouldn't dare," she managed, voice coming out in a squeak.

A slow grin spread across Castello's face as he rolled over to face her, watching her back away. He hadn't even touched her and she was already squeaking! Oh, this would be good... just wait for it...

He lunged! Hands flew to her sides as he pinned her legs under one of his, and his nimble fingers flew up and down her sides, one snaking up under her arm, then around to her back. Like any raven, Castello knew that the bases of the wings was extremely sensitive...

Annis watched Castello, her expression wary as she found herself backing up against the railing. Her wings twitched, and she vaguely wondered if she could leap off and fly before he could reach her... her foot started to move--

And he pounced. Annis yelped and moved to kick, only to find his leg holding both of hers against the stone. "Chea--aaaaugh! Aaaaaaaie!" Annis shrieked and writhed underneath Castello's hands, chest shaking as she laughed. "St-Sto--a-ack!" she tried, only to get cut short as his fingers went right for the base of her wings. Her laughter increased and she continued to squirm under him. Finally she managed to find at least the hand that she could see with her own, and she gripped his wrist to try to keep his hand still, even as the laughter continued. "St...Stop! Stop!" she panted, chest heaving. "I-I give, I give, stop it!"

The raven sat back, straddling Annis' legs, then leaned down and rolled off of her, sitting to the side. "Haha," he sighed, wings twitching. "Alright, alright... now spill it." He listened intently even as his stormy gray eyes (reluctantly) tore themselves away from the pretty young girl to stare at the horizon, where the sun was now a glowing red sliver.

Annis sat up, rubbing her left eye with her fist. She busied herself for a moment with brushing her legs off, where she could still feel Castello's weight, and then pulled her knees close to her chest. She let her wings flare out and wrap loosely around her, like a blanket, or something that could deflect Castello's gaze.

"Maybe it's not that I didn't think to transform, maybe it's that I can't, all right?" Annis finally told him. Her voice was quiet, directed more to her toes than to the admittedly handsome raven next to her. "Maybe I don't know how."

He blinked. He flapped his wings a bit, watching the sun peak a little bit over the edge of the ocean far off ahead of them.

No smile twitched at his lips, or was barely kept off his face.

It burst across his features in a wide grin before he began laughing. "FffffffWHAT? Woman, are you telling me you don't know how to transform!? Wh-what the hell?" he laughed, shaking and wracking with his laughter, so long and loud he ended up curled up on himself and gripping his sides.

Annis didn't look at Castello until he started laughing. She didn't just look at him; she snapped her head to the side, eyes blazing in anger. Her wings twitched and flared out to either side of her body. "Well, excuse me for being abandoned on a beorc couple's doorstep when I was still a baby!" she shouted at him, voice a little strained. "I never met them! I don't even know their names, for ******** sake! A beorc family raised me! Hell, we lived next to Serenes Forest, it was a miracle I was even able to train in combat with knives with them on our back door! So will you shut up?!" Annis turned her back to him, resting her chin on her folded arms, across her knees. She stared hard at the railing and said nothing else.

Her wings twitched as she waited slowly, painfully, for each burst of laughter to finally silence. As soon as the noise had stopped, Annis looked up, rubbing one eye dry. "Hmph..." Annis muttered. She didn't turn around. "Like... you should even laugh, wearing your stupid girly necklace," Annis muttered. As soon as the last syllable left her mouth, she lurched around, grabbed onto his necklace, and yanked it right off of his neck. She skittered back just a little, eyes turning down to the pendant. What was so special about this stupid thing, anyway? Legends called him the Crestbearer, but could a little necklace honestly give someone so much power?

Castello's laughter died immediately when Annis' small hand closed around the Tervingi Crest, and when it was suddenly pulled off him, he became quite solemn. The sight that greeted Annis when she turned to face him again was startling.

Castello's wings were gone.

The moment the necklace was yanked away, his wings had wilted and disappeared without a trace. He closed his eyes for a moment, taking a long, deep breath through his nose before he opened his eyes to look into hers.

"I'd like that back now," he murmured, "If you don't mind." He doubted she'd be in the mindframe to play keep-away, and reached out slowly to take the sacred crest from her, though he didn't put it back on immediately.

Annis clutched onto the Tervingi Crest with both hands now, eyes widening impossibly. How the hell... his wings... they were right there... where could they have gone? What sort of magic could a stupid necklace have to give a laguz his wings?

...Why the hell does a necklace give him his wings to begin with?!

Annis just sort of stared right back at Castello, her green eyes clearly shocked, almost a little frightened. Her fingers were tight around the necklace, knuckles almost turning a little white, but as his fingers started to move against hers, her hands immediately went lax, giving him ample room to remove the Crest from her palms. Her wings folded tight against her back, as if to hide them from him. "How... how the <********>..." she started, her voice dying in her throat. She didn't try to ask again, but a part of her hoped he'd finish the question for her.
