Dear diary..

MAY 2O, 2OO6.

May 20, 2006. Saturday. Rainy.

It's been quite an interesting week, I suppose.

How to begin? Well, Mayu's met this boy, Demare, first of all (I wrote about him earlier). Also, she began "swordfighting" with a Victorian fan which I had purchased for her that had caught my eye in the marketplace. I think it's called tessenjutsu, yes.. The ancient Japanese fighting style of war fan fighting. It's quite curious, really.

I have to look into this more. When I watched her twirl about with the fan, it also brought some memories. Memories that I didn't even know existed in my head. I remember nothing from before I was taken in by Mrs. and Mr. Hinasaki, and I think I'm really starting to retrieve my memories.. I have to work on that too. See what I can remember from my childhood.

Mayu's become a lively soul lately, and she writes often in her little notebook and diary. She's taken up sewing too, from what I've seen. She's become a real help, taking care of Verde and making sure that Miyu's not getting into trouble.

What am I saying, I sound like an old fart! I'm only 15! I think I really am getting lazy. Anyway, onto the good stuff:

Alchemy experiments have been going well, and I've collected the components for a human body. I've also collected various minerals in addition to the components to better this homunculi, and an refining the ingredients to create the philosopher's stone.

I can see it in front of me right now; the red stone, the life's blood. With it, I can cheat death, create life, and bend the rules of the world to my liking.

No alchemist before me has been able to create a perfect stone. I will be that alchemist to surpass the limits. I will challenge God in his territory.

With that said, more experiments all day tomorrow. The kids can take care of themselves, and they can order out. The duties of science come before my children.

-Kimiko.

The top section is written in a neat monoscript, and the bottom is scribbled madly in a dark ink. It disappears as the ink dries, but if held up to a fire, will be able to be read. Kimiko's face shows a manic grin for a moment, then returns to her cool, relaxed state. Crawling under the covers, she begins to dream up more plans for the day ahead.

Constructing the wings.

It was... early. Five o' clock, to be exact. Kimiko shuffled out of her room with a drawn-out yawn, knowing very well that the alarm she had set would be ringing two and a half hours later. It made for a better illusion, she thought, as she was one to sleep in for hours after the alarm rang. Just in case someone nosied into her room to figure out why she hadn't prepared breakfast yet, she had placed a quite convincing arrangement of pillows and cushions under the covers to give the illusion of a sleeping lady beneath them.

Of course, the food problem would be solved. The black-haired one had thought ahead and prepared dishes ahead of time which were sitting silently in the refrigerator. She had written up an elaborate note instructing the children to microwave the contents of such tupperware cases accordingly. Hoping that the kids would be capable enough to put a box in a microwave and press a few buttons without it blowing up, Kimiko started down the wooden stairs that led to the basement.

It had a comforting feel, the gray walls plastered over with pages of scribbly handwriting, notes, and diagrams. A small furnace burning in the corner was purifying a vital ingredient for the stone, and Kimiko gave a slight smile. It was like music to her ears...

The sound of her tinkling wind chime and the twittering songbirds woke Mayu up from her light sleep. She had no need for an alarm clock, though kept a nice pink one nearby to tell the time. It was 7:30 AM, the time when her sisters would be waking up -- well, Verde, at least, Miyu would probably be snoring by then.

Pulling herself out of bed, the Legend stretched lightly and straightened the covers. Her silver hair tumbled down her back messily and flatly, she would find a hairbrush and ties later to put it up.

She quickly changed into her usual pink attire, and shuffled off in a pair of fuzzy pink slippers to brush her teeth and fix her hair up.

The black-haired girl scrawled out pages after pages of notes as she watched the chemicals bubble in flasks over a white-hot bunsen burner, ofter stopping as ideas to improve her experiments and arrays came to mind. Upon the walls went more and more diagrams and scrawly handwriting, overlapping the many that were already pinned up.

One could call it an obsession, what she was researching, but she preferred to think of it as "avid research".

--------------------

A young Kimiko fumbled through the dark passage, wielding only a large flashlight with a wide beam. Rats skittered away as the beam of light shone in their path, filthy little things they were.

She could not quite remember why she had ventured below the mansion in the first place, the last thing she recalled was grabbing a flashlight from a storage closet and descending into the darkness. The young missus had discovered a secret passage a day before, and had been curious to see what was inside.

Her older brothers -- Satoshi and Kyo -- had been interested to hear about the trapdoor and the hidden stairs, but were too chicken to go exploring with her. They were a sad bunch, that.

A wall of collapsed rubble stood before her, and the little girl halted. She shone her flashlight upon the wall, there seemed to be no opening whatsoever to the path beyond... Wait! The beam shone upon a small hole to the left of the wall, just large enough for a small girl like Kimiko to squeeze through. Dashing over to the hole, the black-haired one pushed her way through and came into a large opening. One with many, many books.

--------------------

Tying her loose silver hair into a bun, Mayu pulled a pink bunny hat over her head -- a new find in the Gambino marketplace -- and hopped down the stairs two steps at a time. Her loyal kitty followed her hastily, mewing loudly to be picked up.

The Legend laughed and scooped the feline up, plopping down on the beige sofa. She wondered if there was anything good on television at this early time of the day. Probably educational television, she thought, and grimaced. If there was one thing worse than a singing purple dinosaur, it was a singing purple dinosaur which taught you to share and your math and ABC's.

She flicked the TV on, however, just to fill the silence of the early morning. Shuffling into the kitchen, the girl rummaged through the pantry for some sort of morning sustenance. Kiki puffs it was, she decided, and poured the colorful cereal into a large bowl she pulled out of the cabinet. It would do for the moment, though a growing Legend definately needed more than sugary puffs drowned in milk to sustain them through the day. She would have to find Kimiko later, wherever she was, and get her to cook something good.

--------------------

The dark corridor opened out into a bright library of sorts, florescent lights buzzing overhead. It looked to be quite old, and had not been used in quite a while. Shelves after shelves were laid out in an organized manner, stocked with large old books. Many of them looked to be damaged by water, rendering them illegible, but a few of the books had survived the ages in good condition.

There was one book that seemed particularly interesting to the little Kimiko, a large one with a nice navy blue coloring. Written upon the spine in heavy lettering were the words Introduction to Alchemy.

It seemed intriguing enough, the girl decided, and slided the large book out of its position in the shelf. It was a bit dusty, and she sneezed as she turned to the first page.

From the very first words, Kimiko was captured. Imagine that, a science which allowed you to transmute any substance in the world into a different one... and one that could create life from out of the blue. The girl sat beneath the colossal shelves, flipping through page after page of the book. She had found a new hobby to pursue.

--------------------

The teen had a bit of a god complex, as one would call it. Her research was tottering on the line of "reasonable" and "pure insanity", and it was leaning toward the insane side.

To put it bluntly, she wanted to create life. And not just resurrect a dead person with an already-created soul, but pull life out of thin air -- that is, construct an artificial soul, create a body, and weave them together to create a living creature. If she could at least accomplish that, she would give herself a pat on the back.

Her real goal was to create the famed Philosopher's Stone. An impossible goal, but even fools could dream once in a while.

What she didn't know was that the gods were putting her skills to the test. Her research in human transmutation would be a most valuable resource in the near future. The teen pressed on, listening to the wonderful chime the beakers made as she filled them up with chemicals and scratched down notes. It was like music to her ears...

Hello, world diary!

Dear Diary ...

Dear Diary,

Kimiko's nuts, really. She wants me to take martial arts AND tessenjutsu lessons at the same time, while balancing them with my academics. And all because I did some swooshy tricks with one of the fans she got me!

Oh yeah, I forgot to write about that. Kimiko got me two fans, a wind chime thingy, a lantern, and a doll. They're all really pretty. I like the lantern, it's by my bookshelf so I can have a light if I want to read by there when the lights are off.

What is there to write about, anyway? Oh yeah, I tried sewing a few days ago, finally. My fingers still hurt, I pricked all of them at least once when I was trying the stitches out. But I guess it was fun, and I can't wait to make stuff with this. Oh, I forgot, didn't I? I was supposed to fix my purse but it's still in pieces on the nightstand. I need to get to working on that later.

That's all for now, I guess. I wish I had more to write about!

Sincerely, Mayu.

Mayu.. Mayu.. What's happened?

---

Mother told me that you don't really hate anyone. You can severely dislike them, but never hate.

I think she was wrong. ]

i hate transcribing things Old and New Faces

Paestri skipped towards the Legends HQ that day with an extra spring in her step. She was looking forward to seeing new Legends or old ones who have yet to find out she had grown. Malady was with her, naturally, it just didn't seem right not to have it around.

Malady was draped over Paestri's shoulders like an odd stole, its red eyes glowering at everyone that walked by.

"Why are we going there of all places?" it whined.

"Because this is where I met Prana, Gyre, Breena, Eeenie, Mayu, Kevin an' Suds, Chandra, Vava and Loki." she giggled.

Loki had come to the HQ not to seek others in general, but to seek out Mayu. He had left that damn doll at home sitting in his drawer, shuddering at the thought. It wasn't the fact that it was a voodoo doll that frightened him; it was the fact that Mayu, of all the ones to have given him a gift, had given him the doll.

Stepping into the HQ, Loki's face soured as he plopped himself onto the couch, wrinkling his nose. Ink had been here last time he had made himself comfortable on furniture, and not to mention he had recently been in a fight with Demare. The mark on his forehead proved it.

"What now?" He hissed, tilting his head to the side as he felt his lizard-spirit scuttle around in his scarf.

Mayu had found her way to the Legend headquarters once again, a new bunny hat pulled over her head. Kimiko had run out and bought a replacement for her after the.. incident.

In actuality, her new haircut wasn't that bad -- it was nice not having such long hair to brush through every morning. She couldn't stand the charred smell, though.

Pushing open the doors of the HQ, Mayu took a quick peek inside, trying to see if anyone was there. There were two, her friend Paestri.. and Loki.

At first, Paestri wasn't sure how to react upon seeing Loki. He was just so... different from the last time she saw him. And when Mayu came in, Paestri was stunned to find her other friend was just as different! All in a good way of course.

"Mayu!!!" she squealed first, after all the other pink Legend had changed far more than Loki did (at least in her opinion). "Loki!" she chirped with just as much enthusiasm. It was wonderful to find her two friends were her at the same time!

Malady on the other hand wasn't as thrilled by the company. It remembered fragments of Loki, mainly because of how he tasted but Mayu was a total stranger to it. It sneered at both and resorted to coiling around Paestri's waist like a belt, hissing at both of them.

Having reached up to toy with his shorter hair again, Loki let his hands drop as soon as he had seen Mayu, growling with great displeasure.

His hair could stay up a bit unkempt, at the moment. The hyena boy had other matters to attend to.

"Mayu." He allowed a small smile, standing up and walking over to her, reaching up to shove the hat from her head. "One such as you shouldn't hide such pretty hair."

Lue peeked out from the scarf with his beady lizard eyes, giving Malady a dirty look. She was no such spirit, and this made him more than just a bit uneasy.

Mayu grimaced as the hat was snatched from her head, dropping down to reach for it. "Nice to see you again," she forced out through clenched teeth. She wasn't a bit over the hair thing.

She waved at Paestri, however, replying back with a happy chirp of "Pae!" She hadn't seen the pink-haired girl since the closet incident, and that was when they were both toddlers!

"You look different." Paestri states with a grin before skipping towards both Loki and Mayu. "But a good sort of different." she adds giggling before glomping Mayu.

"And and I changed too!" she beams, releasing the silver haired Legend from her embrace and twirling on her heels. "How have you been Loki? Is Vava with you?" she asks, if she had noticed the tension between Mayu and Loki she doesn't seem to show it.

"And I'm just chopped liver." Malady mutters loud enough for both all three Legends to hear.

Loki moved to step on Mayu's hat, but stopped short when he heard Paestri address him, eyes slanting to the side. "Vava...? No, I haven't seen him, nor anyone for that matter..." Crossing his arms, Loki ran his fingers across the bandages that hid his lava-like arm, ignoring Lue for the moment.

"Is it really? Is that why you send love tokens, Mayu?" Loki rolled his eyes.

Mayu snatched the hat from its spot on the ground and dusted it off before placing it back on her head.

"Yeah.. It's a good change. I can finally come to the HQ alone now!" She smiled, remembering back to just a few weeks ago when she still had to be with her guardian to go.. well, anywhere.

"Love tokens?" Mayu asked, confused. "If you're talking about the doll, that was not a love token."

In other circumstances, Paestri would have changed the subject by now. She would have noted that Mayu and Loki weren't getting along well and that she should do something about it. She would have led them to the sofas and asked they sit down. In other circumstances, Paestri would have been capable of feeling awkwardness, and unease.

However, this was not such a circumstance.

"You gave Loki a doll? What kind of doll was it? And why didn't I get one?" she asked with a teasing wink. "So what would you have given him if it was supposed to be a love token?"

Malady groaned, "They obviously don't want to be disturbed. Why don't we leave and come back another day? When there's no one around?" the Intangible suggested in sarcasm.

"One does not spend time on details and the like if it is not a love token, dear Mayu. Perhaps we should speak of this more in private?" Taking her hand gently, Loki kissed the back of it, his lips feeling as if they were on fire.

"Dearest Paestri... you look lovely." An arm wrapped around the black girl's shoulders as he stepped away from the tree girl, letting her hand drop.

A mischevious spark glinted in those crimson eyes of his.

"It was a voodoo doll," Mayu scowled, "with its head torn off. Obviously NOT a love token." She would remember, however, to send Paestri one of her.. better creations.

The Legend would have torn her hand away in disgust if she was not staring at it in disbelief. ...Gross. Grabbing Paestri's arm, she yanked the girl over to her side. "Sorry, Pae," she whispered, then stated in a louder voice, "She's with me." She shot Loki a glare.

Paestri let out a soft squeak of delight upon seeing Loki kiss Mayu's hand. Awwww, just like in those romantic books her mama reads and pretends not to like because it's not believable but the red-head still keeps a lot in stock. She giggled and clapped softly, before blushing at Loki's compliment.

"Thank you, Loki. I think you look better with longer hair though." She adds, she was being honest after all. "But you look good with short hair too."

Blinking, Paestri suddenly finds herself by Mayu's side and giggles.

"It's alright, I was just joking about the doll." she smiles, "And I like the rabbit hat. It's cute, and it suits you."

Malady rolled its eyes and perched atop Paestri's head, "Okay so everyone looks good. Hooray! Break out the sparkly drinks and lets get this thing over and done with!!" it snaps.

Lue, having used Loki's arm as a distraction, now climbed up on Paestri's head and perched next to Malady, now giving Mayu a rather devilish grin. He was eyeing her nose.

"Perhaps I did not make myself clear, wench." Loki smiled softly, though his tone had a low bite to it. As he walked around them both, his wings fluttered slightly, not having seen much day as of lately. Fingers loosely caressed the ends of his scarf, as if welcoming the flame from them.

It was then that he noticed the strap on Paestri's arm, and stopped altogether, staring at it with disbelief. "Y... you kept it...?"

"Thank you," Mayu gave a smile to Paestri. She honestly didn't really like wearing hats, but at least it kind of helped with the charred smell that frilly shampoo couldn't erase.

She had just noticed Malady perched upon Paestri's head, and nodded. "Nice... thingamabobber."

She wasn't quite sure what it was, and felt that the word "thingamabobber" would be most proper to describe it. She shot a sharp glare at the lizard-thing perched next to it, remembering what had happened last time. She covered her nose with one hand, just in case it would attempt something like that again.

"Mama said you shouldn't call a girl a "wench" becuase it's not nice." Paestri found herself stating. There was no malice, no hint of scolding, it was said in a very matter-of-fact tone. She peered up as best as she could to see what it was that was on her head with Malady.

"What's that?" she asked, pointing to Lue. When Loki spoke about the leather strap on her arm, she blushed slightly. "Uh huh, it finally fit me properly so I thought it would be nice to wear it and show you."

Malady was curiously interested in why Mayu covered her nose upon seeing the lizard-thing. "I ain't no thingamabobber, or whatever the hell else you might call me. I'm Malady." it introduced, about damn time someone notice it.

"Mmmm." Loki glanced away, for once, at a loss for words.

Lue snickered, turning his beady eyes on Malady as fire danced across his lizard skin.

"Very well, Malady then." Mayu nodded to the thing, but felt the need to tag on a short phrase. "... still a thingamabobber, though."

She kept her nose covered in case the thing tried a sneak attack later on, and tugged on a hanging ear from her hat idly.

Paestri was supposed to ask Loki something when she felt an odd warmth on her head then began to smell something bad. And then the warmth became unbearable and she let out a loud screech as her hands shot up to the source of the pain. Her hair was on fire!

"And I already told you I ain't- AAAAAAAAUUUUUUGGGGHHHH!!!!" Malady shrieked and began to twist and stretch in agony. The flames weren't the cause, it was Paestri's pain.

"LUE!" Loki snarled, grabbing the lizard and glaring, right before catching Paestri's arm and pulling her to him.

"Calm," He hissed, drawing his hand over the flames and pulling them out, letting them attach to his scarf. "Lue, you and your damn spirit-ticks..."

Lue glowered, hunkering over on the floor.

..What what? Burning? There was a fire in Paestri's hair!

"Don't worry Pae, I'll go get water!" Mayu dashed off, returning a moment later with a large jug of water. She tossed it over the girl's head a second before realizing she was too late.

"...Oops. I'll go get a towel."

Paestri's eyes stung with tears as the fire was extinguished, but they were soon washed away by the jug of water Mayu poured over her head. It did help soothe the pain, although it left the pink Legend wet. Strands of her hair clung to her face as she coughed and gasped.

"I-I'm okay, r-really." She assured them, instinctively reaching out to feel the extent of the fire's damage. There was one particular spot that felt singed beyond hope, and she supposed she'd have to get her hair cut now. "What happened?"

Malady, however, was taking it far worse than Paestri. It was wailing and screaming out profanities like it knew no other words. It curled on top of Paestri's head, sobbing and moaning in horror and disbelief. What had she done to deserve this? It wasn't fair, it wasn't right!

"It's all your fault!!" it snarled, tendrils shooting out at both Loki and Lue though it merely passed straight through them.

Loki turned away, his fist clenched. He really had nothing to say to either of them, and in a helpless gesture, reached up and fiddled with his blonde hair, tying it up to splay down the sides of his head.

Without another word, he turned to walk off.

Mayu returned with a towel she had scavenged from one of the guest bedrooms just in time to see Loki leave. She quirked an eyebrow and waved, then helped mop some of the water off of Paestri's face. She handed the towel to the girl, giving a weak smile.

"Thank you," Paestri replied shakily accpting the towel. "Loki? Where are you going?" she called out, why was he leaving? She hadn't even gotten to talk to him well. She turned to Mayu in confusion, "Did I say something wrong?"

"If he's taking that stupid freak reptile with him then LET him!" Malady spat.

"I'm less of a freak than you are, Malady," Lue murmured, giving the smoke a rather gruesome grin. "At least I have others to call my own." Glancing to his master, Lue shook his head and followed suit, scampering on all fours.

Mayu shook her head. "Don't think so..."

Of course, she had been gone for a while, rummaging through the rooms for a nice towel. Maybe Paestri had said something rude, though she doubted it.

She took a seat on the sofa, looking over to the other girl. She wasn't quite sure of what to say at an awkward moment like this.

"Then why is he leaving? He didn't do anything wrong?" She asked still thoroughly confused about everything. The pain was reduced to a dull thud, and she could ignore it if she placed the soaked towel on the area.

Malady rolled its eyes, "******** you and your others!"

Mayu shrugged, as she was quite lost in all of this. The.. last thought she remembered having was of fire, and then it all became a blur as she frantically dashed through the building to find water and towels.

"Thingamabobbers shouldn't swear!" she spoke up, peering at Malady.

Paestri joined Mayu on the sofas, still holding the towel to her head. "Why'd Loki kiss your hand?" she suddenly asks, her confusion ebbing away.

"I can swear as much as I want!!" Malady stuck its tongue out at Mayu before hiding between Paestri's back and the sofa.

"I honestly don't know," Mayu said, still shuddering. "Is your hair okay?" she asked, taking a look at the top of Paestri's head.

The silver haired Legend retaliated with a raspberry of her own, then looked back up to Paestri.

"I don't know, how does it look?" Paestri asks, removing the towel to give Mayu a better look at her hair. There was one spot where the hair had to be cut away, though.

Demare stepped into the headquarters quietly, having left his book at home for once. He needed a break, and a walk seemed like the perfect way to stretch and get some fresh air. Before he knew it, he was at the Legend Headquarters, and the memory of his fight with Loki had struck his mind. He smelled something burning from outside, and had hoped he would be here so that he could apologize to the hyena boy.

Instead, he only found a soaked Paestri, an irritated Malady, and... Mayu giving the spirit-like creature a raspberry. Why was the pink haired girl sopping wet...? He didn't say anything as he cautiously made his way toward the couch, worried that one of them might be upset.

Mayu stood up to assess the damage done to Paestri's hair, then sat back down.

"It looks fine," she reassured her, "Except there's this one spot of hair that you need to cut off. Heck, it's better than what happened to mine."

Taking the towel from Paestri, Mayu helped her sop off more water from her drenched hair. "I'm going to go get a dry towel from another one of the bedrooms, so you can wrap your hair up. It'll help it dry faster." she said, getting up and whipping around to face Demare.

"Okay then." Paestri nods, before noticing Demare enter. "Demare!" She smiles, remembering the boy from the park. "Look Mal, it's Demare!"

"I don't care!" Malady snorted.

Mikhael paused outside the door of the Legends' Headquarters. He certainly didn't feel like he belonged there. He'd only been there once or twice, and he could barely remember the instances. "Raife..."

The man with the shock white hair and disturbingly pale complexion nudged him in through the front door. "It'll be okay. You're grown up now. Practically a man."

Mikhael giggled at that one.

"Okay, so, not practically a man. But you can handle people now. You've been through so much. It's important that you take steps like this." Raife shrugged his shoulders in a distinctly gallic gesture. "Go on. I'm just going to run some errands. I'll be back soon for you, so if there's trouble, just sit tight."

Mikhael nodded and pushed the doors open. ...Everything seemed so much smaller now.

Demare smiled a little bit as Mayu almost ran into him, his first instinct to hug the tree girl. However, he remained how he was, unsure of whether it would be okay or not.

"Hey Mayu," he said happily, then turned his eyes to the pink haired girl on the couch. "Hey P--..."

He blinked a few times, his face taking on a more concerned look as he noticed her hair. "Paestri, what happened to you?"

His attention was once again diverted as another boy entered the room, this one quite unfamiliar. He'd never seen anyone like him before, and couldn't help but think that he looked rather... fluffy.

"Hi," Mayu smiled, and handed him the soppy towel in her arms. "Hold this for a sec, will ya?"

She didn't linger behind to give the boy a chance to shove the towel back, and headed off towards the hallway. She stopped for a moment, however, to wave to the new arrival. She hadn't seen this kid before.

"Oh my hair caught on fire." Paestri chirps, as if the entire thing was as ordinary as leaves falling. "Loki and Mayu helped put it out." she adds, before noticing another boy enter. Another winged boy! Would all the boys (with an exception to Kevin) that she meets here have wings?

"Hello there, I'm Paestri. Who are you?" she asks brightly.

Oh no, not another one! This place was getting too crowded for the Intangible as it peered over Paestri's shoulders.

Mikhael shrank back a bit unconsciously as everyone seemed to stare at him as he came into the headquarters. See? This was what he was trying to avoid. He shook his head to clear it. Best to be polite. He was raised right, and Raife'd be disappointed if he showed otherwise.

"Mikhael." He tried smiling a bit. It was a trembling, shy smile. He tried to remind himself that this was just the same as Muse Society.

And then he remembered how hard his first few days had been, and swallowed. That wasn't helpful at all. His wings jerked closed just a little mechanically, as he tried to withdraw into himself.

Demare's own wings twitched and fidgetted a little bit as he smiled, noticing that the boy seemed rather shy. Mikhael...? That was similar to his past brother's name...

"It's nice to meet you, Mikhael," he said, holding out a hand to him in case he wanted to shake hands. "My name is..." He thought about it for a moment, and decided to go with the better choice. "My name is Clare."

Mayu returned with a large red towel, handing it over to Paestri so that she may wrap it around her hair. Taking the wet towel back from Demare, she scurried off once again to find a laundry bin of some sort.

Paestri smiled and waved at Mikhael, "It's nice to meet you." There came a sharp stinging sensation from the area where her hair was singed, and the pink Legend found herself not feeling too well. "I think I have to go home now, sorry I can't stay longer."

She looked a little tired and a bit ill at that and went to look for Mayu to say goodbye. Once she had found the other girl she gave her a hug before proceeding to give Demare and Mikhael a goodbye hug as well.

"Maybe we'll see each other again." She smiles as brightly as she could despite the pain. She was still carrying the red towel however.

Malady was whimpering as it clung to Paestri's back like some sort of bag.

"We're going home! NOW!" it ordered.

Mikhael nodded, then blinked puzzledly as the girl beat a quick exit. Maybe she was allergic to muses? And was that another pink girl in the back? Were all Legend girls pink? He didn't think he'd ever met one before...oh! Except that girl with the flute. She wasn't pink. Thank goodness. Pink was so....friendly. Not that Mikhael didn't want to be friendly...it was just hard. He smiled at Demare. "Clare?" He was a bit confused by this one. He wasn't sure whether Demare was happy to see him. But he took the greeting as it stood, and gently shook Demare's hand.

" 'meetcha." This was so scary! Oh, how he wished Levi was here. Nothing better than a charmingly outgoing pirate to hide behind. His eyes strayed curiously to Demare's mismatched set of wings.

Demare blinked as Paestri hugged him and left, blushing only slightly as he waved goodbye to the girl. His bi-colored gaze returned to Mikhael after a moment, noticing the boy had been staring at him. But why... Oh, right.

"Eheheh... I'm, ah... a little different from what you're probably used to seeing, huh?" he said a bit sheepishly.

Mayu waved good-bye to Paestri when she returned, finding her seat again on the couch. She would watch them talk for now, and would join the conversation if she was invited. Though, she couldn't help to think that it might've been a bit rude, as it seemed to be awfully similar to eavesdropping...

Ah well, it wasn't exactly eavesdropping if the speakers knew you were in the room listening, she supposed.

Mikhael shook his head quietly and took a step toward Demare, reaching out hesitantly towards his black wing. "S'not it."

He wasn't weirded out by Demare. But he hadn't ever seen a wing like that before. It looked a little...depressed. The blackness of it was a bit sinister. Well, as much as a wing could look depressed. He looked up at Demare. "Issit hurt?" Mikhael's eyes welled up with concern. He hated to see anything in possible pain.

Demare's eyes widened a little bit, but the rest of him didn't flinch as the other boy touched his wing. He was surprised... No one had ever asked about it before. Sure, it looked broken, but Mikhael seemed to be the first to notice aside from himself.

"A long time ago it used to, but it doesn't hurt anymore," he smiled, reassuring him. Clare couldn't even begin to imagine the pain Demian probably had felt when his wings ripped and tore apart back when the demon was still alive.

He looked over his shoulder, noticing Mayu sitting on the couch. She was so quiet coming back, he almost didn't know she'd returned.

"Mikhael, this is Mayu," he said, stepping out of the way to introduce them. "Mayu, Mikhael."

Ah, finally, she was invited into the conversation! Mayu got up from her seat and stepped over, extending her hand. Boys were.. supposed to do handshakes, right? She had remembered Waya giving her a handshake, but maybe other people didn't introduce themselves that way.

"The name's Mayu, as Demare said." she said, smiling.

Mikhael swallowed nervously and shook Mayu's hand. "Hi." He almost looked like he was going to dart behind a couch or something and hide, like a frightened squirrel. "What...." Oh, he had questions, but he was a bit scared to ask. They were supposed to be like him, right? Their home situations would be strange too.

"What....are your guardians like?" He coughed a bit dryly after the sentence. A positive oratory for Mikhael.

The halfling had to think about that for a moment, not usually asked that question. How to explain...

"Neko's... a little strange," he decided with a little shrug. "She's very caring, and she's always appearing to bring someone new home whenever she goes outside. Um... she's really scary when she'd mad, though."

Mayu pondered about the question for a minute, then opened her mouth to speak.

"Well, Kimiko is.." she hesitated, then continued. "Eccentric. She's really young compared to all the other guardians here, I think. And she's also overprotective!"

A small beep emanated from Mayu's left pocket, and she rummaged about inside to see what it was. Pulling out a borrowed wristwatch, she checked the time and gasped.

"Sorry guys, I gotta go for now. Bye, Demare, and it was nice meeting you, Mikhael!" Following in Paestri's footsteps, she gave both of them hugs and ran out the door.

AND THEN MIKHAEL AND DEMARE DID STUFF. AND THEN, EVENTUALLY, THEY STOPPED DOING STUFF. AND THEY LEFT.

AMEN.

What does this mean..?

JUNE 6, 2OO6.

June 6, 2006. Tuesday. Cloudy.

I.. really need to write, huh? Hehe.

Well, 6/6/6 is here at last. It seems like a normal day so far, but I'll be sure to keep watch for anything unusual today.

Okay, that was just to lighten the mood. I... have this feeling that something horrible is going to happen today. I can't explain it, but it's just weighing down in my heart and I trust it. I just hope that none of us get hurt. No experiments for today.

Past events, past events.. Well, Mayu seems to have gotten herself in trouble, which I really can't believe. She came in the door a few days ago with her hair burned up to her shoulders, and was.. sulking, I believe. And then a few days later, this guy calls the house and arranges a meeting, because Mayu sent out.. a death note and a voo-doo doll to some kid?

So they come over, we chat a bit, and Mayu attempts to spray the kid with a can of soda but fails (she tripped over Orphne, and scrambled the cans), spraying herself. The boy laughs, she gets pissed off, dumps what's left of the can on his head. He socks her in the face, she punches him back, Ka goes to intervent, and falls on my coffee table. It wasn't even a year old, and it breaks in half! So we obviously replaced it.. But eh.

Mayu's still holding a grudge against Loki -- I think that's what he was called -- which is amazing, because I've never seen her angry about anything before.

Well, I guess he really ticked her off, huh? Ah well..

A scribble was made through the rest of the page as Kimiko dropped her pen.

"MOTHER! MOTHER!" Mayu was shrieking at the top of her lungs, curled into a little ball upon her bed. Her.. her kitten wasn't moving.. Why wasn't she moving? Was she still asleep?

The black-haired girl dashed into the pink room quickly, frowning.

"What's wrong, hun?" she asked, before noticing the kitten curled up on the foot of the bed sickly. "Oh.. oh my.. We'd better call a vet." She ran off quickly, looking for the phone.

"K.. kitty, you'll be okay.." The Legend sniffled, hugging the orange tabby closely. It mewed weakly, snuggling into the warmness of the embrace.

The clinic.

The waiting room was felt.. sterile, drab white walls and tile floor, accentuated with a ticking clock and a few washed-out paintings by some famous dead guy with a long, fancy name.

They had been operating for hours now, trying to resuscitate the cat with all of their energy. The seconds ticked by slowly, accentuated with the loud tick that followed the thin hand of the clock routinely.

Kimiko was perfunctorily flipping through a dusty hospital magazine -- who read those, anyway? -- without stopping to look at the pretty pictures. There would be an article that caught her eye occasionally, and she would skim through it quickly before returning to the idle flipping of pages.

"How long has it been?" she asked the elf, sitting next to her on an ordinary plastic hospital chair.

"Three hours," Miyu grumbled, reading her book with little interest. The whole atmosphere was ruining her mood, and the smell! The whole room smelled like rubbing alcohol!

She could stand the rickety butt-numbing plastic hospital chairs and even the dusty magazines, but the smell of rubbing alcohol was just too.. overbearing. She wanted out. She didn't even really care about the cat that much, stupid thing.

Well, maybe she did -- just a little bit. The tabby had made Mayu so happy, and now her little sister was just another angsty teenager in the making.

This was ruining her mood.

Mayu rocked back and forth impatiently, glancing around at the other unfortunate animals that had been brought to the clinic and were waiting to be treated. They had all calmed when the group entered the hospital room, some special aura that the Legend held which seemed to calm angry animals (or something), but it was obvious that they were all in pain.

She was.. sad. Sad for all of the waiting animals, sad that they had not heard word from the doctors, sad that her cute little kitty was sick.

Sadness was a bad feeling. Mayu didn't want to be sad, but there seemed to be nothing in the world that could put a smile on the little girl's face.

The steel doors opened with a small "creeeek", two stoic-looking doctors holding clipboards standing behind them. They walked over to Kimiko with grim faces, and gave a heavy sigh.

"Well?" the teen demanded, clutching the Time magazine in her hands tightly.

"I'm sorry, Ms. Hinasaki." Doctor A (they were dubbed with letters, as they looked so similar) said, a small frown forming behind spectacled eyes. "There was nothing more we could do."

Doctor B lifted an arm, placing the limp body of the cat into the black-haired one's arms gingerly. It was a sad occasion indeed, when they could not save an animal's life.

"I.. understand," Kimiko said, head drooping. "You hold her, Mayu. I'll pay the bills."

Placing the corpse of the animal into her daughter's arms, Kimiko raised a hand to wipe away a forming tear and reached for her wallet. She was sad.. sad for Mayu.

"I don't understand.." the Legend said, stroking the orange hair of the kitten gently. "She's not moving.. why isn't she moving? Is she broken?"

Looking up through silver bangs, Mayu frowned at Kimiko. Was her kitten broken? If so, they could surely fix her, right?

"Please fix her.. She's one of my best friends.." she whispered, tears welling up in her eyes. The animals could feel Mayu's pain, all looking down in sadness.

"Mayu.. she's dead. There's nothing we can do anymore."

The Jumi got up from her seat on the chair, walking over to give the Legend a hug. She didn't like to see her so sad like this, nor did anyone else in the family.

"I don't understand." The Legend repeated this over and over, though she knew what happened deep down. She just wasn't ready to admit it.

"Yes.. Let's go home, alright?" Kimiko looked up, replacing the wallet in her purse. She motioned to the three girls to follow, pushing open the glass door.

"I'm sad.." she whispered, leaning a head on her guardian's arm.

"Death is a sad thing, Mayu."

"I understand."

It hurts to say farewell.

"She was.. a great cat, a loyal pet, and last of all, a good friend." Mayu concluded the eulogy with a sniff and stepped aside for Kimiko.

"Thank you, Mayu, that was a touching eulogy." Kimiko nodded to the girl, and looked up towards the small crowd. "Family, friends, thank you for gathering here today at the funeral of our family cat. She was indeed a good pet, and she seemed to take a fancy to Mayu, especially. With all of her little quirks came a kind of friendship, one between a pet and its owner, one that I don't think anyone in this world would pass up. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust."

She finished off the speech by pouring a handful of fine sand into the grave, and nodding. Picking up a shovel, she quickly filled in the hole and placed a rose on the freshly-turned earth, then stepped aside for the others to lay down their flowers.

Mayu had been sitting off to the side in all of this, silently watching the funeral process from the wooden floor of the patio. Looking up as Kimiko came to sit with her, she sighed and hugged her knees close.

"Why do things have to die?" she asked, looking up at the older girl. "And where do they go after they die?"

Kimiko heaved a sigh, and hugged her daughter tightly. She remember when she herself had gone through this phase earlier in life.

--------------------

"Mama! Maaaaama!" Little Kimiko shrieked, staring at her fishtank with worried eyes. Her fishy had stopped swimming.. was it sick? It didn't look like it was sleeping..

Hinasaki Chiyo had just finished boiling water for her daily relazing cup of tea as she heard her adopted daughter scream, and dashed toward the direction of the sound to find a worried-looking Kimiko and an upside-down fish.

"Child," the woman sighed, hugging the young girl close. "She's.. dead. Let's go out back and give her a good burial, okay?" It was better than saying they were "asleep". It wasn't so hard on the kid when they had to witness the funeral.

"Dead?" Kimi echoed, looking up at her mother with confused eyes. She knew what the term meant, of course, she was a bright young girl. However, no one close to her had died before, so she didn't quite understand the whole concept.. Blocking it out of her mind, essentially.

"Dead." Chiyo nodded sadly, and picked up the fish in one hand as she took the child's in the other. "Come on, let's get your papa. He'll dig a nice hole and make a gravemark for this little guy."

--------------------

"Death is a mysterious thing. You never know who it will take, when, and why. As for the afterlife, I'm not quite sure." Kimiko leaned back slightly, sighing. She could hear the bells of the cathedral ringing from far away, and she smiled sadly.

"But why did it have to take kitty?" Mayu asked, looking down sadly. The rest of the crowd had dissipated moments earlier, allowing Kimiko and Mayu to be alone in the backyard save for the nightmares fluttering about in their cage. Noticing a solitary wildflower peering up from the grass nearby, she plucked it from the ground and twirled it about in her hand slowly.

"I don't know," the teenage girl sighed, looking towards the sky. There were so many unanswered questions, questions that she, as much as the next person, would have liked answered.

"I understand," the Legend whispered, in a moment that was oddly reminscent of the clinic ordeal, and ran a finger over the flower's petals. "I'm sad now.." she said, hugging her knees close.

"That's okay, I'm sad too. Death is a sad thing, expecially if you loved the person or thing very much." Kimiko released her daughter from the hug and stood up, looking down at the child. "Are you ready to come back inside? It looks like it's going to rain."

"Yeah, just a moment." she smiled at Kimiko, and looked towards the sky. The thick clouds were beginning to roll in, and she could feel cool raindrops fall upon her face. They came slowly at first, and then started to pour down as the rays of the sun quickly became obscured in the midst of the rain.

"Alright," Kimiko nodded, and returned to the living room -- it was time to prepare lunch. None of the family could see Mayu's face, and maybe it was for the best; the Legend allowed the petals of the wildflower to fly away in the wind, and buried her head in her knees, sobbing.

Online Mishaps.

Mayu Potpie: Hi. ^^
deCLmiaARnE: Hello. smile
Mayu Potpie: Didn't expect to see you on this late.
deCLmiaARnE: Oh, I was just looking up some things. I thought maybe I could find some information online.
deCLmiaARnE: What about you? I normally don't see you around this time.
Mayu Potpie: What sort of things? And I'm just bored, I guess. Everyone else is watching a horror movie or something.. You know I dislike them. razz
deCLmiaARnE: I'm trying to find information on some of the books Neko has, actually. I'm having trouble finding what I want to know about necromancy, and I was hoping the internet would hold information on any specific books to look for instead of reading through everything.
deCLmiaARnE: Oh, yes... I know. smile No more of those for you, at least at night.
Mayu Potpie: Hehe. Um... Search engines are always helpful if you know what to type in. ^^
deCLmiaARnE: I seem to be having trouble. sad Maybe I'm not using the right keywords.
Mayu Potpie: Try to be more specific? I dunno. xP
deCLmiaARnE: specific has nothing to do with it
deCLmiaARnE: Oh, that's right. HE keeps messing up my words. >/
deCLmiaARnE: i told you you dont need to look it up
deCLmiaARnE: Oh hush. I want to.
Mayu Potpie: razz That's mean. Please stop?
deCLmiaARnE: stop what
deCLmiaARnE: him looking for that s**t
deCLmiaARnE: OKAY
deCLmiaARnE: Demian...
Mayu Potpie: Um.. Maybe I could help? I have nothing to do anyway. ^^;
deCLmiaARnE: dont help him
deCLmiaARnE: he doesnt need to look it up
deCLmiaARnE: Sigh. It would actually be appreciated it.
deCLmiaARnE: no it wouldnt
deCLmiaARnE: DEMIAN STOP IT!
deCLmiaARnE: Anyway, what I'm looking for is information on attaches souls to bodies. I want to know how to do it.
Mayu Potpie: No, I meant stop messing up his searches.. ><;
Mayu Potpie: Ah.. okay, I'll try razz
Mayu Potpie: Oh.. Found something! Is this good?
deCLmiaARnE: ...Actually, that's close to what I'm looking for. Was there anything else? I've already looked through the books this one listed.
Mayu Potpie: No, I'm still looking... What do you need this for? Just curious.
deCLmiaARnE: nothing
deCLmiaARnE: hes being stupid
deCLmiaARnE: I'll have to tell you another time. It's hard to explain anything when Demian is allowed to talk as well.
Mayu Potpie: Ooh.. Okay.
Mayu Potpie: Um... Would you like to come to my house any time soon? I would really appreciate the company... ^^~
deCLmiaARnE: S... sure! I'll talk to Neko and see if maybe we can go over there sometime this week. smile It's been a little while, hasn't it?
Mayu Potpie: Yeah, it has. It's a bit lonely here now, what with my cat... dying. ._.
deCLmiaARnE: What? sad What happened??
Mayu Potpie: I don't know, she just wasn't moving one morning.. We took her to the pet clinic and they tried to operate but failed.
deCLmiaARnE: Oh my gosh... Mayu, I'm so sorry. sad
Mayu Potpie: I'm okay. Don't worry about me. ^^ So.. how's that search going?
deCLmiaARnE: I'm going to give up on it for now, as much as I hate to do so. Demian is making it too difficult to search for anything, so I'll have to try again when he's asleep.
deCLmiaARnE: ill never sleep
deCLmiaARnE: ...
Mayu Potpie: Heh. razz
deCLmiaARnE: One day, I won't have to deal with this anymore... =_= Oh, what a wonderful dream that is.
Mayu Potpie: Well, good luck with that biggrin I'll keep on searching in the meantime..
deCLmiaARnE: I appreciate it, despite anything Demian might say.
deCLmiaARnE: But... don't push yourself, okay?
Mayu Potpie: Hehe. Oh, another site turned up..
deCLmiaARnE: I know you told me not to worry, but I do anyway.
deCLmiaARnE: Oh! That has something...
Mayu Potpie: Stop worrying about me so much. ^^ I like to help.
deCLmiaARnE: Still... I will try not to worry too much, though.
Mayu Potpie: Glad I could be of help. biggrin And I'll be fine. I promise.
deCLmiaARnE: Okay... I believe you. smile If there's anything I can do, let me know, too. I like helping, too.
Mayu Potpie: Alright. ^^
Mayu Potpie: I'll keep that in mind, thanks. Eek, Kimiko is coming up to check on what I'm doing.. She might take over the laptop for a sec.
Mayu Potpie: Hey. Who is this?
deCLmiaARnE: U-um... Hi! This is Cla... I mean, Demare.
Mayu Potpie: Oh yeah, right, Mayu's little boyfriend. Say hi to Neko for me.
deCLmiaARnE: Boy... huh?
deCLmiaARnE: Neko says hello. smile
Mayu Potpie: Eh, I saw you two that morning. I'll leave you two alone. But if you try to make a move on her, I have an assortment of knives, a shovel, and 5 acres of land in the backyard. Ta-ta~
Mayu Potpie: razz She's so embarassing!
deCLmiaARnE: @///@ Q-quite...
deCLmiaARnE: Hey, Mayu?
Mayu Potpie: Yeah?
deCLmiaARnE: What is this... boy... friend she mentioned? I'm afraid I don't understand.
Mayu Potpie: Umm... I heard it being used on TV once. I think it's a guy that you're going out with...?
deCLmiaARnE: Going out with? You mean like for walks and such?
Mayu Potpie: No, they always used the word "date" too, and I don't think it refers to a calendar date..
deCLmiaARnE: ...Oh! ...OH! @///@ O-oh my! B-but... we're still kids! Adults have very strange thoughts...
Mayu Potpie: My older sister is walking by, I'll ask her!
Mayu Potpie: Yo. So you want to know what going out means? It's like you're in a relationship, but not that serious. It's like... kissing, hugging, that kind of stuff. Not like doing it or anything.
deCLmiaARnE: Doing... it?
Mayu Potpie: I think she's having a blushing fit right now, I'll go kick her or summin.
Mayu Potpie: And you know, Rod A goes into Slot B?
deCLmiaARnE: Rod... slot... What???? @@ That makese no sense. I don't understand this... language you use.
Mayu Potpie: omg, go ask your mom or something. I'll get in trouble for telling kids about this stuff.
deCLmiaARnE: Um... okay.
deCLmiaARnE: ... I... ... That is......... ....I don't even know what to SAY to that.
Mayu Potpie: Okay, sorry about that. >///< Adults are so weird.. Tell me what it means too!
Mayu Potpie: What, what?? Tell me!
deCLmiaARnE: U-um... A-are you SURE you want to know?
Mayu Potpie: Yes! I'm curious! biggrin
deCLmiaARnE: Two people... having...
deCLmiaARnE: S... ssss.... .........It's hard to even type it.
Mayu Potpie: Sandwiches? Spaghetti?
deCLmiaARnE: sex
deCLmiaARnE: ...
deCLmiaARnE: Erm, yes.
Mayu Potpie: ...... Oh my. @///@
Mayu Potpie: ...well.
deCLmiaARnE: I... Man. That... baffles me. We're still... KIDS. sad
deCLmiaARnE: I can see the... hugging... but...
Mayu Potpie: Adults think the weirdest things...
deCLmiaARnE: So... embarressing... @///@
Mayu Potpie: And we only hugged.. um... 6 or 7 times.
Mayu Potpie: I know, right?
deCLmiaARnE: You... kept track?
Mayu Potpie: ...yeah. Is that weird? <.<;
deCLmiaARnE: N-no! I was... just surprised. @///@ I think it was somewhere around that.
Mayu Potpie: Hehe, I thought it was kinda weird myself keeping track.. But yeah.
deCLmiaARnE: It's... actually kind of cute. smile
Mayu Potpie: ^^ Thanks. Whoa, I think my mom must be psychic or something, because she just yelled from downstairs, "WHAT DID I TELL YOU ABOUT FLIRTING WITH HER??"
deCLmiaARnE: sad
Mayu Potpie: razz Don't mind her. I appreciate the compliment. ^///^
deCLmiaARnE: I guess that's really all that matters, right? At least, that's what Neko tells me whenever I ask her about people's reactions to things.
deCLmiaARnE: She told me not to worry about Kimiko so much for some reason. She mentioned something about her just being... overprotective? And that I should just do what I feel it right.
Mayu Potpie: Yeah, I guess. But if you ask me, you're pretty cute yourself. ^^
Mayu Potpie: She is really overprotective. xD You can't beat that.
deCLmiaARnE: @///@ I... am...?
Mayu Potpie: Of course, why do you think I kept hugging you so much? razz
deCLmiaARnE: ...
deCLmiaARnE: I... don't know. o_o
deCLmiaARnE: That is quite the valid point.
Mayu Potpie: Hehe.
Mayu Potpie: hi
Mayu Potpie: who is this
deCLmiaARnE: Hm? Mayu, you know who this is.
Mayu Potpie: ??thsi isnt mayu
Mayu Potpie: im her sister
deCLmiaARnE: ...How many sisters does she have? I'm afraid I don't know any of you. I've only met Kimiko and Mayu.
Mayu Potpie: 2
deCLmiaARnE: My name is Demare.
deCLmiaARnE: Two?
Mayu Potpie: yep
deCLmiaARnE: Wow. I have two sisters, too.
Mayu Potpie: im verde
deCLmiaARnE: It's nice to meet you, Verde.
Mayu Potpie: yep u to
Mayu Potpie: Sorry about that.
Mayu Potpie: My little sister got bored of watching the movie I guess and snuck on while I was looking for something.
deCLmiaARnE: Ha ha. I see.
Mayu Potpie: Okay, she's going to start whining if I don't let her back on razz
Mayu Potpie: yay
deCLmiaARnE: Uh, hello again.
Mayu Potpie: hi
deCLmiaARnE: So...
deCLmiaARnE: ...How are you?
Mayu Potpie: um good
Mayu Potpie: we wer watchin g som movie about a murdrer but it wus boring
deCLmiaARnE: Oh? What movie was that?
Mayu Potpie: umm
Mayu Potpie: nitemare on elm st
Mayu Potpie: i thnk
deCLmiaARnE: ...She's letting you guys watch that? o_o How old are you?
Mayu Potpie: 5 biggrin
Mayu Potpie: our mom is weird
deCLmiaARnE: Wow. Even Neko won't let half the people that live here watch something like that. She was reluctant to let me watch Chucky.
Mayu Potpie: our mom lets us watch scary movies all the time
Mayu Potpie: she turns the lights off at the scary parts
deCLmiaARnE: I'm sorry. Does she do that on purpose?
Mayu Potpie: yea i thnk shes rly weird
Mayu Potpie: but she pops a bag of popcorn every 10 minutes
Mayu Potpie: i dunno wher she gets all of it
deCLmiaARnE: Well, popcorn really is the best snack for a movie, and it's fairly easy to come by.
Mayu Potpie: yep but its like she has tons of it she never runs out
Mayu Potpie: i smell popcorn bye
Mayu Potpie: Okay, sorry about that.
deCLmiaARnE: That's okay. I guess it's similar to how Demian takes over the keyboard when I'm on the computer.
deCLmiaARnE: rotten little twit
deCLmiaARnE: ...Like that.
Mayu Potpie: Heh..
Mayu Potpie: Kinda.
Mayu Potpie: Hmm... So what're you doing now? I think Kimiko turned off the lights downstairs again, I can hear screaming and hysterical laughing. mad
deCLmiaARnE: Oh, nothing really. I took some notes from the page you sent me, and I was thinking of trying to take a look through Neko's books later to see if I could find it. Other than that, I guess I'm just sitting here.
Mayu Potpie: Ooh.. I'm just looking through some web catalogs.
Mayu Potpie: But it's a bit pointless because I don't think Kimiko will order any of this stuff for me.
deCLmiaARnE: Oh? What kind of stuff are you looking at?
Mayu Potpie: Clothes.. hats.. stuff like that.
deCLmiaARnE: What kind of clothes?
Mayu Potpie:
Mayu Potpie: Stuff like that.
deCLmiaARnE: Those are... pretty. Lots of ribbons. But it seems so dark somehow.
Mayu Potpie: I'm looking at the more pastel-y colors for the dresses.
Mayu Potpie: And of course, you saw my bunny hat -- I'm trying to get more hats like it. razz If I can't find any other hats like that, I can always just make my own.. Though I'm sure it'll look horrible.
deCLmiaARnE: I think those dresses would look very nice on you.
deCLmiaARnE: Oh, I remember that hat. It was cute!
Mayu Potpie: Kimiko found it while we were shopping at the big marketplace in Gambino. She bought tons of them.
Mayu Potpie: I don't think I would look good in those dresses.. ^^;;
deCLmiaARnE: Why not?
Mayu Potpie: Just.. because. razz
deCLmiaARnE: because your ugly
deCLmiaARnE: Demian...
deCLmiaARnE: she is its all that ******** PINK
deCLmiaARnE: She didn't ask for your opinion.
deCLmiaARnE: im giving it anyway
deCLmiaARnE: ...
deCLmiaARnE: Don't listen to him.
Mayu Potpie: razz I won't.
deCLmiaARnE: I think you're beautiful...
deCLmiaARnE: sap
deCLmiaARnE: SHUT UP!
Mayu Potpie: ...Thanks. ^^
deCLmiaARnE: I really mean that, though... I really do think you're pretty.
deCLmiaARnE: p***y
deCLmiaARnE: And I think a dress like the ones you showed me would look very nice on you.
deCLmiaARnE: just ******** her already
deCLmiaARnE: Excuse me?
deCLmiaARnE: you heard me
Mayu Potpie: ...
deCLmiaARnE: Okay, THAT'S IT.
Mayu Potpie: I think I should stay out of this ^^;;
deCLmiaARnE: I'm sorry... He's being very rude right now. =_=
Mayu Potpie: It's okay.
deCLmiaARnE: I really hope my plan will work someday... Things will be so much better if I can pull it off.
Mayu Potpie: I still want to hear what the plan is. biggrin
deCLmiaARnE: When I go to see you next, remind me and I will tell you.
Mayu Potpie: Okay.
deCLmiaARnE: Without interruptions from you know who. =_=
Mayu Potpie: I'm curious to hear it. ^^
deCLmiaARnE: You might like it, actually.
Mayu Potpie: Oh?
deCLmiaARnE: Maybe. I don't really know, as... I'm not entirely sure how you feel about him.
Mayu Potpie: I don't mind him that much, there are rude people in life and you just have to accept them razz No matter how mean they are.
deCLmiaARnE: ...Try living with him, and then saying that again. ^^;;
Mayu Potpie: Heh, I guess there are some things you have to see first-hand to really understand.
Mayu Potpie: Is it really that bad?
deCLmiaARnE: Mayu... he manipulated the body while I was still in it to break your branch... He's been tormenting me mentally for the past year and a half. ._. He's almost killed Micheal, someone we're supposed to be taking care of, several times. I get in more trouble than he does, because no one outside of the house knows about him save for whomever I'm telling now. I'm... I'm tired of it...
Mayu Potpie: >< I'm sorry.. And there's nothing you can do to help it?
deCLmiaARnE: I've tried being nice to him. I've allowed him to do things that I shouldn't have. I don't know what else to do anymore...
Mayu Potpie: Hmm...
deCLmiaARnE: I've already decided on what I'm doing. You'll understand more once I'm able to tell you everything.
Mayu Potpie: Alright.
Mayu Potpie: Oh wow.. it's getting late. @_@
deCLmiaARnE: Oh! Yes, yes it is. I think I need to be going... I want to try to find something before Demian steals the body back.
Mayu Potpie: Alright, good luck. ^^ I think I'm going to go to sleep.. I'm tired.
Mayu Potpie: Night!
deCLmiaARnE: Sleep well! Goodnight, Mayu.

Wayward thoughts and a devious plan.

Dear diary ...

Dear diary,

I have a plan. I know how to get her back now.

I was talking with Demare last night, and he was saying something about.. souls. It got me to wondering, could I somehow bring back my kitty if I could find a suitable body for her? I did some research on this.. I think I should be able to.

The hard part will be finding her soul. I wonder, where do you go when you die? Is it a big place? If so, then how big is it? I guess I'll find out soon, won't I?

But that's enough of a depressing subject for now, I'll write more about my plan in the next entry. Now, let's talk about recent events.

Demare came to visit yesterday.. He cheered me up a lot.

I think Kimiko called him because I had pretty much holed myself up in my room for the last few days, and I guess she was worried. I didn't think that they would be worried about me, really, so I was pretty shocked to see him here. We talked for a bit, and then he asked where we kept the bandages in this house.

It was a weird question, but I pointed him to the bathroom. I saw his right arm had been bloody (well, bloodier than usual, at least) and I thought he had wanted them to re-bandage his arm. I guess I was wrong, he actually

Misery pays no salary, so...

The steel blade felt cool against her skin.

It was the early morning – if you could call it that, even, more like the transition between night and day. The sky was still overcast with the blanket of night, and not a noise was heard around the normally bustling house. Perfect.

The talaye, Verde, Miyu, other various pets, and the head of the dysfunctional family were all asleep in their cosy little beds, leaving only the tree girl awake to initiate her devious plot. It was still rather early, still another hour before the “early bird” Kimiko woke up – and the teen was the first one up out of everyone in the house.

The silver-haired child held up a hand to stifle a small yawn. Very unbefitting for the mood that she was trying to set, at any cost.

And with a tip of his hat, Happiness went and left me again.

She had been briefly visited by happiness the day before, with a tip of his top hat and a tap of his cane. It had been like a surreal dream, almost... She really did have to thank Kimiko for calling Clare when she needed a friend the most – though the teen probably wasn’t too happy about the events that had too place after he had arrived. But, alas, with the departure of her dear friend, the brief visit that happiness had made ended as well.

Please, happiness, do visit me again.

She was going to change that. She didn’t want to be sad anymore. She knew what was the key was to getting her happiness back, and she was going to retrieve it... at any cost. She had made her friends, her family, the people she cared about depressed enough with her low mood, and she wanted to change that. She didn’t want them to be sad for her anymore.

Mayu hesitated as she pressed the blade of the kitchen knife to her wrist; it was sharp, Kimiko always kept her knives in pristine condition. Death by blood loss was a horrid way to go, but it was better than strangling herself or jumping out of a window... The first one sounded too horrible, and the second.. well, she needed a body to go back to, didn’t she? It was completely out of the question.

Taking a moment to think, the child removed the knife from its position above her arm, wiping away the drop of blood that dripped down from the small cut that she had already made. She was certain that it wouldn’t be too long in finding her cat, and that she would be able to come back after death. How would this affect her family, however? She didn’t want anyone to worry about her, not more than they had already done. Especially not Clare.

Dropping the blade for a brief moment, the child rose from her sitting position to get her pen and journal. They needed to know that she would be okay. Penning down a few words on a blank page, Mayu laid down the book carefully at the edge of the sink at a place where she knew it was going to be seen. Now they didn’t have to worry.
She picked up the knife from where she had dropped it before, and raised a hand to lock the door of the small bathroom. Heaving a heavy sigh, the child looked about her and gave a slight frown. She was going to do it, no more hesitations.

Good-bye, happiness! Good-bye, misery! I shan’t be seeing you two again for quite some time.

Mayu clenched her teeth as she pressed the knife to her flesh, drawing the sharp blade down her vein. Repeating the motion with the other arm, the child gritted her teeth as she fell to her feet. The pain was nothing, nothing compared to what she might have suffered. Her vision began to blur as the blood dripped down her arms, and she looked down at the bathroom rug with a slight frown. The tiles and rug were all dirty... what a shame. Kimiko would have some extra cleaning to do this week.

As the life’s bloof rushed out of her body, the tree girl fell to the floor. As she began to lose consciousness, the grasping arms of Death reached up to claim her soul.

Please, happiness, do come visit me again soon.

Fools will be fools.

The loud alarm rose the teen, as it did every other day.

“Good morning, Durem City! It is now 6:00 AM, and the skies are looking absolutely splendid! I tell ya, folks–“

Clicking off her morning alarm, the black-haired girl slowly shuffled out of bed and into her fuzzy slippers. She shuffled into her bathroom reluctantly, as if she didn’t want to be awake right then and there... which she didn’t, really. But her experiments were calling for her, and she had to be the first one up so the other family members wouldn’t suspect.

“I always hated that radio announcer,” the teen muttered, hovering a searching hand over the various items scattered over the counter. Plucking up a toothbrush from the mess of hairstyling tools and unused make-up, Kimiko tapped the head on the counter impatiently as she scanned over the items once more.

Tap... tap... tap.

“...s**t, no toothpaste.”

It was not a good way to start a day. Giving an exasperated sigh, Kimi rubbed her eyes profusely as she slid out of her room and into the hallway. The kids wouldn’t mind if she raided the hallway restroom for some of their toothpaste, now would they? Besides, she wasn’t going to use much... she hoped. The fruit flavoring was too addictive, honestly, and even more for her as she had grown accustomed to the stale minty-flavored taste of the “adult” toothpastes. It would be a nice change from the ordinary, at least.

The teen rose her hand to open the door but hesitated for a moment, as if she had gotten some sort of ominous feeling. Strange, a chill had run down her spine as she had tried to grasp the door handle. She felt... uneased, as if something was terribly wrong. Taking a deep breath, she shook off the uneasy feelings and grasped the doorknob, giving it a sharp turn.

It was locked.

It shouldn’t have been locked. Kimiko knew for a fact that she was, had been, and would always be, the first one up. No one should have been awake at that time. Unless, by chance, one of the children had locked themselves in the bathroom and fallen asleep – but that was rather unlikely. How curious...

Now just a little more unnerved – which was saying a lot for the girl who laughed in the face of danger and normally fear-inducing items – and a little bit anxious, the black-haired girl reached for the knob again. Giving it a jiggle, she frowned.

Definately locked.

The teen was shaking now, though she had no idea why she was so frightened. It was just her bathroom! Most likely she would find one of the kids curled up inside, snoring away. But something at the back of her mind was picking.. picking away. She had a bad feeling about this.

Fighting the screams of “NO, DON’T DO IT” that erupted from the corner of her brain, Kimiko stepped back to her room cautiously. She picked up a large paperclip from her cluttered writing desk, and unbent to make a useful lock-picking utensil. She would definitely be able to get in this way, unless the door was being barricaded from the inside – she was quite experiences with dismantling locks, having learned the craft to bust in on her children if she suspected that something was up. Now armed with her “master key”, she made the way back to the restroom door. Her hands started shaking uncontrollably again as she neared the door, and the flustered girl looked down at them in fear as she glanced back up at the white-painted door.

“It’s just a door,” she chanted like a mantra, as she tried to steady herself to unlock the door. After a few unsuccessful tries, she finally slid the straightened paperclip into the keyhole. With a few skillful jiggles, the tumbles slid into place and the door clicked open. She was afraid. Why was she so afraid?

Kimi pushed open the door slowly after a moment of hesitation. Immediately, at the sight of blood, she stumbled back and into the wall. And Kimiko wasn’t a squeamish person, not by any standards. Already weakened by the sight of splattered blood across the bright white tiles, the teen fell to her knees as she took in the grisly scene before her. Her hand moved up almost mechanically to touch her cheek, and a solitary tear slid from her eye. This wasn’t right. She never cried.

“Mayu..” Kimiko choked through the tears that had begun to pour down, shaking violently for a moment before rising to her feet. Stepping gingerly into the room, she slowly shut the door behind her and took another long look at what was being presented in front of her. She wanted to cry again. What a painful feeling..

But she couldn’t. She had to steel her heart at that moment so she could take appropriate action. Not until that was completed could she cry again. Taking a deep breath, the teen began to assess the situation.

The body of her daughter was sprawled out in the middle of the room, clutching a sharp kitchen knife which was obviously pilfered from the kitchen cabinet (she would have to secure those better in the future). Kimiko stepped around the corpse carefully, picking up the diary which was so carefully laid on the edge of the sink for her to see. Taking a seat on the edge of the bathtub, she began to read...

Mayu’s Diary

Dear family, friends, all who know me that may read this,

When you see this note, I will already be gone. But don’t worry - I will be back soon! And I’ll get our kitty back as well. Believe in me, and don’t worry. I’ll be fine, and I will succeed.

-Mayu

With a frown, the teen slowly closed the diary and placed it back onto the counter. Rising from her seat, she bent down to take the knife from Mayu’s hand. She had a bit of trouble wresting the blade from the closed hand – a bad sign, that meant the body was already stiffening from rigor mortis. She needed to hurry. Perhaps, if she put all of her knowledge of human transmutation into this, just maybe, with alchemy, she would be able to bring her back... No, she would bring her back.

There was no time to waste. After giving the blood-stained knife a rinse under the sink, Kimiko placed it carefully next to the diary and returned to the body. Cradling it gently in her arms, the black-haired girl hurried down to her basement-combination-lab. She laid Mayu down in the center of the floor, taking a long look at her daughter before running back upstairs with an arsenal of cleaning supplies and a heavy-duty towel. None of the other kids could know, they were distressed enough over the passing of the family cat; they didn’t need something like this to deal with as well, not so soon.

And as soon as she finished cleaning up, she would be hitting the books. There was no time to waste, indeed.

“Mayu, you fool,” Kimiko muttered underneath her breath, before shutting the bathroom door quietly behind her.

No time to waste.
