"Heeeeey~!" Jiyuu complained, whapping his sister in the face with his wing in retaliation for the nipping. "Knock it off, sis!"
Toshiro suppressed a light chuckle and moved to help the two foals. Once the tangle was successfully broken, he stepped bak again to give them more room to move around. "I have to say, I'm not entirely sure how you managed that. Quite a talent there." He couldn't help but give his son a little light teasing after all.
The colt ruffled and readjusted his wings on his back once the pair of them were free, his face still a touch red from embarrassment. "Thanks, dad," he mumbled, fighting his immediate inclination to preen. Instead he turned back to Embri to see how she was fairing. "Erm, I didn't hurt you there, did I?"

"No more than I hurt myself." Embri rose awkwardly to her hooves again. this time making sure they were planted well apart to compensate for her unsteadiness. "I do believe, if no one has any objections... I very much need a bath. I stink." Nose delicately wrinkled in protest, she tries unsuccessfully to loosen more of the dried mud from her flank.
The filly eyes Jiyuu. "You could probably do with one too, I'm afraid." As an afterthought, she looks up at Toshiro. "That is.. if you have no objection..." So big. Toshiro was easily the largest Kirin Embri had ever met, even bigger than Helki. It was a little intimidating, despite the total lack of any sign of aggression.

Chione grinned cheekily, shaking her head cheerfully. "Jii? Bathe? Don't worry about it, he's always like that." She stuck her tongue out at her brother, dancing about from one foot to the other, the light chill in the morning air having got to her. "Dad? We can show her to the river..."

The colt glared over at his older sister, although not seriously. "You're the one with the cooties you know," Jiyuu muttered, shaking himself off a bit. Were sisters always such a pain in the butt?
Toshiro smiled down at the three, amused by their banter. The cream filly certainly seemed quite mature for her age. "A dip in the river would probably be a good idea. As long as you stay in the shadows it's perfectly safe."
Jiyuu smiled at this, happy that his father had agreed to the idea. The river wasn't very far from here at all, so it wasn't unusual for them to be allowed to go there on their own from time to time. Turning back to Embri, he said cheerily, "Come on- we can show you the way." The colt stepped outside of their humble abode before stopping to wait for the two fillies. He would be acting as their guard should anything go awry.

Embri nodded at Toshiro, trying not to twitch. Her fur was so itchy! She wanted nothing more but to drop to the ground and roll it all away in the sand, but knew that would be a mistake, sore as she was. With excessive care, she picks her way through the vegetation one eye on the bouncing colt ahead, the other on her path. "Wait, what's a cootie? And why does your sister have them?" Embri looked puzzled, looking towards Chione.
"Is he always this energetic?" Embri tilts her head towards the other filly, muzzle nodding slightly towards her brother. Nostrils flaring, the filly caught the scent of water ahead, then the gentle babble of the stream. Ears perked, she picks up the pace a bit, eager to be clean again.

Chione snorted at her brother's revelation, then fell in just to the side of the filly, watching her closely in the event she took another topple. Seemed steady enough on her feet now, thank goodness. Her eyes flicked to Embri at the question. She pursed her lips in thought. "I think a cootie is like a bug." Her eyes narrowed at her brother. "And if I have them, it's only because he gave them to me." She clopped a little hoof, punctuating the accusation.
At the second question, she nodded somberly. "Always. Without question." It was a little irritating sometimes, in that way that only brothers could be. She picked out the large rock that marked their nearing the stream. Ah, almost there.

Jiyuu rolled his eyes at the two, choosing to ignore his sister's claim of him having cooties. "I'm not that energetic..." he replied, continuing to lead the way for the two of them. "I'm just alert is all. Ah, we're here!" The colt pushed some foliage aside to reveal the stream in front of them. Holding the plants back, he gave a small nod of his head and said, "Ladies first."

"A bug?" Embri flicked back her ears, lip curling in distaste. Bugs were an annoyance at best, a real pain at the worst. "Hopefully they're not the biting kind..." She nodded at Jiyuu, favoring him with a tired smile. "Energetic he may be, but at least he's got manners."
The stream glittered in the dappled light filtering down through the canopy of leaves above, sea breeze ruffling the foliage with a pleasant sound. The cream filly hesistated at the edge of the water, unbidden fear asserting itself. Silly... the water can't hurt me. Stepping into the stream, she half-falls into the shallow water, shaking it over her back like a bird.
Ugh... I'm filthy. "My feathers are never going to look the same." Mournfully she picks at the matted pinions, settling her rump against a rock downstream. I doubt the young ones want to bathe in the water after it's been by me. Faint ribbons of brown mud and dirt swirled away from Embri's flanks like muddy contrails.

"Alert." Chione grinned broadly. "I don't know if they bite, but I've heard the colts have a pred-... dis-... predisposition." She chewed on the word a moment, finally spitting it out.
She watched Embri for a moment, then moved to the water's edge, slipping inside with a light shiver. Twittering, her feathers ruffled. "Brr! Cold today." Swishing the water with her hooves, she debated silently. She likely needed the bath, but it was somewhat frigid. The other filly was stomaching it without complaint, though. Taking a deep breath, she ducked down in the water, loosing a tiny squeal. Gritting her teeth to keep her teeth from chattering, she forced out a strained, "They'll come clean..."

At any other time Jiyuu would have immediately taken the opportunity to pounce in the water and splash his sister, but he held back at the moment to keep from feeding their idea that he was too 'energetic'. "Oh really now? And just where might you have heard that, dear sis?" the colt replied with a tiny smirk, joining them in the river. It probably wouldn't hurt to wash off the salt water from earlier after all. He turned his attention back to the cream filly, who was still looking mournful over her damaged plumage. "Don't worry, Embri. They'll grow back alright," he said with a smile. "I've broken my fair share of feathers before."

"But they just finished growing in... " With a slight shake of her head, Embri trailed off. It was pointless to bemoan was could not be recovered. The cold felt good on her aching muscles, numbing the pain. Leaning from one side to the other, she rinsed out her wings as best she could, shaking off the water with a grimace. The rest of her was more problematical. Finally she resorted to dunking her head under the stream and shaking the dirt from her mane and tail. As clean as could be managed, the filly waded back towards shore, holding her wings out to drip dry in a patch of sunlight.
Thoughtfully she studied her two companions. The filly could well be Lachtna's daughter, if I didn't know such was not the case. The other... is certainly the most colorful Kirin I've seen yet. And both winged... maybe wings are normal, after all! Still, she knew winged Kirin weren't that common - none of the Kirin herds she had seen from a distance seemed to have them. Maybe they all live by the water. Helki lives on an island, this herd seems to live on the beach. I wonder if my parents could be out there somewhere.

Jiyuu rolled around in the water for a bit before joining Embri back on the land. Still dripping wet, he gave a good shake to get the water out of his fur and feathers. "Ah, a dip in the water always feels so nice," he remarked to no one in particular, giving his wing a light preening. After a moment he noticed Embri's thoughtful silence and turned to look at her. "Something on your mind?" he asked, settling his wings back down on his back. He could always finish preening them later.

Chione slogged out behind the other pair, moving away to shake the water from her fur and wings. Giggling softly, she sent droplets flying, then crossed back toward the pair. She craned her head to tame a few feathers back to place, frowning somewhat. She was too afraid to ask, too afraid that she might call up some painful memories for the filly. After all, she had looked so sad... "Maybe we can help."

"Hey, what are you- ack!" With a muffled giggle the filly shielded herself with wet wings as the water started to fly. "That's not very dignified." Lips quirked, she flicked her tail at Chione and one wing in Jiyuu's direction. I guess I was drifting off into thought again. Lachtna never seemed to notice.
"I was thinking about how you," Embri nodded in Chione's direction, "look much like Lachtna. Well, except for the green and the wings." She put on her best brave face, trying not to look disheartened. He hasn't come looking for me yet... surely he's looking? She turned her head back towards the trail that they had arrived on, carefully picking her footing. Last thing I need now is to slip and fall.

"Ah right, your friend," Jiyuu replied, looking past the stream thoughtfully. It had to be quite sad losing track of someone you'd been with all of you life. Looking back at Embri, he smiled encouragingly in hopes of cheering her up. "Once you're better we'll certainly help you look for him," the colt declared with a confident nod. "You said you guys lived on the beach as well, right? He shouldn't be that difficult to find with all of us helping."
