"Yes, big brother," Ahiga said getting up and dusting his pants. This was exciting. Eventhough he was used to going on hunts for many days with Tahatan the thought of camping outside your own teepee was something he had never done before at any rate. Getting up Ahiga suddenly remembered that he had dropped his share of he hunting spoils when he had returned home earlier.

"Ah...I dropped some meat ealier when I reached the teepee... perhaps we can find it after we've taken the furs?" the little boy asked hopefully afraid that the meat would be rotten if it was left out any longer.

Talencia looked over at Ahiga with a smile. "If you remember exactly where you dropped them, perhaps we could retrieve them first and let Tahatan have a job other than to sit and be lazy." She grinned at Tahatan to show she was teasing him.

Meanwhile, within the darkened teepee, Delphia sat up with a startled snort and looked around in a panic. The babies. Where were the babies? Her heart was pounding from the terrible dream she'd had. The foals had been ripped from her, leaving her too weak to protest as the evil hunters had swept her foals away.

Before she moved to lunge to her feet in search of her stolen children, she became aware of Sora laying next to her. Her heart slowed. Sora would never have let those hunters tear her foals away from her like that. He wouldn't be laying, breathing quietly next to her, if their offspring had been foalnapped. Her breathing slowed from the paniced heaving to merely deep, calming breaths. All was well.

Just then she heard one of the foals stir in it's basket, rustling lightly. She flared her nostrils and took in the two new individual scents that were her children. Yes, all was well. Their family was safe and sound. With a last blow of breath through her nose, she laid her head down against Sora's warm hide and slowly relaxed each muscle in her body. Before she had mentally finished her tally of parts to relax, she was sound asleep.

At this he raised his eyebrows. What did they think he was doing? Idly sitting by with two soquilis and three baskets to guard??
He sighed, slightly muttering to himself. "Well.....you two best be going before it gets darker. I'll find the meat and perhaps we can have stew when you return."
Tahatan's face remained impassive towards Talencia, frankly he was a little worried, no doubt the woman can defend herself with a soquili, but now she will be alone with Ahiga..atleast until they reach her home....bleh, he shook his head to rid of those dark thoughts and began scouting around the teepee. Soon he found the small bundle and brought it back, cutting it out neatly and laying the contents by the fire. They'll have a good meal tonight atleast.

The grey stallion kicked slightly in his sleep, snorting happily. There he was ontop of the hill within the forest, gazing behind him the two strong foals and they'll race across the wind swept fields together.
A smile spread on the handsome soquili face and he nestled closer to Delphia.

"Yay! You've found it!" Ahiga cheered in delight; partly because he noticed that the meat wasn't spoilt yet and partly because it saved him the trouble of hunting for it later. " Shall we go collect the furs now?" Ahiga asked running up to Talencia.

((Let's skip ahead a bit, shall we?))

The next day Delphia was feeling much better. She stood and nosed her way out of the teepee. There she found all three humans curled under furs that smelled as if they had come from her own teepee. She walked over and nuzzled and shoved at Talencia with her nose until she awoke.

"Oh, Delphia, good morning! I'm so proud of you!" Tal rose swiftly and flung her arms about the mare's neck. "I can hardly wait until they emerge from their baskets!" She turned then to see if the other two were awake yet.

With just the top of his head poking out, the young hunter rolled over and slept on eventhough the sun was shining high and bright.

Sora came out after Delphia. He had been sniffing at the baskets to see if they were alright before threading his way out and solidly standing next to the mare.
He whickered at Talencia before poking his head into the furs and roughly blowing at Tahatan and Ahiga. Why were they still in the large hairy thing. Usually big brother and little playmate were up and about when the sun peeps from the mountains. He started to n**.

He awoke with a start, pushing the large soquili away, "SORA!" Tahatan yelled, then sat there, blinking sleepily.

Inside the teepee, one of the baskets twitched slightly. The movement was so subtle one could fool themselves into believing it hadn't happened...until it twitched again, a few moments later. Then the lid nudged aside a bit to reveal a small grey nose, nostrils flaring curiously. A soft whinny was heard before the nose withdrew, and the foal inside waited to see what would happen.

His mother's newly found heightened senses heard the soft whinny and turned from Tal's side. She nudged her way back into the teepee and leaned to nuzzle the half-open basket, giving a very low and rumbling whicker back.

"Hello little one. It is safe to come out, if you like. There is a wonderful world here to see and explore." She blew very gently into the dark space where the basket was opened. "And wonderful creatures to meet and get to know. Come out, darling!"

A soft snort was heard from within the basket, then, a few moments later, a small muzzle darted out and nipped at Delphia's nose. Shoving aside the lid a little more, the colt kept his head out this time, a mischeivous glint in his brown eyes as his ears swiveled curiously. Exploring...sounded interesting.

Delphia watched in amusement as her son emerged. He certainly looked like he'd be a handful! She nickered a mild rebuke to him for nipping and then lipped at his damp, short mane. "Greetings, son!" She whuffled against his neck and nudged gently. "Ready to go meet your daddy?"

She backed carefully out of the teepee, leaving her hindquarters outside and her forequarters inside. She nickered encouragingly to the emerging colt. "It's a lovely day outside, come and see!"

The colt tilted his head, black-ringed eyes blinking as he pondered. Daddy...hmm. "O...okay?" Experimentally he put grey forelegs out in front of him, blinking as he looked down at them. Now what in the world do I do with these... Taking a good look at his mother, he thought about it a bit more and then heaved himself to his feet, legs shaking slightly as he staggered a bit. He was able to stay upright though, at which he snorted proudly.

The gray mare kept her head nearby to catch and support him if he needed it. But that strong boy of hers stood right up, though wobbly. She neighed in happy pride and further encouragement. "That's right! Now be careful! The edge of the basket will trip you up if you aren't careful!" She reached her muzzle to snag the basket with her teeth and gave it a chew to demonstrate where she meant.

"Just lift one hoof and move it over the edge and set it down." She mimed doing it herself. "Then the other one!" She turned and poked her head out the flap to nicker to Sora. "Come look! One of our sons is learning to walk!" She then ducked her head back inside to watch and assist the light grey colt.

He turned his head to watch Delphia, whickering inquisitively at why she was coming back out the wrong way. Then he saw the small grey muzzle poke out and sniffing and smiled delightfully. Sora forgot about his bonded and trotted behind Delphia, sneaking his head around her so he can take a good look at his son. A glimmer of pride welled up in him as he watched how the small colt wobbled but still stood up strong. Woffling his nose, he said softly, "Hello son..."

((Alright y'all, I'm gonna move it on. Foals have emerged and found their owners.... EVERYONE is welcome to drop in anytime... but it's time to move things along!))

Ceylona had been thinking for a good long time now, since her first encounter with Talencia. She had decided it was time to go back and discover more about her specifically. She still felt very wary of any other humans, and steered clear of the village. The winter snows were melting fast, making the earth soft and muddy.

She approached the teepee with some trepidation. There was noone visible, though the sun was well up. She thought that perhaps now would be a good time to approach and learn more about the human by scents and objects left around her home.

She padded to the small campsite. A banked firepit glowed heat steadily, it's smoky fumes contained. She ploded on past it to a rack where some hides of other animals dried. She snorted uneasily at that. Still, they were small animals, such as rabbit an fox. Flapping in the wind nearby, hung upon a small row of young trees, were items made of something soft and thin. Thoughtfully she mouthed them, considering the idea that they might be edible. However, it tasted rather vile and she backed away, pulling her lips back from her teeth in a grimace.

Just then she nearly tripped over a small, low platform. It was made of wood, set up on short legs. She carefully turned around and leaned down to sniff of it. It had a strange, earthy smell that made her feel warm and comfortable. It smelled right, somehow. Like liquid earth. Not the soggy stuff that was coasting her fetlocks at the moment, but earth touched by sunshine and summer stream-water.

A gleam of light drew her attention to the ground nearby the table. There stood a row of glass jars, carefully sealed, each shining brightly in the morning light. Behind that bright gleam she could see that each jar had color inside... bright green, deep blue, vibrant yellow, warm orange, and several others. She ran her nose across them delicatedly, not quite touching them. They smelled rather acrid, sharp and biting. She blew with a snort and pulled back. What were all these things for?

She was close to the teepee, examining a pile of fallen trees, when she heard a step behind her. Startled, she threw her head high, upsetting part of the woodpile. As her head whipped around to see who was approaching, the entire woodpile shuddered and then toppled, scattering rolling pieces of wood onto and around her hooves. Startled even further thus, she began to try to move to get away, but stumbled and slipped among the small logs. Before she had the sense to stop and leap clear, she found herself falling hard on her left haunch.

Talencia, who was returning from the village with am armful of cloth and thoughts of summer clothes filling her mind, stopped short at the first sign of life in her camp. Thus she was able to watch the entire, brief chaos of the red mare knocking the woodpile onto herself and stumbling until she fell. Alarmed that she had been hurt, and that the potential for more hurt remained, she hurried forward and draped the cloth on the hide-drying rack. She then approached cautiously, talking low and soft to try and calm the wild mare.

She could see the mare turn rolling eyes that showed the whites towards her. "Easy now, wild one... steady. Don't go lunging about, or you'll trip yourself again. And it may hurt more this time... please, be easy, girl." She approached indirectly, aiming for the woodpile (what was left of it) instead of right at the skittish horse. The mare heaved to her feet again, although Tal noticed she did bear a remarkable expression of embarassment.

"It's alright, swift sister. I understand. No need to be ashamed of a bit of a fright." She still spoke soft and low, keeping the cadance of her voice even and steady. "It happens to all of us, little sister. No fears. Let's just see if you can find your way clear now." She had stooped to remove several that had rolled and bounced into an uneven pile on one side of the pretty red mare, and was now almost ignoring her by walking past her towards the ruined woodpile.
