Gh'lan quirked a brow comically at the irony of having the typically male honorific used for T'ka, and his name being kept as Ghilani for it's comedic value. He supposed he should have been upset, but he really wasn't, he'd basically left that door wide open after all. Khunoth would likely be upset once he figured it out, but Gh'lan would do his best to keep that little explosion from happening. Haanyath and T'ka were well matched in a lot of ways, so he chalked the irony off to being honestly oblivious to the social implications.

As it was, the little brown was trying his best not to growl at Haanyath again, though for what reasons the dragon did not make clear. Gh'lan thought he might actually have a grudging respect forming in his chest for his green clutchsister, but there was nothing about the brown's outward behavior to confirm that. He had allowed Haanyath to get a little closer to him, and had dropped his overly defensive posture, but his eyes still swirled rapidly with tinges of red and he had a definite air of superiority about him. Tada was still perched on Khunoth's shoulder, but the added decoration did little to cow the brown's domineering presence.

Shaking his head at his brown, Gh'lan straightened fully and glanced over the food tables, sniffing dramatically and grinning. "Satisfying us is sure to be easy enough, but them? Gluttony must be genetically programed at birth!" He gestured to the dragons and firelizards, but ignored Khunoth's protest when the brown tried to argue about having sophisticated tastes over just being gluttonous. Tada even gave her person a disgusted look, but she did chirp cheerfully enough at T'ka when the girl waved at her. Chuckling, Gh'lan stepped back from the table and motioned for T'ka to precede him. "Ladies first, I'll guard our backs lest Tada seek to remind me of her hunger with more then a look!"

Gallantry is juvenile, just feed her.

Again, Gh'lan ignored his brown's acerbic comment.

Oh! Here was a new girl! Hanumanth chirped up at Nan hopefully. Is this Elae? he asked, his optimism still unspoiled by reality.

What? And then someone tugged on C’ym’s ear, immediately attracting his attention away from Hanumanth. Putting one hand over his ear to protect it from further harassment, C’ym glared at Nan before fully realizing who she was. The glower faded a little at the recognition---because being harassed by a friend was better than being harassed by a stranger---but, shards, it hurt! Her compliment for Hanumanth further soothed things over though. Why, yes! Hanumanth was adorable!

“Ha. I never really imagined it either, to be honest. It still feels a little surreal right now.” No, Han… that’s not Elae. This is Nan. She’s a friend. Of course, to a hatchling, everyone was a friend!

Well, except for that nasty little Green whose first act on Pern was to maul someone. That one probably didn’t think of anyone as a friend.

Speaking of friends… C’ym’s blue eyes turned even more worried than before as Elae’s distinct lack of presence became obvious. “Umm… sort of. Raena noticed that Elae hasn’t been here yet, so we’re kind of waiting for her. Or anyone who has seen her. Have you seen her lately, Nan? Or heard anything about her? It’s worrisome that she would pass up an opportunity to socialize. We were actually just about to form a search party. Do you want to help?”

Of course, the truth was far more sinister than the boy could have possibly suspected. It was even worse than what Raena thought. Elae giggled to herself as she finished adding the ‘improvements’ to C’ym’s clothes and carefully tucked them away. Admittedly, she was a bit worried about being caught in the boy’s dormitory, but, hey; there were always risks with pranks like this, right? Content with herself, she happily skipped out and returned to the girls’ dorms, idly wondering if there were any other embarrassing articles of clothing she could donate to C’ym.

Looking around the party, Raena interjected, "Wait, Annelie, stay here. This is a hatchling party, a little Queen and her rider should be here. I'll go to the girls dorm and look for Elae." Especially upon seeing Nan, she would rather make her exit to look out for her friend. Snatching up an unnibbled werry leg, off of some guy's plate when he wasn't looking, she kept going out of the feast hall.

Moving through the halls quickly, she didn't stop her brisk walk for anything. It was just as easy and faster to swing to the side or a quick turn of the hip to avoid people going the other way. Touching the cold stone wall, she bumped the glows to wake them up more before opening the door to the girl's dorm.

Unknowing, she called out since she didn't know where Elae slept, "Elae? Are you in here, I brought you something to eat." Holding the warm succulent smelling werry leg like a torch of pride, she hoped it would draw the girl out.

Ohhh… now this was pretty! Elae admired the pink lace; it was a soft color, the pink of a dying sun. In fact, Elae felt it would look perfect with at least one of C’ym’s shirts! Perhaps one of the dark green ones… a small noise caught the girl’s attention and she quickly shut the clothes-chest, almost feeling guilty. A few more chirps followed until she finally managed to trace the noises to a blue flitt curled up on Raena’s bed.

“Oh. You must be Keek!” Elae said, suddenly recalling that the Healer had a blue firelizard. “…Funny. You were smaller before.” Also less fat, but she was far too polite to mention someone’s weight, even if that someone was a firelizard. Now that she walked closer to the little creature, Elae could see that the firelizard was distinctly rotund. “Huh. I guess Raena has been feeding you well, little one.”

The firelizard----who was not in fact Keek---opened one blue eye at Elae and let out a little rumble. When he had woken up earlier, Vox had been rather put out about being left behind by C’ren and Ceylith. But, he got over it, mostly by trying to find someone who could give him food. His memory was no better than most of his kind’s, but he could make connections… in this case, he remembered that one girl had given him lots of food. And she lived here.

Vox looked over Elae carefully before concluding that, no, this was not the one who had given him food before. But maybe she had food? Stretching out in a catlike motion----an overweight cat, anyway---Vox pattered over to Elae and chirped once more.

“Well, aren’t you ador…” Elae didn’t get any further because Vox found someone more interesting. That is, this new someone definitely had food!. Wings whirring furiously, Vox launched himself at Raena and the leg she was carrying. “I’ll try not to feel too hurt about that… Hey, Raena. I was just meeting Keek there.”

Raena recognized the flit instantly, retreating the leg and pulling a piece off to offer to the flit knowing better then try and deny the tenacious one food all together. Laughing lightly she looked to Elae, "There you are, I was afraid you were in C'ym's room and sewing something like 'ask me about my manly bits, or a circle around the front of the pants to show where to pour the soup." The idea was really funny, Elae wouldn't do that. Okay, maybe she would.

Dismissing the thought she looked to the little flit and told her, "This isn't Keek, this is Vox, he looks to the rider of Ceylith. Keek is sleeping in the Healer's nook." at least, she was sure he was.

To the reason why she was there, "How are you doing Elae? We were concerned for you when you weren't at the feast. Thats why I brought food but I can't protect it from Vox for too much longer." Really saying no food for you to a flit is a very, very bad idea.
PostPosted: Mon Mar 23, 2009 4:40 pm

“What?” Elae balked at the very idea. “I would never do something like that to Cil! I would, however, embroider a little heart about the crotch of his pants. I felt it was appropriate, him being a Bronzerider now and all. I guess it would’ve been even better if he was a Greenrider…” she paused for a moment, thinking about how cute Cil would’ve been as a Greenrider. Ah well. A Bronzerider was fine too; more for the ladies and all that, although Elae would never be able to see him as potential romantic partner. “Also, I decided to pretty up his clothes a little. Did you know that he has three different coats? And that they’re ALL black? Where is the creativity, I ask you?”

Any thoughts about Cil’s clothes disappeared quickly, because flits were far more interesting than clothes, even to Elae. “Ceylith? Oh! I know her! She’s such a sweetheart! Actually, she and her rider are the ones who Searched me originally. But… what would his firelizard be doing here?” Ohh… now that sounded deliciously salacious! Elae’s overactive imagination went into overdrive, trying to think of reasons why a stand-offish rider’s flit would end up in the girls’ dorm. And, since her imagination was overactive, she found an endless supply of theories.

Oh, she’d have to meet up with Nan to discuss!

“What? You were concerned about me? That’s so sweet! But, really, I’m fine. I can’t lie, though. Well, I could, but it wouldn’t be a very good lie. I was a bit annoyed that so many of my friends are moving onto being Weyrlings, which is why I haven’t gone to the Feast yet. Thanks, Raena.” She accepted the leg and began to battle off the voracious flit. “So, is that his name now? C’ym?”

Meanwhile, Vox continued to attempt to get at the leg.

The flat smile turned up into a grin, followed by a fake gasp of shock. "You didn't!" Okay, waist of words, but it was the only thing keeping her laughter down. "Elae, if he was anyone else, he'd kill you. Poor choice in fashion is not a..I would so love to see your handy work." There not approving, but she was hardly in a position to scold someone her own rank or higher.

Ceylith was a sweet dragon, from what she could tell, "I have never seen a green with a lovelier shade on her. What is her rider's name? We didn't exchange names." Referring to the little blue she was looking at fondly her only explanation, "He must like me, and I did give him a lot of treats." Her conversation was perfectly innocent, it helps that her mind doesn't live in the gutter.

"I didn't impress either, it kind of bummed me so I wanted to make sure you were okay, obviously you were happily occupied, only C'ym has reason to worry." Pulling out a piece of meatroll she tried to fool the flit. "Vox, here boy, I have a tasty meatroll for you. Yeah, his name is C'ym the little bronze Hanumanth is adorable, little guy went wondering off, trying to help find you I would imagine, up skirting poor girls on the way." This was a good reason not to wear skirts besides how impractical they are.

Despite being hours old from the shell, Astarteth was already what could be called precocious. She looked around to try to find the source of who was speaking to her or rather, where Ceylith's body was located. Since she could not find it right away, she deemed it not worthy and moved on. Who wants to lay eggs? You get fat. And greens should be sleek and pretty. Like me.

Kallista had been privy to that last remark and groaned slightly. Tugging Astar close back to her, she ignored the hatchling's angry squawks and tried to distract her with...well...anything. Taking C'ren comment about the new gold, the teen ran -figuratively- with the topic. "I don't think I have seen her. By the time she came out, I was totally enamored with Astar and her empty belly. As for her rider, she seems just as meek but I have never met her so I can't be so sure."

The green rider seemed very uncomfortable and Kallista was about to make some sort of excuse so that the conversation could end for his sake.

But Astarteth lifted her head and looked directly at C'ren, no shame at all, and spoke directly to her rider. He doesn't want to be here. So he is lying. Ceylith says so. You should oil me since my belly is full.

And once again, the green's thoughts came full circle back to herself. Oh yes, Kallista was sure she would have her hands full once Astarteth reached full maturity. Thankfully, it would be at least another two turns before she truly had to worry about those thoughts drifting towards...well... Not a topic for little greens' ears! When C'ren sat down unexpectedly, Kallista could only assume that Ceylith had said something to tug at his ear and make him behave. Her mother used to be able to take her father down with a look. A sobering moment during such a happy occasion as she glanced guiltily over at her father's table. Smiling at C'ren's comment, she responded.

"If being bossed around sometimes is the price I have to pay since my life has been completed, I think I can handle it." Lovingly, she rubbed Astarteth's head. The green crooned softly. "How long have you and Ceylith been together?"

"Surreal? I can only imagine!" Nandeli laughed, shaking her dark curls out of her face. Somewhere between the Hatching and the feast she had lost her little ribbon, allowing her hair bounce freely. She didn't have the heart to go back to her room and get one, not to mention if she left something exciting could happen! The Nose would lose her reputation if she had to tell the kitchen staff that she'd left the feast and missed some vital gossip material. Even as she stood with the group her eyes were darting between candidates, almost as though she was waiting for all hell to break loose. Hey, anything was possible after that first hatching mauled that girl.

When C'ym brought up Elae she shook her head. "I haven't seen her since the Hatching. She slipped off when everyone was making their way to the feast. Got distracted by a couple of boys in a dark corner, so I missed her." She grinned and shrugged her shoulders. What could she say? Boys in dark corners were always up to no good. These guys had just been exchanging marks for the egg betting, but it could have been crucial. She gave Raena a small nod when she volunteered, planting herself on the nearest seat instead. Everybody didn't need to get up and find Elae. This girl was reliable enough. And if they didn't come back… well, Nan would be quite happy to explain why. Wink wink, nudge nudge.

Turning her attention to the little bronze, the young woman wiggled her fingers at him. "Hey little one. You better take good care of C'ym here, he needs all the protection he can get. You know what I mean?"

“Oh, I didn’t do it because he Impressed and I didn’t, if that’s what you’re thinking. I just did it because I like plotting downfalls. It makes me feel all… tingly.” Her grin was downright mischievous, a smile that promised lots more fun with C’ym’s clothing in the future. Woe be on any Bronzerider that didn’t watch his clothes closely enough!

Mm… and this was really good wherry. Elae took another bite and promptly regretted it at Raena’s next words. The mouthful of meat went down the wrong tube, sending Elae into a mild coughing fit before it could be dislodged. “He didn’t… give you his name?!” Elae’s mind practically had a permanent residence in the gutter. Seriously. It had a PO box there and everything. Actually, now that she thought about it, C’ren totally did look like the kind of guy who would just get his business over with and then wander off. The b*****d. “Sorry about that… um. His name is C’ren.”

“And that is so cute! Hanumanth went off to search for me? That is absolutely adorable!” The words, predictably enough, were accentuated with occasional squeals of delight at the sheer cuteness of it. Honestly, who couldn’t help but squeal at it? “I suppose I should go downstairs then, if only to stop Hanumanth from skirting more girls.”

The trick worked. As soon as Vox saw more readily attainable food, he left Elae alone and went off to bother Raena. He snatched the bit of meatroll and then ran off with it.

Oh, now this was just precious! Ceylith, who felt a sort of motherly tenderness for all young things, chuckled at the little Green’s words. At one point in my life, I wished I could lay eggs, if only so I could watch my little babies hatch. But, you know, I decided that I like being who I am. If I was a Gold, I never would have met Mine. He may be a dimglow sometimes, but he is still Mine. Upon seeing the little Green look around, Ceylith wanted to approach, but…

Well, there just wasn’t enough room amongst the tables for a full-grown Green, even a small one like herself. All she could do was try to attract Astar’s attention with a soft bellow.

C’ren rolled his eyes at the little hatchling’s stare, being able to guess that she had told her rider exactly what Ceylith had said. Hopefully not the part about being dropped on his head as a child though. “From what I’ve seen, the new Gold is a good match for Annelie. That’s the new Rider’s name, by the way. Ceylith found her as well. Which is exactly why she’s doubly insufferable tonight. It’s bad enough that she actually went through the trouble of creating her ‘I-Told-You-So’ Dance, but she insisted on performing it for me twice.”

Actually, it had been rather adorable, but C’ren wasn’t going to let Ceylith know that. The Green knew already anyway.

“About ten years. But it feels like much longer. After a while, you can’t really think of life before they came along.” ‘They’, of course, referring to the dragons. It was like comparing a dream to actually being awake. Or as if nothing at all was really there before they came along.

Got distracted by… C’ym colored at what he imagined the ‘boys in the dark corner’ could have been doing. This was a Weyr, after all, where apparently anything went. Worse than that, he tried not to think about why Nan would be distracted by such a thing. These Weyrfolk! Actually, he probably should stop thinking of them as such, he realized, since he was really one of them now. Hanumanth proved that much.

At the thought, he dropped one hand to scratch lightly at Hanumanth’s hide and eyeridges, an act that the Bronze enjoyed immensely. “Ok, Raena. If Elae’s there…” he trailed off there, since he had no idea what to say. ‘Bring her down here?’ Why? If she was truly upset over being left standing, he didn’t want to deal with her, or her mood. It would just bring down the Feast, wouldn’t it? In the end, he left the sentence alone, deciding that Raena was probably better equipped to know how to handle the problem, what with being a girl and all.

Hanumanth crooned at the attention and positively melted on the ground. Now that the Elae-situation was figured out, he decided to simply enjoy the attention he garnered. As one of the two Bronzes to hatch, he got nearly as much attention as Yansanth. Well, maybe not that much… but his distinctive striped hide certainly caught the eye.

He opened one green eye at Nan’s words, not quite understanding them. Mine? What does she mean? Of course I’ll keep you safe! You’re Mine! Giving the finger a few cautious sniffs----and a lick---Hanumanth settled down once more before rubbing his face against Nan’s hand. Less talk. More pets, he urged, although he didn’t communicate the feeling to Nan.

A few more moments passed without a sign of either Elae or Raena. C’ym assumed this meant the missing girl had indeed been found in the girls’ dorm. If she hadn’t been found, then Raena would’ve returned by now. “…I guess this means that Elae really is upset over being left,” he said eventually, since the silence was beginning to bother him a bit.

Chuckling, she had to say, "I approve of your reasoning."C'ym would never have his cloths in peace again. If the guy was smart he would switch clothing spots with someone else, perhaps someone who would find this charming.

Concern overturned mirth as Elae started coughing, "Are you alright?" She didn't want the girl to choke, though she could practice the breathing help techniques. "No he didn't, I got the impression he didn't talk much." Luckily the talk of C'ren faded and they were back on the cuter male, Han.

"It is adorable, with the way Vox is, if we don't get going down you won't get very much." At least the meat roll worked so far. Waving towards her, Raena turned and started out of the dorm eager to get back and show off that she found Elae, but she would not warn C'ym.

R'dan gave Conomor a sympathetic smile as he sat down. "Well, there's the next clutch, right? Perhaps we should wrap you in a bunch of furs a sevenday before the Hatching and keep you out of harm's way."

The green knew she was being talked about and preened a bit. He said I'm lovely! I'd be even lovelier if I was fed...

That comment caused R'dan to stare at the green. "You just ate." He commented, then realized that the others hadn't heard Coatlicueth's comment. "She's quite the pig..."

Am not! I was just very very hungry. It was hard work breaking that shell to find you, you know.

R'dan smiled and stroked the green's head as he sat down and chuckled at the little gold. "Is it just me or are all the other weyrlings fairly old?" He glanced about, easily picking out the new weyrlings from the fact that the dragonets were with them. He was probably one of the youngest ones... and of course his short stature made him look even younger than he really was.

She noticed C'ym's red face and giggled, shoving him playfully. "Oh it was nothing like that, though I wish it were." Nandeli gave a rather dramatic sigh. If only they had been lovers sharing a quick embrace in a dark corner, unable to stay out of each others arms even though they knew what everyone would say. "They were just exchanging marks. All clothing was in tact and on the body, I am sorry to say. Honestly, you think they could have been more obvious if they were just handing over marks. No need to occupy a perfectly good dark corner for that kind of business. Not even worth mentioning."

Nandeli grinned when her fingers were licked, deciding that that was good enough for permission. Hanumanth did not seem like the type of dragon to get fussy when he was handled, not that she knew very much about hatchlings. Still, she remembered on one occasion being told that hatchlings got very sleepy after they had been fed, and she knew when she was sleepy she would probably allow anyone to do anything to her as long as it was kind. Mimicking what she had seen C'ym do, she scratched his eye ridges, using her other hand to stoke underneath his chin.

"Upset? Elae?" Nandeli looked up from the bronze. "She didn't seem upset at the end of the Hatching, and I don't think she's the type to not congratulate you just because she didn't Impress. Clearly, this was a diversion, a plot hatched between the two of them. Have you seen them pass any strange looks between them?"
