Without a doubt, my favorite author has to be C.S. Lewis. Writer of such great classics as The Chronicles of Narnia, The Space Trilogy, Mere Christianity, The Screwtape Letters, and so many others. He is definitely one of the greatest authors of his time (and possibly ours!)
Oh, yeah, I also like Tolkein, Paolini, and Harry Potter.

I'm rather sure there will be people who'll be all "Not Jane Austen again!", but I happen to like her as an author. I'm not blinded enough not to critize the fact that her books seem to circulate the same names and social settings, but they still offer an interesting insight into regency times. Some have also criticized her books about not containing any political statements on Napoleon and the war during that era, but eventhough I think they are completely unnecessary for that type of literature subjects anyway, they do contain some not too obvious political opinions. Pride and Prejudice is in my opinion her best work, but Northanger Abbey is also a favourite of mine, because of the slightly different, even slightly sardonic, way it is written.
I also like authors such as Terry Pratchett, Tad Williams and I am in love with Guy Gavriel Kays'; The Fionavar Tapestry. I shan't get into any more of the classic authors like Austen or this is going to take hours. Just like my book diary on Emma I did for literature class some years ago. It was 15 pages long. D:
I'd also like to ask whether anyone else has noticed that todays historical novels have all seemed to become erotic novels in disguise?

Easily one if my all-time favorite authors is Stephen King. With such great novels as The Stand, (my favorite) and The Shining, he should be recognized as an insanely good author.
As far as books, I could generate quite a list.
Harry Potter Series, J.K Rowling A Separate Peace, John Knowles A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Douglas Adams, His Dark Materials Series, Phillip Pullman My Name is Asher Lev, Chaim Potok We All Fall Down, Robert Cormier
As you can see, I have what could possibly be the most random compilation of genres in existence.
You should also check out the very short story I wrote. I posted it on Gaia and it's called Jedi Corruption. A Star Wars short story, which I'm waiting on feedback for before I continue to turn it into a Novel, or Novella.

In terms of recomendations and favorites, mine have been the same for a while now.
My all time favorite author is Guy Gavriel Kay. He is a writer of the most beautiful fantasy novels I personally have ever read. I hold his trilogy, The Fionavar Tapestry in a higher place in my heart than I hold L.O.T.R. or Hitch Hiker's.
My recomendations are all by Kay, and I believe any lover of fantasy will agree with my oppinions once they read them.
The Fionavar Tapestry (in order): The Summer Tree The Wandering Fire The Darkest Road
Other Works by Kay:
A Song For Arbonne Tigana The Last Light of the Sun

One of my favorite books was, The Black Tattoo by Sam Enthoven. It was a splendid book, it was also very long. I think it was 503 pages. I highly recommend it. And two of the books I hate are TTFN and TTYL and I don't know who the author is. It is entirely written in "txt-tlk".

I love the book "Villians by Necessity" by Eve Forward. It was only published in 1995 but it's already out of print and running around $85 on Amazon.com. It's definetly worth the price though!

Favorite books, eh? Well. I enjoy reading Laurel K. Hamilton's books. The Anita Blake series; Meridith Gentry series; Nightseer. Alice Borchardt's "The Silver Wolf," "Night Of The Wolf," and "The Wolf King." Fantasy: It's fun. But I also enjoy existentialist authors.
"Steppenwolf" by Herman Hesse is a personal favorite. Also, "Nausea" by Jean Paul Sartre. Stuff by Nietzsche, Jacques Derrida, Gilles Deleuze, Jean Baudrillard, and Michael Foucault.
When I first started reading actual books back in third grade, I believe it was a book of my father's that I had picked up. Something by Alan Dean Foster. He writes some good stuff. And Piers Anthony, too. Both authors my father has a plethora of novels from, that I enjoy. I really liked the first book of Piers Anthony's "Incarnations" series... I mean, the cover had Death driving in a car! Great cover; great book. I think it was called "On A Pale Horse."

Oh, so many books! Right now I'm madly in love with Edith Wharton. I finished The House of Mirth a while ago, and am currently reading The Age of Innocence, and everything about her writing is just superb. I've also recently fallen in love with Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. Barbara Kingsolver is also great.
I've never really understood the appeal of McCaffrey or Crichton--their books are well-plotted, and Pern is a wonderful world, but the characters always fall flat for me, and I find the writing to be rather stale. And my best friend gives me hell for it, but I got through only a few pages of Eragon before cringing, giggling, and then deciding to re-read Good Omens.

My favorite author is Phyliss Renyolds Naylor. She's written so many amazing books. Of all of them, Shiloh was my favorite. It won the Newberry Award in 1992. It was so well written and very adventurous.
